Mary Evelyn Horne Wilson
Dated: July 16 2000
Wilson, Mary Evelyn Horne, age 83, born August 13, 1916, died July 16, 2000, at St. Mary's Hospital. Daughter of William Henry Horne and Flora Mae Smith Horne. Married Buford Edgar Wilson on April 16, 1933. They were blessed with six children; 3 boys and 3 girls, Kyle, Carolyn, Bobbie, Kenny, Sharon, and Terry. From the marriages of her children she welcomed into her life 21 grandchildren. From the marriages of her grandchildren she was "abundantly" blessed with 58 great-grandchildren, all of whom either called her Mamaw Wilson or GreatMamaw Wilson, except for one little one, Miranda, who called her "GrandMommy." She worked in retail sales during her working years. She was a charter member of Buffat Heights Baptist Church, being saved and baptized when she was 17 years old and expecting her first child, Kyle. At 83, she continued to worship each Sunday with this same body of believers until her death. She was a member of the Ruth Sunday School Class. Preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Cecil and Earl Horne, her sisters, Cleo Horne, Velda Newman, and Nellie Davis, her husband, Buford Edgar Wilson, her son, Kenneth Eugene Wilson, and her son-in-law, Bill Duckett. Survived by her children: Kyle and Beverly Wilson, Knoxville; Dr. Charles and Carolyn Wilson Mainous, Columbus, OH; Bobbie Duckett, Knoxville; Al and Sharon Wilson Blancas, Springhill, FL; Terry and Brooke Wilson, Maryville, TN.; Judy Wilson Hurt, widow of Kenneth E. Wilson. 21 grandchildren and 58 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, July 19, 2000 at Buffat Heights Baptist Church, 2101 Ault Road, Knoxville, Tn. with Dr. Dana Mathewson and Dr. Charles Mainous officiating. Interment at Sherwood Memorial Gardens, Alcoa Hwy., Knoxville, TN. Family will receive friends Tuesday July 18, 6:00-9:00 P.M. at Lynnhurst Greenwood Chapel, 2300 W. Adair Dr. Pallbearers will be grandsons. "She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children arise and call her blessed. Give her the reward she has earned and let her works bring her praise at the City Gate." Proverbs 31:27, 28, 31. Mother, we will always love you and hold you in our hearts. Judy Marie Covington

Covington, Judy Marie, age 50 passed away at 9:15 am Saturday July 15, 2000 at her home after a long fight against cancer. Judy was a member of Sunset Heights Missionary Baptist Church. Preceded in death by father, Hugh Hensley; sister, Diane Hensley; brother, Troy Hensley; Mother -in-law, Cordie Lee Covington and a grandson, Isaac Allen Roberts. Husband, to whom she was devoted for twenty years: Rev. Burl Covington Funeral services 2:00 PM Tuesday at Berry Chapel with Rev.Lawrence Ford and Rev. Bill LaRoy officiating. Interment will follow in East View Memorial Gardens on Andrew Johnson Highway The family will receive friends 7 to 9 PM Monday at Berry Funeral Home, Chapman Highway.

Lucy Juanita 'Tittle' Cunningham

Cunningham, Lucy Juanita "Tittle", age 64 of Knoxville, went to be with God Saturday, July 15, 2000. She was of the Holiness Faith. Preceded in death by brother, Ed Rudd. Husband of 46 years: Robert Lee Cunningham Funeral services 8:00 PM Monday at Berry Chapel. Interment 11:00 AM Tuesday at Sherwood Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers, Ron Rudd, Neil Rudd, Wayne Reynolds, Gary Rudd, Ronnie Rudd and Erick Cunningham. Honorary pallbearers, Robert Crawford, Herman Rudd and Elmer Dennis. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 PM Monday, at Berry Funeral Home, Chapman Highway.

Emma McAfee Turner

Turner, Emma McAfee, age 67, died Saturday, July 15, 2000 at St. Mary's Residential Hospice. Emma was a principal in Turner Amusement Company, a family carnival which operated out of Cincinnati, Ohio and Valdosta, Georgia for over thirty years. Daughter: Debbie Merriman Family visitation will be at Berry Funeral Home on Chapman Highway 6 to 9 PM Monday. Graveside services at Mount Olive Cemetery at 11:00 AM Tuesday. The family gratefully thanks Dr. John Vannoy and the staff of St. Mary's Residential Hospice for their dedicated, compassionate care during Emma's final days on earth. We pray for God's abundant blessings upon them in their important work. Arrangements by Berry Funeral Home, Chapman Highway.

Ricky Allen Flanagan

Flanagan, Ricky Allen, age 38 of South Knoxville, went to be with the Lord unexpectedly due to a fatal accident on July 14, 2000. He was a loving and devoted father and husband. He was a graduate of South-Young High School, class of 1980. He attended U.T. and was an employee of Comcast Cable Company for 19 years. Rick was an active member of Colonial Heights United Methodist Church and shared his faith through his gift of song as a choir member, quartet member and soloist. He served his church as a member of various committees over the years and worked faithfully in the youth program. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and church. Preceded in death by daughter, Mikayla Ann Flanagan. Wife: Lizabeth Thornton Flanagan The family will receive friends 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Sunday, at Colonial Heights United Methodist Church. Following will be a worship celebration service at 7:00 p.m. Rev. Robert Countiss officiating. Family and friends will meet Monday, July 17th at Colonial Heights Church and will proceed at 10:30 a.m. in procession to Sherwood Memorial Gardens for an 11:00 a.m. graveside service. Pallbearers: Dee and Shane Flanagan, Scott Bacon, Jim and Michael Thornton, Alan McInturff. Honorary Pallbearers: Jason Hill, Chuck Wheeler, Don Reed, Craig Houser and Jay Zartman. Memorials may be made to Colonial Heights United Methodist Church, 6321 Chapman Hwy., Knoxville, TN 37920. We are all thankful and feel blessed that we shared Rick's Life. Lane, Mollie J., age 73, of Knoxville, passed away July 11, 2000 at Baptist Hospital. She was a member of Marbledale Baptist Church. Preceded in death by husband, Sam E. Lane. James Oren Norvell

Norvell, James Oren, age 80, died Saturday, July 8, 2000 at Baptist Hospital. He was a retired pharmacist who briefly served the Oak Ridge and Madisonville areas before moving to Knoxville where he worked for and retired from Revco Drug Stores. He was a member of Vestal Methodist Church. He proudly served the country he loved in the US Army during World War II, after which he returned to Knoxville, attended UT Knoxville, and graduated from the School of Pharmacy at UT Medical School in Memphis. He was married for 48 years to Beverly Rose Emert Norvell, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Ella Tomlinson Norvell and Henry Oren Norvell; brothers E. Eugene Norvell, and Howard V. Norvell. Sons and daughters-in-law: James H. Norvell and Ann Kennedy; Gary F. Norvell and Teresa J. Norvell, all of Knoxville; David E. Norvell and Chris S. Norvell, of Loganville, GA Graveside Service 11:30 AM Tuesday, Woodlawn Cemetery, Rev. Stewart White and Rev. Kirk Werner officiating. Military Honors will be performed by East Tennessee Veterans Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to The Gideons International PO Box 1452 Knoxville, TN 37901. Family and friends will meet Tuesday at Beech Springs Cemetery for a 10 A.M. interment service. Pallbearers: David and Ronny Thompson, Roland and Jimmy Cowden, John Hawkins and David Barnes. Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Monday, prior to the service in the chapel of Berry Funeral Home.
