Funeral services for Walker J. “Jr.” Grubbs, 85, of Williston, SC will be held two p.m., Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at Seven Pines Baptist Church with Rev. Billy Mew officiating. Burial will be in the Barnwell County Memorial cemetery by the airport. The family will receive friends from six to eight p.m., Tuesday at Folk Funeral Home, Williston. Memorials may be made to Seven Pines Baptist Church 22 Seven Pines Road Snelling, SC 29812. Mr. Grubbs passed away Sunday, June 12, 2011.
born in Barnwell County, he was a son of the late Frank and Sallie Gillam Grubbs. He was married to the late Katherine Buck Grubbs. He was owner/operator of the Village Inn and was a member of Seven Pines Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Johnny (Carey) Douglas of Jackson; grandchildren, Kassidy McKinney, Alexis McKinney, and Arabella Catherine Douglas; sister, Irene Padgett of Hampton; brothers, Charles (Betty Jean) Grubbs, Jake (Margaret) Grubbs, Leroy (Juanita) Grubbs, all of Snellings and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Franklin Grubbs; sisters, Anna Lou Kinard, Rose Marie Sanders and Elizabeth Sanders.

Richard McWhite and Chaplin Joe Marquez, 173rd Airborne Brigade officiating. Burial will be at Barnwell County Memorial Park (by the airport). The family will receive friends from six to eight p.m. Tuesday June 14, 2011 at Folk Funeral Home, Williston. Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church. Mrs. Hair passed away Monday, June 13, 2011. The family greatly appreciates the love, support and the exceptional care provided by the ICU nurses, staff, Dr. Stephen Metrapol, Dr. Sharon Wise and all who helped take care of her for the last 15 weeks at Baptist Hospital, Columbia, SC.
born in Barnwell, SC, she was a daughter of the late Ernest Steen Pender and Julia Hammett Pender. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and assistant director at First-to-Learn Daycare in Williston. Jeanette loved her family and grandchildren; she always looked forward to spending time with them. She will be missed by all who loved her.
Pallbearers will be Brandon Chavis, Justin Chavis, Homer Hammett, Matt Hooper, Chip Nolind, Tony Owens, Jamie Padgett, Phil Padgett, Donnie Pender and Philip Quick.

born in Barnwell County, she was a daughter of the late George Washington Stevenson and Mary Rebecca Black Stevenson and was married to the late Freddie Anderson Elkins. She was a member of Healing Springs Baptist Church for more than 50 years. She was owner/operator of Elkins Grocery in Healing Springs, worked for Palm Beach Manufacturing Company and retired from Pac-a- Sac Convenience Store.
Survivors include daughters, Myrtle Faglier (Robert) Cheek of Barnwell, Elizabeth (Bill) Faulkner of Williston, Jeannette (Bob) Bomar of Williston; sons, Gene W. (Corine) Elkins of Hillsville, VA, Jimmy O. (Denise) Elkins of Williston; daughter-in-law, Mayblane Elkins of Thorsby, AL; brother, James W. Stevenson, Huntsville, AL; grandchildren, Janet Gail Johnson, Jerrie Lynn Lott, Mary Hope McMullen, William Sidney Faglier, Jr., Robin Jean Hubbard, Kristie Rebecca Hutson, Kimberly Rochelle Brock, Tommy Anderson Elkins, Katina Rose Beasley, Bryan Allen Elkins, Kenneth Elkins, Scott Elkins and Debbie Moore; 20 great grandchildren and 11 great, great grandchildren. born in Judson, NC, she was the daughter of the late James Vaughn White and Victoria Jenkins White and was married to the late John “Jack” Blair Nixon, Jr. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, mother-in-law and friend to many. She was a faithful servant to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Her legacy reaches around the world many times and will last for an eternity. She was a graduate of Almond High School in Judson, NC and Draughons Business College in Knoxville, TN. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School, was a GA leader and helped on other committees. She was a librarian in Blackville for 20 years.
Survivors include her son, Rev. J.B. “Johnny” (Marni) Nixon, III of Barnwell; brother, Max White of Hickory, NC; grandchildren, Jay Nixon, Tori Ridgeway, Josh Nixon, Jonathan Speights, Matthew Speights, Heather Adams; eight great grandchildren and many adopted loved ones. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Jean N. Speights and a brother, Gerald White.

born in Bamberg County, he was a son of the late Curtis Lee Vest, Sr. and Fern Goode Vest. He was a member of Ghents Branch Baptist church and worked for Williston Transport and Williston Rescue Squad. Curtis touched the lives of those who knew him; he had a wonderful smile and he made the world a better place, by his giving and generous spirit.
Survivors include his wife of the home, Karen Morton Vest; daughter Page (Carsten) Steiner of Branchville; son, Curtis (Suzanne) Lee Vest, III, of Orangeburg; sisters, Carol Hutto of Cannan, Vickie Addy of Leesville; his loyal “right-hand man”, Bryan Singletary; grandchildren, Andruw Steiner, Nicholas Steiner, Kyle Vest, Cory Vest; a very special granddaughter, Katelynn Vest and a number of nieces and nephews. born in Sumter, SC he was a son of the late Alva Ingram and Corrine McLeod Ingram. He was a member of Blackville First Baptist Church where he as a member of the Sara Sunday School Class. He was a member of the National Guard, retired maintenance supervisor with SC Regional Housing Authority and formerly employed with Neeley Appliance of Denmark. He was an avid gardener, fisherman and hunter.
Survivors include his loving wife of 48 years, Hazel Hutson Ingram; a son, Darian (Ann) Ingram; granddaughter, Shana Ingram all of Blackville; sisters, Bessie Hooker, Ruth Gardner, Sara Gleaton; brothers, Otis (Rhonda) McLeod, Jimmy Ingram and Floyd Ingram. He was preceded in death by a brother, Wayne Ingram.

Duke Kight

William Duke Kight of Williston, SC passed away at his home on Sunday, April 17, 2011, he was 72.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 50 years, Carolyn Sue Scruggs Kight, three children, Dr. R. Carson Kight of Aiken, Kenneth D. (Susan) Kight of Barnwell, Jessica L. Kight of Williston, five grandchildren, Brad, Kirsten, Rachel, Drew, Blake, two grand dogs, Gwen, Jillien, and his four-legged best friend and companion, Andrew.
He is the eldest son of the late William A. and Aline Denman Kight of North Augusta, SC and sibling to Rodney (Page) Kight, Rocky Kight, Melinda (Dr. David) Carter, Libby (David) Rushing, of North Augusta, Coni (Dr. Darrell) Bullington of St. Petersburg, FL, and the late Kenneth A. Kight of North Augusta.
Duke was born in Cedartown, Georgia on June 26, 1938. He graduated from Williston-Elko High School, attended the University of South Carolina where he played football, and later received his Masters degree in Education from Western Carolina University in NC. Following his graduation he accepted his first coaching position for the Mid Carolina Rebels in 1962 where he stayed for three years before moving on to the Cresent High School Tigers in 1965. In 1968, he and his family came to Graniteville where he coached until he become principal of Byrd Elementary. He served as an administrator for LBC High School and Leavelle McCampbell Middle School in Aiken County. In 1983 the family moved on to Williston where Duke took position as Superintendent of schools, he stayed with the district until his first retirement in 1991. From there he took his love for education to the private schools, serving as Headmaster of Jefferson Davis Academy in Blackville, SC until his second retirement eight years later.
The last years of his life were spent mentoring students in the Aiken County Alternative schools. Duke gave 49 years to the students of South Carolina and considered each and every student his own child.
Duke was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Graniteville, SC, a former member of the Williston Lions Club, a University of South Carolina Letterman, an avid carpenter, gardener and enthusiastic Gamecock fan.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at Folk Funeral Home in Williston, SC from 6 pm until 8 pm, a celebration of his life will be held at the USC-Aiken Convocation Center Wednesday, April 20, at 5 pm with a visitation for friends beginning at 3 pm. He will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Langley SC following the celebration.
All former football players from the following teams: Mid-Carolina High School '62 -'65, Crescent High School '65-'68 and Graniteville High School '68 - '74 will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Margaret Rast Mack

Blankenship officiating. The family will receive friends at the church after the service on Tuesday. Memorials may be made to the Bereavement Committee of the First Baptist Church of Williston, P.O. Box 366, Williston, SC 29853. Margaret passed away Saturday, April 16, 2011 at her home.
Margaret was the granddaughter of the late George Bascomb and Margaret Till Rast of Cameron, SC and the late John Andrew and Effie Mathis Caldwell of Lancaster, SC. She was the eldest daughter of the late Ernest Hugo and Francella Caldwell Rast of West Columbia, SC.
She was an honor graduate of Brookland Cayce High School in 1944 and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BS degree in English and a MAT in Education from the University of South Carolina.
Margaret was employed for 13 years with the IRS and retired after 30 years from Williston-Elko District 29 as Project Coordinator. She was also a free lance writer.
She was a member of First Baptist Church, Williston, where she taught Adult Sunday School. She was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and Adult Education. She was a member of Aiken Christian Women’s Club, S. C. Humanities Council, Friends of the Library and the Arts Council of Barnwell.
Survivors are sons, Karl Edward (Donna) Mack, Jr. of Harbor Island, SC, William Caldwell (Beth) Mack of North Augusta, SC, and Paul Rast (Renee) Mack of Aiken, SC. Also surviving are grandchildren and great grandchildren and a God-child, Gail Nickens Blanding.
Surviving sisters are Ernestine “Tina” Sharpe, Betty (Dan) Lee, Shirley (Tommy) Peagler and Mary (Robert) Corley; brothers, George E. Rast, West Columbia, SC and William B. Rast, Florence, SC. Margaret was preceded in death by a sister, Martha Elizabeth and beloved brother, John Caldwell Rast and dear wife, Sylvia.

born in Conway SC, he was a son of the late James T. Elledge Jr. and Flora Victoria Long Elledge. Mr. Elledge was a U.S. Navy Veteran, a member of Rosemary Baptist Church, and retired from Dayco after 28 years.
Survivors Include his loving wife Linda Kay Williams Elledge, a daughter; Andrea Lynn Elledge, a son; Charles Edward (Patsy) Elledge all of Williston, grandchildren; Courtney Long and Sean Mims, great-grandchildren; Karen Long and Alisha Merck, sisters; Mary Hoover of Orangeburg, Brookie Driggers, Doris Bodiford and Robin Elledge all of Williston, a brother; Clarence Elledge of Williston and a number of nieces and nephews.

born in Barnwell County, he was a son of the late Lawton Hugh Still and Jada Still Still and was married to the late Mildred Hutto Still. Mr. Sam retired from E. I. DuPont, was owner/operator of Sam’s Barber Shop in Blackville for 60 years, was a member of the Blackville Masonic Lodge # 63 where he served two terms as Master, the Woodman of the World, Pat B. Coggins American Legion Post # 91, was a US Army WWII Veteran and a life member of the Blackville First Baptist Church.
Survivors include sons, Rudy (Linda) Still of Barnwell, John Pratt Still of West Virginia; daughter, Susan (Billy) Hilton of Blackville; brother, Hugh “Tater” Still of Barnwell; grandchildren, MaDonna Toole, Shannon Craig, Matthew Still, Noel Hilton, T. born in Shultz Hill, Augusta, GA, she was a daughter of the late Daniel Tilden Odom and Sallie Rountree Odom Bates and was married to the late Leon Cecil Hallman, Sr. She was a homemaker, a member of the First Baptist Church of Springfield, the Elderberries and was a GA leader for a number of years. Survivors include a son, D. T. (Ramona) Hallman of Anderson; daughter-in-law, Arlene Hallman of Springfield; grandchildren, Jewel Ann Dandridge, Andrew “Andy” Hallman, Sharon Williamson, Jason Hallman and Hilary Fowler; 16 great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. born in Barnwell, SC, she was a daughter of the late Harvard Leon Grubbs and Juanita Elizabeth Bolen Grubbs and was married to the late Benjamin Anderson Rountree, Jr. She was owner/operator of Rountree Grocery in Olar, SC for 24 years, was a member of Colston Branch Baptist Church where she served as Training Union teacher and Sunday School teacher in the preschool department for more than 50 years. She was a member, director and former president of the WMU and was a member of the Colston Branch Garden Club. She was a member and group leader of the Young at Heart Club and was a member of the Golden Age Club. She formerly worked as the clerk of the Old Dunbarton Post Office and served as treasurer for the Barnwell Bamberg Baptist Association.
Survivors include daughter, Bennie Jean “B.J.” (Sherrill Craig) Hiott, Jr.; sisters, Arnette G. Schumpert and Hazel G.
