Helen M. Gault
Bookkeeper

SPARTANBURG Helen Miller Gault, 88, of 1083 Maryland Ave., died Monday, April 21, 2003, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Gault was born Aug. 24, 1914 in Harris, N.C., the daughter of the late Andrew Jackson and Matilda Davis Miller and the widow of Thomas Bomar Gault. She was a longtime bookkeeper in Spartanburg having worked for Otasco, Young Office Supply, and the S&H Green Stamp Store.

She was a member of Bethel Methodist Church, and was an active member and served as president of the Hillbrook Neighborhood Association for several years. She is survived by a number of nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 2 to 2:45 p.m. Thursday at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Graveside services will follow at 3 p.m. at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens conducted by the Rev. Lawrence F. Hays and the Rev. Dr. Charles A. Graves. Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice. Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel has charge of arrangements.

William Russell Poole Jr.
World War II veteran

GAFFNEY William Russell Poole Jr., 76, of 103 Hilton Edge Lane, Lake Lure, N.C., widower of Annie Hodges Poole, died Tuesday, April 22, 2003, in Cleveland Regional Medical Center in Shelby. A Union native, Mr. Poole was the son of the late William Russell Poole Sr. and Gladys Flack Poole. He was a retired realtor and former owner and operator of Poole Chevrolet in Gaffney.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served in World War II at the age of 17 where he received the American Area Medal, Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Medal and Philippines Liberation Medal. He was a former Eagle Scout and Scoutmaster. Mr. Poole attended Clemson University and was an IPTAY member for 46 years.

He was a graduate of Wofford College and former member of Buford Street United Methodist Church in Gaffney and was a member of the Chimney Rock Baptist Church where he served as deacon, treasurer, choir member and Sunday School teacher.

Surviving are a son, William Russell (Rusty) Poole III of Gaffney; three daughters, Ann Poole Mullins, Lea Poole Batchler and Cindy Poole McCluney, all of Gaffney; and seven grandchildren, Russell Poole, Charlie Mullins, Kelly Mullins, Lea Anne Batchler, Keith Batchler, Ashley McCluney and Whitney Poole. Mr. Poole was predeceased by a son, Joseph Whitman Poole.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Buford Street United Methodist Church by the Rev. Scott Wachter, the Rev. Larry Sanders and his son, Rusty Poole. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Gaffney. The family is at the home of his daughter, Cindy McDluney, 140 Green Park Dr., Gaffney.

Memorials may be made to Chimney Rock Baptist Church, P.O. Box 157, Lake Lure, N.C. 28746 or to the Buford Street United Methodist Church, 120 E. Buford St., Gaffney, S.C. 29340. Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Harvey Sulton
World War II veteran

ENOREE Harvey P. (June) Sulton, 77, of 75 Clippard St., Enoree, died Sunday, April 20, 2003, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. A native of Newberry County, he was the son of the late H.P. Sr. and Mary Banks Sulton and widower of Kathleen (Kat) Crowe Sulton. Mr. Sulton was a retired textile employee from Inman Mills, Mt. Shoals Plant. He was a member of the Enoree First Freewill Baptist Church and an Army veteran of World War II.

Mr. Sulton is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Sandra and Danny Catoe of Union and Mary Lou Black of Enoree; a brother, Rufus Sulton of Union; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, J. D. Sulton. The family received friends Tuesday evening at Enoree First Freewill Baptist Church, 14151 Highway 221, Enoree.

Funeral services were conducted at 3 p.m. this afternoon at the Enoree First Freewill Baptist Church by the Rev. Billy Vanderford, the Rev. Pete Bove' and the Rev. Lonnie Taylor. Music was provided by Charles Hughes and Jerry Stewart. Burial was in Cedar Shoals Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Mark Black, Mike Phelps, Dan Mims, Roger Mims, Julius Mims and Keith Seay. The family is at the home of his daughter, Mary Black, 65 Clippard St., Enoree. Memorials may be made to Enoree First Freewill Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 129, Enoree, S.C. 29335. Lanford Funeral Home of Woodruff was in charge of arrangements.

Lillie Mae Thompson
Homemaker BUFFALO

Lillie Mae Thompson, 78, of 304 Tight Circle, Buffalo, wife of John Henry Thompson, died Thursday, April 22, 2004 in Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System Hospital. She was born Dec. 5, 1925, in Jonesville, a daughter of the late Ida Littlejohn Williams. Mrs. Thompson was a homemaker and a Jehovah's Witness.

Surviving in addition to her husband are a son, Arthur (Frances) Thompson of Lancaster four daughters, Rosa Lee (Willie) Dixon of Clover, Annie (Arthur) Tucker and Dorothy (Arthur) Stevens, both of Carlisle and Carol T. (Reginald) McBeth of Union; a sister, Elsie Acher of Wenton, W.Va.; 15 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Thompson was predeceased by a son, John E. Thompson. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses by Brother George Pugh and Brother James Rogers. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery. Pallbearers will be family and friends. Visitation will be at the funeral home Sunday from noon until 7 p.m. The family is at the home, 304 Tight Circle, in the Lukesville Community. The Union Community Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Kathy H. Little
Union native

Kathy Horne Little, 49, of 231 Hames Ave., wife of Robert (Doc) Little, died Thursday, April 23, 2003, at 2:45 p.m. in Wallace Thomson Hospital after an extended illness. Mrs. Little was born in Union on March 19, 1954, a daughter of Lewis E. and Mamie Lou Roark Horne of Union. She attended Glory Baptist Church and had attended Union High School.

Surviving in addition to her husband and parents are a daughter, Jessica Levister of Union; a sister, Barbara H. McCall of Union; a brother and sister-in-law, Bobby and Betty Horne of Union; her mother-in-law, Daisy Little of Union and two special nieces, Kacie McCall Petrie and Megan A. McCall.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by the Rev. Chris Carr. Entombment will be in Union Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Active pallbearers will be Albert Roark, Russell F. Roark, David Faulks, George (Pudding) Rumph, Shane Petrie and Tim Cooper.

The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9. The family is at the home of her niece, Kacie McCall Petrie, 408 Tony Road. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Herbert Gossett
Retired from Buffalo Mill

JONESVILLE Herbert Gossett, 92, of 447 New Hope Church Road, Jonesville, widower of Virginia Murph Gossett, died Sunday, April 25, 2004 at 8:58 a.m. in Wallace Thomson Hospital after a sudden illness. Mr. Gossett was born in Jonesville on Aug. 15, 1911, a son of the late Albert Henry Gossett and Anna Sprouse Gossett.

Mr. Gossett was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church where he had served on the administrative board, a member of the Men's Sunday School Class and the Men's Club. He was a member and served as Past Master of Prudence Masonic Lodge #139, and was a member of the Woodmen of the World.

Mr. Gossett was retired from United Merchants & Manufacturing, Buffalo Plant. After his retirement he worked with the S.C. Department of Natural Resources and later served several years as a court bailiff at the Union County Courthouse.

Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Dora G. Blackwell and husband Charles of Jonesville and Bobbie Jean Lawson and husband Harold D. of Union; a son and daughter-in-law, Albert H. Gossett and wife Meredith of Easley; a sister, Mrs. Harrison (Anna Mae) O'Shields of Buffalo; five grandchildren, Beth Hood of Jonesville, Chris Gossett of Johnston, Mark Blackwell of Jonesville, Tiffany Matthews of Cummings, Ga., and Audra Hammond of Greenville; eight great-grandchildren, Matthew Hood, Charles Bryson Hood, Emily Virginia Hood, Hunter Blackwell and Hagan Blackwell, all of Jonesville, Douglas Matthews of Cummings, Ga., Britt Gossett and Reid Gossett, both of Johnston.

Mr. Gossett was predeceased by nine brothers and sisters, Eugene Gossett, Fred Gossett, Charles Gossett, Marion Gossett, Ethel Wade, Bernice Fowler, Albert (Buck) Gossett, Harold Gossett and Henrietta Blackwell. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at New Hope United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Scott Gilmer and the Rev. Ralph Brown. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Robert M. Gossett, Billy Gossett, Mark Blackwell, Chris Gossett, Scott Hood and Joe Matthews. The following are asked to assemble at the church Tuesday at 2:45 p.m. to form the honorary escort: Members of the Men's Sunday School Class, Harold Cookson, Randy Medford, William Jolly, Winston Quinn, Warren Little, Frank Baldwin, Eddie Harris, Russell Roark, William (Red) Ferguson, Harold Youngblood, Sheriff Howard Wells, Jeff Lawson, Dean Turner, William (Bill) Black, Claude Bobo, B.F. Ledford, James Haile, Greer Blackwell, John M. Jenkins, Jerry Lawson, Donald W. Cohen, Grady Blackwell, Daniel Groves, Eddie Mayo and Tommy Benfield.

Members of Prudence Masonic Lodge #139 are asked to sit in a group. The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 until 8:30 and will be placed in church at 2 p.m. Tuesday to await the hour of service. The family is at the home, 447 New Hope Church Road, Jonesville.

Larry M. Moss
World War II veteran

JONESVILLE Larry McArthur (Frog) Moss, 90, of 518 Forest St., Jonesville, died at his residence Friday, April 23, 2004, at 5:25 p.m. after a brief illness. Mr. Moss was born in Cherokee County on Sept. 1, 1913, a son of the late Arthur B. Moss Sr. and Belle Crocker Moss. He was a member of Jonesville Baptist Church and the Mt. Joy Masonic Lodge.

Mr. Moss was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Army Medical Corps in the European Theater. He was a graduate of Jonesville High School and was a retired security guard at Milliken & Co., Cedar Hill Plant. Surviving are a brother and sister-in-law, A.B. and Irene Moss of Jonesville; a sister, Frances Hicklin of Orangeburg and a number of special nieces and nephews.

Mr. Moss was predeceased by a brother and three sisters, Bobby Gene Moss, Mae Holt, Sara Rector and Dorothy Spencer. Graveside services with military rites were held at Gilead Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by the Rev. Ralph Brown at 3 p.m. Monday, April 26, 2004.

Active pallbearers were: Shane Silvey, Arthur Moss III, Tim Henderson, Tim Fowler, Lynn Blackwell, Mark Adams, Steve Beheler and Edwin Eaves. The family was at the home of his brother and sister-in-law, A.B. and Irene Moss, 600 Forest St., Jonesville, and received friends at Holcombe's Jonesville Chapel Sunday night.

Memorials may be made to Interim Hospice, 775 Spartan Blvd., Suite 101, Spartanburg, S.C. 29301 or to the Jonesville Baptist Church Vision Fund, 301 Church St., Jonesville, S.C. 29353. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.
