Gregory Ray Rothwell
Died: 03/13/1999

Gregory Ray Rothwell, of Dayton, died Saturday, March 13, 1999, in a local hospital. He was 38.

Mr. Rothwell was preceded in death by two brothers, Terry Rothwell and Jimmy Reel; paternal grandparents, Sid and Alice Rothwell; maternal grandparents, Arthur and Mamie Brock.

Survivors include two daughters, Rachel and Allison Rothwell, both of Dayton; father, S.D. and stepmother Ethyle Rothwell of Soddy-Daisy; mother, Velma Rothwell of Soddy- Daisy; two sisters, Judy McMillan of Dayton and Lisa Parker of Chattanooga; three brothers, Larry and Randy Rothwell, both of Dayton, and Mark Parker of Chattanooga; two nephews, three nieces and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Funeral services were conducted Monday March 15, 1999, in the chapel of Coulter-Garrison Funeral Home with Minister Don Fox officiating. Burial took place in Summer City Cemetery. Coulter-Garrison Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Monika Denise Meadows
Died: 03/16/1999

Monika Denise Meadows, of Dayton, died Tuesday, March 16, 1999, in a local hospital. She was 33.

Funeral services will be conducted by Martin Funeral Home of La Follett, Tenn. Coulter-Garrison Funeral Home in Dayton is in charge of local arrangements.

Edna Monroe
Died: 03/07/1999

Edna Monroe, formerly of Chattanooga, died Sunday, March 7, 1999, in Daytona Beach, Fla. She was 78.

Mrs. Monroe was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Jensen; parents, Gerome E. and Alice Dobbs Monroe; and three brothers, Edward, Dunward and Harold Monroe.

Survivors include her daughter, Barbara Jensen, and son, Bill Jensen, both of Daytona Beach, Fla.; two brothers, Robert D. Monroe of Hixson and Warren Monroe of Ormond Beach, Fla.; sister, Pauline Monroe Colliflower of Deltona, Fla.; and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday, March 22, 1999, in Volusia Memorial Funeral Home in Ormond Beach, Fla. Coulter-Garrison Funeral Home in Dayton is in charge of local arrangements.

Johnny Ray Hickman
Died: 03/15/1999

Johnny Ray Hickman, of Dayton, died Monday, March 15, 1999, in a local hospital. He was 68.

A lifelong resident of Rhea County, Mr. Hickman was of the Methodist Faith and a retired cattle farmer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raleigh and May Hickman; sister, Ellen Hickman; and brother, James Hickman.

Survivors include his wife, Louise “Tweed” Hickman of Dayton; two sons, Ray and Jeff Hickman of Dayton; daughter, Vickye Thomas of Nashville; sister, Betty Smith of Dayton; four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted Thursday, March 18, in the chapel of Coulter-Garrison Funeral Home with Rev. Clyde Fitzgerald, Rev. John Neece and Brother Hank Human officiating. Burial was in Pleasant View Cemetery. Coulter-Garrison Funeral Home in Dayton was in charge of the arrangements.

Clayburn George Renner
Died: 03/20/1999

Clayburn George Renner, of Santa Fe, Texas, died Saturday, March 20, 1999, in Nassau Bay, Texas. He was 73.

Mr. Renner was a retired veteran from the U.S. Air Force. He was born in Greenville, Tenn.

Survivors include his loving wife of over 53 years, Evelyn Renner of Santa Fe; daughter, Sharon Kay Beckmann of Santa Fe, Texas; son, George Renner and wife Lisa of Santa Fe, Texas; brother, Clinton E. Renner and wife Viola of Dayton; grandchildren, Christopher V. Beckmann and wife Ginger Denee and Deven Vada Renner; nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services were conducted Monday, March 22, at Forest Park East Funeral Home. Forest Park East Funeral Home in Webster, Texas was in charge of the arrangments.

Vivian B. Senseman
Died: 03/17/1999

Vivian B. Senseman, of Dayton, died Wednesday, March 17, 1999, at The Pinnacle Assisted Living Center in Dayton. She was 95.

Mrs. Senseman was a retired high school French language and Home Economics teacher and taught for many years in Fairborn and Xenia, Ohio schools. She graduated from Wittenberg University in 1926. Mrs. Senseman had lived in Dayton for six years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Maynard Senseman, and parents, Katie and George Beyl.

Survivors include two sons, Fred Senseman and his wife, Ann Hanna-Senseman of Dayton and Charles M. Senseman of Detroit, Mich. and grandson, Steven M. Senseman of Chicago.

Funeral services were conducted Monday, March 22, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Fairborn, Ohio. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 104 E. Main St., Fairborn, Ohio 45324. Coulter-Garrison Funeral Home in Dayton is in charge of local arrangements.

Mildred B. Trentham
Died: 03/21/1999

Mildred B. Trentham, of Hixson, died Sunday, March 21, 1999, in a local health care facility. She was 82.

Mrs. Trentham was a member of First Baptist Church of Hixson and a Sunday school teacher for many years. Born in Rhea County, she was a homemaker by trade. Mrs. Trentham was preceded in death by her son, Larry Trentham; daughter, Glenna Sue Trentham; two sisters, Mintie Sneed and Alice King Lombard; three brothers, Clint, Amon and Livingston Burdett.

Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Edabee Trentham of Hixson; daughter, Avanell Best of Pensacola, Fla.; three sons, Eddie Trentham of Huntsville, Ala., Troy Trentham of Atlanta and Gerald Trentham of Hixson; two brothers, Martin E. Burdett of Harrison, Ohio, and Rev. T.C. Burdett of Evensville; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, March 23, in the chapel of Williamson and Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Joel Wood officiating. Burial was in Smyrna Cemetery in Dayton. Williamson and Sons Funeral Home in Soddy-Daisy was in charge of the arrangements.

Thomas Ray Roland
Died: 03/24/1999

Thomas Ray Roland, of Dayton, died Wednesday, March 24, 1999, at his home. He was 37.

A lifetime resident of Rhea County, he was an employee of Polyloom Corp. in Dayton. Mr. Roland was of the Baptist Faith. He was preceded in death by his father, James N. Roland and grandparents, Edgar and Alma Reed.

Survivors include his mother, Leah Reed Dodson of Spring City; stepfather, Earl Dodson of Spring City; son, Brandon Roland of Dayton; daughter, Bridget Roland of McMinnville; two brothers, Mike and Jimmy Roland of Grandview; sister, Susan Smith of Douglasville, Ga.; stepbrother, Lynn Dodson of Dayton; one niece and one nephew; and special friends, Joyce Rothwell and family of Dayton.

Funeral services were conducted Friday, March 26, in the chapel of Vaughn Funeral Home with Dr. Wayne Brooks officiating. Burial was in Reed Cemetery in Grandview. Vaughn Funeral Home in Spring City was in charge of the arrangements.

John C. Loden
Died: 03/25/1999

John C. (J.C.) Loden, of Spring City, died Thursday, March 25, 1999, at Memorial Health Care System in Chattanooga. He was 69.

Born in Ozone, Tenn., he was the son of the late Roy and Sarepta James Loden. He moved back to Rhea County in 1989 from Murfreesboro. Mr. Loden was of the Baptist faith. He retired as Master Sergeant in the U.S. Army after serving for 18 years. He served during the Korean conflict.

Survivors include his wife, Willie Lea Gideon Loden of Spring City; two sons, Tim Loden of Sacramento, Calif., and Michael Loden of Birmingham, Ala.; two daughters, Deborah Lee Jaegge of Chattanooga and Pam Miller of Birmingham; three sisters, Lottie James of Grandview, Ava Hritz of Crossville and Iva Teuber of Cambridge, Wis.; eight grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday, March 28, in the chapel of Vaughn Funeral Home with Rev. Rick Smith and Rev. Kenneth Goins officiating. Burial was in Spring City Cemetery with full military honors. Vaughn Funeral Home in Spring City was in charge of the arrangements.

Bertha C. Purser
Died: 03/26/1999

Bertha C. Purser, of Dayton, died Friday, March 26, 1999. She was 86.

Mrs. Purser was a member of New Bethel United Methodist Church and was a lifelong Dayton resident. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert (Hub) Purser; parents, Oscar and Alice Bell Kennedy Colbaugh; and two sisters, Anna Mae Barley and Katie Brady.

Survivors include two sons, Ken and Joe Purser, both of Dayton; four sisters, Pauline Housley, Edith Matthew and Gladys Purser, all of Dayton, and Robbie Norwood of Athens; four grandchildren, Jeff and Lebron Purser, both of Dayton, Pam Keylon of Paducah, Ky. and Dana Gilbert of Chattanooga; four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted Monday, March 29, in the chapel of Coulter-Garrison Funeral Home with Dr. Danny Ruehling officiating. Burial was in Spence Cemetery in Dayton. Coulter-Garrison Funeral Home in Dayton was in charge of the arrangements.

Nellie Margaret Sullivan
Died: 03/25/1999

Nellie Margaret Sullivan, of New Harmony Community in Bledsoe County, died Thursday, March 25, 1999, in a local nursing home. She was 103.

Mrs. Sullivan was a member of the Methodist Faith and a former Sunday School teacher at New Harmony Baptist Church for many years. She was a lifelong resident of New Harmony. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Henry Sullivan, and two sons, John and Jesse Sullivan.

Survivors include two sons, James T. Sullivan of New Harmony and Fred Sullivan of Palm Beach, Fla.; three daughters, Margaret Ritchey and Mary Revis, both of New Harmony, and Martha Musgrave of Soddy-Daisy; and 16 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and a few great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday, March 28, at New Harmony Baptist Church with Rev. Tommy Wilkey officiating. Burial was in Rigsby Cemetery. Coulter-Garrison Funeral Home in Dayton was in charge of the arrangements.

Franklin E. Glass
Died: 02/24/1999

Franklin Elmore Glass Sr., of Dayton, died Wednesday, Feb. 24, 1999, in a Chattanooga hospital. He was 87. Mr. Glass was a Dayton resident for over 50 years and was the publisher and owner of The Dayton Herald for 40 years. A private, graveside service was held for Mr. Glass Saturday, April 10, at Oakwood Cemetery in Montgomery, Ala. The family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Rhea County Nursing Home, c/o Kate Swafford, administrator, 7900 Rhea County Highway, Dayton, TN 37321. Coulter-Garrison Funeral Home in Dayton was in charge of the arrangements.
