Balente Machuca
ODESSA — Balente P. Machuca, 86, of Odessa, an employee of a billboard advertising company, died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2003, at his residence.
Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Sunday at Odessa Funeral Home Chapel. Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Gilbert Rodriguez officiating. Burial will be at Rose Hill cemetery. Arrangements are by Odessa Funeral Home.
He was born in Candelaria. He was Catholic.
SURVIVORS: Sons, Adan Machuca of Pecos, Alberto Machuca, Valente Machuca Jr., Anthony Prieto, all of Odessa, and Richard Machuca of Arlington; daughters, Senida Lopez, Cecilia Mendes, Celia Soto, Jeannette Chavez, Caroline Vega and Guillermina Pando, all of Odessa; brother, Carlos Nichols of Pecos; 27 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and three great-great-great-grandchildren.

Grace Mason
ODESSA — Grace Mason, 94, of Odessa, a homemaker, died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2003, at Hospice House in Odessa.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Blossom Matthews officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are by Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
She was born in Mitchell County and moved to Odessa in 1937. She was Methodist.
SURVIVORS: Daughter, Vesta Poe of Odessa; son, Larry Mason of Abilene; brother, Clint E. Franklin of Grand Prairie; sisters, Ann Tatom of Dallas and Rachel Jackson of Merced, Calif.; four grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Edith Meurer
CRANE — Edith Meurer, 71, of Crane, a draftsman for Humble Oil Co., died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2003, in the Crane Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today at Resthaven cemetery in McCamey with Minister Gene Klutts officiating. Arrangements are by Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home.
She was born in Strawn.
SURVIVORS: Son, Charles Saxton “Chuck” Meurer II of Arkansas; brother, Maxweldon Sides of Lubbock; and two grandchildren.

Josefa Morales
MULATO, Chihuahua, Mexico — Josefa Morales, 79, of Kermit, a homemaker, died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2003, at her residence.
Mass will be celebrated Tuesday in Mulato, Chihuahua, Mexico. Burial will be at Cemeterio el Mulato. Arrangements are by Family Services Funeral Parlor of Kermit.
She was born in Ojinaga, Chih., Mexico.
SURVIVORS: Husband, Pedro Morales of Kermit; daughters, Emantina Saenz, Marta Emelda Hernandez, Juana Castillo and Irma Morales, all of Kermit, Elfida De La Cruz of Merkle and Elida Rodriguez of Monahans; sons, Pedro Morales and Elinardo Morales, both of Kermit; Isidro Morales of El Mulato, Mexico, and Patricio Morales of Monahans; sisters, Gloria Grado of Roswell, N.M., and Rufina Lujan of Andrews; and brothers, Demetrio Armendariz and Antonio Armendariz, both of Kermit.

Bettie Blackwell
IRAAN — Bettie Jo Blackwell, 76, of Iraan, died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2003, in the Pecos County General Hospital in Iraan.
Services are pending with Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home.

Charles Pat McDaniel
ODESSA — Charles Pat McDaniel, 72, of Odessa passed away at his residence Thursday, Sept. 25, 2003.
Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, 2003, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Rev. Jimmy Braswell officiating. Honorary pallbearers will include: Millard Alexander, Jerry Armstrong, Boyd Hughes, Dawl Johnson, Randy McGuire and Bob Sanford.
Mr. McDaniel was born on Nov. 29, 1930, in Big Spring, Texas, to Charles Hansford Jr. and Opal Patterson. He married Norma Dean Fletcher on July 3, 1954, in Odessa. He attended the Shriner Institute in Kerrville, Texas, and Howard County College in Big Spring. Mr. McDaniel worked for Republic Supply Company for 36 years and retired from Union Supply in 1994. Upon his retirement, he established C. Pat’s Crafts, specializing in handcrafted pens. In addition to woodworking, Mr. McDaniel enjoyed deer hunting.
He was an elder on the Session at Cumberland Presbyterian Church multiple times between 1959 and 2002. He also taught Sunday school, directed the choir and sang in the choir when he was not directing it.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Don Hank McDaniel. Survivors include his wife, Norma Dean McDaniel of Odessa; two daughters, Carra Schneider and her husband, Bobby, of Odessa and Tina Bolton and her husband, Joey, also of Odessa; one son, Charles “Chuck” Pat McDaniel Jr. of Odessa; five grandchildren, Sheena McMillian and her husband, Charlie, of Bryan, Texas, Jordan Richards, Garren Schneider, Joe Bolton, and Sara Bolton; two brothers, Luther McDaniel and his wife, Joyce, of Kerrville and Terry McDaniel and his wife, Kay, of Big Spring; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Odessa. Arrangements have been entrusted to Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.

Bettie Blackwell
IRAAN — Bettie Jo Blackwell, 76, of Iraan, a homemaker, died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2003, in the Pecos County General Hospital in Iraan.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Restland cemetery with the Rev. Mike Wright and Clay Mason officiating. Arrangements are by Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home.
She was born in Westbrook and was a longtime resident of Iraan.
SURVIVORS: Husband, Charles Blackwell of Iraan; son, Mike Blackwell of Lubbock; daughter, Nona Harris of Wink; brother, Robert “Bob” Hartley of Ozona; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Mamie E. Carpenter
FOREST, Miss. — Miss Mamie E. Carpenter, 78, of Jackson, Miss., passed away Friday, Sept. 26, 2003, at G.V. “Sonny” Montgomery Veterans Hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 29, 2003, at Ott & Lee Funeral Home Chapel in Forrest, Miss., with burial at Hillsboro Baptist cemetery in Hillsboro, Miss. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Miss Carptener was a native of Scott County, Miss. She had been a resident of Raleigh, Miss., from 1988 to 1996 before becoming a resident of the Mississippi State Veterans Home in Jackson. She had formerly lived in New Orleans, La., and Odessa, Texas.
Miss Carpenter was a graduate of Boston University in Boston, Mass., and the University of Georgia in Athens, Ga. She taught art in Odessa, Texas, school system and served as chair of the Odessa High School Art Department.
She also served as a surgical technician in the Women Army Corps in World War Ii. She received the American Campaign Medal, the World War II Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal during her service.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilbur and Verna Carpenter, and sister, Margaret Russell.
She is survived by her brother, Herman Carpenter of Forest, Miss.; and sister, Doris Carpenter Hester of Raleigh, Miss.
Memorials may be made to Hillsboro Baptist cemetery Fund, P.O. box 83, Hillsboro, MS 39087.
Services are entrusted to Ott & Lee Funeral Home of Forest.

William Alfred Harries Jr.
BURNET — Memorial services for William Alfred Harries Jr., 88, of Burnet, Texas, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2003, in the chapel of the Edgar Funeral Home with Father Jim Wooldridge officiating the service.
Mr. Harries was born in McAlester, Okla., on Aug. 26, 1915, to William Alfred Sr. and Mabel Rogers Harries and died Friday, Sept. 26, 2003, in Austin, Texas.
Mr. Harries attended and graduated from the University of Oklahoma and married Virginia Blackley on June 15, 1940. He retired from oil field work and lived in Burnet, Texas, until his passing. He was a member of the Episcopal Church. He also lived in Odessa, Texas, for 30 years prior to his retirement.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Virginia Harries; and sons, William T. Harries, Steven A. Harries, Nicholas J. Harries and Daniel H. Harries and their families and numerous friends.
It was his wishes that any charitable contributions be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Euell Ray Holland
CRANE — Euell Ray Holland, 76, of Odessa passed away Thursday, Sept. 25, 2003, in a San Angelo Hospital.
Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 28, 2003, at the Crane cemetery in Crane, Texas. Arrangements are made by Robert Massie Funeral Home of San Angelo.
He was born February 17, 1927, in Brown County and was a retired veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
Survivors include his daughters, Debra De Cesari and Diane Holland, both of California; sons, Dennis Holland and wife, Vicki, of California, Jeff Holland of Kansas and Neil Holland and wife, Cindy, of Washington; sisters, Judy Ritter and husband, Charles, of New Braunfels, Texas, and Jo Henderson and husband, G. C. of San Angelo, Texas; and a true friend, Glenda Scruggs of Odessa, Texas.

Mary June Jones
MIDLAND — Mary June Jones, 80, passed away Friday, Sept. 26, 2003, at Home Hospice in Midland, Texas.
June was born on May 30, 1923, to Harry Y. and Mary Williams Carpenter in Hugo, Okla., where she was reared and educated. She was married to Roscoe O. Miller in 1940, who preceded her in death on August 17, 1942. June married Reginald L. Jones on June 2, 1948, who preceded her in death on January 14, 1975. She enjoyed reading to children at a day care center, arts and crafts, sewing, and visiting with her great-grandchildren. She was a lifelong Baptist, and a resident of Midland, TX, since 1952.
June is preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, and five brothers.
June is survived by five children, Robert A. Jones of Houston, TX, Jeri Hamner and her husband, Charles, of Bedford, TX, Rodney D. Jones of Austin, TX, Jeannie Smith and her husband, Kenneth, of Odessa, TX, and CeCe Mabry and her husband, Scott, of San Antonio, TX; nine grandchildren; Charlsa Hamner, of Plano, TX, Susan Rowell of Southlake, Scott Jones of Austin, TX, Chad Jones of Grapevine, TX, Shane Jones of Austin, TX, Craig Caudle of Odessa, TX, Brad Caudle of Midland, TX, Kent Caudle of Midland, TX, and Shane Simmons of San Antonio, TX, six great-grandchildren; Russell Jones, Katie Jones, Kendyl Rowell, Courtney Rowell, MaKayla Caudle, Brittney Caudle and K.T. Caudle of Midland, TX; one brother, Harry Carpenter and his wife, Doris, of Lancaster; longtime friend, Willard Isham; and many nieces and nephews.
Family will be receiving friends on Monday, Sept. 29, 2003, at Ellis Funeral Home between the hours of 6 and 8 p.m.
A funeral service has been scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2003, at Ellis Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Billy Smith of Trinity Baptist Church of Post, TX, officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Her grandsons will serve as Pallbearers, Craig Caudle, Brad Caudle, Kent Caudle and Shane Simmons. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home.
The family thanks the personnel of Hospice, Dr. Don McLarey, Kent Kelly, Jeanette Frantz, Melissa Portillo, and Christine Puckett, for the compassionate care given to our mother during the last years of her life.
Memorials may be directed to Home Hospice at 901 W. Missouri Ave. Midland, Texas 79701, and the American Heart Association at 3205 W. Cuthbert Suite A-5 Midland, Texas 79701.
