Ophelia McKie Johnson
Mrs. Ophelia McKie Johnson, 79, of North Augusta, died Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at Pepper Hill Nursing Center
Funeral services were held Sunday, March 6, at 3 p.m. at Gospel of Deliverance Inc., with Bishop Dr. Walter Kearse Jr. officiating. Burial was in Old Macedonia Baptist Church cemetery.
Mrs. Johnson, a native of Edgefield County, was a member of Gospel of Deliverance Inc. where she served as mother of the church.
Survivors include two daughters, Gloria J. Tanks, North Augusta, and Blanche (Bishop George T.) Roper, McCormick; four sons, the Rev. David (Catherine) Johnson, Arthur (Ethel) Johnson, North Augusta, Elder Willie James (Damita) Johnson, Murrieta, Calif., and Robert (Barbara) Hammond, Hephzibah, Ga.; four sisters, Mattie B. (William) Griffin, Temple Hill, Md., the Rev. Nannie L. (John) Blocker, Josephine (Yancy) Mance, Trenton, and Lola McKie, Burnettown; a brother, Herman (Ruth) McKie, Aiken; 24 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives.
G. L. Brightharp & Sons Mortuary, North Augusta, was in charge of arrangements.

Victoria Elizabeth Lybrand
Victoria Elizabeth Lybrand, 43, of Ridge Spring, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2011.
A memorial service was held Saturday, March 5, at 3 p.m. at Milton Shealy Funeral Home Chapel.
She was born in Aiken, the daughter of Bernice Senterfeit Huckabee and the late Willie Hickabee. She was a homemaker.
In addition to her mother, survivors include sons, David, Aaron, Skylar and Matthew Lybrand, Raven and Damon Dozier; a daughter, Heather Lybrand; and three grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a brother, Furman C. Huckabee.
Memorials may be made to Milton Shealy Funeral Home, Victoria Lybrand memory, 115 N. Pine Street, Batesburg-Leesville, SC 29006.

Lula M. Hammond Nabritt
Funeral services for Mrs. Lula M. Hammond Nabritt, 91, of Lamar Court in North Augusta, were held Saturday, March 5, 2011 at 1 p.m. at Old Macedonia Baptist Church, with the Rev. Limuer Myers officiating. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Nabritt, who died Feb. 25, was a native of Edgefield County.
G.L. Brightharp & Sons Mortuary, North Augusta, was in charge of arrangements.

Cathy H. Rimer
Mrs. Cathy H. Rimer, 65, wife of the late George Alexander Rimer Sr., of Orchard Way in North Augusta, died Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at her residence.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 4, at 11 a.m. at Rowland Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Phillip Howle officiating. Private family burial will be held at a later date.
Mrs. Rimer moved to the area in 1971 from Columbia and was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Alex Rimer (Tonya), North Augusta; a daughter, Lisa Thibodeau (Billy), North Augusta; a brother, Bobby Haynes (Debbie), Columbia; four grandchildren, Katelyn Rimer, Alex Thibodeau, Shayne Rimer and Brad Thibodeau; and two nephews, Christopher Haynes and Darin Haynes.
Memorials may be made to Antioch Baptist Church, 1843 Highway 23 W, Edgefield, SC 29824.
Rowland Funeral Home was in charge or arrangements.

Judith Skipper
Mrs. Judith Skipper, 50, wife of Jeff Skipper, of Whippoorwill Lane in Trenton, died Monday, Feb. 28, 2011 at University Hospital in Augusta, Ga.
Her funeral service was held Thursday, March 3, at 1 p.m. at Rowland Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. David Dillard officiating. Burial was in Pineview Memorial Park. Mrs. Skipper was a member of Warren Baptist Church and worked in the children's department for many years. She loved her dog, Doobie, and had a great love for animals. She was an avid NASCAR fan and loved racing.
Additional survivors include a son, Hunter Adam Skipper; her father, Charles D. Lentile; her mother and stepfather, William A. and Mickey Bush; a sister, Dianne Price; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Evelyn and Chester Skipper; a brother-in-law, Joey Skipper; a nephew, Carlton Price; two great-nephews, Blake Austin Price and Aiden Connor Price; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Memorials may be made to the Children's Miracle Network, 611 Saint Joseph Avenue, Marshfield, WI 54449.

Forrest D. Youell
March 6th, 1926 - February 17th, 2010
North Augusta, S.C - Mr. Forrest D. Youell, husband of sixty years to Doris Bonnett Youell, entered into rest on Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at his residence. Funeral service will be held on Friday, February 19, 2010 at 2:00pm at First Baptist Church of North Augusta with Dr. Gary C. Redding and Rev. Roy Kiser officiating. Entombment will follow at Pineview Memorial Park. Mr. Youell was a native of Charleston, WV and lived in North Augusta, SC for 27 years. He was a veteran of World War II and was a recipient of a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. Mr. Youell was a member of First Baptist Church of North Augusta, a Free Mason, a member of the American Legion Post 71 and was retired after 33 years from Dupont where he was a Control Superintendent. In addition to his wife, Mr. Youell is survived by one daughter, Cheryl Melton and husband Doug of North Augusta, SC; three sons, Gary Youell and wife Rhonda of Aiken, SC, Timothy Youell and wife Cindy of Orlando, FL, and Scott Youell of North Augusta, SC; one brother, Gordon Youell of Lexington Park, MD; nine grandchildren and one great grandchild. Pallbearers will be Chad Youell, Nathan Youell, Philip Melton, Richard Melton, Marc Regier, and Bill Bishop. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of North Augusta, Children’s Learning Center, 625 Georgia Avenue, North Augusta, SC 29841.

Timothy Lee Hotlzendorff
August 28th, 1945 - July 16th, 2010
North Augusta, SC - Mr. Timothy Lee Holtzendorff, husband of Frances R. Holtzendorff, went home to be with the Lord at his residence Friday, July 16, 2010. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 19, 2010 at 11AM at the Sweetwater Baptist Church with Rev. Brian Fields & Dr. Paul Noe officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Mr. Holtzendorff was a member of Grace Fellowship Baptist Church in Augusta and was retired from Kimberly Clark where he was lead production operator. Mr. Holtzendorff’s family includes his three children: Tracy, Oklahoma, Brad, North Augusta, & Malina, Charleston; a sister, Harlene Jones and a brother, Phillip Holtzendorff, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews, brother & sister-in-laws and other relatives and friends. Pallbearers will be Robert Ratcliff, Roger Ratcliff, Carl Ratcliff, Dean McDaniel, Mike Garris, Steve Whisenant, Johnathan Lay, and Jerry Deese.

Curtis Pearson
September 12th, 1935 - March 8th, 2010
North Augusta, S.C - Mr. Curtis Pearson, 74, passed away in his sleep on Monday, March 8, 2010 at his residence. A native of Louisiana, Mr. Pearson was a long time resident of North Augusta. He was employed by International Paper in Augusta, GA and prior to that worked for Austin Industries in Augusta. A victim of Lou Gehrig’s Disease, Mr. Pearson is survived by four sons: Curtis Samual Pearson, Donnie Poucher, Dale Poucher, and David Pearson; two daughters, Connie Poucher LaRocca and Darlene Poucher Prater; a twin sister, Murtis Pearson Spiers; several grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Young Pearson; two sisters, Brenes Pearson Norwood and Mildred Pearson Lofton, and one brother Sonny Pearson, all of Louisiana. The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 13, 2010 from 8 to 10pm at Rowland Funeral Home. His funeral and interment services will be held at Life Church in Galvez, LA the following week.

Rena Ray Miller
June 4th, 1978 - July 2nd, 2010
Hephzibah, GA - Ms. Rena Ray Miller, 32 of Pine Ridge Dr., entered into rest on Friday, July 2, 2010 at her residence. Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, July 7, 2010 in the Rowland Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Paul Robertson officiating. Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Rena was a loving, caring, fun-loving person. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and loved her dog, Rascal. She is survived by her mother, Sharon Rose; her father, Frederick Rose and a brother, Thomas Rose all of Hephzibah; three sisters, Rebecca Miller of Hephzibah, Melissa Insalaco of Augusta and Patricia Scoggins of OK; an uncle Stan Miller of OK; five nieces, Sarah, Savannah, Samantha, Briana and Anna and three nephews, Thomas, James and Alex. She was preceded in death by her father, Steven A. Miller.

Audrey Murdock Austin
January 15th, 1923 - January 24th, 2010
North Augusta, SC - Mrs. Audrey Murdock Austin, wife of Henry W. Austin of Riverview Drive, entered into rest on Sunday, January 24, 2010 at National Health Care. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 27, 2010 in the Chapel of Rowland Funeral Home at 11:00 am with Rev. Sherrell Dunn officiating. Interment will be in Westover Memorial Park, Augusta, GA. Mrs. Austin was born January 15, 1923 in Savannah, GA to Furman and Essie Ray Murdock. She was a member of Curtis Baptist Church and was retired from University Hospital where she worked as a clerk. She previously worked for the FBI where she was once named secretary of the year. She also had volunteered for the USO. She is survived by a number of nieces and nephews, including her caretaker, Toni Yount of North Augusta. Mrs. Austin was proceeded in death by two brothers and one sister: Charles “Tony” Robert Murdock, Harry “Buddy” Murdock, and Doris Murdock Camp.

Edwin K. Ashe, Sr.
May 6th, 1928 - February 3rd, 2010
Edwin Kirkpatrick Ashe, Sr., age 81, of 770 West Martintown Road, North Augusta, South Carolina, passed away Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at Select Specialty Hospital in Augusta, Ga. His four sons were by his side as were numerous other family members. He was born May 6, 1928, in the family home in McConnells, South Carolina, in York County, and is the sixth child of the William Elias Ashe, Sr., and Macie Kirkpatrick Ashe. Funeral Services for Mr. Ashe will be conducted, Saturday, February 6, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Fairview Presbyterian Church with Dr. Robert F. Fuller and Dr. G. Daniel McCall officiating. Interment will be at Pineview Memorial Park with Military Honors accorded at the graveside. Mr. Ashe’s grandsons will serve as his pallbearers. Edwin dedicated his life to the Lord, his Savior Jesus Christ, at an early age. He was raised in a Christian home and attended grade school in McConnellsville, York High School, and graduated from Lewisville High School, in Richburg (Chester County), SC. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during WWII. He attended college at the Citadel and graduated in 1951 from Presbyterian College in Clinton, SC. Edwin was a retired Health Physicist with E.I. DuPont at the Savannah River Plant. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Anita Kirby Ashe, his dear brothers and sisters, Lois Ashe Moore and Eliza Inman Ashe Darby, William (Billy) Elias Ashe, Jr. and James (Calvin) Ashe. He is survived by his beloved brother F. Marion Ashe and his wife Eleanor of Greenville, SC. He is also survived by his four sons: Kirk, Kirby (Dianne) and Bryan (Geri) Ashe of North Augusta and Charles (Angela) Ashe of Edgefield, SC. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Colin (Megan), Macie, Blake, Kelly, Erin, Alison, Will, Erica (Craig), Shannon, Corey, David, Chris, Brandon (Erin), Brenna, Kate, Abby and great-grandchildren Chandler, Morgan, Cassidy, Jaxson and Audrey. He is also survived by his cousins Davis Lever, Ina Elizabeth Frame and Ruth Sample, Grace Ashe McSween and many other cousins and friends.

Wilfred Lee Wagher
December 22nd, 1920 - October 11th, 2010
North Augusta, SC - Mr. Wilfred Lee Wagher, 89, of Silver Maple Dr, entered into rest on Monday, October 11, 2010 at his residence. His graveside service will be held on Sunday, October 17, 2010 at 2:00 pm at Sunset Hill cemetery. Mr. Wagher was a native of Altona, IL and had made North Augusta his home for the past five years. He served as a bombardier in the Army Air Corps during World War II and in the Air Force during the Korean War. Survivors include a son, Stan Wagher (Judi) of North Augusta; a daughter Verna Allen of Rio, IL; two brothers, Earl Wagher and Tom Wagher; two sisters, Rose Niebuhr and Patty Haritos all of IL; six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years Audrey E. Wagher.

Velma Elise Carpenter
September 12th, 1921 - October 18th, 2010
North Augusta, SC - Mrs. Velma Elise Carpenter, 89, wife of the late William Frank Carpenter, entered into rest on Monday, October 18, 2010 at University Hospital. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at 2:00 pm at Pineview Memorial Park with Rev. Jerry T. Matthews officiating. Mrs. Carpenter, formerly of Belvedere, moved to the area in 1952 from Lexington, SC. She retired as a clerical worker from United Merchants Manufacturing. She was a member of First Baptist Church of North Augusta, where she was a member of the Faithful Sunday School Class. Additional survivors include two nieces, Elizabeth Hixon of North Augusta, SC and Martha griffin of Lake Murray, SC; and one brother-in-law, Bill Holder of Aiken, SC. The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff of National Healthcare in North Augusta and to the staff of the 7th floor at University Hospital. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Faithful Sunday School Class.
