Susie Carter Edgerton, 90, of Charleston died Thursday, March 14th. Born in Aiken, S.C. to the late Mr. and Mrs. William Webb Edgerton. Ms. Edgerton worked for many years for the American Red Cross in the Disaster Relief program. She is survived by two nephews, Claude Carr of Chicago, Ill., and Everett William Edgerton, Jr. and his wife Brenda of Jacksonville, Fla. FRIERSON, Dudley
Dudley J. Frierson, 75, of Johns Island died Thursday, March 14th at a local hospital. Born in Manning, S.C. to the late George Allen and Ollie David Frierson. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Jane Frierson of Johns Island, two sons, Danny and George Frierson of Johns Island, one daughter, Carolyn Frierson of Johns Island, one brother, Eugene Frierson of Walterboro, S.C., and two sisters, Thelma Crowe and Virgil Frierson both of Summerville. Mr. Frierson was also survived by seven grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, March 16th at Live Oak Memorial Gardens. He was a graduate of High School of Charleston and served with the US Coast Guard. He was a member of St. Philips Episcopal Church and the Society of Cincinnati. He was an officer in the Charleston Light Dragoons, Sons of Confederate Veterans and Charles P. Cuthbert Camp. He is survived by his wife of Sullivan's Island, SC, a daughter Deanne L. Doscher of James Island, SC, 2 sons, G. Lawrence Lucas of James Island, SC and Thomas L. QUINN, Mary
Georgetown - Mary deSaussure Bull Quinn, 78, died Wednesday, March 13, 2002, at her residence. Mrs. Quinn was born in Fletcher, N.C. on December 3, 1923, a daughter of the late Rev. Dr. Henry deSaussure Bull and Gertrude Cornish Bull. She lived most of her life in Georgetown and was a graduate of Winyah High School and attended Coker College. Mrs. Quinn retired from the Georgetown County Health Department. She was a communicant of Prince George, Winyah, Episcopal Church and served her church as a docent. Mrs. Quinn was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Colonial Dames.Surviving are: a son, Bill Quinn of Columbia; three daughters, Lucia Martin of Columbia, Md., Jane West of Columbia, and Mary Jansen of Nashville, Tenn.; two brothers, Rev. John H. Bull of Knoxville, Tenn., and Henry D. Bull, Jr. of Columbia; four sisters, Caroline K. Grannis of Georgetown, Gertrude B. Terrell of Odessa, Texas, Sarah B. Clarkson of Columbia, and Elizabeth B. DUANE, William
William "Bill" Duane, II, 54, of Charlotte, N.C., formerly of Charleston died Thursday, March 14th at a local hospital in Charlotte. Born in Charleston to the late William and Mildred Porter Duane, Sr. Mr. Duane was owner and operator of Sassy Scissors-First Evening Salon (Hair by Bill Duane) since 1984 in Charlotte, N.C. He attended Belmont-Abbey College in Belmont, N.C., Mr. Duane is survived by his daughter, Tonya Reid of Charlotte, N.C.; three brothers, Chris Duane of Charlotte, Jack Duane, and Martin Duane both of Charleston, S.C., five sisters, Denise Davis of Lithonia, Georgia, Patricia A. Duane of Charleston, Michele Kelly of Riva, Maryland, Sylvia Molley of Jacksonville, Fla., and Rebecca McIntosh of Ocala, Fla. Mr. Duane is also survived by one grandchild, Porter Metzler of Charlotte. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Sunday, March 17th at MCALISTER-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, DOWNTOWN CHAPEL. GRAY, Russell
Col. Russell Earl Gray USAF (Ret.), 88, of Charleston, died suddenly Thursday, March 14th at a local hospital. Born in Huntington, Indiana, he was the son of the late Wilmer Claude and Goldie Fern Gray. His brother, Kenneth W. Gray, also preceded him in death. He was a graduate of the University of the Philippines and attended graduate school in Florida. He was a retired colonel in the United States Air Force and former member of the Army National Guard. At the beginning of WWII, Col. Gray wanted to serve his country in the newly formed Army Air Corp. At the age of 27, he was considered too old for the cadet program. He personally obtained his private pilot's license and was immediately accepted into the flight program. His devotion to his country was only exceeded by his love for his family. Col. Gray was an avid gardener, reader, and aviation enthusiast. He was a member of Ashley River Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Thelma Dean Gray of Charleston, a son an daughter-in-law, Russell Earl and Patricia H. Gray, Jr. of Atlanta; a daughter and son-in-law, Penelope "Penny" and Larry Todd of Charleston, S.C.; and a brother, Robert Gray of Sarasota, Florida; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren. Family and friends are invited to attend a family visitation at the McAlister-Smith Funeral Home Chapel, on Sunday, March 17, 2002 from 3-5:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 5:00 p.m. Private interment services will be held Monday, March 18, 2002 at 1:30 p.m. in the Beaufort National Cemetery. Mary B. Nye, 86, died March 16, 2002 at a local residential care facility.She was the widow of Stephen Nye and a former resident of Rock Hill, SC until 1995 when she moved to Summerville following the death of her husband. She retired as supervisor of Voter Registration for York County. She was born August 5, 1915 in Pawtucket, RI and lived there until they moved to Rock Hill in 1957.Graveside Services will be held at 1 PM Monday, March 8, 2002 at Laurelwood Cemetery in Rock Hill with the Rev. Dr. Charles S. Burial will be in Oak Forest Methodist Churchyard, Lake Chatgue, NC at a later date.Mr. Blosser was born August 16, 1924 in Point Marion, PA to the late Nellie Black Blosser and George Graizer Blosser. He majored in Journalism at George Washington University. He retired from the Dept. of Navy serving as Director of Publications and Printing, Southeast Division 6th Naval District. Upon retirement, he received the Superior Civilian Service Award from the Dept. of Navy. Mr. Blosser was a World War II Veteran and a member of Benjamin French Lodge, Washington, DC, and a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Freemason, a member of the Elks Club and a life member of the Navy League He was also a member of Citadel Square Baptist Church.Surviving are his wife, JoAnne Moore Blosser and daughter, Deirdre Anne Haneman, two grandchildren, Jackson Dalton Armstrong and Alexandra Armstrong, all of Mt. Pleasant, SC, a sister, Norman Jean Blosser Roso of Uniontown, PA, brothers, George Blosser, of Richmond, VA, Richard Blosser of Knoxville, Tenn., sister-in-law, Claudine Morris of Hayesville, NC, Elizabeth Moore of Belstsville, MD, Cosandra Moore of Vero Beach, Fla, Judy Blosser of Knoxville, Tenn., Brothers-in-law, Mario Roso of Uniontown, PA, John Allen Moore of Vero Beach, Fla., John Rice of Merrilleville, Indiana, and several nieces and nephews.In lieu of flowers, Memorials my be made to the charity of ones choice.

GREELEYVILLE - Thomas McMaster Hogan, 79, died Saturday in a Sumter hospital. Mr. Hogan was born in Lynchburg, a son of the late Dr. O.F. Hogan and Mrs. Laura Ketchen Hogan. He was a graduate of Greeleyville schools and attended the USC. He was a retired farmer, a Navy Veteran of W.W. II, and a member of Greeleyville United Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Lois McClary Hogan; 4 daughters, Elaine Putnam of Surfside, Becky Tyler of Gaffney, Thomasena Strickland of Aynor and Joyce Small of Columbia; 1 brother, Dr. Otis F. Hogan of Greenville; 1 sister, Jophelia Holladay of Stone Mountain, GA; 8 grandchildren; 1 great grandson. Funeral Services will be 11 AM Monday in Mt. Hope Cemetery, directed by WILLIAMSBURG FUNERAL HOME. Visitation will be 6 to 8 P.M. Sunday at the Funeral Home.

Mosley and June Myrick Cobb. She was an employee of the Hampton County Animal Shelter, and had attended the Hickory Grove Baptist Church.Surviving besides her father of Brunson and her mother of Missouri are: her husband, Kenny Iler of Claxton, Ga.; children, Rachel Light Thomas of Crocketville, Jacob Light and Amber Light both of Brunson, Seth Iler and Billy Ray Iler both of Claxton, Georgia, and Valorie Iler of Brunson; two brothers, Keffie and Will Molsey both of Missouri; one sister, Melissa M. Light of Crocketville; and two half sisters, Katrina and Tina Cobb both of Missouri; and her step mother, Beulahree Mosley of Brunson.Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Sunday in the Hickory Grove Baptist Church, with burial in the Hickory Grove Cemetery directed by PEEPLES-RHODEN FUNERAL HOME in Hampton.Friends may call at the Chapel in Hampton from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, and Sunday until the hour of service.

OWENS, Vernon
Vernon C. Owens, 79, born and raised in Charleston, S.C. died in a local Charleston hospital on Friday, March 15, 2002. He was a Mount Pleasant resident.The relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral services in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, Monday at 11 o'clock. Interment, Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at Stuhr's Mount Pleasant Chapel Sunday between 5 and 7 o'clock.Mr. Owens graduated from Charleston High School. He worked for the Atlantic Coastline Railroad prior to enlisting in the Army Air Corps during World War II where he served as a B-17 crewmember with the 510th Bomb Squadron at Polebrook AB, England. Later, he retired from the Atlantic Coastline Railroad and the Life Insurance Company of Virginia in Charleston. He served as the first male president of the PTA for Mamie P. Whitesides Elementary School. He also worked at Wal-Mart in Mt. Pleasant, S.C. He was a member of the First Christian Church and attended Seacoast Christian Community Church. He was a lifetime and 50 year member of LaCandeur Lodge #36 and a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason.He was predeceased by his parents George W. Owens and Nettie B. Owens, and his brothers, George W. Owens, Jr. and Leland Owens.He was married to the late Emily Dowty Owens. He is survived by two sisters, Alma O. Collier of Harleyville, S.C. and Nettie O. Walters of St. George, S.C.; three daughters, Nancy O. Gage of Charleston, S.C., Linda O. Atkinson of San Diego, Calif., and Jane O. Claypool of Indianapolis, Ind.; two sons, Vernon C. Owens, Jr. and James C. Owens, both of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; one stepdaughter, Sherrie Shapiro of Atlanta, Ga.; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.The family requests any donations be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, 4 Carriage Lane, Charleston, S.C. 29407. He will be missed by his family and friends.
