Angelo Seegars

FLORENCE -- Funeral service for Mr. Angelo Seegars will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, 2001 in South Florence High School Auditorium with the Rev. Troy Randall officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memory Gardens directed by Peoples Funeral Service of Florence.

Mr. Seegars died Tuesday Nov. 27.

He was born in Washington, D.C., a son of Andrew Seegars and Celia Mae Williams. He was a graduate of Wilson High School and a member of The Church of the Nazarene. He was employed by Florence School District 1.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Johnnie Belinda Seegars; four children, Angelo and Precious Seegars of the home; Rashelle Brown and DeAngelo Rush; his mother, Celia Mae Williams; his father, Andrew Seegars; a sister, Tena Dixon; a brother, Randy Seegars; his mother-in-law, Mrs. Betty Green; and his father-in-law, J.D. Lane.

Eula Mae Brockington Sherrod

FLORENCE -- Funeral services for Mrs. Eula Mae Sherrod will be held 12:00 Saturday at St. Peter Believers Holiness Church, 509 Commander Street, Florence, SC. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens. She died on November 27, 2001.

born in Sardis, SC, she was the daughter of Mr. John Brockington and Mrs. Mary Skeeters Brockington.

Surviving are her daughter Josephine (Herman) Daniels; granddaughters, Lisa Cusack, Mary (Ulysses) Lewis, Angela (Charles) Cain, Chilton (Michael) Ellis; sisters, Ethel Sims, Pearl Harrington; twelve great-grandchildren.

Family is receiving friends on 712 Howe Springs Road, Florence, SC.

Olivia Harrell McLean

COLUMBIA -- Funeral services for Mrs. Olivia Harrell McLean, 86, of Columbia, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday afternoon, Dec. 2, 2001, in Temple Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Dr. James W. Salter. Interment will be in Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today in Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel. Memorials may be made to the Temple Baptist Church, Missionary Fund, 806 Universal Drive, Columbia, S.C. 29209. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Deacons of Temple Baptist Church.

Mrs. McLean, widow of John Daniel McLean, died Thursday, Nov. 29. born in Timmonsville she was a daughter of the late Grover Cleveland and Gladys Lane Harrell.

Mrs. McLean attended Winthrop College. She was a former member of Colonial Heights Baptist Church and an active member of Temple Baptist Church. Mrs. McLean was a member of the RR Ladies Organization and the Eastern Star, Eau Claire Chapter # She was a department store salesperson for 15 years and retired from Belk Department Store after 20 years of service.

Survivors are daughter and son-in-law, Evelyn and John W. (Bill) Chavis of Columbia; sons, John Harrell McLean of Columbia and Timothy Roderick McLean of Tucson, Ariz.; granddaughter, Tanya B. Allen and her husband, Steven P., of Columbia; sisters, Winnie Kate Stewart of Pell City, Ala., Beverly Harrell of Columbia and Gertrude Miller of Lake City, Fla.; and a brother, Peter Harrell of Timmonsville. Mrs. McLean was predeceased by a daughter, Marilyn Vanessa McLean.

Mildred R. Tucker

HARTSVILLE -- Mrs. Mildred R. Tucker, 84, died Friday afternoon, Nov. 30, 2001 in a local hospital following an illness. born in Sapulpa, Okla., a daughter of the late William and Sally Thomas Rose. She was a member of Gregg Street Church of Christ, Florence.

Surviving are her husband, Vernie Tucker of Hartsville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gerand and Wanda Tucker of Bethany, Okla., and Robert and Barbara Tucker of Oklahoma City, Okla.; a daughter and son-in-law, Patsy Tucker and Willie Alcorne of Hartsville; a brother, William Rose of Sapulpa, Okla.; two sisters and brother-in-law, Ruby Bush of Jonesboro, Ark., and Doris and Kenny Lewis of Arkansas City, Kan.; six grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Memorials are suggested to: In Search of the Lord's Way, P.O. Box 371, Edmond, Okla. 73083-0371.

Plans will be announced by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home.

Augusta Davis White

SUMTER -- Mrs. Augusta Davis White of 750 N. Main St., Sumter and lifetime resident of Sumter passed away on Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001 in Tuomey Regional Medical Center, Sumter.

Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2 in Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Sumter. Burial will be in Walker cemetery. The family is receiving friends at 750 N. Main St., Sumter. Mrs. White will lie in state for viewing at the church on 325 Fulton St., Sumter, the Rev. James Blassingame, D.Min., Pastor. Directed by the Jackson & McGill Funeral Service of Marion.

Anna Belle Stafford

FLORENCE -- Anne Belle Stafford, 92, who previously resided at 506 W. Cheves Street, a retired school teacher form McKenzie Elementary School, formerly Park School, died Friday, November 30, 2001 at the Presbyterian Home in Easley, SC. born February 4, 1909, in Bishopville, SC, she was the daughter of the late Walter Elvin Stafford and Mary Leona Bethea Stafford.

Ms. Stafford was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. She was a graduate of Bishopville High School and Winthrop College. She taught school in Florence School District One for over 40 years.

She is survived by two nieces, Lucia Randall Spratt of Easley, SC and Sandra Howell of Winston-Salem, NC; two nephews, James Carlton Randall of Steamboat Springs, Colorado and William Elvin Randall of Sylva, NC; four grandnieces; five grandnephews; four great-grandnieces; and ten great grandnephews. She was preceded in death by one sister, Lucia S. Randall and two brothers, Leonard Stafford and Walter E. Stafford, Jr.

Funeral services will be Sunday, December 2, 2001, at 2:30pm, at Cain-Poston Funeral Home, 512 West Second Loop Road. Interment will be private in Mount Hope cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Presbyterian Home of SC, Easley Chapel Fund, Corporate Office, P.O. Box 210037, 2817 Ashland Road, Columbia, SC 29221-0037.

George Brown

HARTSVILLE -- Mr. George Brown of 2441 Trails Edge Road, Lamar died Wednesday Nov. 28, 2001 in Providence Hospital in Columbia after an illness. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2 at Kellybell United Methodist Church with burial in the church cemetery, directed by Hines Funeral Home, Inc. of Hartsville. Family will receive friends at the residence. Professional services are entrusted to the efficiency of Hines Funeral Home, Inc. of Hartsville.

Mr. Brown was born in Darlington County, a son of the late Walter "Botchie" and Winnie Ann Blakney Brown. He was educated in the public schools. His early life was spent on the farm working with his parents and six siblings. He later worked with the International Mineral Corp. of Hartsville where he remained for 27 years until his retirement. He was a member of Kellybell United Methodist Church.

Survivors are his wife, Bennie Shirley Brown of the home; four daughters, Jarutha Brown, Melissa Brown and Barbara Brown, all of Hartsville, and Rachel BA. Brown of Lamar; four sons, George Brown Jr. of Hartsville, Williams A. Brown of Jersey City, N.J., Leon (Lori) Brown of Laurinburg, N.C., and Nathaniel Brown of Lamar; three brothers, Walter (Maxine) Brown of Hartsville, Edward (Valesa) Brown and Bobby (Jackie) Brown, both of Jersey City, N.J.; an aunt, Elizabeth Johnson of Hartsville; an uncle, Jessie (Margaret) Addison of Hartsville; 11 sisters-in-law; seven brothers-in-law; 22 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and special friend, Eugene Brown of Lamar.

Georgia Ann Smith

FLORENCE -- Georgia Ann McKenzie Smith, 58, died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2001, at her residence after an illness.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, in Waters-Powell Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Mount Hope cemetery.

She was born in Florence, a daughter of the late George David and Caroline Elizabeth McLeod McKenzie. She was graduated from McClenaghan High School in Florence and was a homemaker.

She was a member of Central United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Herbert Joseph Smith of the home; two daughters, Angela Elizabeth Ternes of Orlando, Fla., and Amy Louise Smith of Naples, Fla.; two sons, David Clay McLeod Pope and Herbert Joseph "Trey" Smith III, both of Greenville; a sister, Elizabeth McKenzie Keefe; a brother, George David McKenzie Jr.; four granddaughters, Danielle Elizabeth Genovesse, Krista Angelina Genovesse, Tyler Caroline Ternes, and Alexa Anne Renee Ternes; and a grandson, Joseph Graham McLeod Pope.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Doris L. Cooper

MARION -- Mrs. Doris L. Cooper, 75, widow of the late Clyde Cooper, died Saturday, Dec. 1, 2001 at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday in the Chapel of Richardson Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Devotion Gardens.

born in Horry County, Mrs. Cooper was a daughter of the late James and Laura A. Alford. She was a homemaker and attended Open Door Baptist Church.

Survivors are a son, Terry Clyde Cooper of Marion; two daughters, Cheryl L. Baxley of Johsonville and Faye Evans of Lake City; three sisters, Gertie Dix of Myrtle Beach, Leathea Graham of Marion and Geraldine Sellers of Conway; seven grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. She was predeceased by two brothers, T. L. Alford and Donnie Alford.

A. J. Connor

LEXINGTON -- Services for A. J. Connor, 76, of Lexington, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington, conducted by Reverend Lloyd F. Brewer, with burial at Southland Memorial Gardens, with full Masonic Rites.

Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Acacia Masonic Lodge.

Mr. Connor died Saturday, Dec. 1. born in Florence County, he was a son of the late Judson L. and Janie Locklair Connor. He was semi-retired from Rice Music House, a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, and a member of the Acacia Lodge No. 94 A.F.M.

Surviving are his wife, Carolyn Connor; his daughter, Susan Ardis of Manning; his sisters, Lee Merrithew of Charleston, Merlee Knight of Goose Greek, Joyce Reneau of Jacksonville, Betty Senn of Clemson and Jackie Moore of Charleston; his grandchildren, Stacy Ardis, Carole Evans and Wil Ardis; and his great grandson, Taylor Lee Evans.

Mary Ann L. Woolston

FLORENCE -- Mary Ann Lawton Woolston, 83, of Florence died Sunday evening, Dec. 2, 2001 in a Florence hospital after an illness.

Mrs. Woolston was born in Trenton, N.J., a daughter of the late William and Florence Ward Lawton. She was a member of the St. James Episcopal Church in Bristol, Pa. and was retired having worked as sales manager for Sears and Lerner Stores in Neshaminy, Pa.

Surviving are her husband, John Milton "J.M." Woolston Jr. of Florence; two sons, Larry Woolston of Lake Worth, Fla. and John M. Woolston III of Lexington, Va.; one daughter, Judith Ann Jordan of Florence; one brother, William Lawton of Pennington, N.J.; one sister, Josephine Schleiker of Las Vegas, Nev.; five grandchildren; ten great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, 2001 in the Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. Entombment will follow in Florence Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Carolyn Sturgeon Gaines

DARLINGTON -- Carolyn Sturgeon Gaines, 67, of 700 Rio Drive, Darlington died Sunday at her residence after an illness.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2001 at 3:30 p.m. in the Kistler Chapel of Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Parker cemetery on Wire Road. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2001 from 6-8 PM

Mrs. Gaines was born in Florence County, a daughter of the late James Hampton and Mary Alberta Miles Sturgeon. She retired from the Florence County School District. Mrs. Gaines was a member of the Vision Assembly Church. Pursuing a passion for writing, she wrote and produced a play, "Simon, He's Alive, " which was televised on TV13. Mrs. Gaines enjoyed going to yard sales. She was predeceased by a granddaughter; Marsha Gaines.

Survivors include one son, Michael (Cindy) Gaines of Darlington; one brother, Lawrence Sturgeon of Norfolk, Va.; three sisters, Mary Wiggins of Florence, and Ruth Ward and Libby Hurst, both of Sumter; two grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Hospice of the Pee Dee, 555 E. Cheves St., Florence, S.C. 29506.

William 'Bill' Gibson

DARLINGTON -- William "Bill" Gibson, 76, of 215 Pinewood Drive, Darlington died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2001 in a Florence hospital after an illness.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Dec. 6, 2001 at 2 PM in the Kistler Chapel of Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Grove Hill cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2001 from 6-8 p.m.

Mr. Gibson was born in Lancaster County, a son of the late Thomas Hood and Della Mae Thomas Gibson. He was a self-employed painter and attended the Darlington Church of God. Mr. Gibson was a good father and grandfather. He was a veteran of World War II. Mr. Gibson enjoyed Braves baseball and NASCAR racing.

Survivors include his wife, Christine Stegall Gibson of the home; one daughter, Patsy Blanton of the home, two brothers; Ted Gibson of Kershaw and Bobby Gibson of Lancaster; five sisters, Elizabeth Catoe of Kershaw, and Nancy Pressley, Addie Mae Gibson, Lillian Bowers and Shirley Norris, all of Gastonia, N.C. and two grandchildren, William Len Blanton and Christopher Patrick Blanton, both of the home.

Clarissa Washington

FLORENCE -- Funeral service for Miss Clarissa Washington will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, 2001 in Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Doctor Johnson cemetery directed by Backus Funeral Home.

Miss Washington, 47, was the daughter of the late Fossie and Mary Daniels Washington and departed this life on Sunday, Dec. 2.

She was a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church and a WHS graduate.

Surviving are two sons, Elijah Tyra and Dewayne De'Andre Washington; two sisters, Marie Peterson and Cynthia Washington; five brothers, Fossie Jr., Hanniable, Henry, Phillip and Lee Washington, all of Florence.

The family resides at 326 B Magnolia Trace Apartments, Florence.

Louise C. Taylor

FLORENCE -- Louise Coleman Taylor, 93, of the Claussen Community of Florence County, died Tuesday morning, Dec. 4, 2001 in a Florence health care center after an illness.

Mrs. Taylor was born in Florence County, a daughter of the late Woodrow Charles and Alice Caroline Turner Coleman. She was a member of Hopewell Presbyterian Church and the Ladies Sunday School Class. She retired from the Florence County Auditor's Office and had formerly worked in Washington, DC in the office of Congressman Ralph Gasque and Congressman John L. McMillan.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Theron Taylor, who died on Nov. 15, 2001.

Surviving are two sons, T. Coleman (Amy) Taylor and Charles T. "Tim" (Mettie) Taylor, both of Florence; a granddaughter, Jody M. Taylor of Florence; a grandson, Bradley S. Taylor of Florence; two great-grandsons, John T. Taylor of Florence and Austin Taylor of Middletown, Va.; a sister, Arletta K. Campbell of Florence and a special niece, Diane Josey of Florence.

Memorials may be made to Hopewell Presbyterian Church, 5314 Old River Road, Florence, S.C.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 6 in Hopewell Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow in Hopewell cemetery directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home and other times at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Tim Taylor, 5417 Old River Road, Florence, S.C.
