McCRARY, Samuel
EDISTO BEACH, S.C. - Samuel H. "Sammy" McCrary, 48, of Edisto Beach, died November 11, 2001, at a Columbia hospital.
born in Greenville, S.C., he was the son of the late Sam H. and Marian Rose Padgett McCrary. He was a graduate of Lander University in Greenwood, S.C., and was employed as a chef at the Heron House Restaurant, he was also manager of Edisto Bike Rentals and a free-lance photographer.
Surviving are two sisters, Rose Ann Johnson of Columbia, S.C., and Mary Lynn Young of Edisto Island, S.C.
Memorial services will be 3 p.m., Wednesday, November 14, 2001, at the Edisto Beach Baptist Church with Rev. Tony Neal officiating.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 5 until 7 p.m. at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Dillard Young, 8250 Chisolm Plantation Road, Edisto Island, S.C.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully request that memorials be made to the Edisto Island Rural Mission Project of Edisto Island, S.C., 414 Jungle Road, Edisto Island, S.C. 29438.

KEMP, JR., Robert
Judge Robert Watson Kemp, Jr., born March 3, 1922, in Sylvania, Ga., passed away on November 11, 2001, at his home after a brief illness.
Judge Kemp was the son of the late Robert W. Kemp, Sr., and Norma Harley Kemp. At age 12, he moved to Bamberg with his parents and sister, Carolyn Kemp Allen.
After attending Furman for one year, Kemp entered the University of South Carolina in 1940. While at USC he joined the Marine Corps in 1942 and was sent to Duke University as part of a Marine Corps program and then to Paris Island for basic training.
Judge Kemp attended Officer Candidate School at Quantico, Va., and was sent to Camp Pendleton, Calif., before being sent to the Pacific Theater. He was discharged from the Marine Corps with the rank of Captain in June 1946.
After returning from the Marine Corps, Judge Kemp went back to USC for one semester and then entered Law School in 1947, graduating in January 1949.
He joined the Federal Bureau of Investigation in May 1949 and returned to Bamberg in 1956 to practice law with the late J. Carl Kearse and late Judge J.B. Ness. Judge Kemp later joined the firm of Kemp and Rhoad (W.D. Rhoad, III).
Judge Kemp was elected to the S.C. House of Representatives for six terms, serving from 1962-1974.
He was elected to serve as a Family Court Judge by the S.C. House and Senate in 1974, and he retired from the Bench on July 1, 1983.
Judge Kemp is the state's only Family Court Judge to serve from Bamberg County.
Judge Kemp was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bamberg, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, Lions Club, the Bamberg County Bar Association, and the South Carolina Bar Association.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Virginia Beard Kemp; two daughters and sons-in-law, Phyllis and Gene Schwarting, Nancy and Bruce Watson; four sons and daughters-in-law, Bobby and June Kemp, Billy and Frankie Kemp, Jim and Paige Kemp, Richard and Alice Kemp, 18 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and his mother-in-law, Rossie Beard Lane all of Bamberg.
Judge Kemp is also survived by four nieces, Mrs. Norma Palmer, Ms. Paula Tanner, Mrs. Robin Williams, and Mrs. Ricky Kearse, and a brother-in-law, Richard D. Allen all of Bamberg.
Judge Kemp was predeceased by his sister, Carolyn Kemp Allen.
Memorials can be made to the Bamberg School District One Education Foundation, P.O. Box 526, Bamberg, S.C. 29003.
The family is at the home of Gene and Phyllis Schwarting, Bamberg, S.C. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, November 13, 2001, at COONER FUNERAL HOME, BAMBERG. The funeral will be Wednesday, November, 14, 2001, at 3:30 p.m., at the First Baptist Church in Bamberg, S.C. Burial will be at the Bamberg Memory Gardens.

McKEON, George
Entered into eternal rest Sunday, November 11, 2001, George P. McKeon, of Mt. Pleasant, S.C. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. George P. McKeon are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial of the former, Thursday morning, November 15, 2001, in Christ Our King Catholic Church at 10:30 o'clock. Prayers of Commendation and Farewell will be in Magnolia cemetery. Friends may call at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, Wednesday afternoon from 3 until 5 o'clock and Wednesday evening from 7 until 9 p.m.
Mr. McKeon was born in New York, N.Y., a son of John J. and Bridget McKeon. He was a retired hotel manager and was a member of Christ Our King Catholic Church. Mr. McKeon was an U.S. Army Veteran of World War II. he graduated from DeWitt Clinton High School, attended Cathedral College and was a member of the Lions Club International and Alumni Federation of New York University.
Surviving are his wife, Kathleen McGuire McKeon, one son, George P. McKeon, Jr., of Bloomfield, Conn., three daughters, Mary Beth Dacey of Kiawah Island, S.C., Kathleen Graham of Marina Del Ray, Calif., and Bernadette Hohenadel of Elizabethtown, Pa., and six grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Christ Our King Catholic Church, Building Fund, 1122 Russell Drive, Mt. Pleasant, S.C. 29464.

BRITTON, JR., Charles
Charles Evan "Chuck" Britton, Jr., 47, of St. Augustine, Fla., formerly of Hanahan, died Sunday at his home. A Memorial Service will be held at 4 p.m., Friday, in Carolina Memorial Funeral Home. born in Sumter, he was the son of Charles Evan Britton, Sr., and Barbara Britton. Mr. Britton was a retired chef. He was a 1972 graduate of Hanahan High School and a former member of Divine Redeemer Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Paris F. Britton; daughters, Karrie B. Skipper, and Kasey A. Britton, both of Goose Creek; sister, Bobbie Soto and Sandra Floyd, both of Summerville; brothers, Robert Britton of Moncks Corner, Eddie Britton of North Charleston, Patrick Britton of Summerville and Michael Britton of Atlanta, Ga.; a granddaughter, Kelsay A. Williams.
The family will receive friends from 2:30 until time of the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the family to defray health care costs.

PENDERGRASS, James
MURRELLS INLET - James "Jimmy" Allen Pendergrass, age 60, of Murrells Inlet, died Sunday, November 11, 2001, at a Charleston hospital.
born October 17, 1941, in Charleston, S.C., son of A.C. Pendergrass and the late Mary Bunch Pendergrass. Mr. Pendergrass was an U.S. Air Force veteran. He was a charter member of the Adventurers Unlimited and a charter member of the Sertoma Club of Garden City Beach. He was the owner of Pendergrass Realty Co. and a member of the Greater Horry County Board of Realtors. Mr. Pendergrass was a member of Surfside United Methodist Church.
Surviving in addition to his father of Garden City Beach are his wife, Shirley B. Pendergrass; son, David Allen Pendergrass and wife Becky of Murrells Inlet; daughter, Jill P. Lanford and husband Lee of Georgetown; brother, Tommy H. Pendergrass and wife Susan of Murrells Inlet; sisters, Joyce P. Burkett of Garden City Beach and Lynda P. Wilson and husband, Michael of Bowling Green, Ky., and grandchildren, Abigail and Harrison Pendergrass and Madeline Lanford.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Tuesday, at Surfside United Methodist Church. Entombment will follow in Hillcrest Mausoleum.
GOLDFINCH FUNERAL HOME, MURRELLS INLET, is in charge of arrangements.

COOPER, JR., Robert
ANDREWS - Robert Peter Cooper, Jr., 75, died Sunday, November 11, 2001, at his residence after an illness.
Mr. Cooper was born in Jamestown on September 5, 1926. he was a son of the late Robert Peter Cooper and Blanche Conway Gamble Cooper and beloved step-son of the late Nettie Knight Cooper. Mr. Cooper grew up in Sutton Community and was a graduate of Andrews High School and Clemson University. He was an employee of the Farmers Home Administration, a division of the U.S. Dept of Agriculture, for 30 years and retired September 1985. Mr. Cooper was also a farmer his entire life and served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.
Mr. Cooper was an active member of Sutton United Methodist Church and was the church treasurer for over 40 years. He will be missed by family and friends.
Surviving are, his wife, Clara Rudd Cooper of Andrews; a daughter, Cindy Cooper Youell and her husband, Dr. Timothy D. Youell of Altamonte Springs, Fla.; a son, Robert E. Cooper and his wife, Robyn M. Cooper of Andrews; a brother, Donald E. Cooper of Andrews; two granddaughters, Crystal A. Cooper of Andrews and Catherine S. Youell of Altamonte Springs, Fla.; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Cooper was predeceased by a brother, Charles Franklin Cooper.
Funeral services will be Wednesday afternoon, November 14, 2001, at 3 o'clock at Sutton United Methodist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. J. Robert Huggins and the Rev. Murray W. Powell. Burial will be in the Churchyard under the direction of the ANDREWS CHAPEL OF MAYER FUNERAL HOME.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Tuesday evening, November 13, 2001, from 7 until 9 o'clock.
The family suggests memorials to Sutton United Methodist Church Building Fund, 2521 Santee Road, Andrews, S.C. 29510.

REID, Geraldine
The relatives and friends of Mrs. Geraldine Reid of Moncks Corner, S.C., wife of Mr. Wendell Reid, are invited to attend her funeral services, Wednesday, November 14, 2001, 3:30 p.m. at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Family, Moncks Corner, S.C. Interment, church cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday from 3 to 8 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 6 to 7 p.m. at GETHERS FUNERAL HOME, INC., MONCKS CORNER, S.C.

LIGHT, Enoch
Mr. Enoch Burton Light, 59, of 4571 Joe Miley Road near Brunson, died Sunday afternoon in a Hampton hospital after a brief illness.
Mr. Light was born in Lee County, Va., June 21, 1942, a son of the late Judge Finley Light and Corinne Vaughan Light. He had retired as a tool and die maker with Scottsman Manufacturing Company in Fairfax.
Surviving are, his wife, Rosann Merriott Light of Brunson; three sons, James Michael Light and Joel Burton Light, both of Lebanon, Ind., and Jon Michael Light of Brunson; one sister, Delphine Blazier of Sheridan, Ind.; and a half-sister, Lorraine Phelps of Lebanon, Ind.; he was pre-deceased by a son, Jay Kendall Light. There are 13 grandchildren, and two great-great-grandsons.
Private memorial services will be held at a later date.
