MABEL C. WHITMIRE

Westminster – Mabel Cashin Whitmire, 91, formerly of 309 N. Ave. died shortly before 5 p.m. Tuesday, July 10, 2007 at Oconee Memorial Hospital.

born in Oconee County, she attended Westminster High School and was a member of Westminster Baptist Church, and a dedicated homemaker.

She was predeceased by her husband, Edgar James “Eddy” Whitmire and son Robert Lewis Whitmire

She was the daughter of the late Ozzie Esmond and Janie Wyly Cashin, and had survived the loss of brothers Gordon Lamar (Westminster), Edward Thomas (Orangeburg), Frank Hall (Westminster), Albert Brandes (Villa Rica, Ga.), Henry Barkley (Westminster), and sister Ethel C. Dance (Toccoa, Ga.).

She is survived by her sister, Sarah Cashin Wilhelm of Clemson and a host of loving nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 13, 2007 in the First Baptist Memorial Park in Westminster. Reverend John McKnight will officiate.

The family will receive friends 1 – 1:45 p.m. Friday, at the Sandifer Funeral Home. Flowers will be accepted.

EUNICE SHERIFF

Fair Play – Eunice Tucker Sheriff, 87 of 207 Farmhouse Lane died Wednesday, July 4, 2007 at Country Christian Care in Fair Play.

born in Oconee County in 1919, she was homemaker and a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church in Homer, Ga.

Survivors include sons Harold Sheriff and wife Betty, Reverend David Sheriff and wife Rachel, Jimmy Sheriff and wife Faye, daughters Patricia Fullbright and husband Danny, Barbara Freeman and husband William, 14 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.

Her husband John Malcolm Sheriff, son John Wayne Sheriff, parents Samuel and Eloise Moore Tucker, brothers Ray, Charles and Marvin Tucker and grandson David Sheriff, Jr. precede her in death.

Funeral services will be 11 am Saturday, July 7, 2007 in the Chapel of Sandifer Funeral Home in Westminster. Burial will be 3 pm Saturday at Rock Springs Baptist Church cemetery in Homer, GA.

The family will receive friends 6-8 pm, Friday, July 6, 2007 at the Sandifer Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1830 Rogers Rd., Anderson, SC 29621. The family is at the home of son David and Rachel Sheriff, 475 Williams Farm Rd., Westminster.

Fair Play – Frances Russell Stancil, 87, formerly of W. Pine Grove Rd., died Tuesday, July 03, 2007 at her daughter’s home in Fair Play.

born in Jefferson City, TN in 1919, Mrs. Stancil retired from J.P. Stevens Clemson Plant and was a member of Fair Play Church of God.

Survivors include sons Eddie L. Stancil of Fair Play, Rev. Larry E. Stancil of Townville, and Marty Stancil of Fair Play, daughters Jeanene Evans of Bowersville, GA, Avelene Brewer of Seneca and Sandra Harper of Fair Play, brothers Hobert Collins of Knoxville, TN, half-brothers Henry Ford Russell of Portland, OR and James Russell of Arizona, sister Gladys Cothran of Knoxville, TN, seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Her husband, Rev. Robert Edgar Stancil and parents Henry McCorkle and Nellie Mae Wright Russell precede her in death.

Funeral services will be 11 am, Thursday, July 5, 2007 at the Fair Play Church of God in Fair Play. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm, Wednesday, July 4, 2007 at the Sandifer Funeral Home in Westminster. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Fair Church of God, 301 W. Westminster – Nettie Drucilla Carver Metcalfe, 80 formerly of Westminster died Wednesday, June 27, 2007 at Lila Doyle Nursing Center.

born in Oconee County in 1926 she was a homemaker. Mrs. Metcalfe attended True Christian Fellowship.

Surviving are sons Leonard Hugh Carver of Cleveland, TN, three grandchildren Ryan Heath Carver of Nashville, Heather Elizabeth Carver and Tyler Hugh Carver.

Her husband J.D. Metcalfe, parents Leonard and Essie Ramey Carver and sisters Minnie Ramey and Beulah Ramey precede her in death.

Funeral services will be 11 AM, Saturday, June 30, 2007 in the Chapel of Sandifer Funeral Home in Westminster. Burial will follow in Calvary Church of God cemetery.

The family will receive friends 6-8 pm, Friday, June 29, 2007 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Men and Women of Action, PO Box 2430, Cleveland, TN 37320. The family is at their respective homes.

Westminster – Billy Frank Turner, 59 of 1820 Clearmont Rd., died Wednesday, June 27, 2007 at his residence.

born in Pickens County in 1949, he had been retired Mayfair Mills in Easley prior to retiring from Square D Company, where he retired. Mr. Turner was a member of Clearmont Baptist Church in Westminster.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Diana Brock Turner of the home, children Michael Mauldin, Dawn Turner, Lamar Honea and Sherry Gibson, brothers Carl Turner and wife Carolyn of Easley, Buford York of Easley, Roger Turner and wife Vickie of Easley and Ken Turner and wife Betham of New Jersey, sisters Betty Cantrell and husband Doyle of Pickens, Louise Medlin of Easley, Pat Jenkins and husband Charles of Easley, seven grandchildren and one great grandchild.

His parents Carl and Sadie Moore Turner and sister Ranelle Sentell precede him in death.

Funeral services will be 3 PM, Friday, June 29, 2007 in the Chapel of Sandifer Funeral Home in Westminster. Burial will follow in Clearmont Baptist Church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1-3 PM, Friday, prior to the service at the funeral home. The family is at the residence and flowers are accepted.

Seneca – Betty Wynne Barnett, 79 of 6005 Kaye St., died Wednesday, June 27, 2007 at Regency Hospital/ St. Francis in Greenville.

born in Oconee County, she was a graduate of Westminster High School and retired from Kendall Company where she was a seamstress. Mrs. Barnett was a member of Utica Baptist Church.

Survivors include son David James of Seneca, stepson Larry Barnett, stepdaughter Judy Barnett brother Pruitt Wynne of Westminster, sisters Frances Marcengill of Westminster and Ruth Moss of Greenwood, grandchildren Jessica James, Ashley McGhee and Sandy Locklair, step grandchildren Christopher Barnett and Patrick Barnett and great granddaughter Emily Rose Locklair.

Twice married , her first husband John Warren James and second husband John Lewis Barnett, sons Randal Wynne James and Douglas Franklin James, parents Furman Franklin and Ethel Cheek Wynne, brothers Dennis and Ralph Wynne, sister Dorothy Callaham and grandson John Ivan James precede her in death.

Funeral services will be 11 am, Friday June 29, 2007 in the Chapel of Sandifer Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Oconee Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends 6-8 pm, Thursday, June 28, 2007 at the funeral home. The family is at the residence. Flowers are accepted.

Seneca - Rosa Lee Pointer, 79, a loving wife, mother and grandmother, of 618 Evelyn Dr. passed away June 24, 2007 at her residence.

born in Westminster in 1927, she was a pastor’s wife and homemaker. Mrs. Pointer was a member of Lydia Baptist Church, the past president of the Woman’s Missionary Union, Sunday school teacher and Discipleship Training teacher.

Surviving are her husband of 62 years, Rev. Carl W. Pointer, sons Jerry Thomas Pointer and wife Dee of Pendleton, Carl Danny Pointer and wife Elizabeth of Greer, daughter Sandi Lee Cox of Piedmont, nine grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

Her parents Wade and Zelia Smith, brother Clarence Smith and sister Louise Cox precede her in death.

Funeral services will be 7 pm, Wednesday, June 27, 2007 in the Chapel of Sandifer Funeral Home, Westminster. A private burial will be held at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church cemetery.

The family will receive friends 5-7 pm, prior to the service at the funeral home. The family is at the residence. Flowers are accepted or memorials in Mrs. Pointer’s memory may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

BLUFFTON - Jason Doss “Squints” Barrett, 21, of Westminster, SC died June 22, 2007 in Seneca, SC.

He was born in Columbia, SC. His occupation was Landscaping.

He is survived by his Mother Patricia Doss John and Step-Father Jens John of Bluffton, SC, Father Michael Larry Barrett of Wallace, NC, brothers Michael James Barrett and wife Courtney of Bossier City, La., Bradley Eugene Barrett of Clemson and Zach Mitchell of Westminster, Paternal Grandparents Gene & Joy Barrett of Richlands, NC.

His maternal grandparents, James & Nellie Doss precede his death.

Funeral Services will be 4 PM, Sunday, June 24, 2007 at Calvary Church of God. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 at the church prior to the service.

The family request memorials be made to the Youth Center, Calvary Church of God, 10102 Long Creek Hwy., Westminster.

Mtn. Rest – Ellen Fay Lee Ables, 81, wife of the late Clyde Ables, 280 Ables Dr., died Tuesday, July 31, 2007 at her residence.

born in Long Creek in 1926, she was a former executive housekeeper at OMH and SCH. Mrs. Ables attended Berry College, and was a member of Long Creek Baptist Church where she served as secretary and treasurer and Sunday School Class teacher.

Surviving is son, Michael Edward Ables and wife Catherine of Snellville, GA., grandchildren, Meredith Leigh McDaniel and husband James, PFC. Christopher Michael Ables and wife Merry and Larry Todd Alexander and wife Charlene, 5 great grandchildren Tyler James McDaniel, Sterling Jane Caspersen, Catherine Faye Ables, Austin Todd Alexander and Myra Ann Alexander and brother J.C. Lee of Westminster.

Her husband, the late Clyde Ables, parents Edward Lee and Nell Phillips Lee Thrift, brothers Bruce and Fleet Lee and sister Miss Betty J. Lee precede her in death.

Funeral services will be 11 am Friday, August 3, 2007 in the Chapel of Sandifer Funeral Home in Westminster. Burial will follow at Long Creek Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends 6-8 pm Thursday, August 2, 2007, at the funeral home. Flowers are accepted or memorials may be made to Hospice of the Foothills Foundation, 390 Keowee School Rd, Seneca, SC 29672. The family is at the residence.

LORENE DYAR GRANT

Westminster – Dorothy Lorene Dyar Grant, 40, of 350 Grant Rd., died Thursday, July 26, 2007 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

born in Oconee County in 1967 she was a homemaker and a member of Temple Baptist Church.

Surviving is husband Steve Anthony Grant of the home, daughters Brittany Marie and Amber Lynn Grant of the home, parents Reverend Larry and Dorothy King Dyar of Westminster, brothers Larry Keith Dyar and Andrew Earl Dyar both of Westminster and sisters Donna Lynn Bryson of Fair Play and Melissa Renee Brown of Westminster.

Funeral services will be 2 pm, Sunday, July 29, 2007 in the Chapel of Sandifer Funeral Home in Westminster with Rev, Gerald Morgan and Rev. Cliff Harvey officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Tabor Baptist Church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm, Saturday, July 28, 2007 at the funeral home. The family is at the home of mother-in-law Bonnie McAlister, 360 Grant Rd, Westminster and also the home of her parents, Rev. and Mrs. Dyar, 345 Cedar Wood Ranch Rd., Westminster. Flowers are accepted.

Jurriel Burdette

Westminster – Jurriel Faye Turner Burdette, 64, of 135 Welcome Church Rd., died Wednesday July 25, 2007 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

born in 1943 in Kings Mtn., NC she was a homemaker and a member of Welcome Baptist Church.

Surviving are sons Roger Dale Turner of Westminster and Jonathan Scott Turner of Seneca, daughters Rita Langston, Felicia Craig and Brenda Bonham all of Westminster and step daughter Tammy Pitts of Georgia, brothers Ray, Larry and Stevie McNeely all of North Carolina, 17 grandchildren and one great grandchild and one step grandchild.

Twice married she is preceded in death by husbands John Bunyon Turner, Jr. and Carl Louie Burdette, parents Samuel JD and Irene McKee McNeely, sons Timothy Lane Turner, Johnny Turner and David Turner, daughters Connie Sue Turner and Cynthia Delores Turner.

Funeral services will be 2 PM Saturday, July 28, 2007 at Chauga Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Burdette will lie in state at 1 PM.

The family will receive friends from 4-6 PM, Friday, July 27, 2007 at the Sandifer Funeral Home, Westminster. The family is at the home of daughter, Felicia Craig, 9226 Long Creek Hwy, Westminster, SC 29693. Flowers are accepted or memorials may be made in Jurriel’s memory in care of Sandifer Funeral Home, PO Box 69, Westminster, SC 29693.
