Alice Abrell Slinkard

Alice Abrell Slinkard, age 101, of Bandera, died Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2004 at her residence. She was born Aug. 30, 1903 in Sandborn, Indiana to Clarence Henry and Louise Schwartz Hagemier. She lived in Sandborn, Ind. until her marriage in 1929 to Otto Abrell when she moved to Linton, Indiana. He preceded her in death in 1952. Her second marriage was to William Slinkard in 1960. Alice was employed as a nurse aide from 1953 to 1963. She moved to Bandera in 1996. The two things she couldn't live without were the beauty shop on Thursdays and the daily pot of coffee, which she claims is the secret to a long life.

Survivors include two adopted daughters, Patty Pearson of Bandera and Betty Dipiazza of Gary, Indiana, four adopted grandchildren, Gavin Pearson of Saltillo, Mexico, Yvette Ortega of La Geiba, Honduras, Carlyn Deerberg of Bandera, and Lahree Baker of San Antonio and many friends. Both husbands, five sisters and four brothers preceded her in death. Memorial services were Sept. 25 at Grimes Funeral Chapel, with Sam Hensley officiating.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Grimes Funeral Chapels of Bandera.

JOHN BRAXTON GALLMAN

John Braxton Gallman, age 92 of Bandera, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2004 in a San Antonio hospital. He was born Nov. 16, 1911 in Cotulla to John Henry Gallman and Katharine (Poole) Gallman. John was a ranch hand and of the Presbyterian faith.

Survivors include his sister, Barbara Greene of Kerrville; niece, Barbara Greene Schomer, Ph.D. and husband, Don F. Schomer, M.D. of Denver, Colo.; great niece, Kate Braxton Schomer and great nephew, Matthew Leon Schomer, both of Denver, Colo.; and his friends at the Copper Valley Care Center in Bandera.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Katharine Gallman and brother, Donald Poole Gallman.

Graveside services will be held Oct. 1 at 2 p.m. at Garden of Memories cemetery, officiated by Dr. Warren Hornung.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Grimes Funeral Chapels of Kerrville.

A.G. O'BRIEN

A.G. O'Brien, age 73, a lifetime resident of Harper, passe d away Monday, Sept. 27, 2004 at his residence. He was born July 7, 1931 in San Antonio to Jimmy and Florida (Jones) O'Brien. On Nov. 20, 1960, he married Faye Rotan in Hondo.

Mr. O'Brien served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and received a Purple Heart. He worked in the maintenance department for Mooney Aircraft.

He is survived by his wife, Faye O'Brien of Harper; daughters, Linda Lindner of Fredericksburg, Marilyn Perdew of Ingram, Kathie Dawson of Old Town, MD and Andrea Barnett and husband, Wes of Fredericksburg; sons, Andy O'Brien and wife, Putt of Lexington, TX and Cleveland O'Brien and wife, Lois of Austin; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Services were Sept. 30 at Thousand Hills Cowboy Church on Old Peterson Farm Road, officiated by Rev. Ron Moore. Interment will be at Jones cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Brian Heimann, Jon Pankratz, Jr., Trevor Lindner, Bruce Fisher, Wesley O'Brien, Drew O'Brien, Buck Barnett and Jacob Kuhn.

Honorary pallbearers were Seth Perdew, John Dawson, Robbie Dawson and Brian Dawson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Jones cemetery, c/o Byron Scott Johnson, 14801 Broken Bow Trail, Austin, TX 78734 or to Thousand Hills Cowboy Church, 1034 Harper Rd., Kerrville, TX 78028.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Grimes Funeral Chapels of Kerrville.

DESIRAYE "RAYE RAYE" WHITLOW-BAILEY

Our precious angel Desiraye "Raye Raye" Whitlow-Bailey finally got her wings Sept. 12, 2004 at the age of 6. She was born Sept. 14, 1997 in Mexia, Texas to Tom and Dee Bailey. She was preceded in death by her great grandparents, Mamaw and Papaw McKinley. She is survived by Mommy and Daddy Bailey; grandparents, John and Bonnie Smith, Tom and Hannah Bailey, Brad and Claudia Whitlow; brother, Bradlee "Bubba" Bailey; sister, Ashley "Sissy" Garibay; aunts and uncles, Jo, Donivian, Heidi, Jim, Amanda, Rick, Jade, and Jay; numerous cousins and extended family. The family would like to offer special thanks to Dr.'s Mahendra Patel and staff, Dr. Ron Williams, and Britt at Dr. Williams's office, the entire 4th floor nursing staff at the Children's Methodist Hospital.

Services. Her funeral service began at 2:30 p.m. at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North. Interment services are to follow and are to begin at 4:14 p.m. the exact time of her birth at Mission Burial Park North. Brother Bob Morris and Brother Erin Derrick will be officiating. If so desired, memorials may be made in her memory to the San Antonio Sparrow Clubs; 4518 Bethel Bend, San Antonio, TX 78247.

Betty Allen Manning MacNaughton

Betty Allen Manning MacNaughton passed away on Sept. 12, 2004 in a San Antonio hospital. After a courageous battle with cancer for six years, she has gone on to meet her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Betty was born on July 2, 1953, to Billie and Kenneth Manning in Kerrville. She graduated from Tivy High School and Sam Houston State University. She taught Special Education in Center Point and Kerrville for 12 years. She spent her summers teaching swimming for the American Red Cross and the City of Kerrville. Betty married Randy MacNaughton on Nov. 19, 1977. She moved to Medina where she made their home for 27 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Medina. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star of the Medina Chapter No. 988 and Delta Kappa Gamma.

Betty was preceded by her father, William Kenneth Manning.

She is survived by: her husband, Randy and son Scott; her mother, Billie; her brother, Collis and his family Donna, Hayley and Regan; Randy's parents, Ken and Janie Whitewood and Butler and Barbara MacNaughton; Randy's brother Todd and his family Serena and Whitley; and numerous cousins.

Services were Sept. 14 at Grimes Funeral Chapels in Bandera with Dr. Allie Balko and Rev. Bill Moseley, officiating. Interment followed at Oak Rest cemetery in Medina. Pallbearers were Neal Kaiser, Kenneth Dabney, P. H. "Fourth" Coates, Connie Simons, Larry Kirk and Gary C. Stokes. Honorary Pallbearers are Murry R. LeStourgeon, B. H. LeStourgeon, Dr. Raymond Holekamp, Dr. Chester St. Romain, and Linda Barton.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Medina, Building Fund.

Steven P. McAlexander

Steve McAlexander, born Sept. 19, 1956, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2004 at the age of 48. Steve was born in Orange, Calif., had lived in Pleasanton, and San Antonio and was a resident of Bandera. He was a graduate of Southwest Texas State University and was a Technology Consultant specializing in Infrastructure Strategies. Survivors include his wife Amy McAlexander of Bandera, daughter Lauren Lea McAlexander of Bandera, sons Jonathan McAlexander of San Antonio and Liam Grant McAlexander of Bandera.

Visitation will be held Saturday, Sept. 25 at 4 p.m. with a memorial service to begin at 6 p.m. with Rev. Duane Lowe officiating. The memorial and visitation will be held at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North at 3401 Cherry Ridge Dr. Call 210-349-1414. Private family graveside services will be held at a later date at Ft. Sam Houston National cemetery. The family service will be directed by Mario Perez.

A.B. "SKEETS" SINGLETON

Graveside service for A.B. "Skeets" Singleton, 81, of Tarpley; who died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2004, in a San Antonio hospital, were held Sunday, Oct. 3, 2004. at the Tarpley cemetery with Mr. Ron Briley officiating. On March 4, 1923 in Stephens, GA he was born to Crayton Waymon and Mary Etta (Massengill) Singleton. In Corpus Christi, on Jan. 7, 1943 he married Bobby Louise Word, who preceded him in death on April 9, 1995. On June 30, 1961, he retired from the U.S. Navy as a warrant officer with 20 years of service to his country. He was a master electrician and a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. Almost 25 years ago he and his wife moved to Tarpley to make their home and he had been in charge of the Volunteer Fire Department at Rio Hondo subdivision. A grand daughter, Marci Singleton in 1988, his parents, four brothers, and a sister also preceded him in death. Survivors include a daughter, Jeri Faladeau of Tarpley; three sons and their wives: Leonard B. Singleton and Mary of Charleston, S.C., Richard D. Singleton and Donna of New Braunfels; and Byron C. Singleton and Sharon of Smithville; eight grandchildren, Ginni Dingledein, Alan Singleton, Kaci Singleton, Harla Singleton, Derek Falardeau, Dustin Singleton, Amber Singleton, and Brandon Singleton; two great grandsons, Kurt and Kyle Dingeldein; and a sister, Madge Chambers of Connecticut.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Grimes Funeral Chapels of Bandera.

Shirley Ann Evans Stages

Shirley Evans Stages, age 75 of Austin, died Friday, Oct. 15, 2004 at her residence. She was born on March 29, 1929 in Clovis, N.M. to Gus and Georgea Davis Evans. On July 27, 1965, she married William E. "Bill" Stages in Corpus Christi. Bill was the football coach at W.B. Ray High school and won more games than any other coach and was inducted into the High School Hall of Fame.

Shirley's values were Christian and standards were excellence. She taught junior high and high school in Corpus Christi, Galveston, Port Arthur and Austin, won many teaching awards in speech, debate, and drama, and she was a positive influence on all her students. At the 1989 Class Reunion in Corpus Christi, she was honored by her 1958 Debate Class with a plaque and other mementos. In 1975, she was the commencement speaker for the Bandera High School graduation exercises. She retired from teaching in 1984 with over 30 years service.

Graveside services were Oct. 24 at Bandera cemetery, with Mr. Martin Smith officiating.

Maria Rodriguez Briley

Services for Maria Rodriguez Briley, age 44 of Pipe Creek, who passed away Tuesday, Oct. 19 were Oct. 23 at Grimes Funeral Chapels of Bandera, officiated by Deacon Bobby Stein. Interment will follow at the New Catholic cemetery in Bandera. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to CCPAL of Bandera. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Grimes Funeral Chapels of Bandera.

DEWEY E. DAMRON, JR.

Dewey E. Damron Jr., entered into rest on Oct. 22, 2004 in Pipe Creek. He served in the military for 25 years with full honors. Dewey received his degree in civil engineering from old Miss. He served with special forces, Operation Red Horse. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Bandera. As a member of the Knights of Columbus, he served as Grand Knight and Navigator for West Texas. He was preceded in death by his brother, Johnny Damron, son, Billy Joe Damron, and a daughter, Juanita Marie Damron Wade. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Matilda; children, John Damron, Billy Wayne Damron, Jr. Damron, Richard Damron, Trudy Maier, Deanne Beckcom, Margaret Loudermilk; sisters, Lucille Landreth, Louise Walker, Virginia Faye Perez, Sandra Armstrong: brother, Donald Damron; many grandchildren as numerous as the stars that only one can see in the hill country; many wonderful nieces and nephews. The funeral service was at St. Matthew Catholic Church in San Antonio with interment at Fort Sam National cemetery with Full Military Honors on Oct. 27. Call 210-521-2111 for information.

Frank Leslie Stanford, Jr.

Graveside services for Mr. Frank Leslie Stanford, Jr., age 81 of Pipe Creek, who passed away Wednesday, October 20, 2004 in a San Antonio hospital were Oct. 25 at the New Catholic cemetery in Bandera. He was born Oct. 18 in Lyford, Texas. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Grimes Funeral Chapels of Bandera.

EVA GRACE WHITEHEAD KEESE

Eva Grace Whitehead Keese, 92, of Medina, died Oct. 29, 2004, in a Kerrville hospital. She was born March 7, 1912, in Medina to Robert L. and Jennie Gertrude Alston Whitehead. On June 27, 1930, she married James Franklin Keese in Kerrville.

She was a member of the Church of Christ, worked a number of years at Collins of Texas and was a homemaker.

Survivors include two daughters, Eva Janice Coughran-Herod and husband Joe of Marble Falls and Betty Gene Smith and husband Charles of Devine; daughter-in-law, Bobbie Keese of San Antonio; two sons, Walter Robert "Bob" Keese and wife Kathryn of Kerrville and James Milton Keese and wife Jane Ann of Three Rivers; one sister, Gertrude Krienke of San Antonio; grandchildren, Debra McDonnell, Rick Coughran, Scott Coughran, Brett Coughran, Robert Keese, Kristi Keese, Julie Waddell, Chuck Smith, Jamie Dawn Rascon, Philip Smith, Darla Quillen and Chris Keese; numerous great grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Keese; son, L.G. Keese; four brothers and three sisters.

Services were held Nov. 2 at the Stringtown Raod Church of Christ. Interment followed in Oak Rest cemetery.

Pallbearers were the seven grandsons and honorary pallbearers were Randy MacNaughton, Raul Ferris, Bob Keeling and Gerald Long.

Memorials may be made to the Medina Children's Home and/or the Medina EMS.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Grimes Funeral Chapels of Bandera.

Allie M. Belcher Reed

Allie M. Belcher Reed, age 77 of Cameron, died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2004 in a Lampasas hospital. She was born on July 20, 1927 in Clarksville to Haywood Richard Belcher and Annie Phillips Belcher. On March 11, 1947, she married David Burl Reed. He preceded her in death on May 12, 1994. Allie graduated from Slaton High School in 1946, enjoyed reading, sewing and loved making dolls.

Survivors include three daughters, Jo Blakley and husband, Sandy of Izoro; Sherri Butler and husband, Rick of Hubbard, and Nancy Gayle Griffin and husband, Daniel of Cameron; three sons, Thomas David Reed and wife, Carolyn of Rankin; Timothy Burl Reed and wife, Bonnie of Ingram; and Lewis Michael Reed and wife, Liz of New Ulm; sister, Neva Reed of Medina; 15 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one great granddaughter.

Services are scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 13 at 11 a.m. at Grimes Funeral Chapels of Kerrville with Mr. Martin Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Rest cemetery in Medina.

Pallbearers will be Ashley Griffin, Clint Butler, Sam Blakley, William Butler, Avery Griffin, Kirk Blakley and Ethan Reed.

Honorary pallbearers are Justin Blakley, Catrina Benner, Brandi Wike, Rebecca Reed, Stacey Reed, Cheryl Reed, Kelly Hajek and Lauren Reed.

Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Grimes Funeral Chapels of Kerrville.
