Russell Arthell Stader Sr.
Died: 06/06/1999
Russell Arthell Strader Sr., of Spring City, died Sunday, June 6, 1999, at the University of Birmingham in Alabama. He was 64.
Born April 19, 1935, Mr. Strader was the son of Vines and Linnie Strader of High Point, Tenn. He was preceded in death by his mother, Linnie Strader, and sister, Shirley Pritchett.
Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Lou Karen Strader of Spring City; daughters, Penny Corbitt and Tena Rath, both of Spring City; sons, Russell Arthell Strader Jr. of Mountain City, Tenn., and Mike and Randy Strader, both of Spring City; father, Vines Strader, of Dayton; brother, Huey Strader of Sheridan, Wyo.; sisters, Betty Smith of Graysville, and Louise Revis of Dayton.
Private funeral services will be conducted for the immediate family at the home of Mr. Strader. John’s Rideouts Funeral Home in Birmingham, Ala., was in charge of the arrangements.
Willard James Miller
Died: 06/05/1999
Willard (Red) James Miller, of Graysville, died Saturday, June 5, 1999, at his nephew’s home in Graysville. He was 76.
Born August 19, 1923, in Bledsoe County, Mr. Miller lived in Graysville for the past 43 years of his life. He retired as a machinist from Suburban Manufacturing Company in Dayton. He played softball with the Graysville Indians and served in the U.S. Army in World War II, European Theatre. He was of the Methodist faith.
Mr. Miller was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver and Elizabeth Johnson Miller; sisters, Leonna Morris, Dorothy Lee Henderson, Margie Bryant and Betty Lou Carruther; and his brother, Dallas Miller.
Survivors include his wife, Alma Naomi Miller of Graysville; sisters, Pauline Thomas of Chattanooga, Edith Moore of Hixson, and MayBell Marler of Graysville; his brother, Foster Miller of Florida; and his nephew and his wife, Rickie and Linda Everett.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, June 7, at Mr. Miller’s nephew’s home in Graysville with Rev. Clyde Fitzgerald officiating. Burial was in Pleasant View Cemetery in Graysville. Vanderwall Funeral Home in Dayton was in charge of the arrangements.
Myna Christine Hoyt
Died: 06/05/1999
Myna Christine Hoyt, of Dayton, died Saturday, June 5, 1999, at Soddy-Daisy Health Center. She was 82.
Born March 31, 1917, in Coaldale, Alberta, Mrs. Hoyt lived in Indiana, New York, France, Haiti, California, Ohio and Dayton several times, most recently since 1988.
Mrs. Hoyt received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Bryan College and was a high school English teacher. She was involved in several missionary societies and taught good news clubs. She was also a member of Grace Bible Church in Dayton. Mrs. Hoyt was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin and Ocy Shank Morrill.
Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Garner E. Hoyt of Dayton; son, Ronald E. Hoyt of Chelsea, Quebec; sisters, Ethel Simmons of Worthington, Ohio, and Eunice Baker of Winona Lake, Ind.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, June 9, in the chapel of Vanderwall Funeral Home with Rev. Doug Russell and Rev. Kermit Zopfi officiating. Burial was in Rhea Memory Gardens in Dayton. Charity donations may be made to the Women’s Care Center in Dayton. Vanderwall Funeral Home in Dayton was in charge of the arrangements.
Gertie Irene Gadd
Died: 06/07/1999
Gertie Irene Gadd, of Evensville, died Monday, June 7, 1999, at Rhea Medical Center. She was 68.
Mrs. Gadd was preceded in death by her parents, Cleo and Isabella Odom Jenkins, and her son, Billy Ray Gadd.
Survivors include her son, William R. Gadd, Jr. of Decatur; daughters, Patricia Ann Brockley of Norfolk, Va., Barbara Langston and Phyliss Gadd, both of Evensville, and Deborah Reed of Cleveland; brothers, Earl Jenkins of Dayton and Bobby Jenkins of Soddy-Daisy; sisters, Louise Wright of Soddy-Daisy, and Jo Ann Smith of Dayton; eight grandchildren, one great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, June 9, in the chapel of Coulter-Garrison Funeral Home with Rev. John Allen Harwood officiating. Burial was in Buttram Cemetery. Coulter-Garrison Funeral Home in Dayton was in charge of the arrangements.
Lula Bell Ennis
Died: 06/04/1999
Lula Bell Ennis, of Warren, Mich., died Friday, June 4, 1999, in Mt. Clemens General Hospital. She was 91.
Born December 28, 1907, in Disco, Mich., Mrs. Ennis lived in Michigan until 1971. She then moved to Spring City. In the fall of 1998, she returned to Michigan to be near her son, Dr. Lee A. Morgan.
Mrs. Ennis was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Ennis on January 28, 1971; and daughters, Ann Kimbel and Margaret (Peggy) Strause.
Mrs. Ennis was an organist for First Presbyterian Church in Spring City, a pianist for Spring City United Methodist Church from 1971 to 1998. She was also a Gray Lady Volunteer at Rhea Medical Center from 1975 to 1980 and an active delegate in the Republican party.
Survivors include her son, Dr. Lee A. Morgan; 12 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

Clara Sue Brown

Clara Sue Brown, of Dayton, died Saturday, June 5, 1999, at Rhea County Nursing Home. She was 70.
Born September 11, 1928, in McMinn County, she lived in Dayton many years, for 20 years in Gallatin, Tenn., and then returned to Rhea County in 1990.
Mrs. Brown was a homemaker by trade and was employed by General Electric for 13 years. She was of the Church of God faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Brown, and her parents, William B. and Mary Annie Bryan McCormick.
Survivors include her sons, David and Dennis Wright, both of Hixson; brothers, Kenneth McCormick of Cleveland, and Malcolm McCormick of Florida; sister, Leona Frazier of Cleveland; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, June 7, in the chapel of Vanderwall Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Farr officiating. Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery in Cleveland. Vanderwall Funeral Home in Dayton was in charge of the arrangements.
Betty Jo Kincannon Sanders

Betty Jo Kincannon Sanders, of Dayton, died Friday, June 11, 1999, at her home. She was 69.
Mrs. Sanders was of the Baptist faith and was preceded in death by her sister, Shirley Scarbrough.
Survivors include her husband, Dallas Sanders of Dayton; daughter, Carol Sanders of Atlanta; sisters, Maxine Good, Barbara Walker and Linda Kincannon, all of Dayton, and Ann Saladin of Tampa, Fla.; brother, Hooper (Buddy) Kincannon; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, June 14, in the chapel of Coulter-Garrison Funeral Home with Rev. J.B. Morris officiating. Burial was in Rhea Memory Gardens in Dayton. Coulter-Garrison Funeral Home in Dayton was in charge of the arrangements.
Rick L. Clinton

Rick L. (Spacey) Clinton, of Spring City, died Wednesday, June 16, 1999, at his home. He was 43.
Born in Detroit, Mich., Mr. Clinton was the son of the late William M. and Vesta (Lena) Varesi Clinton. He moved to Rhea County in 1985 from Chattanooga.
Mr. Clinton was a graduate of Lookout Valley High School and a member of Plumbers and Steam Fitters Local #43 in Chattanooga. He was of the Methodist faith.
Survivors include his son, Weston Smith of Soddy-Daisy; sisters, Martha Ann Hill of Dayton, Billie Marie Crawford of Ft. Ogelthorpe, Ga., Shelia Brady Keylon of Spring City, Shirley J. Fye of Murfreesboro, and Cherie Higgins of Soddy-Daisy; brothers, Bill Clinton of Spring City, Tim Clinton of Rossville, Ga., and Don Clinton of Greenville, Ala.; one grandson and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Friday, June 18, in the chapel of Vaughn Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Weber officiating. Burial was in Spring City Cemetery. Vaughn Funeral Home in Spring City was in charge of the arrangements.
Jennings Billy Massengale
Died: 06/18/1999
Jennings Billy (J.B.) Massengale, of Dayton, died Friday, June 18, 1999, at Rhea Medical Center. He was 76.
A lifelong resident of Rhea County, Mr. Massengale was a member of New Union Baptist Church in Dayton. He was an avid supporter of the University of Tennessee Volunteers. Mr. Massengale was the former chairman of the Rhea County Election Commission and the Rhea County Grand Jury. He was a member of the Rhea County Farm Bureau and an active member of the Rhea County Democratic Party.
Mr. Massengale was preceded in death by his son, William Brad Massengale, and his brother, Harold Massengale.
Survivors include his wife, Kate Massengale of Dayton; sons, Don Massengale of Spring City, and Bryan Massengale of Dayton; three daughters, Betty Lundeen, Beverly Revis and Connie Reed, all of Dayton; eight grandchildren, Amber Putnam, Rachael Lundeen, Megan and Jennifer Revis, Denise and Brad Massengale, and Destiny and Caitlyn Reed; and two step-grandchildren, Tanner Gothard and Brandalyn Carter.
Funeral services will be conducted today, Sunday, June 20, at New Union Baptist Church in Dayton with Rev. Danny Ruehling officiating. Burial will follow in Buttram Cemetery in Dayton. Coulter-Garrison Funeral Home in Dayton was in charge of the arrangements.
Alice May Colbaugh
Died: 06/18/1999
Alice May Colbaugh, of Dayton, died Friday, June 18, 1999, at Rhea Medical Center. She was 88.
Born June 6, 1911, in Sequatchie County, she was the daughter of the late J.P. and Anna Henley Martin.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sammy L. Colbaugh, in 1989.
Mrs. Colbaugh lived in Dayton most of her life, was a homemaker by trade and graduated from Meigs County High School. She was a member of New Union Baptist Church in Dayton.
Survivors include her son, Marvin Calbaugh of Hixson; daughter, Joyce Whitman of Dayton; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted in the chapel of Vanderwall Funeral Home with Dr. Danny Ruehling and Pastor David Jones officiating. Burial was in Spence Cemetery in Dayton. Vanderwall Funeral Home in Dayton was in charge of the arrangements.
