Haynie, Louise Welsh

BELTON - Louise Welsh Haynie, 82, of 109 Watkins St., died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2001, at Anderson Area Medical Center.

Born in Anderson, she was the owner/operator of Haynie's Beauty Shop, and a member Belton First Baptist Church, and the Fidelis Sunday school class of the church.

Surviving are son, C. Richard Haynie of Belton; daughter, Nancy Haynie-Mooney of Lilburn, Ga.; sisters, Elizabeth Floyd and Donna Seel, both of Anderson; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was the widow of Charles Ransom Haynie and the daughter of the late James Andrew and Ella Elizabeth Fayard Welsh. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Rabun, Jack, and Bill Welsh.

Services are at 11 a.m. Monday from Belton First Baptist Church by the Rev. T. Dale Lynch and Dr. Booker Bagby; burial will follow in New Silver Brook Cemetery, Anderson. The body is at Cox Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday in the Family Life Center at the church.

The family is at the residence.

Flowers will be accepted. The family suggests memorials be made to First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 366, Belton, S.C. 29627.

Hawthorne, R.E.

DONALDS - R.E. Hawthorne, 73, of 427 Mt. Lebanon Road, died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2001, at Abbeville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Due West, he was a member of Mt. Lebanon AME Church, where he was a member of the Steward Board, and he had served as a member of the Senior Choir, the Voices, and the Male Chorus. He was also a brick mason and last worked with Simmons & Ware Construction Company. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Korean War.

Surviving are sons, Rodney Hawthorne of Due West, Lurman Hawthorne of Greenwood, and Darrell Hawthorne of Donalds; brother, Ollie Hawthorne of Far Rockaway, N.Y.; sisters, Nettie Martin of Greenville, and Minnie Hawthorne of Brooklyn, N.Y.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was the widower of Martha Jackson Hawthorne and the son of the late Calvin and Delia Joseph Hawthorne. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Clara Denise Williams; and three brothers, Calvin, Dan, and Floyd Hawthorne.

Services are at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Mt. Lebanon AME Church by the Revs. Larry Nelson, James Kay, Jerome Nance, and Porter Stackhouse; burial in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Abbeville. The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Tuesday, and the family will receive friends from 1:15 p.m. until hour of service.

The family is at the home.

Robinson-Walker Funeral Service, Ware Shoals, is in charge of arrangements.

Galloway, Don

WEST PELZER - Donald Michael "Don" Galloway, 64, of 1 Hoyt St., died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2001, at Anderson Area Medical Center.

Born in Anderson County, he was retired from 35 years of service from the Gerber Childrenswear, and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are widow, Emma Bess "Betsy" Williams Galloway; daughters, Lynn Putnam of Lowell, N.C., and Tammy Galloway of Anderson; son, Michael Galloway of Anderson; sisters, Gayle Marlon of Williamston, Becky Rainey of West Pelzer, and Claudia Gilmore of Piedmont; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was the son of the late Benjamin Franklin "B.F." and Sylvia Smith Galloway.

Private memorial services will be at a later date. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Gray Mortuary.

The family is at the home.

The family suggests memorials be made to Eastview Baptist Church Building Fund, 120 Eastview Road, Pelzer, S.C. 29669.

Cobb, Emily

GREENWOOD - Emily Williams Cobb, 79, of 1230 Montague Avenue, died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2001, at Self Memorial Hospital.

Born in Greenwood, she was a graduate of Greenwood High School, and retired from Sprint Telephone Company. She was a member of Laurel Baptist Church.

Surviving are widower, John Andrew "Jake" Cobb Jr. of the home; daughters, Carolyn C. Massey of Abbeville, and Virginia C. Shirley of Sumter; son, John Andrew Cobb, III of Greenwood; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was the daughter of the late Calvin Butler and Leamie Duffie Williams.

Graveside services are at 3 p.m. Monday at Greenwood Memorial Gardens by the Revs. Ray Massey and Todd Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Monday at Blyth Funeral Home.

The family is at the home.

The family suggests memorials be made to Laurel Baptist Church, 330 Sample Road, Greenwood, S.C. 29649, or to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 1741, Greenwood, S.C. 29648.

Bradley, Minnie

Minnie Pearl Bradley, 72, of 421 Hudgens St., Anderson, died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2001, at Anderson Area Medical Center.

Born in Yatesville, Ga., she was retired from LaFrance Mills, and a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Gospel Choir.

Surviving are sisters, Annie Mae Mangum of Durham, N.C., and Lila Mae Davis of Thomaston, Ga.; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was the widow of William C. Bradley and the daughter of the late Plez and Katie Woodard. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Willie Mae Ralls Napier.

Services are at 11 a.m. Monday at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Belton; interment in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. Monday.

The family is at the home.

Johnson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Austin, Ella Mae

PELZER - Ella Mae Crone Austin, 88, formerly of 1015 Orr St., died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2001, at Park Ridge Hospital, Fletcher, N.C.

Born in Easley, she was retired from Kendall Company, and a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church.

Surviving are daughter, Peggy Moon of Piedmont; sons, Gerald Austin of Pelzer, Carl Austin of Greenville, and Larry Austin of Piedmont; 24 grandchildren; a number of great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.

She was the widow of Homer Frederick Austin and the daughter of the late Marlin and Ada O'Shield Crone. She was preceded in death by a son, William C. Austin; and two daughters, Bonnie Russell and Louise Snapps.

Services are at 3 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Gray Mortuary; burial to follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

The family will be at their respective homes.

Bondi, Jewell Elizabeth

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. — Jewell Elizabeth Grimes Bondi, 94, of Port St. Lucie, formerly of Elberton, died Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2001, in Port St. Lucie.

Born in Elbert County, she had lived in Elberton until 1961, when she moved to Fort Pierce to make her home. She was a homemaker and a former member of the Elberton First Baptist Church.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Surviving are nephews, Maurice E. Hammond of Port St. Lucie, Archie Pope Hammond of Greenville, and Walter N. Grimes of Elberton, Ga.

She was the widow of Giulio ``G'' Bondi and the daughter of the late Mark Bright and Nonie Davis Grimes. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Sam Grimes and Thomas Grimes; and a sister, Lois G. Hammond.

Graveside services are at 3 p.m. Sunday at Elmhurst Cemetery, Elberton, by the Rev. Jack McVeigh. The family will receive friends from 2 to 2:45 p.m. Sunday at Hicks Funeral Home.

Terry, Raymond

Raymond Ezekiel Terry, 60, of 209 Flat Rock Road, Anderson, died Friday, Oct. 10, 2001, at Anderson Area Medical.
Born in Jasper County, he was a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church, Gray, and was employed by A.B.M. Janitorial Service of Anderson.

Surviving are widow, Essie Terry of the home; son, Anthony Terry of New York; sisters, Alice Padgett and Mary Bradley, both of Ridgeland, and Annie Bell Waldron of Roanoke, Va.; brothers, Theodore Terry of Ridgeland, the Rev. Naymond Terry of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Johnnie Lee Terry of Gillisonville; and four grandchildren.

He was the son of the late Goldie Walker Terry and Martha Bowers Terry. He was first married to the late Jean Terry. He was preceded in death by a brother, Henry Lewis Terry.

Services and burial will be held in Ridgeland at a time and date to be announced. Public viewing will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday at Johnson Funeral Home.

The family will be at the home.

Johnson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Sutton, June Moore

WESTMINSTER - June Moore Sutton, formerly of Westminster, died Friday, Aug. 10, 2001, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Atlanta.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Seneca Mortuary.

Shipman, Larry

TOWNVILLE - Larry Dewey Shipman, 55, of 198 Timberlake Two Drive died Friday, Aug. 10, 2001, at the Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Brown-Oglesby Funeral Home, Seneca.

Robinson, Marjorie

DONALDS - Marjorie Washington Robinson, 76, of 305 Mock Orange Road died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2001, at Self Memorial Hospital, Greenwood.
Born in Abbeville County, she was a graduate of the public schools in Abbeville County and attended Bennett College in Greensboro, N.C. She was a member of Dunn Creek Baptist Church, where she served as a chairperson of the deaconess board. She was a Sunday school teacher, senior choir Leader and a member of the Women's Missionary Circle No. 3. She and her husband was the founder and former co-owner of the Robinson Funeral Service in Ware Shoals, where she served a licensed funeral director. She was a former member of the South Carolina Morticians Association.

Surviving are son, Henry S. Robinson of the home; and two granddaughters.

She was the widow of Wilbur Robinson and the daughter of the late Marie Harper Smith. She was reared by the late Nathan and Ada D. Washington.

Services are at 2 p.m. Saturday at Dunn Creek Baptist Church, Ware Shoals, by the Revs. James Davis III, Deloris Henderson and Johnny Henderson; burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Wilbur Robinson Memorial Chapel of the Robinson-Walker Funeral Service, Ware Shoals. The body will be placed in the church at noon Saturday.

The family will be at the home.

Payne, Lydia

BALDWIN, Ga. - Lydia Payne, 95, of Baldwin died Friday, Aug. 10, 2001, at a private nursing home.
Born in Franklin County, she was a homemaker and a member of Leatherwood Baptist Church.

Surviving are son, Tommy Payne of Mount Airy; sister, Tommie Aldred of Mobile, Ala.; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was the daughter of the late Thomas and Blanche Gunn Savage.

Private family funeral services are at 3 p.m. Sunday at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, by the Rev. Jim Olds; burial will be in Yonah Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
