LAPPIN, MARTHA SUE, age 76, of Sewanee, TN, passed away Thursday, February 6, 2014. Funeral services were held Sunday, February 9 in the funeral home chapel with Minister Kenny Green officiating. Burial was in Tate Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Cumberland Funeral Home, Monteagle, TN.

GARNER, LOUIS STANLEY, 77, of East Ridge, TN, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, January 28, 2014. He was born and raised in Tracy City, TN. He was a US Marine, a member of East Ridge Church of Christ, and retired from Wheland Foundry as Operations Manager. After retirement, he and his wife enjoyed traveling to different cities attending bluegrass festivals. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Ora Garner; 2 brothers; and 3 sisters. Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Niccoa Garner; children, Beverly (Mitchell) Grubbs; Ed (Teresa) Garner and Tracy (Robert) Mills; grandchildren, Kyle O’Brien, Bridgette O’Brien, Rachael Garner, Cara Garner and Chandler Mills; sisters, Rose Ledbetter, Ruth Earp, and Carolyn Hughes; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held in Chattanooga. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked memorial donations be made to the East Ridge Church of Christ Benevolence Program (951 McBrien Road, East Ridge, TN 37412) . Arrangements were made by East Chapel of ChattanoogaFuneral Home, Crematory & Florist.

MOTT, CLAUDIE, 79, departed this life, February 10, 2014 at his home. He was retired from the State of Tennessee. He was born in Coalmont on December 11, 1934 to Floyd and Hazel Lockhart Mott who preceded him in death along with his son, Wicky Mott; brothers, J. R. “Rooney” and Tommy “Ledger” Mott. He is survived by his daughter, Rhonda (Bill) Smith, Jacksonville, NC; grandchildren, Jason (Rhonda) Meeks, Peyton and Asha Yokley, Natasha Prince, Cory Mott and April Payne; 9 great grandchildren. Memorial funeral services were held Thursday, February 13 in the funeral home chapel with Minister Clayton Jones officiating. A private burial followed in the Coalmont Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Layne Funeral Home, Palmer, TN.

WILSON, COLEMAN CLAY, also known as “Papa, ” 73, passed away Saturday, February 8, 2014 at The Bridge at Monteagle. He was a loving father, grandfather and friend to all that knew him. He was retired from The Houston Chronicle were he worked as a Printing Pressman. In his younger years, he was an avid golf player. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Charles Frayer of Hurst, TX; his daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer Wilson McQuary and Daniel S McQuary of Fort Stockton, TX; sons, Jared L Wilson, Jay Lynn Wilson and Joel L Wilson of Bedford, TX; grandchildren, Lauren and Micah Womack, Lindsey L Wilson, Travis K Wilson, Jordan Wilson, Justin Wilson, Aaron Wilson, Jasen Wilson; great grandchildren, Connor Wilson Womack and Addison Grace Womack; nieces, Shelley Frayer Prikey and Dena Frayer. The family would like to thank the staff and caretakers at The Bridge of Monteagle and the CNA Tim for the compassionate care they provided for the last 10 years. In lieu of flowers please send donations to The Avalon Hospice of Tullahoma and the Parkinson’s Association. Local arrangements were made by the Cumberland Funeral Home, Monteagle, TN.

PHILLIPS, TIMOTHY EDWARD, 49, died Wednesday, January 29, 2014. He was born in Palmer, Tennessee on March 10, 1964 to Billy Ed and Mildred McDaniel Phillips who preceded him in death along with his sister, Melanie Cleek; brothers, Melvin R. McDaniel, Billy Ray and Jack Dennis Phillips. He is survived by his daughter, Miranda (Justin) DeFluiter; son, Casey Christian; stepson, Matthew Slatton; brother, Raymond (Carolyn) Phillips; grandmother, Lela Tate; grandchildren, Mason and Colton; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Friday, January 31 in the funeral home chapel with Ministers Jerry Stockwell and Jamie Pack officiating. Burial was in Palmer Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Layne Funeral Home, Palmer, TN.

MORRISON, MARTIN CHARLES, 79, died at his home Thursday, January 30, 2014. He was retired from the Carrier Corporation and was a US Army veteran. He was born in Palmer, Tennessee on February 9, 1934 to Lee Robert and Pearl Layne Morrison who preceded him in death along with his wife, Dorothy Privett Morrison; son, Robert Lee Morrison; brother, Edward Morrison; grandchildren, Gavin and Taylor Dykes. He is survived by his son, Larry (Kathy) Morrison; granddaughter, Jamie Dion Morrison; great grandchildren, Alexis Dion and Raven Storm Dykes; sister Elaine Higgins. Military honors were given by the Sequatchie Valley Honor Guard at Layne Funeral Home, Palmer, TN. Arrangements were made by Layne Funeral Home, Palmer, TN.

NORRIS, BOBBY EUGENE, 68, departed this life for a better land, Friday, January 31, 2014. He was retired from the Carrier Corporation and was a member of the Hubbard’s Cove Church of God. He was born in Beersheba Springs on October 14, 1945 to Arwin Eugene Norris and Rebecca Faye Smartt Norris who preceded him in death along with first wife and mother of his children, Charlie Mae Norris; sister, Earlene Sweeton; granddaughter, Hannah Norris. He is survived by his loving wife, Teresa Carol Braseel Norris; son, Lee Norris; daughters, Carla Long and Marie Whitman; grandchildren, Derek, Keri (LeBron), Tiffany (Dalton), Lindsey (Cody), Chelby, Erica, Jase, Braxton and Jaron; sisters, Melba McGee and Linda (Jerry) Nelson; great granddaughter Bailey Mae; brothers-in-law, Jackie Sweeton, Terry and Eddie (Lynn) Braseel; sister-in-law, Regina (Thomas) Johnson; mother-in-law, Selma Braseel; several loving nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Monday, February 3 in the funeral home chapel with Ministers Jack Nance and Don Hill officiating. Burial was in Fults Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Layne Funeral Home, Altamont, TN.

NEAL, JERRY W., age 51, of Belvidere, TN, passed away Saturday, February 1, 2014. A native of Franklin County, he was a 1980 graduate of Franklin County High School. He was employed by Yates Services and worked as an electrician at Nissan in Decherd and was a member of the Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church. He raised beef cattle and loved to fish. His family will best remember him as a loving father and grandfather who absolutely adored his grandson, Dalton. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Bessie Jane Reed Neal of Belvidere; daughter and son-in-law, Jessica LaShae and Matthew Roberts of Ft. Hood, TX; sons, Jonathan, Joseph and Jacob Neal, all of Belvidere; mother and father, James Dale Neal and Margaret Smith Neal of Belvidere; brothers, Terry Ray (Linda) Neal of Belvidere, Kerry Dale Neal of Murfreesboro and John Ben (Angela) Neal of Belvidere; grandson, Dalton Douglas Roberts of Ft. Hood, TX; nieces, Anastasia and Victoria Neal; nephews, Terry J “TJ, ” Derrick and Vinson Neal; mother and father-in law, James E. and Lillie Mae Reed of Cowan. The funeral service was conducted from the chapel of Watson-North Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 4 with Bro. John Ben Neal officiating. PAYNE, RITA LAYNE, age 64, of Tracy City, Tennessee, passed away Saturday, February 1, 2014 in Southern Tennessee Medical Center. She was a daughter of the late Ernest Layne and Auline Campbell Layne and was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Roy Payne; grandson, Floyd Kevin O’Dear, II. Survivors include her sons, Floyd Kevin O’Dear (Angie) and Troy Nelson Payne, both of Tracy City; sister, Cathy (Jimmy) Lyle, Jasper; grandchildren, Toni Nicole Worley, Ashly Dawn O’Dear, Derrick Burgess O’Dear, and 5 great grandchildren, Harley Worley, Dylan Worley, Hunter O’Dear, Remington O’Dear, and Kaylin Messick. Graveside services were held Tuesday, February 4 in Plainview cemetery with Reverend Clayton Jones officiating. Arrangements were made by Foster and Lay Funeral Home, Tracy City, TN
