Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. John Lucido officiating. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today at 229 S. Spruce St. Burial will be at the Kermit cemetery. Arrangements by Cooper Funeral Chapel. She was born in Kermit and was a lifelong resident. She was Catholic. SURVIVORS: Husband, Fabian Quiroz of Kermit; son, Xavier Quiroz of Kermit; parents, Santana and Lisa Ortiz of Kermit; brother, Isaac Ortiz of Kermit; sisters, Michelle Urias of Midland and Monique Ortiz of Kermit; and grandparents, Apolonio and Esiquia Ortiz and Enrique Martinez, all of Kermit. Makala Spoon ODESSA - Makala Shea Spoon, an infant, of Odessa died Sunday, April 28, 2002, in Odessa. Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Zion Fellowship Church with the Rev. Dewey Blevins officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill cemetery. Arrangements by Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. She was born in Odessa. SURVIVORS: Parents, Benjamin D. and Teresa Spoon of Odessa; brother, Joshua Levi Spoon of Odessa; sister, Keisha Elizabeth Wagoner of Odessa; grandparents, Peggy and Kenny Walters of Odessa, Sally Duck of Carlsbad, N.M., and Wayne Spoon of Lafayette, La.; and great-grandparents, Neatsy and Dwight Dunn of Loving, N.M., and Gene Spoon of Kermit. Georgia Lee Bothwell ODESSA — Georgia Lee Bothwell, 76, of Odessa passed from “death unto life” on Sunday, Nov. 3, 2002. She was born June 29, 1926, in Hale Center, Texas, to Logan and Maude McDaniel. She married Donald Bothwell Sr. on Nov. 7, 1944. They returned to Odessa in 1992 to be near their children, after having lived in Colorado, Plainview, Texas, Missouri and the Tyler, Texas, area. She was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, friend and homemaker. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Maurine Fitch, Shirley McBroom; and brother, Joe Bob McDaniel. She is survived by her husband, Don Bothwell Sr.; sons, Don Bothwell Jr. and wife Linda, Ron Bothwell and friend Evelyn Garton and Ben Bothwell and wife Stephanie, all of Odessa; grandsons, Brian Bothwell and Brad Bothwell, both of Houston, Texas; and sister, Bee Lawler and husband Jim of Athens, Texas. Services will be at 2 p.m. today, Nov. 6, 2002, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Don Palmer officiating. Interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens, with arrangements by Hubbard-Kelly. Faith Homsey Scott ODESSA — Faith Scott joined her heavenly Father on Nov. 4, 2002, after a brave and courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002, at First Baptist Church in Odessa with Pastor Bob Grimes and Pastor Kevin Parker officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Faith Scott was a longtime Odessa resident. She spent her childhood in this community and graduated from Permian High School in 1970 and received her bachelors and masters from UTPB. For the past eight years, she was employed as a principal in Garden City School. Faith loved her students and with her leadership, Garden City High School accomplished exemplary status from Texas Education Agency for three years. For many years, Faith served as a teacher for the Ector County School District. She taught sixth grade at several schools, including Milam, Cameron, Fly, Travis and Gonzales elementary. In her last year in 1993-1994, she served as Administrative Intern at Gonzales Elementary. She was a respected employee and a well-loved teacher. She was involved in many organizations including, TASSP, TEPSA, District UIL Commission, Garden City Booster Club and PTA. She is survived by her son, Jeremy Scott of Garden City; daughters, Kristina Scott and Stephanie Scott, both of Garden City; brothers, Larry Homsey and Lynn Homsey and wife Candy, all of Odessa; and her precious little dog, Diamond. She is also survived by nephews and niece Gary Homsey and wife Becky and David Homsey, all of Odessa, Don Homsey of San Antonio, Chris Homsey of Dallas and Carrie Nuckles of New Hampshire; great-nieces and nephews that she doted on, Trinity Homsey, Kendal Homsey, Connor Homsey and Tristan Homsey; and numerous aunts and uncles. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to Hospice House or a charity of their choice. Service entrusted to Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. Vernon Davis Anderson ODESSA — Vernon Davis Anderson of Odessa, 68, passed from this life on November 5, 2002. The son of William Ellis and Bessie Anderson, he was born March 17, 1934. At 9 years of age, he was stricken with polio, which left him crippled in body, but not in spirit. Confined to bed many months at a time as a child, he read everything he could get his hands on. History became a special interest leading him on knowledge quests in both secular and Biblical history. After he graduated from Grandfalls — Royalty High School in 1952, he obtained a B.S. degree from Texas A&M. Most of his adult life was spent in Bryan, Texas, where he was a CPA serving as the treasurer of General Security Life Insurance Co. He was an active member of West University Church of Christ. Post Polio Syndrome struck him 50 years after his initial illness. He heroically battled the disease until it claimed his life on November 5, 2002. He is survived by 2 sisters, Anita Love of Odessa; and Helen Black of Grandfalls; one brother, William Ellis Anderson of Mesquite; a niece Kathy Jones of Odessa; and numerous other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Howard Neil Anderson. The families of his brothers and sisters meant a great deal to him. Family gatherings were especially dear to his heart as he enjoyed playing board games and other festivities with them. He especially looked forward to visiting with them. Funeral services for Mr. Anderson will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, N ovember 9, 2002 at West University Church of Christ, 10137 W. University with Roy D. Jones officiating. In lieu of flowers the family suggests a donation to Odessa Christian School or West University Church of Christ. Arrangements are entrusted to Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home. At a very young age, Vernon was struck with a disease. Polio crippled him. But yet he refused to freeze. Passing the time away, He read the entire library Learning things as he went Over many a century. To A&M he went Where he could use his knowledge, Obtain a degree And graduate from college. Even up to the last Vernon continued his long fight Never giving up hope ‘Til he had given all his might. Now he’s resting in peace Standing hand in hand with angels In a land where he Has no more pain, strife, or struggles. Vivian McDade Everage ODESSA — Vivian McDade Everage, 75, a retired beautician, went to be with the lord on Monday, November 4, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa, Texas. Mrs. Everage lived in Odessa. She was born in Rockdale, Texas, on July 8, 1927, to the late Will McDade, Sr. and Sarah Mullins. She was educated in the Rockdale School District where she received her High School Diploma from Aycock High School. She obtained her cosmetology certification from Huston Tillotson College in Austin. She moved to Odessa in the early 1960s and was the owner/operator of Gussie and Vivian’s Beauty Shop. She worked as a housekeeper for Jerry and Sadie Evans, owners of Evans Pharmacy, the Texas State Extension Service and as an ECISD bus driver until her retirement. She was a member of the Rose of Sharon Missionary Baptist Church where she served faithfully. She was preceded in death by her parents, eight sisters and four brothers. She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, A.W. Everage; daughters, Sheila Everage of Odessa and Sarah Everage Todman (Ishmael) of Arlington; sister, Dorothy Sweezer of Houston; grandchildren, Adrian Everage of Odessa, John Mitchell and Vivian Aloma Todman of Arlington; nieces and nephews, Yuvanda Roberson (V.T.) of Odessa, Velda Gibson and Callie Sweezer of Houston, Edward Adams of Amarillo, Samuel Gipson (Carolyn) Myles Gibson and Charles Young of Odessa, Hubert Ray Bell of Houston and a host of family and friends. Visitation will be held at Martinez Funeral Home from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, November 9, 2002, at 1 p.m. at Rose of Sharon Missionary Baptist Church. Reverend J.W. Hanson will be officiating. Burial will be in the Ector County cemetery in Odessa. Hairl E. “PaPa” Lawson LAKE COLEMAN — Hairl E. “PaPa” Lawson, age 74, of Lake Coleman, Texas, died Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002, at his residence. Funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002, at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Coleman cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home. Mr. Lawson was born October 28, 1928, in Seminole, Okla., and was born a son of Walter Jackson Lawson and Jewel Irene Whitecotton Lawson. He grew up and attended school in Oklahoma. He served in the U.S. Army in the Korean Conflict. On December 2, 1952, he married Wanda V. Rimer in Arlington, N.M., and she preceded him in death on May 5, 2002. He lived in Crane in the early 1950’s Odessa for 30 years and in Saudi Arabia for 13 years where he was a consultant for RAMCO. He moved to Lake Coleman in 1978 and at the time of his death was the owner of Concho Car Wash. He was Baptist. Survivors include three daughters, Linda Mahan of Weinert, Pamela Maples of Odessa and Vickie Hodges of Lake Coleman; one brother, Leroy Lawson of Boerne; eight sisters, Helen Ward and Edith Wiegert, both of Harrah, Okla., Rosie Wiegert and Mary Lou Canada, both of Oklahoma, Ellen Jilge and Alice Davis, both of Wellston, Okla., Jackie Hazel of California, Anne Ratcliffe of Illinois; 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one sister, Gladys Lawson; and a granddaughter, Lendra Mae Hodges. Family visitation will be held on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Big Country, 4601 Hartford, Abilene, Texas 79605. Otis Basil Taylor ODESSA — Otis Basil Taylor, 92, a longtime resident of Odessa joined his heavenly father November 4, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital. He was born May 1, 1910, in Coffeeville, Texas, to Andrew and Minnie Taylor. They later moved to Bluff Springs, Ark., where he married Eva Runnels on September 29, 1927. He was in the farming and sawmill business. They moved to Ft. Worth in 1943 where he worked as a mechanic until they moved to Odessa in the early 1950s, where he built and operated Taylor Body Works until he retired in 1975. He was a member of the Apostolic Church. He is survived by his wife, Eva Runnels, 92; two daughters, Wanda Bledsoe and Edna Parker, both of Odessa; eight grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 11 great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be loved and deeply missed by his family and friends and all who knew him. Services will be Thursday, November 7, 2002, at 2 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Jones and Stacy Bledsoe officiating. Interment will be at Rosehill cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home. James Brian Cochran ODESSA — James Brian Cochran, son of Bettie C. and Jerry Reed of Odessa and James L. and Kathleen Cochran of Odessa, died Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2002, at his home. He was administered to by Father Mark of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church and Pastor James Otterness of the Lutheran Church of the Risen Lord. Brian was 34-years-old, born Jan. 12, 1968, in Odessa. He was the father of James Austin Cochran. Brian considered his son his greatest success and joy. Brian participated in gymnastics at Odessa High School where he graduated in 1986. He attended college and graduated with honors. He won many awards in computerized drafting and technology. He was the proud business owner and founder of Gulf Coast Online in Corpus Christie. At the time of his death, he was Senior Engineer at Reedy Mfg. & Repair Svc. Inc. in Odessa. Everyone knew Brian as always being polite, courteous and helpful. His father felt he was the son that every father wished they had. Although he had no formal church affiliations, he was baptized and had an abiding faith in love of God and tried to live accordingly. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 18, 2002, in the chapel of Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors with Pastor James Otterness officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. He is survived first and foremost by his son, James Austin Cochran; mother, Bettie C. Reedy and his daddy, Jerry Reedy; father, James L. Cochran and step-mother, Kathleen Cochran; big sister, Christine Louise Cochran; beloved brother, David W. Cochran and wife Danielle and their children, Kelsi Shay and Bryant James, all of Odessa; sister, Tammy Reedy New and husband Kerry and their children, Ashley Nicole Jarrell, Morgan Shae Jarrell and Lindsay Kay New, all of Odessa, and June Reedy Hurst and her son Jarren of Lubbock ; brother, Jason Lee Cochran of Midland; and stepbrother, Ronnie Lewis of Dallas. Brian will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Pallbearers are David W. Cochran, Gary Millican Sr., Gary Millican Jr., Bob Johnson, Sid Lyle and Kerry New. Honorary pallbearers are Gary Cochran and Patrick Moore. Services have been entrusted to Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
