Services for Roy E. Worrall, Jr. 77, of Salado will be a private. Roy died Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at a local hospital. He was born September 12, 1932 to Roy Eugene Worrall and Minnie T. Naaktgeboren in Knoxville, Iowa.

Specialist Roland Espinoza

Fort Hood officials have released the name of a Soldier who died Sept. 12, 2010 in San Antonio from injuries sustained from an automobile accident.
Specialist Roland Espinoza, 21, of San Antonio, joined the military in September 2007 as a human intelligence collector and was assigned to Company C, 303rd Military Intelligence Battalion, 504th Battlefield Surveillance Brigade, Fort Hood, since December 2009.
Espinoza deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from November 2008 to November 2009.
Espinoza’s awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal with combat service star, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon and Overseas Service Ribbon.
Circumstances surrounding this incident are under investigation.

Patsy L. Ray Goode (Poppy)

Services for Patsy L. Ray (Poppy) Goode, 73 of Jarrell formerly of Belton were held Sept. 13, 2010, at Heartfield Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed at Corn Hill cemetery in Jarrell with Pastor John Warden officiating.
Goode passed away Sept. 9, 2010 at a local hospital. She was born in Heidenheimer July 18, 1937 to Acy “Jewel” and Winnie Ray.

Col. (Ret) James E. Tuck

Funeral services for Col. (Ret) James E. Tuck, 81, of Salado were held Sept. 3 at the Salado United Methodist Church with Rev. Travis Franklin officiating. Burial will follow at the Salado Cemetery.
James E. Tuck died Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at his home in Salado.

Linda Lanham Douglass

Linda Lanham Douglass passed away at her home in Salado on Monday, Sept. 6, 2010 with her family and friends at her side. A memorial service will be held Sept. 12 at 10 a.m. in the Chapel at St. Stephen’s Episcopal School, 6500 St. Stephen’s Drive, Austin.
Linda was born on July 1, 1940, the daughter of E.F. (Rip) and Marie Blair Lanham. She attended Belton and Temple schools and graduated from the University of Texas in 1962.

Private First Class Diego Miguel Montoya

The Department of Defense announced today the death of a Soldier who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
Private First Class Diego Miguel Montoya died Sept. 2, 2010 in Laghman Province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit with indirect fire.
Montoya, 20, of San Antonio, Texas, joined the military in July 2009 as a military policeman and was assigned to the 64th Military Police Company, 720th Military Police Battalion, 89th Military Police Brigade, Fort Hood since December 2009.
Montoya deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in April 2010.
Montoya’s awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with campaign star, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, NATO Medal, Army Service Ribbon and Combat Action Badge.

Calvin L. Dockray, Sr.

Graveside services for Calvin Lee Dockray, Sr., 60, of Belton, were held August 28 at Herrington cemetery near Salado.
Calvin Lee Dockray passed away Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at a local hospital.

Geraldine Evans

Funeral services for Geraldine Evans, 89, of Salado were held, September 1, 2010 at Dossman Funeral Home in Belton with Reverend Joe Bentley officiating. Burial followed in Salado Cemetery. The family received friends for visitation at the Dossman Funeral Home.
Evans passed away August 29, 2010 in a Temple nursing facility.

Sgt. 1st Class Ferdinando Jerod Gandy

Sgt. 1st Class Ferdinando Jerod Gandy, 36, of Florence, S.C., died Aug. 25, 2010 at Womack Army Medical Center in Fort Bragg, N.C., from a preexisting illness.
Gandy joined the Army in September 1992 as a power-generation equipment repairer and later changed career fields to a mental health specialist.
He was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2nd Battalion, 7th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, since July 2010.
Gandy deployed in support of Operations Desert Storm, Kosovo, Enduring Freedom from April 2002 to February 2003 and Iraqi Freedom from November 2004 to November 2005.
Gandy’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Army Commendation Medal with five oak leaf clusters, Army Achievement Medal with seven oak leaf clusters, Army Good Conduct Medal with five oak leaf clusters, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal, Kosovo Campaign Medal with bronze service star, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with campaign star, Iraq Campaign Medal with two campaign stars, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon with a numeral two, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, NATO Medal, Drill Sergeant Identification Badge, Driver and Mechanic Badge, and Driver and Mechanic Badge with Operator.

Private First Class Alexis Vicente Maldonado

The Department of Defense announced the death of a Fort Hood soldier who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
Private First Class Alexis Vicente Maldonado, 20, of Wichita Falls, Texas, died Aug. 21, 2010 at Kandahar Air Field, Afghanistan, of wounds sustained when insurgents attacked his unit using small-arms fire at Zhari District, Kandahar Province, Afghanistan.
Maldonado joined the Army in October 2008 as a combat engineer. He was assigned to 510th Clearance Company, 20th Engineer Battalion, 36th Engineer Brigade, Fort Hood, Texas, since July 2010. He deployed to Afghanistan in December 2009.
Maldonado’s awards and decorations include the Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with combat service star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, NATO Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon and Army Service Ribbon.

Mary Whitaker

Services for Ilene Mary Whitaker, 79, of Salado will be private.
Burial will be in Richwood, West Virginia at a later date.
She died August 19, 2010 at her residence.

Sgt. 1st Class Fuatia Tia Theus

Sgt. 1st Class Fuatia Tia Theus, 38 of Honolulu, Hawaii, died at Scott and White Hospital in Temple, Texas on Aug. 16.
Theus joined the Army in December 1990 as a human resources specialist. She was assigned to Company C, 2nd Battalion, Warrior Transition Brigade, Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center since July 2010.
Theus’ awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal with three oak leaf clusters, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal with four oak leaf clusters, Army Achievement Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Army Good Conduct Medal with six oak leaf clusters, National Defense Service Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Global War on Terrorism Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon with a numeral three, Army Service Ribbon and Drill Sergeant Identification Badge.

Specialist Armando Galvan Aguilar Jr.

Fort Hood officials have released the name of a Soldier who died Aug. 21, 2010 from an apparent gunshot wound.
Specialist Armando Galvan Aguilar Jr., 26, of Blessing, Texas, was pronounced deceased at Hillcrest Hospital, Hewitt, Texas.
Aguilar joined the military in October 2007 as a combat engineer and was assigned to 87th Sapper Company, 8th Engineer Battalion, 36th Engineer Brigade, Fort Hood, since February 2008.
Aguilar deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from April 2008 to July 2009.
Aguilar awards and decorations include the Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal with one bronze star device, Iraqi Campaign Medal with combat service star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Combat Action Badge and Driver and Mechanic Badge with Driver - Wheeled Vehicles.
Circumstances surrounding this incident are under investigation.

John Edgar Wood

Funeral Services for John Edgar Wood, 77, of Salado, will be held at 3 PM Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at the Dossman Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Joe Bentley and Rev. Mike Harkrider officiating.
Burial will follow at the North Belton Cemetery.

Private First Class David Keith Stewart

Fort Hood officials have released the name of a Soldier who died Aug. 14, 2010.
Private First Class David Keith Stewart, 45, of Madison, Miss., was found unresponsive in his barracks’ room and transported to Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Stewart joined the military in June 2007 as a motor transport operator. He was assigned to Company B, 1st Battalion, Warrior Transition Brigade, CRDAMC, since November 2009.
Stewart’s decorations and awards include the Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal and Army Service Ribbon.
The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation.
