PORTALES, N.M. — Alberto Mendoza Villa, 83, of Portales, N.M., a retired maintenance man for the University of New Mexico, died Monday, Jan. 20, 2003, at Sunbridge Nursing Home of Clovis, N.M.
Rosary was said Jan. 21 at St. Helens Catholic Church. Burial was Jan. 22 at Portales cemetery. Arrangements by Wheeler Mortuary.
He was born in El Mulato, Chihuahua, Mexico. He was Catholic.
SURVIVORS: Sons, Antonio Villa of Newnan, Ga., Alberto Villa Jr., Alfonso Villa and Abel Villa, all of Odessa; daughters, Joelda Villa, Olga Chavez, Delma Tercero and Oralia Villa, all of Odessa; 24 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.

Archie Whitaker
ODESSA — Archie Leon Whitaker, 85, of Odessa, a retired oilfield salesman, died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2003 at Medical Center Hospital.
Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. today at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Darrell Riggs officiating. Arrangements by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
He was born in El Paso. He was Baptist.
SURVIVORS: Daughter, Elizabeth Cassely of St. Louis, Mo.; and four grandchildren.

James Mann
CRANE - James Mann, 87 of Crane, a retired owner and operator of a roustabout company, died Sunday, Jan. 19, 2003, at Hospice House in Odessa.
Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at the Crane County cemetery. Arrangements by Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home.
He was born in Crockett County.
SURVIVORS: Daughter, Joyce Adams of Odessa; sons, Don Mann of McCamey and Dean Mann of Pampa; sisters, Winifred Morgan of California and Opal Higginbotham of Lake Jackson; 20 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Jewel Sherrill
HOBBS, N.M. - Jewel Sherrill, 94, of Hobbs, N.M., died Monday, Jan. 20, 2003.
Services will be at 10 a.m. today at Bethel Assembly of God with Minister Raymond Hudson officiating. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. at Seagraves cemetery in Seagraves. Arrangements by Griffin Funeral Home.
She was born in Joplin, Ark.
SURVIVORS: Sons, Harold Sherrill, Alvin Sherrill and Bobby Sherrill, all of Hobbs, N.M., and Norman Sherrill of Andrews; daughter, Elsie Criswell of Hobbs, N.M.; nine grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with the Rev. Juan Carlos Barragan officiating. Burial will be at Castro Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Foskey-Lilley-McGill Funeral Home.
He was born in Palo Blanco Tampico, Mexico. He was Catholic.

ODESSA - Rufus 'Slim' Whiteside, 88, of Odessa, a retired oilfield worker, died Monday, Jan. 20, 2003, in Mount Enterprise.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Rose Hill cemetery. Arrangements by Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
He was born in Hubbard. He was Methodist. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
SURVIVORS: Sons, Raymond Neal Whiteside of Odessa and David Leon Whiteside of Marengo, Ill.; one sister; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
