Beth Campbell
ODESSA — Emily Elizabeth “Beth” Campbell of Odessa passed away Wednesday, June 25, 2003, at Medical Center Hospital. She was 86. Beth was born in India, Texas, on September 8, 1916, to Ferdinand and Martha Hamilton. She married Clifton F. Campbell on August 19, 1933, in Dallas.
Beth always held the tradition that her children and husband came first. She stayed home to provide a haven for her family. After her children left home, she took a job running the business office for a group of neurologists until her retirement.
Beth was an active, outgoing person. She believed strongly in making a good, stable home for her family and emphasized the importance of a Christian walk. Beth loved to travel and did so until six years ago when her health would not permit it. She was also a member of the Pioneer study club, where she served as president.
Beth was a wonderful person and will be greatly missed by all she loved.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 28, at Northside Baptist Church with the Rev. Clydel Chapman officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Services entrusted to Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
Beth is survived by her daughter Shirley Breaux and husband Baxter of Odessa; 6 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; many loving nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and her devoted caregivers Wanda Hill, Anna Rudi and Ali Doporto.
Memorials, in lieu of flowers, can be made to the Northside Baptist Church Building Fund or St. John’s Episcopal School.

Amy Jernigan
MONAHANS — Services for Amy Jernigan will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 28, 2003, at the Third and Dwight Church of Christ, where she has been a faithful member for many years. Greg Holly, Mike Hardaway and Gordon Tamplin will be officiating at the services. Burial will be in the Monahans Memorial cemetery under the direction of Family Funeral Services/Jackie Harkey.
Amy Jernigan was born June 14, 1910, and passed from this life on June 25, 2003. She and her late husband, E. L. Jernigan, moved to Ward County in 1937. Her husband preceded her in death in September of 1972. They had been married between 44 and 45 years at the time of his passing away.
Survivors include the following children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchild. A daughter, Annita (Jernigan) Koke and her husband, Bo, of Monahans. A son, Emmett and his wife, Mary, of Odessa. A grandson, Mike Jernigan and his wife, Mary Jo, and their two daughters, Regan and Landry of Iraan. A granddaughter, Rhonda (Jernigan) Hogan, her husband, Bob, their daughter Shannon and son Neil, all of San Antonio. A grandson, Jay Jernigan, his wife, Anita, and their two daughters, Jordan and Jenna of Monahans. A grandson, Al Koke, his wife, Brenda, of Katy, their son Brandon, his wife Ambyr, and their daughter, Savanna of McKinney, and Al and Brenda’s daughter Courtney (Koke) Brockemeier, her husband, Scott, of Dallas. A granddaughter, Debra Koke of Grand Prairie. A sister, Dadie Parrott of Throckmorton, Texas. A number of nieces and nephews.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Leukemia Cancer Fund or the Missions Fund at Third and Dwight Church of Christ of Monahans, in lieu of flowers.

Phyllis Bartle
ODESSA — Phyllis Bartle, 77, of Odessa, died Tuesday, June 17, 2003.
No services have been scheduled. Arrangements by Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
She moved to Odessa in 2002.
SURVIVORS: Daughter, Sue Marshall of Odessa ; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Howard Byrom
SAN ANTONIO — Howard “Rocky” Herbert Byrom, 81, of Odessa, a supervisor for a freight line company in Louisiana, died Thursday, June 19, 2003, at Avalon Place Nursing Center.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Fort Sam Houston cemetery in San Antonio with the Rev. Joe Walts officiating. Arrangements by Odessa Funeral Home.
He was born in San Antonio. He was Baptist and a Coast Guard veteran.
SURVIVORS: Wife, Brenda Banks Byrom of Odessa.

Guadalupe Cortez
LUBBOCK — Guadalupe “Porky” Cortez, 66, of Lubbock died Thursday, June 19, 2003.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Guajardo Funeral Home Chapel in Lubbock. Burial will be at Resthaven cemetery.
Arrangements by Guajardo Funeral Home.
He was born in Austin.
SURVIVORS: Son, Rodney Cortez of Lubbock; daughters, Alicia C. Flores, Elsie C. Delgado and Debbie C. Guel, all of Lubbock; brother, Pete Cortez of Odessa; sisters, Trine Regino of Levelland, Victoria Soto of Plainview, Alejandra Alcozer of Belton, Marta Leija of Temple and Clemencia Flores of Arlington; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Nicolasa Flores
FORT STOCKTON — Nicolasa S. Flores, 83, of Fort Stockton, a retired cook, died Thursday, June 19, 2003, in Fort Stockton.
Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Sunday at Fort Stockton Funeral Home Chapel. Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Monday at the church with the Rev. Ruben Reyes officiating. Burial will be at Fort Stockton Catholic cemetery.
Arrangements by Fort Stockton Funeral Home.
She was born in Fort Stockton. She was Catholic.
SURVIVORS: Son, George Zimmerly of Fort Stockton daughters, Cynthia Ramirez of Fort Stockton and Rosie Garza of Hobbs, N.M.; brother, Ramon Flores of Fort Stockton nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Irene French
ODESSA — Irene “Little Mama” French, 78, of Crane and formerly of Odessa, a homemaker, died Friday, June 20, 2003, at Crane Nursing Home.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Owen Sharp officiating. Arrangements by Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
She was born in Herring, Okla. She was Pentecostal.
SURVIVORS: Son, Louie French of Odessa; daughter, Lucille Brown Freeze of Monahans; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

James Vaughn
ODESSA — James H. “Red” Vaughn, 70, of Odessa died Wednesday, June 18, 2003.
Services will be at 10 a.m. today at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Griffin Jones officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Arrangements by Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
He was born in Sweetwater and moved to Odessa in 1948. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War.
SURVIVORS: Wife, Donna of Odessa; daughter, Gingi Vaughn of Odessa; son, David James Vaughn of Midland; and four grandchildren.

Hipolito Rascon
FORT STOCKTON — Hipolito Gomez Rascon, 87, of Fort Stockton died Monday, June 16, 2003, in Fort Stockton.
Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today at St. Agnes Catholic Church. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church with the Rev. David Herrera officiating. Burial will be at Fort Stockton Catholic cemetery. Arrangements by Memorial Funeral Home.
He was born Fort Stockon. He was a Army veteran of World War II.
SURVIVORS: Wife, Angelina Galindo Rascon of Fort Stockton; sons, Joel Rascon of San Angelo, David Rascon of Snyder, Daniel Rascon of Sarasota, Fla., and Hipolito Rascon Jr. of Fort Stockton; daughters, Ernestina Sanchez, Criselda Rascon and Susanna Dominguez, all of Fort Stockton; brother, Luciano Rascon of Fort Stockton; sisters, Fernanda Thompson of Littlefield, Candida Salcido, Meregilda Carrasco and Adislada Gutierrez, all of Fort Stockton; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Robert Rothstein
ODESSA — Robert Noah Rothstein, 76, of Odessa, a professor in mass communications, died Monday, June 9, 2003, at Medical Center Hospital.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the University of Texas of the Permian Basin Library Lecture Center No. 001. Burial will be at the Fairmont Jewish cemetery in Denver.
Arrangements by Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
He was born in New York and was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Temple Beth El in Odessa.
SURVIVORS: Daughters, Bonnie Rothstein Brewer of Portland, Ore., and Beth Rothstein Higginbotham of Denver; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Iris Williams
ODESSA — Iris Lorene Williams, 85, of Okmulgee, Okla., a retired Ector County Independent School employee, died Monday, June 16, 2003, at Okmulgee Memorial Hospital.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Rose Hill cemetery. Arrangements by McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee and Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home of Odessa
She was born in Anna, Texas. She was Methodist.
SURVIVORS: Son, Raymond Kennedy of Okmulgee; daughter, Ruth Rameriz of Midland; eight grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Katrina Garrett
ANDREWS — Katrina Garrett, 90, of Andrews died Tuesday, June 17, 2003, in Odessa. Services are pending with McNett Funeral Home of Andrews.

Jack Harrison Smith
ODESSA — Funeral services for Jack Harrison Smith, 70, of Odessa are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at Mission Dorado Baptist Church with Rev. Bob Bratcher officiating. He passed away Thursday, June 19, 2003, at 1 a.m. at Medical Center Hospital.
Jack was born March 5, 1933, in Ohio. He lived in Hobbs, N.M., and worked for Phillips Petroleum Co. for 30 years. He graduated from Kermit High School and played football for the Yellow Jackets.
He married Juanita Smith in Lovington, N.M., March 30, 1968. He has two sons, Bill Jack Clardy and Terry Clardy. Three daughters, Mary Patterson, Patsy Romero and Jackie Aguilar. He was preceded in death by one son, Mike Clardy, and one daughter, Cathy Clardy. He is survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Jack was a very good and kind man who believed in God and his church. He is survived by his wife and children and many friends. He was loved by everyone who met him, and fought his cancer very hard. He put up a good fight.
He will never be forgotten.
