Joseph Palmer ‘Joe P.’ Moore -- Manning

Joseph Palmer “Joe P.” Moore, 91, of Manning, husband of the late Mary McMaster Moore, died Thursday, March 23, 2006, in Clarendon Memorial Hospital in Manning.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 25, at The Presbyterian Church in Manning, with the Rev. Dr. William J. Holmes officiating. Burial will be in Manning Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be his five grandsons, Will Sykes, and Henry Frasier. Honorary pallbearers will be The Mullet Club members, Jimmy Bland, Morgan Sauls, Joey Moore, Johnny Moore, Bill Sykes, Harold Furse, Bill Brewer, Bill Buyck and David Mills.

Born February 24, 1915, in Rock Hill, he was the son of the late Francis Heyward Moore and Ida Huey Moore. The all abiding interest of Joe Moore has been his family, The Manning Presbyterian Church (he was a deacon, elder, and the founder of the Thursday Prayer Luncheon), quail hunting, local history, and the enjoyment of fellowship with his many friends. He was founder of the Men’s Mullet Club, the Clarendon County Historical Society, and was a well known developer, farmer and noted author.

Surviving are five daughters, Mary (James) McNair, of Santee, Frances (Lewis) Horton, of Mount Pleasant, Mellie (Ronnie) Lee, of Manning, Joanne (Kinch) Edwards, of Rock Hill and Catherine Moore, of Mount Pleasant; eight grandchildren, Jay Frye, Marnie Clayton, Marion Weaver, Ron Lee, Gregory Horton, Jody Horton, Elizabeth Goff and Joseph Briggs; and eight great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to The Presbyterian Church at Manning, P.O. Box 207, Manning SC 29102 or the Clarendon County Historical Society, 211 North Brooks St., Manning SC 29102.

Stephens Funeral Home and Crematory of Manning is in charge of arrangements.

Mary Kathleen Padgett Collier -- Aiken

Mary Kathleen Padgett Collier, 96, of Pepper Hill Nursing Home, 3525 Augustus Road, Aiken, formerly of Bamberg, died Friday, March 17, 2006, at Pepper Hill Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 20, at First Baptist Church, Bamberg, with the Rev. Aubrey Bessinger and the Rev. Tim Futrell officiating. Burial will follow at 3 p.m. in Aiken Memorial Gardens, Aiken.

Mrs. Collier was born April 3, 1909, in Bamberg, a daughter of the late Calvin Franklin Padgett and the late Mamie Katherine Rentz. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Bamberg. She worked many years at Bamberg Memorial Hospital as a Nurse’s Aide. She was a member of the Golden Age Club, Keenagers, and Bamberg Hospital Auxiliary.

Survivors include two sons, Robert M. Cook and Richard W. Cook, both of Aiken; two stepdaughters, Mildred Jameson of Bolentown and Jackie Davis of Warner Robins, Ga.; two stepsons, Ernest Bair Jr. of Orangeburg and Charles Bair of Norway; two grandsons, one granddaughter, one great-grandson and four great-granddaughters.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, March 19, at Cooner Funeral Home in Bamberg.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church in Bamberg or to a charity of one’s choice.

Willie Earl Haigler -- Orangeburg

Willie Earl Haigler, 47, of 153 Nimmons Road, died Friday, March 17, 2006, at The Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg.

Funeral plans will be announced by Jenkins Funeral Home of Orangeburg.

Friends may call at the residence of his wife, Mrs. Teresa Haigler, 153 Nimmons Road, and the residence of Mrs. Lucille Haigler, 140 Stacy Bridge Road, Orangeburg, and at the funeral home.

Steven Victor Mills -- NORTH

Steven Victor Mills, 59, of North, died Monday, March 20, 2006.

Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 25, at Culler-McAlhany Funeral Home Chapel.

Mr. Mills was born in Fayetteville, N.C., a son of the late Harry and Myrtle Buchanan Mills. He was a decorated Army veteran of the Vietnam Conflict. He was a retired graphic artist.

Survivors include a daughter, Erin Victoria Mills of Indianapolis, Ind.; a sister, Joel M. Mills of North; and a brother, A. W.Mills of Orangeburg.

The family will receive friends at the home of Joel M. Mills, 110 Foxie Lane, North.

Laval Williams -- Swansea

Laval Williams, 60, of Swansea, died Monday, March 20, 2006.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, March 23, at Pleasant Pine Baptist Church in Gaston.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Williams of the home; a daughter, Tammy Phillips; sons, Johnny Williams and David Laval Williams; a sister, Kathy Wingard; brothers, Jimmy Williams and Roy Williams; and five grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Culler-McAlhany Funeral Home in North.

Mrs. Eartha Lee Mintz -- ORANGEBURG

Mrs. Eartha Lee Mintz, of 507 Gibson St., died Wednesday, March 22, 2006. at her residence.

Funeral plans will be announced by Bythewood Funeral Home.

Friends may call at the residence of her daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Willie (Dianne) Howard, 215 Mike St., Orangeburg, and the funeral home.

Mrs. Dorothy ‘Dot’ Kennedy Maple -- Orangeburg

Funeral services for Mrs. Dorothy “Dot” Kennedy Maple, 65, of 1363 Goff Ave., will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 26, 2006, at Bull Swamp Baptist Church, 112 Purity St., Orangeburg, with the Rev. Leroy Cain presiding, assisted by the Rev. J. J. Glover. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The casket will be placed in the church at 1 p.m.

Mrs. Maple died Wednesday, March 22, at her residence.

She was born April 4, 1940, in Orangeburg, a daughter of the late Clarence “Billy” and Matilda Benjamin Kennedy. She attended the public schools of Orangeburg School District Five and graduated in 1982. She was employed at Jolley Acres Nursing Home until her health failed. Mrs. Maple was married to the late Harry Maple.

Survivors include one son, Vandell (Sylvia) Kennedy, of Orangeburg; one sister-in-law, Addie Kennedy, of Washington, D.C.; one brother-in-law, West Able, of Orangeburg; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Friends may call at the residence and at Bethea’s Funeral Home of Orangeburg.

Mrs. Ada Bell Johnson -- Orangeburg

Funeral services for Mrs. Ada Bell Johnson, 86, of 575 Stonewall Jackson Blvd., Orangeburg, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 23, 2006, at Andrew Chapel Baptist Church, Highway 301 North, Orangeburg, with the Rev. Donald E. Greene Jr. officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The casket will be placed in the church at 10 a.m.

Mrs. Johnson passed Friday, March 17.

She was born March 20, 1921, in Orangeburg County, a daughter of the late James and Mary Murray Guinyard. She was educated in the public schools of Orangeburg County and became a member of Andrew Chapel Baptist Church at an early age. She married the late George W. Johnson and to this union five children were born. She was a hard worker and made the rearing of her children the center of her life. She was preceded in death by two sons, George Johnson III and Herman Lee Johnson.

Survivors include children, Lula Belle “Ann” McDonald and husband, Robert McDonald of Orangeburg, Roosevelt Johnson and wife, Janice Johnson of Orangeburg and Ruby Lee Johnson of Orangeburg; an aunt; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

Friends may call at the residence of her daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Robert (Lula) McDonald, 1393 Essex Drive, Orangeburg, and at Bethea’s Funeral Home of Orangeburg.

Sophia Burkett -- Norway

Sophia Burkett, affectionately known as “Fat”, 23, of Lupine Circle, Norway, died Wednesday, March 22, 2006, at her residence.

Funeral plans will be announced by Lebby Funeral Home of Denmark.

Friends may call at the residence of her parents, Mr. Wilbert L. and Mrs. Wanda B. Milhouse, 114 Woodglory Drive, Norway and at the funeral home.

Jesse S. Hudson
April 6, 1931 ~ June 9, 2016 (age 85)

SANTEE - Jesse S. Hudson, 85, of Santee, passed away Thursday, June 9, 2016 at The Magnolias of Santee.

A memorial service to celebrate his life will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Avinger Funeral Home in Holly Hill with Rev. Barry Allen officiating. Masonic rites will be rendered. There will also be another gathering to celebrate his life on Wednesday from 4:15 to 5:30 at the Santee Cooper Resort Clubhouse.

Jesse was born in Philadelphia, PA, a son of the late Jesse B. Hudson and Helen Lauck Hudson. An avid golfer, he moved to Santee in 1996. Jesse was first married to Dorothy Hudson, mother of his children, and was the widower of Alice Hudson.

Surviving are children, Cheryl (Tom) Repas of Carversville, PA, Jesse (Therese) Hudson of Ocean City, NJ, and Mark (Denise) Hudson of Philadelphia, PA; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Charity Lodge Scholarship Fund, PO Box 58, Elloree, SC 29407.
