Robert ‘Bob’ Louis Stout
ODESSA —Robert “Bob” Louis Stout, 74, a retired Ector County Independent School District employee, career Naval Chief Petty Officer and lithographer passed away Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003, at Parks Methodist Retirement Village after a 20-year battle with Parkinson’s Disease.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Monday, Jan. 27, at Immanuel Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Our Daddy was born to John B. and Samantha Brewer Stout on Dec. 2, 1928, in Marietta, Texas. He was one of five brothers who started their school days in east Texas and migrated west to Hobbs, N.M., where he graduated high school. After high school, he entered the Navy and was married for 28 years.
In his 20-year Naval career, Daddy served in both the Pacific and Atlantic fleets. Daddy retired from the Navy in 1968 and ECISD in 1991. He thoroughly enjoyed his retirement. He and his Second Baptist “buddies” had many projects, gardens and domino games to fill their days. Fishing and playing “42” were his playtime passions.
His relationship with his lord was always most important to him. He grew up in the Baptist Church and was ordained as a Deacon in 1963 in Key West, Fla. During the 33 years that he was an active member of Second Baptist Church of Odessa, he taught Sunday school, served as a deacon (including chairman) and went on mission trips. His fondest time of ministry occurred while Second Baptist was without a pastor, and he ministered to the bereaved and hospitalized.
Special thanks go to all the exceptional people at Parks Methodist Retirement and Home Hospice for all their love and kindness. Especially to Angela, Anne, Blanco, Cheryl, Connie, Elizabeth, Emily, Gillian, Himelda, Jackie and Jackie, Jacob, Joyce, Joseph, Kim, Paul, Sharon, Teresa and Velecia. Thank you, thank you.
His parents; brother, Herman Stout; and sister-in-laws, Lone Stout, Beverly Stout and Edith Stout preceded him in death.
Survivors include sons, Dennis Stout and wife Robin of Van Buren, Ark., and Glen Stout of Madera, Calif.; daughters, Paula Snider and husband Gary of Odessa and Nancy Stout of Odessa; three brothers, Paul Stout of Hobbs, N.M., Herbert Stout of Fayetteville, Ark., and Brady Stout of Odessa; four grandchildren, Jessica Lyles of Austin, Melanie Lyles of Lubbock, Sean Stout and Sarah Stout of Van Buren, Ark; and one great-granddaughter, Abrianna Dement of Austin.
