Burial is in Rocky Mound Cemetery. Mr. Wells was born April 18, 1988 in Murfreesboro; Mr. Sullivan was born June 22, 1984 in Clarksville. The brothers died July 27, 2001 at Erlanger Medical Center, Chattanooga, of injuries sustained in an auto accident. Mr. Wells and Mr. Sullivan are survived by their mother, Wendy Cliburn of Tullahoma; maternal grandmother, Elizabeth Cliburn of Westmoreland; maternal great-grandmother, Lassie Cliburn Camplin of Westmoreland; sisters, Heather Leah Dale Cliburn of Gallatin and Hope Elizabeth Wells of Tullahoma; and step-father, Jimmy Breeding; Mr. Wells is also survived by his father, Johnnie Richard Wells of Smyrna; paternal grandparents, Mattie Ryberg of Smyrna, and Carmen Wells of New York; grandfather, Nathan Cliburn. Mr. Sullivan is also survived by his father, Frankie Sullivan, of Westmoreland; paternal grandparents, Howell and Doris Sullivan of Westmoreland. The brothers were students.

Services for Emma Erlene Kepley, 86 of Portland were 1 p.m., Saturday, July 28, 2001 from Wilkinson and Wiseman Funeral Home with Brother James Parker and Brother Don Readhimer officiating. Burial was in Sherron Cemetery. Pallbearers were Bruce Alan Briley, Mark Briley, Travis Briley, Danny Keen, Kerry Keen, Kyle Keen. Mrs. Kepley died Thursday, July 26, at her home. A native of Sumner County, she was born April 1, 1915, the daughter of Charlie Barber and Hattie Allison. She was a homemaker. Survivors include her husband, Ernest Kepley of Portland; two daughters, Dorothy Keen of Portland and Faye Briley of Adolphus, Ky.; a sister, Leathia Ausbrooks of Portland; three brothers, Paul Barber, Ray Barber, Elmer Barber of Portland; seven grandchildren, 13 grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild.

She was the daughter of the late Minus Pearson and Willie Ann Ripply Mason and was also preceded in death by her husband Everett Cordell Borders So. Mrs. Borders was a homemaker and a member of Providence General Baptist Church. She is survived by a son, Cordell (Carol) Borders of Westmoreland; daughters, Loretta (Don) Brown, Bethpage, Jo Ann (Kenneth) Graves, Gallatin; brothers, James T. (Betty) Pearson of Lebanon, Charles (Edith) Pearson of McMinville; 11 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Bonnie Stewart

She was a member of West End Missionary Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School.

Jayne Henry
Jayne Henry, a former Sumner County commissioner and Hendersonville alderman, died Dec. 7, 2002. She was 84. A funeral rosary will be held Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002, at 6 p.m. at the chapel at Cole & Garrett Funeral Home. Visitation will follow until 9 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held at noon Wednesday, Dec. 11 at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church. Mrs. Henry, a 40-year resident of Hendersonville, was involved in a variety of community activities, including the county commission, on which she served for 10 years; vice chair of the Education Committee; the Hendersonville Board of Mayor and Aldermen; and vice chair and longtime member of the Sumner County 911 Board. She had served as president, vice president and secretary, as well as volunteer tutor, for the Literacy Council of Sumner County since 1986. She also served as a volunteer for the American Cancer Society and was a member of the Hendersonville Tsuru Sister City Board of Directors, United Way Board of Directors and Crossroads of Destiny Board of Directors. She is survived by a son, Kenneth Prosser; a daughter, Lyna Rangel; seven grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

James Austin Lesemann
Memorial services for James Austin Lesemann, known to many as Jim, who passed away at his home in White House on Dec. 6, 2002, will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Alexander Funeral Home in Gallatin. He is survived by his children, James A. Lesemann Jr. of Huntersville, NC, Edward P. Lesemann of Malibu, Calif., Anne C. Lesemann of Ann Arbor, Mich., and Louise Lesemann Ericson of Spartanburg, SC; his brother, William L. Lesemann of Ft. Pierce, Fla.; four grandchildren, Rebecca and Andy Lesemann, Eleanor and Abby Ericson; four nephews, Al, Lou, Rob and William Lesemann; sister-in-law, Betty Jo Lesemann of Gallatin, mother-in-law, Mildred P. Grittman of Hot Springs, Ark.; and close friends, Alex Ericson, Andre Landzaat, Laura Hudson, Rose Bailey and Jim Brinkley. He was a member of Sigma Nu National Fraternity. He graduated from Ole Miss in 1959 and remained an avid Rebel fan until his death. He was a member of the Tennessee Bar Association and practiced law since 1959, with his last 22 years being in White House. The family will receive friends one hour before the memorial service on Wednesday at the funeral home. Myrtle Russell Carman
Funeral services for Myrtle Russell Carman, 92, a resident of Brandywood Nursing Home, are planned for 10 a.m. Tuesday at Alexander Funeral Home with Minister Wayne Meador officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin, Ky. She passed away Saturday at Sumner Regional Medical Center. She was the widow of Marlin Harris Carman and the daughter of the late Henry F. Russell and Mary Arena Davis Russell. Her brother, Irvin D. Russell, and a nephew, James Harvey Russell, also preceded her in death. She is survived by a niece, Alma Jean Miller of Indianapolis, Ind.; a nephew, Jesse Lee Russell of Brownsburg, Ind.; six great nephews and six great nieces. Visitation begins at 4 p.m. today.

Bessie Irene Callis

Mrs. Callis was born in Smith County on July 13, 1898, the daughter of the late Charles L. Thompson and Annie Betty Boulton Thompson. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Callis; sons, Cecil Carl Callis and Miller Steven Callis; brother, Landon Thompson; and sister, Ola Mae Barnes. She is survived by a daughter, Marjorie McHale of Fort Pierce, Fla.; sisters, Louanna Lee of Nashville and Ruth Thompson of Gallatin; daughters-in-law, Lucy Callis and Terry Callis, both of Nashville; eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

James Paul (Jim) Hill
Funeral services for James Paul (Jim) Hill, 65, who died Saturday, will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday from the chapel of Newby Funeral Home, with Bro. Hilman Duncan officiating. Burial will be in Crestview Memorial Park. Mr. Hill was born in Mecklinburg, Ky. on Sept. 30, 1937, son of the late Paul and Gladys Large Hill. He is survived by two sons, Andy Hill and wife Elaina Hill of Hartsville and Ron (Randy) Hill and wife Amy Hill of Nashville; one grandchild, Drew Hill, one brother, Jackie Hill and wife, Sherral Hill of Gallatin; one sister, Jo Hill Beckner of Hendersonville; and several nieces and nephews. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corp and was a veteran of the Korean War. After service to his country, he worked for the FBI, and was an officer at the Gallatin Police Department. He later worked with Sears and Allstate Insurance. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today and Tuesday from 10 a.m. until time for the services. A Masonic service will be held at 7 p.m. today at Newby Funeral Home. Active pallbearers are Billy H. Floyd Herman George, 85, of Cottontown, died Dec. 4, 2002 at Veterans Hospital, Nashville. Marquerite Etta Massey Lee, 87, of Bethpage, died at Highland Manor Nursing Home on Feb. 23, 2003. Funeral services are Tuesday, Feb. 25 at 2 p.m. at Anderson & Woodard Funeral Home. Burial will be in Allen County Memorial Gardens in Scottsville, Ky. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Mrs. Lee was born in Logan County, Ky. on Jan. 4, 1916. She is preceded in death by her father, Genie Massey, and her mother, Harriett Gatewood. She is survived by her husband Homer Gray Lee, of Bethpage. Homer Shorty Lee
Funeral services for Homer Shorty Lee, 75, of Red Boiling Springs will be conducted Tuesday, Feb. 25 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Phillip Anderson and Son Funeral Home in Red Boiling Springs with elder Jackie Stagner, elder Ken Graham and John Cook officiating. Honorary pallbearers were past and present Macon County Ambulance Service personnel: Barry North, Charles Jordan, Girvous Browning, Harold White, Bill Green, Jimmy Cook and Clarence Ferguson. Mr. Lee died Feb. 22, 2003 at the Palace in Red Boiling Springs. He was a native of Macon County. He was the son of the late Charlie and Beecie Hudson Lee. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Velma York and brothers Gale, Willard and Delmas Ray Lee. He was married to the former Mary Alice Bartley on Nov. 8, 1947. She survives him. He was a self-employed barber for 39 years, a Macon County EMT for 20 years, a member of the Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church and the Red Boiling Springs Fire Department from 1958 to 1972. Katherine M. Rochelle
Mrs. Katherine Rochelle, 85, of Gallatin, died Feb. 22, 2003. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Monday, Feb. 24, at Alexander Funeral Home with the Rev. Felix Snell officiating. Burial was in Crestview Memorial Park. Pallbearers were Ken, Will, Jeff and Marion Rochelle, John Fly and Wayne Vantrease. Mrs. Rochelle was preceded in death by her parents, William Henry McGill and Ethel Bratton McGill, and her husband, James Rochelle. Fred Lee (Pop) Brown
Mr. “Pop” Brown, 93, died Thursday, Feb. 20, 2003. Funeral services were conducted Sunday, Feb. 23, 3 p.m. from the chapel of Hendersonville Funeral Home with the Rev. Courtney Wilson officiating. Interment was in Gallatin City Cemetery. Pallbearers were Danny and Matthew Cutrell, Ray Bowles Jr., Mike and Tim Bowles, Art Hurd and Calvin, J.W. and Phillip Graves. Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Susie Bowles Brown. Barbara Ruth Townsend
Funeral services for Mrs. Barbara Ruth Townsend, 81, of Gallatin, were conducted on Sunday, Feb. 23, 2003, 2 p.m. at Anderson & Anderson Funeral Home Chapel in Gallatin with the Rev. Malcolm Patton and the Rev. Felix Snell officiating. Honorary pallbearers were her three grandchildren, Dr. Dana Orvis, Jason Townsend, and Derek Orvis. Interment was in Van Hoosen Cemetery in Rochester Hills, Mich. on Tuesday, Feb. 25, 1:30 p.m. Mrs. Townsend died on Friday, Feb. 21, 2003 at Saint Thomas Hospital, Nashville. A native of Armada, Mich., she was the daughter of the late Herman and Lydia Radloff Krueger. She was married to Robert Earl “Bob” Townsend on June 20, 1942, who survives. She was a licensed beautician and had worked along side her husband for several years serving as secretary to Townsend Insurance Agency. She was generous in giving her time to others. Besides her role as a dedicated wife and mother, she had been a Brownie and Cub Scout Leader and she and her husband were presently volunteering their time at Sumner Regional Medical Center. She had been a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Rochester, Mich. for 30 plus years and later moved her membership to Gallatin First United Methodist Church where she had been a member for about 18 years. Besides her husband of 60 years and grandchildren, she is survived by daughter, Deirdre (Gary) Laser, Battle Creek, Mich.; son, Darryl (Louise) Townsend, Rochester Hills, Mich.; sisters, Phyllis Ellis, Mt. Clemens, Mich., Dorothea Waun, Albion, Mich.; brother, Robert Krueger, Cadillac, Mich. The family requests that memorials in the form of donations be made to Leader Dogs for the Blind, Rochester, Mich., Sumner Hospital Foundation Hospitality House, Gallatin, or the Tennessee Heart Association. Marie Durrett Johnson
Mrs. Marie Johnson, 81, died Feb. 21, 2003, at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Fla. Born Aug. 3, 1921, in Robertson County, Tenn., the daughter of Leslie Davis and Cora McMurty Durrett. Preceded in death by her husband, James Davis Johnson, married Feb. 20, 1939. Survived by son, James Michael (Freeda) Johnson of Jackson, Tenn.; daughter, Janice Marie (David) Barnes of Winter Haven, Fla.; brothers, Melvin Leon (Leska) Durrett of Clearview, Tenn., Ernest Leslie (Ann) Durrett of Clearview, Tenn.; sisters-in-law, Winnie Johnson (Kenneth) Lane of Louisville, Ky., Lucille Durrett of Portland; grandchildren, Frederick Michael (Kristie) Johnson of Portland, Louis James Johnson of Jackson, Tenn., Jayme Allyne Barnes of Orlando, Fla., Jourdan Allison Barnes of Ft. Lawson W. Reed
Mr. Lawson Reed, 77, of Hollis Lane, Lafayette, and formerly of Gallatin died Monday, Feb. 24, 2003, at Macon County General Hospital in Lafayette. Charles Bobby “Bob” Whittle of Gallatin died Thursday, Feb. 27, 2003 at Sumner Regional Medical Center. He was also a member of College Heights Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his father Erwin Whittle. He is survived by his mother Ilith Coffee Whittle, who lives in Sumerset, Ky. and his wife Geneva “Neat” Lynch Whittle whom he married on Sept. 5, 1970. He retired from the State of Tennessee Department of Transportation after 40 years of service. He was a member of Buffalo Springs Missionary Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Eva Nell Tuttle.
