Ormond Neil Jinx Jones
OXFORD, Neb. — O.N. Jinx Jones, 77, passed away Monday, July 14, 2003, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Neb. He was born the third child of five children to Carney Paul Jones and Mrs. Bonnie Myrtle (Huffman) Jones on October 21, 1925, in Oxford, Neb.
Jinx, as everyone came to know him, attended school at Oxford where he graduated from high school with the class of 1943. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps at Denver, Colo. He served with the 2530th Army Air Corps Base Unit Navigation school. He was honorably discharged on June 22, 1945, at Selman Field, Monroe, La., as a Second Lieutenant.
Following his discharge, Jinx attended Kearney State Teachers College in Kearney, Neb. On October 24, 1948, Jinx Jones was united in marriage to Miss Charlotte Pearson in Holdrege, Neb. To this union two sons, Michael Neil and Stephen Paul, were born. They made their home in Odessa, Texas, where Jinx worked for McVean & Barlow Pipeline Construction as a welder and heavy equipment operator. Charlotte preceded Jinx in death on May 15, 1952. Jinx returned to Oxford in the fall of 1952 and became employed at Cinvio Construction and later opened and operated Johnson & Jones Implement with Dean Johnson. In 1958, he became employed as a rural mail carrier with the U.S. Postal Department. On April 6, 1961, Jinx was united in marriage to Miss Sharon Ludeke at St. John’s Lutheran Chuch in Oxford. To this union four children were born, Debora Mae, Gordon Lee, Rhonda Jane and Jeffrey Dean. In 1965, he started farming as well as carrying mail. Jinx retired from the postal service in September of 1985, but continued to farm until his death.
Jinx was a member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Oxford where he was baptized and confirmed in 1962. He was also a member of the American Legion Post No. 219 at Oxford and was a past member of the Oxford Jaycees. He had served on the Oxford School Board and the Fritzer Memorial Hospital Board.
In addition to his first wife, Jinx was preceded in death by two sisters, Hazel in infancy and Helen Lunbery Colburn and her two husbands, Hal Lunbery and “Sarg” Colburn; sister-in-law, Arva Jones; and a brother-in-law, Lloyd Sampson.
He leaves to mourn his passing his loving and devoted wife, Sharon of their home at 301 West Derby in Oxford; four sons, Michael and wife, Ramona, and Gordon, all of Oxford, Steve and wife, Cathy, of Alma and Jeffrey and wife, Toby, of Omaha; two daughters, Debra Einspahr and husband, Keith, of Imperial, Neb., and Rhonda Nielson and husband, Deane, of Nebraska City, Neb.; one brother, Paul “Bud” Jones of Gardendale, Texas; a sister, Virginia Sampson of Orleans; eight grandchildren, Michelle (Jones) Goodon and husband, George, Jason Jones, Nathan, Tara and Lindsey Einspahr, Gavin and Katelyn Nielson and Harper Jones; one great-granddaughter, Breanna Goodon; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 18, 2003, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Oxford with Pastor George Naylor officiating. Burial will be at the Oxford cemetery with military honors by Veteran’s Military Guard of Fort Riley, Kan., and Oxford American Legion Post #219. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Banta-Torrey Funeral Home in Alma and Friday at the church prior to service time.
Memorials may be directed to the Oxford American Legion Dough Boy WWII Statue Replacement Fund.

Tina Lynnett Rains
ODESSA — Funeral services for Tina Rains, 33, of Odessa, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, July 18, 2003, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Rains passed away Tuesday, July 15, 2003, at Medical Center Hospital after a lengthy illness. She was born December 21, 1969, in Corpus Christi to her parents, Robert and Patty Fritzpatrick Jarrett. She was a homemaker.
She was survived by her husband, Ronald Rains Jr.; a son, Larry Rains; and a daughter, Summer Rains, all of Odessa; her parents, Robert Jarrett of Corpus Christi and Patty Jarrett of Whitney; a brother, Trey Jarrett of Whitney; and a sister, Angela Martin of Odessa.
Funeral services are entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

Tryon E. ‘Bud’ Lewis
ODESSA — Tryon E. “Bud” Lewis, age 92, passed away on June 4, 2003 at the Home Hospice Facility in Odessa, Texas. A member of a pioneer West Texas ranching family, Mr. Lewis was born in Ft. Stockton, Texas on April 9, 1911.
His family moved to McCamey, Texas during the Oil Boom of the 1920’s. Mr. Lewis, a gifted athlete, graduated from McCamey High School and later attended Texas A&M University.
He married Erma Lea Beauchamp on March 8, 1941. They had three children: Barbara, Ann Elizabeth “Betsy”, and Tryon D. Mr. Lewis’ occupation in the oil exploration industry took the family throughout the Western United States. The family moved to Odessa in 1952. After Mr. Lewis retired from Great Western Drilling Co., he and his wife moved to Fort Stockton in 1980. They were members of First Presbyterian Church of Fort Stockton.
Mr. Lewis is survived by his wife of 62 years, Erma Lea; by his children: Barbara Southern and husband Tom, Ann Elizabeth Smith, and Tryon D. Lewis and wife, Trudy; by his grandchildren: Wes and Cody Smith, Michellea David, John Wesley Southern, and Eleanor and Annie Lewis; and by his great-grandchildren: Kayla, Wes, and Drayton Smith.
He was preceded in death by his parents Tryon and Myrtle Lewis, his brothers Temple, Ted, and Bill Lewis, and his sister Loise Fields, and his son-in-law Wesley Smith II.
Funeral arrangements are pending with Fort Stockton Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at First Presbyterian Church of Fort Stockton on Friday, June 6th at 10 a.m.

Giles Chadwick ‘Mac’ McAdams
ODESSA — Giles Chadwick “Mac” McAdams, 89, of Odessa passed away Wednesday, June 4, 2003, at Parks Methodist Retirement Village. He was born December 15, 1913, to B.H. and Frances McAdams in San Antonio. He married Elma Bush March 15, 1935, in Lawn, Texas. He began working for Phillips Petroleum Co. October 3, 1938, in Hobbs, N.M. He retired after 40 years of service.
Mr. McAdams was preceded in death by his two sons, Charles Benjamin McAdams, born June 26, 1939, in Santa Anna, Texas, and Giles Rodney McAdams, born Sept. 29, 1943, in Crane.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Elma of Odessa; granddaughters, Frances Jordan of Fort Worth, Paige Torbett and husband, Chris of Irving, Texas, Tana McAdams of Flagstaff, Ariz., Michele Barrow and husband Brandon of Midland; and seven great-grandchildren.
The family will meet with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 6, 2003, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Curtis Brewer officiating. Graveside services will be held at 4 p.m. at the Dewey cemetery in Lawn, Texas.

Robert Neal Cree
ODESSA — Robert Neal Cree, 68, of Kilgore, formerly of Odessa, passed away Tuesday, May 6, 2003, at a Tyler hospital. He was born February 16, 1935, in Mt. Pleasant, Mich., to George and Myra Cree. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, May 9, 2003, at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Robert grew up in Odessa moving here when he was seven. He worked for Marks Crane and Rigging for 16 years prior to owning Cree Crane and Rigging, from which he retired in 1995. He loved nature. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Emma McCann; and brother, George Denver Cree.
He is survived by his wife, Mae Cree of Kilgore; and sons, Dub Cree and wife, Janet, Bobby Cree and wife, Connie, all of Odessa, Terry Cree and wife, Lori, of Orlando, Fla., Bill Warden and wife, Peggy, of Marshall, Ronny Warden and wife, Lydia, of San Antonio and Terry Warden of Midland; daughters, Shirley Stewart and husband, J.E., of Lake Fork and Barbara Mitis and husband, Tony, of Kilgore; brother, Richard Cree and wife, Carolyn, of Fort Worth; 18 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Memorials may be given to American Heart Association.
Services are entrusted to Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.

Laurice Jean Neely
ODESSA — Laurice Jean (Logan) Neely, 72, of Odessa passed from this life Wednesday, May 7, 2003, to rest peacefully in the hereafter with her Lord and Savior. Mrs. Neely was a life-long resident of West Texas and she had many friends with whom she remained close through the decades. She made a sweet and lasting impression on everyone she touched, and she will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
She was a retired gas settlement clerk for Phillips Petroleum Co. and had worked for Phillips for 23 years. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ruby and Paul Logan, and a brother, Billy Logan.
She is survived by some of those most dearly enriched by her presence here on earth, her husband of 52 years, John Neely of Odessa; sons, Dr. Dennis Neely of Midland and Tim Neely of Odessa; daughter, Carol Herrington; grandson, Robert; and great-grandson, Nathan Herrington.
Public visitation will be held from 8 to 9 p.m. on Friday, May 9, 2003.
Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 10, 2003, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David Mitchell officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers an expression of sympathy may be made in the name of Laurice Jean Neely to the American Lung Association, 5926 Balcones Dr., Suite 100, Austin, TX, or www.texaslung.org.

Janet Marie Phelps
ODESSA — Janet Marie Phelps, 57, of Odessa passed away Tuesday, May 6, 2003, at the Covenant Lakeside Hospital in Lubbock. She was born November 24, 1945, in Lincoln, Ill. She was a social worker and a member of Temple Baptist Church.
She is survived by her sons, John Phelps of Fort Hood and Andrew Phelps of Odessa; daughter, Christina Halfacre and husband, Danny, of Odessa; sister, Marcia Lindsey and husband, Jay, of Odessa; and six grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 10, 2003, at Temple Baptist Church with the Rev. Johnny Thomason officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

David S. Reyes
ODESSA — David S. Reyes was born March 27, 1948, in Fort Stockton to father, Leonardo M. Reyes, and mother, Maria Luisa Salazar, who both precede him in death. David was Catholic and a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Friday, May 9, 2003, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 10, 2003, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Frances Frey and Father Bernard officiating. Burial will be at Rose Hill cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Leonor Reyes; two daughters, Amanda Lee Franco and husband, Jesse Franco, and Rebecca Lynn Martinez and husband, Ruben Martinez; four brothers, Leonardo S. Reyes Jr. and wife, Daisy Reyes, Manuel S. Reyes, Ruben S. Reyes and Joe Luis Reyes; three sisters, Angie R. Mata and husband, Julio Mata, Sylvia R. Moreno and husband, Efrain, and Dolores R. Duran and husband, Cruz Duran; four granddaughters, Jessica Lee Franco, Marcela Yvette Franco, Vanessa Lauren Franco and Nevaeh Nicole Martinez; two twin grandsons, Jesse Alexander Franco and David Andrew Franco, all of Odessa.
Services under the direction of Martinez Funeral Home.

Pat Doty
ODESSA — Pat Doty, beloved wife and mother, went to be with Our Lord on Wednesday, May 7, 2003. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and past president of the Women’s Missionary Union and her Sunday School class. She was currently serving as a Board Member of AARP and had held various other positions. She thoroughly enjoyed visiting and laughing with her friends and family and always wanted to be where everyone was gathering. Pat’s sense of humor and outlook on life was refreshing and joyful, and she will be missed tremendously by those who loved her dearly.
Pat was born on December 26, 1916, in Eastland County, Texas, to George H. T. Key and Nettie Wilson Key. She moved to Odessa in 1946 and married Floyd E. Doty on November 21, 1949. In earlier years, Pat and “Doty” traveled across the United States with his job, always enjoying the people and the new and different areas of the country.
Pat is survived by her husband, Floyd Doty of Odessa; brother, Cleo Key of Santa Ana, Calif.; sister, Vuriel Hodge of Oklahoma City, Okla.; and daughter, Elizabeth Faught and spouse, Elton Faught, of Odessa. “Nana” was blessed with six grandchildren, Cynthia Malone and her spouse, Ron Benke, of San Antonio; Doty Brown and her spouse, David Brown, of Odessa; Ginger Mason and her spouse, Jerry Mason, of Calgary, Alberta; Daniel Reed Jr., of Houston; Kathy Switzer, and her spouse, Mike Switzer, of Magnolia; and Krista Reed of Magnolia; and eight great-grandchildren, Keele Miller, and her spouse, Landon Miller, of Temple; Kyle Brown of Odessa; Coleman and Camden Mason of Calgary, Alberta; Dylan and Kaitlyn Switzer, of Magnolia; Emma and Kailee Presley of Magnolia.
Pat is preceded in death by her parents, George and Nettle Key; sister, Georgia Wayne Gronemyer; and son, Daniel Melvin Reed.
Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, May 10, 2003, at The First Baptist Church in Odessa with pastor H. Bailey Stone officiating. Pall bearers will be Elton Faught, David Brown, Ron Benke, John May, L.J. Marrs and Forrest Mathews. Interment immediately follows at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements entrusted to Frank Wilson Funeral Directors.

Rosa Amelia Santoyo
ODESSA — Funeral services for Rosa Amelia Santoyo, 55, of Odessa, are scheduled for noon Monday, July 14, 2003, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Father Gilbert Rodriguez officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill cemetery.
A rosary was said at 7 p.m. Saturday and another is to be said at 6 p.m. Sunday.
Mrs. Santoyo was born June 27, 1948, in Barceloneta, Puerto Rico, to her parents Luis Estela and Rosa Estela Carrion. She passed away, Friday, July 11, 2003, at Medical Center Hospital. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. She married Pedro Santoyo on Sept. 11, 1965 in Chicago, Ill.
She is survived by her husband, Pedro Santoyo; her son, Pedro Santoyo Jr. and wife Maria; her three daughters, Rosa Lopez and husband Juan, Yolanda Ewing and husband Scott and Maria Guadalupe Santoyo, all of Odessa; her sister, Carmen Estela of Puerto Rico; and seven grandchildren.
The family requests that anyone attending the funeral services or rosaries, will not wear black clothing.
