DANIEL ALFORD -- Daniel "Dan" Alford, 69, died Aug. 27, 2002, in Kingstree. Funeral services, conducted by Elder Linwood Cooper, were held Thurs., Aug. 29, 2002, in the chapel of Pressley Funeral Home. A funeral was held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Tues., Sept. 3, 2002. Burial followed at West Minister Cemetery in Balacynwyd, Pennsylvania. Mr. Alford was born in Darlington on March 21, 1933, a son of the late Abe and Elizabeth Alford. Survivors are: his wife, Lou Ann Alford of Philadelphia, Pennsyl-vania; two sons, Daniel Alford, Jr., of Pottstown, Pennsylvania; and Derrick Alford of Kokomo, Indiana; one daughter, Drell Alexander of Glenside, Pennsylvania; one brother, Arthur Alford of Darlington; two sisters, Willie L. Anderson of Kingstree; and Hazel Alford of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and six grandchildren.

EDNA McGEE -- Funeral services for Mrs. Edna Scott McGee, conducted by Rev. S. A. Green, were held Sat., Sept. 14, 2002, at Mt. Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church in Salters. Burial, directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home, followed at Salters Cemetery. Mrs. McGee, 94, died Sun., Sept. 8, 2002, at the Williamsburg Regional Hospital. She was born Aug. 17, 1908, in Salters, a daughter of the late Clarence and Judy Scott. She attended the public schools of Williamsburg County. Mrs. McGee was a member of Mt. Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher and served as past president of the Missionary Society, choir and Usher Board. She was married to the late Deacon Lawrence McGee. Survivors are: two sons, James A. Scott of Philadelphia, Pennsyl-vania; and Deacon James Giles of Queens, New York; one daughter, Jean Scott of the home; three grandchildren, she reared as her own, Kenny W. Scott of Charlotte, North Carolina; Bernett Scott of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and Christine Scott of the home; three great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

LUTHER DAWKINS, JR. -- Funeral services for Luther Dawkins, Jr., were held Sat., Sept. 14, 2002, at Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church in Salters. Burial, directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home, followed at Rocky Ford Cemetery in Salters. Mr. Dawkins, 65, a retired railroad worker for Seaboard Coast-line, died Sun., Sept. 8, 2002, at the Palmetto-Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia. He was born Feb. 26, 1937, to the late Luther Dawkins, Sr., and Rose Lee Oglsby Dawkins in Gaffney attended the public schools of Cherokee County. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Anna Marie Dawkins of the home; one daughter, Charlene Nelson of Kingstree; two sons, Luther Dawkins, III, of Charleston and Johnny Dawkins of the home; three sister, Mrs. Mable Warren of New Jersey; Mrs. Shirley Mae Davis and Betty Dawkins, both of Shelby, North Carolina; and his mother-in-law, Mrs. Essie Burgess of Salters.

ALICE BROWN -- Funeral services for Alice Jean Brown, conducted by the Rev. Samuel B. Cooper, were held Fri., Sept. 6, 2002, at Jerusalem United Methodist Church. Burial, directed by Henryhand Funeral Home, followed at the churchyard cemetery. Miss Brown died Sun., Sept. 1, 2002. She was born Sept. 9, 1963, a daughter of Mrs. Onetha Brown and the late Curtis Lindsey Brown, in Williamsburg County. She attended the public schools of Williamsburg County and the Williamsburg County Disability and Special Needs Program. She attended Jerusalem United Methodist Church in Salters. Survivors, in addition to her mother of Salters, are: five sisters, Linda Thomas, Dorothy McCray and Jacklyn Brown, all of Salters; Ruth Rutledge of Andrews; and Claudia B. Brown of Rochester, New York; six brothers, Curtis Brown and Tyrone Brown, both of Rochester, New York; Christopher Brown of Florence; Allen Brown of Heidelberg, Germany; and Adrian Brown of Lane; and her grandmother, Elizabeth Barr of Salters.

DORIS WHITE -- Funeral services for Mrs. Doris Jean White, conducted by Rev. Samuel B. Cooper, were held Sat., Sept. 7, 2002, at St. Luke United Methodist Church. Burial, directed by Henryhand Funeral Home, followed at St. Mary United Metho-dist Churchyard Cemetery in Salters. Mrs. White died Sept. 4, 2002. She was born June 20, 1949, a daughter of Jannie Mae Tisdale and the late Clyde Matthew Tisdale. She received her education from the public schools of Williamsburg County and she also received additional training from Connecticut Community College. She was then employed by the mayoršs office in Stanford, Connecticut for several years. She relocated to South Carolina and was then employed by Holiday Sands in Myrtle Beach. She was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church in Salters. Survivors, in addition to her mother of Salters, are; one daughter, Kimberley N. Tisdale of Greenville; her husband, Christopher C. White of Kingstree; one step-daughter, Gwendolyn Cooper of Salters; one step-son, Levern Cooper of Springfield, Maryland; two brothers, Joe Tisdale of Salters; and George E. Tisdale of Kill Devil Hill, North Carolina; three sisters, Essie Smith of New York, New York; Claudette Chandler of Kingstree; and Barbara J. Tisdale of Columbia; her father-in-law, Matthew Green of Lane; two nieces who cared for her during her illness, Vernander Fulton of Andrews; and Robin Tisdale of Salters.

SARAH LEE THOMPSON -- Sarah Lee Parker Thompson, 80, widow of Charles Laverne Thompson, Sr., died Wed., Sept. 18, 2002, in a Charleston hospital. Funeral services were held Sat., September 21, 2002, at Williams-burg Funeral Home Chapel. Burial, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home, followed at Williamsburg Cemetery. Mrs. Thompson was born in Horry County, a daughter of the late Thaddeus B. and Florrie Edge Parker. She attended Horry County schools and was a retired bookkeeper. Mrs. Thompson was a member of the First Baptist Church of Kingstree. Survivors are: two daughters, Helen T. McGill of James Island; Kathy T. Dorrell of Kingstree; one son, Charles L. Thompson of Woodbridge, Virginia; one sister, Eva Dale P. Morton of Conway; two brothers, Daniel Parker and Jack Parker, both of Conway; and nine grandchildren. Memorials may be made to MUSC for Alzheimer's and Cancer research.

VERNELL PETERSON, SR. -- Funeral services for Vernell "Pete" Louis Peterson, Sr., conducted by Evangelist Willie Mae McFadden, were held Saturday, September 21, 2002, at the William N. Redmond Memorial Chapel. Burial, directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home, followed at St. Michael United Methodist church. Mr. Peterson, 64, died Sat., Sept. 14, 2002, at the Williamsburg Regional Hospital in Kingstree. He was born May 10, 1938, in Williamsburg County, a son of Louis V. and Lenora Peterson Rice. He received his formal education in the public schools of Williamsburg County. He was a member of St. Michael United Methodist Church. He was employed for several years as a construction worker. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Bridgett R. Peterson of Arcadia, Florida; three daughters, Kathy V. Peterson and Mildred Peterson, both of Arcadia, Florida; and Marian D. Peterson of Sarasota, Florida; one son, Vernell L. Peterson, Jr., of Sarasota, Florida; three step-children, whom he reared as his own, Kenny, Tyrone and Quincy, all of Arcadia, Florida; and three grandchildren.

WILLIAM BROWN -- Funeral services for William Douglas Brown, conducted by Dr. Herman Gibson, were held Tues., Sept. 24, 2002, at New Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Kingstree. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, followed at the churchyard cemetery. Mr. Brown, 58, died Fri., Sept. 20, 2002, at his residence in Kingstree. He was a son of the late Napoleon Brown, Sr., and Catherine Lucille Tisdale Brown. He attended the public schools of Williamsburg County. He was formerly employed by Chargeurs Wool Company as a forklift driver in Jamestown. He was a member of New Mt. Olive Baptist Church. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Everlena Major of Lake City; six brothers, Joe Louis Brown, Deacon Napoleon Brown, Deacon Willie T. Brown, Samuel Brown, John D. Brown, and Larry Brown, all of Kingstree; and two sisters, Mrs. Christine Calvin and Mrs. Shirley Ann Brown, both of Kingstree.

HELEN BUDDIN -- Funeral services for Mrs. Helen Smith Buddin, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Robert Jackson, were held Tues., Sept. 24, 2002, at the graveside in Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church Cemetery in Kingstree. Burial was directed by Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel. Mrs. Buddin, 85, of Columbia, died Sat., Sept. 21, 2002. Born in Columbia, she was the daughter of the late John David Smith and Susie Brown Smith Hipp. She was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church and the Convenanters Sunday School class. She was a graduate of Spartanburg Methodist College and a retired employee of Richland School District One. She was a widow of Cecil Edward Buddin. Survivors are: two sons, C. Edward Buddin, Jr., of Columbia; and John T. Buddin of Georgetown. Pallbearers were Jake Buddin, Chuck Buddin, David Smith, Glenn Carter, Mitchell Gardner and Bonham Gardner. Memorials may be made to Covenant Presbyterian Church, 3100 Covenant Road, Columbia, South Carolina 29204 or a charity of onešs choice.

FLORIE HUGE -- Funeral services for Mrs. Florie McBride Huge, conducted by the Rev. Joseph Cobin and the Rev. Nathan Morris, were held Sat., Sept. 21, 2002, at St. Mary A.M.E. Church in Salters. Burial, directed by Henryhand Funeral Home, followed at the churchyard cemetery. Mrs. Huge widow of Jimmy Huge, died Sun., Sept. 15, 2002. She was born on November 11, 1912, in Williamsburg County, a daughter of the late Clarence McBride and Ella Smith McBride. She was educated in the public schools of Williamsburg County. She was a member of St. Mary A.M.E. Church. Survivors are: one son, Willie Huge of Bronx, New York; two sisters, Mrs. Esther Beaufort of Salters; and Mrs. Iola Miller of Charleston; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
