Elsie M. Robinson
ODESSA — Elsie M. Robinson, 93, of Odessa passed away Monday, Dec. 30, 2002 at Medical Center Hospital. She was born Sept. 25, 1909 in Anacoco, La.
She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church. She is survived by her daughter, Tresina Hardin and husband, Morgan, of Odessa; sister, Myrtle Smith, of Port Neches, Texas, eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held 4 p.m. Thursday, January 2, 2003 at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Bill Cook officiating.
Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Russell W.B. Strasser
EL PASO — Russell W.B. Strasser, 40, an accomplished musician, passed away on Dec. 26, 2002 in Ann Arbor, Mich.
He was born Oct. 9, 1962 in El Paso and at the time of his death he was the Director of Music at St. John’s Catholic Church in Howell, Mich.
Russell is survived by his parents Pat Scott of Mount Juliet, TN., and Karl L. Strasser of El Paso. He is also survived by his sisters, Karla Norcio of Harbor City, CA, Debbie Roberts of Pecos, Bobbie Jo Francione-Hernandez of El Paso, Paula Rudisill and Sharon Strasser, both of Austin, and Susan Strasser-Medley of Van Horn; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 2, 2003, at Kaster-Maxon & Futrell Funeral Home, 8817 Dyer St., in El Paso. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Restlawn Memorial Park.
Sam Ballew
ODESSA — Sam Ballew, 72, of Odessa, an exemplary husband and father, left his life here on earth to begin life anew with his heavenly Father Monday, Dec. 30, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital. His wife and children were by his side. He was born March 13, 1930, to Samuel Ballew Sr. and Corine Warren Ballew in Fort Worth, Texas.
He moved to Odessa in 1948. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and married
Dorothy “Dottie” Everson July 24, 1954. He was employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone for 50 years and retired in 1999. He was honored by Governor George Bush for his “remarkable record of service.” He was a member of Crescent Park Baptist Church where he was a Boy Scout leader.
Survivors include his wife Dottie; a daughter and son-in-law, Patti and Greg Parish of Arlington; a son and daughter-in-law, Sammy and Kathy Ballew of Desoto; and four grandchildren, Clint and Catie Parish, and Travis and Cole Ballew, and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Crescent Park Baptist Church with the Rev. Johnny Dickerson officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Moore cemetery in Arlington. Arrangements by Hubbard Kelly Funeral Home.
Mr. Ballew never met a stranger and will be greatly missed. Those who met him will be forever blessed. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Crescent Park Baptist Church.
Clifford Coggins
ODESSA — Clifford Lowell Coggins Sr. went to Paradise Monday, Dec. 30, 2002, following a valiant battle with pancreatic cancer. Clifford was born Oct. 5, 1918, in Glencoe, Ark., to John Henry and Alberta Mae Coggins.
Mr. Coggins married
Helen Louise Snow Feb. 6, 1943, in Houston. Following his service in the Aleutian Islands during World War II, Clifford was transferred to the United States Army Air Corps and moved to Midland where he became a Cadet Bombardier Instructor at Midland Army Air Force Base. Clifford was owner and operator of Southwest Sales Company.
Mr. Coggins is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Helen Louise Coggins of the home; his son, Clifford “Sonny” Coggins Jr. and daughter-in-law, Linda Coggins, of Odessa; his daughter, Claudia Mae Hobbs and son-in-law, Tommy Hobbs, of League City; his daughter, Iris Jean Riggs and son-in-law, Kevin Riggs, of Odessa. Preceding him in death were two daughters, Patti Jon Coggins and Wanda Louise Edney.
Mr. Coggins is also survived by three sisters, Thelma Louise Henry of Milan, Tenn., Hazel Earlene Lewis of Midland and Jurlene Violet Warren of Odessa; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Mr. Coggins was also preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Wanda Nadine Coggins, and three brothers, Winford Clyde Coggins, Wayne Dale Coggins and Richard Glen Coggins.
Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 2, 2003, at the Sixth and Jackson Church of Christ with burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Minister Roy Smalling will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice House.
Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Caleb Aguero
ODESSA — Caleb James “C.J.” Aguero, infant, of Odessa died Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2002, at Odessa Regional Hospital.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Antonio M. Gonzales officiating. Arrangements by Sunset Memorial Gardens Funeral Home.
SURVIVORS: Parents, Oscar and Cheri Aguero of Odessa; brothers, Joshua Aguero and Christopher Aguero, both of Lawton, and John “J.C.” Aguero of Odessa; grandparents, Rick and Maude Stains and Eva Romero, both of Odessa; and great-grandmother, Elvira McGuire of Odessa.
Sabas Carrillo
ALPINE — Sabas L. Carrillo, 80, of Alpine, a railroad laborer, died Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2002.
Mass will be celebrated at 3 p.m. today at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church with the Rev. Rick Ruiz officiating. Burial will be at Holy Angels cemetery. Arrangements by Geeslin Funeral Home.
He was born in Terlingua. He was Catholic. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
SURVIVORS: Wife, Francisca Carrillo of Alpine; sons, Sabas Carrillo Jr., Suzano Carrillo Sr. and Manuel Carrillo Sr., all of Alpine; daughters, Virginia Gonzales of Midland, Anna Ramirez of Lubbock, Oralia Escobedo and Rosie Ruiz, both of Alpine; brothers, Jacinto Carrillo Sr. and Calistro Carrillo, both of Alpine; sister, Jesusita Marquez of El Paso; 30 grandchildren; 57 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren.

ODESSA — J.P. “Scooter” French Jr., 56, of Odessa died Thursday, Dec. 12, 2002, at Hospice House.
Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Jimmy Braswell officiating. Arrangements by Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home.
He was Baptist.
SURVIVORS: None listed.
Mancimiana Jaime
MARFA — Mancimiana Jaime, 80, of Marfa died Monday, Dec. 16, 2002.
Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. today at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Mike Alcuino officiating. Burial will be at Merced cemetery. Arrangements by Memorial Funeral Home.
She was born in Valentine. She was Catholic.
SURVIVORS: Son, Ben Jaime Jr. of Marfa; daughter, Amelia Jaime of Marfa; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Gregoria Morales
ODESSA — Gregoria Z. Morales, 85, of Odessa, a homemaker, died Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2002, at Avalon Place.
Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today at Martinez Funeral Home. Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Gilbert Rodriguez officiating. Burial will be at Rose Hill cemetery. Arrangements by Martinez Funeral Home.
She was born in Presidio. She was Catholic.
SURVIVORS: Husband, Francisco Morales of Odessa; brothers, Manuel Z. Rodriguez of Odessa and Reynaldo Z. Gonzalez of Chih., Mexico; and sisters, Elvira Gonzales, Alicia Z. Gonzales and Magdalena Z. Gonzalez, all of Chih., Mexico.
Dora Ramirez
CRANE — Dora Elia Ramirez, 55, of McCamey, a secretary, died Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002, at the McCamey Hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home with the Rev. Duane Gryder officiating. Burial will be at the Crane County cemetery. Arrangements by Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home.
She was born in Fort Stockton. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church.
SURVIVORS: Husband, Lupe Ramirez of McCamey; sons, Chris Ramirez of San Antonio and Jay Ramirez of Odessa; mother, Timotea Esparza of Imperial; brothers, Arturo Esparza of Fort Stockton, Apolonio Esparza and Jimmy Esparza of Odessa, and Freddie Esparza of El Paso; sisters, Aurelia Montoya of Imperial, Socorro Mejia of Temecula, Calif., Emma Bernard of Midland and Esperanza Esparza of Odessa; and three grandchildren.
Virginia Williams
FORT DAVIS — Virginia Jane C. Williams, 73, of Fort Davis died Monday, Dec. 16, 2002.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church. Burial will be at Hillcrest cemetery. Arrangements by Memorial Funeral Home.
SURVIVORS: Son, Michael Williams of Kent; daughter, Tana Stringfellow of Ponte Vedrabeach, Fla.; sisters, Ethal Larson of San Diego and Geraldine Trothero of Richmond, Va.; and three grandchildren.
Ronald Brookover
GLEN ROSE — Ronald Fred Brookover, 55, died Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002, in Glen Rose. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Acton United Methodist Church in Acton. Burial will follow at Acton cemetery.
Mr. Brookover was born Feb. 20, 1947, in Crane. He graduated from Ector High School in Odessa and was a member of the Antioch Christian Church in Odessa. He had resided in Glen Rose for the past two years, having previously lived at the Volunteers of America Group Home in Fort Worth.
Survivors include his mother, Dorris A. Brookover of Granbury; father, LeRoy Ernest Brookover of Glen Rose; and several cousins.
Services are entrusted to Wiley Funeral Home in Granbury.
