George Lynn Brown
MIDLAND — George Lynn Brown, 91, passed away Monday, November 10, 2003, at Midland Memorial Hospital.
He was born October 9, 1912 in Big Spring, Texas to Fanny and George A. Brown and received his education in Big Spring with two years at Texas Tech. George went to work at Cosden Refinery near Big Spring, and married Clarine Barnaby, a teacher, in 1940. They lived on his farm until he was drafted and given two months to make preparations.
The farm was sold and then he was reclassified and told he must return to a form of agriculture.
In 1945, he moved to Odessa and leased the Parker ranch in Andrews County. He became a supporter of the Farley Boys Ranch, and donated calves to boys in Andrews County for their club projects. After about 10 years when his lease ran out, he managed three ranches for Mrs. Paul Moss until all three ranches were sold.
In 1996, he moved to Manor Park Retirement Center in Midland. He and his good friend, Don Combs, rode the grounds of Manor Park on their electric scooters in good weather, and he won a race and a trophy.
George is survived by his wife, a brother, John W. Brown of Ridgecrest, CA; three nieces and several cousins.
At Mr. Brown’s request, no services will be held after his cremation.
Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home, 801 Andrews Hwy., Midland, Texas.

Jewel Dobson
ODESSA — Jewel Dobson, 82, of Edmond, Oklahoma, passed away November 9, 2003.
Jewel was a resident of Odessa from 1946 to 1986, where she worked and later retired as a registered nurse at Odessa Medical Center.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Doyle D. Dobson, whom she married on February 24, 1940, in Kermit, Texas.
She is survived by a sister, Esda Riley of Odessa; a son, Michael D. Dobson of Edmond, OK; daughter, Joan E. Dye of Edmond, OK; grandsons, Wayne Dye of Edmond, and Chris Dye of San Diego; granddaughter, Astara Dobson of El Reno, OK; great-granddaughters, Audrey Iverson of Wimberly, TX, and Brittany Stack of Edmond, OK; great-grandson, Phoenix Dye of Edmond, OK.
Services will be Thursday, November 13, 2003 at 11 a.m. at Sunset Memorial Chapel with Rev. Mark Bristow officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Arrangements are entrusted to Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.

Bob O’Neal Giddens
LEVELLAND — Bob O’Neal Giddens, age 76, passed away on Friday, November 7, 2003.
He was born on January 17, 1927, in Rochester, Texas, the son of the late Mayes Elmer and Maude Giddens. Bob Giddens was a graduate of Rochester High School, Rochester, Texas. He served in the United States Army during WW II. He was also the owner of Bob O. Giddens, Inc. in Odessa, Texas for over 30 years.
He will join his parents Mayes Elmer and Maude Giddens and sisters, Ada Herron, Minnie Eargle Vernon, and brothers Elmer Dalton ‘Blue’ Giddens, Wilmer Thomas ‘Jack’ Giddens, George Ray Giddens, and Teddy Egan Giddens in that Great Place Beyond.
He will be missed by his daughters, Bobbie Evelyn and husband, Jesse Craig, of Odessa, Texas, Jakey Laverne Giddens of Phoenix, Arizona; sisters Beryl LaVerne Hendricks of Breckenridge, Texas and Ella Mae and husband Alton Burnett of Sundown, Texas; brother Arthur Giddens and wife Lila Bea of Abilene, Texas; grandchildren, James Rocco Gintonio of Omaha, Nebraska, Steve O’Neal Gintonio of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, Traci Yvon Craig of Moscow, Idaho, and Kimberly Jo and husband, David LaScala of Selden, New York; and 2 great grandsons, Nicholas James Gintonio, and Tyler O’Neal Gintonio; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ernie Barr a long time family friend will be officiating at the Services to be held at the George Price Funeral Home in Levelland, Texas, on Friday, November 14, 2003, at 11 a.m. Burial will be held immediately following in the Sundown, Texas, cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Danny Burnett, Jesse Craig, Wilmer Thomas ‘Butch’ Giddens, George Giddens, James Rocco Gintonio, and Steve O’Neal Gintonio. Honorary Pallbearers are Alton Burnett, Jerry Hawkins, and Bill Stewart.

Gifford T. Hemphill
March 15, 1921—Nov. 7, 2003
DALLAS — After a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease, Gifford Tremain Hemphill, age 82, passed away Friday morning, November 7, 2003 at his residence. He was born in Yorkville, Illinois to Harold and Ruth Hemphill. He and Margaret Morris were married on August 11, 1943, in Clovis, New Mexico. Gifford served in World War II reaching the rank of 1st Lieutenant and was a Prisoner of War for 13 months at Stalig Luft 1 in Barth, Germany before being released and honorably discharged. Gifford worked as an artist for the Chicago Daily News and the San Diego Union Tribune and then as an Estimator for Black, Sivalls, and Bryson in Odessa for 30 years. He retired from Shorty Hall Rig Company. He was a lover of life and served as a Scout Master for Troop 48 in Odessa.
Mr. Hemphill is survived by his wife of 60 years, Margaret Hemphill; a daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Jim Hanson of Ovilla; a son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Connie Hemphill of Levelland; a sister, Jean Collins of Los Angeles, California; grandchildren, Carey Smith and her husband, Sterling of Seagoville; Kevin Hanson of Naperville, IL; Tammy and Jared Hemphill of Levelland; and great-grandchildren, Emily, Paige, Patrick, Megan, and Chase. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Marcia Wennmacher.
Gifford was put to rest at the Dallas Ft. Worth National cemetery on Wednesday, November 12, 2003. Any memorials can be made in his name to the National Parkinson’s Foundation.

Tom Richards
ODESSA — Tom Richards, 47, of Odessa passed away Sunday, November 9, 2003 at the Crane Hospital. He was born December 4, 1955 in Dallas, Texas, the youngest of three children to William T. and Euvonne Jones Richards.
Tom was a quiet person, a man of few words. Everyone especially his family knew and loved him for the strong independent truly genuine man he was. He showed his love and concern in a private, but very personal way. Those close to him felt his sincerity despite his lack of words. During changes in his sister’s life, they were always comfortable when Tom was present. They knew he would take care of things with his perfection, integrity and character, they never worried about anything.
Tom was a senior manufacturing coordinator for Cooper Energy Services for 8 years. He was a certified mechanic and a very respected part of the Cooper team. His early years were filled with owning and operating Max Machine, a business he held dear to his heart.
He was completely devoted to his son Keith and the two were almost inseparable, his spare time was spent with Keith and a dirt bike or two. His passion for riding dirt bikes and any other piece of machinery with a motor started very early in his life. Nothing interested him more then being on a trail with good friends or a go cart track racing to the finish line.
Tom spent many happy years with Donny and they shared a special love that most people never experience. They spent a lot of time in Colorado camping in the mountains and going off roading through some tough mountain passes.
He will be greatly missed and his memory will never fade from our minds.
He is survived by his wife, Donny Seaton Richards of Odessa, son, Keith Seaton of Odessa, daughters, Sheena McMillan and husband Charlie of Bryan, TX., Jordan Richards, Brandi Kuykendall and husband Danny and Billi Seaton all of Odessa, father and step mother, William and Marty Richards of Odessa, sisters, Linda Hawkinson of Dallas, Christine Schuessler of Gardnerville, NV., mother-in-law, Frances Bryan of Willis, TX., father-in-law, Don Bryan and wife Margaret of Odessa, sister-in-law, Juanita Ruth and husband Kenneth of Willis, TX.,, brother-in-law, Travis Bryan and wife Torrey of Andrews (3) grandchildren, Dalon Kuykendall, Jaicee Melton and Breanna Kuykendall all of Odessa, many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 12, 2003 at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Stephen M. Nichols
ODESSA — Stephen M. Nichols, born Oct. 12, 1947, in Findley, Ohio, died Tuesday, Nov. 4, at the age of 57 in Odessa, Texas.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7, 2003, in the chapel of Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors with Rev. Jim Ray Brown officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. The family will receive guests from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Mr. Nichols had worked in telecommunications, electronics, real estate, retail sales, law enforcement and opened Nichols Enterprises, a private investigations company, in 1988. Mr. Nichols was a member of TALI, NALI, NCISS.
He was a graduate of Lake Michigan College, Benton Harbor, Mich., and Grand Valley State Colleges, Allendale, Mich. He held Advanced Police Certification in Michigan and was a Master Peace Officer in Texas.
He was active in amateur radio, Red Cross and Skywarn. Mr. Nichols was a live steam rail enthusiast and recently became active in NARCOA, North American Railcar Operator Association.
Mr. Nichols was a member of Fellowship Masonic Lodge #1385 and a Past Master of Goldsmith Masonic Lodge. He was a member of Blue Lodge, York Rite and Scottish Rite.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George D. and Ernestine C. (Hinton) Nichols of Ann Arbor, Mich.; and his brother, A. David Nichols of Cincinnati, Ohio.
Mr. Nichols is survived by his wife, Ann Nichols of Odessa; son, Andrew D. Nichols of Siemach AFB, Germany; daughters, Jodi and husband, John Balstad, of Dallas, and Heather Nichols of Odessa.
Services entrusted to Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.

I. E. ‘Red’ Porter
MONAHANS — I. E. ‘Red’ Porter, 87, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2003, at Hospice House in Odessa.
Red was a pioneer of West Texas and worked in oil related activities all of his life and was a loyal member of the Wagon Masters.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Edith Porter.
He is survived by daughter, Barbara Rowland and husband, Stephen, of Fort Worth; grandsons, Stephen P. Rowland of Lagos, Nigeria, and Shawn A. Rowland and wife, Lisa, of Grapevine; and four great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Hospice House of Odessa, Senior Citizens Center of Monahans, American Cancer Society or Opportunity Workshop of Monahans.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, 2003, at the First Baptist Church of Monahans with Jeff Box officiating. Burial will follow at Monahans Memorial cemetery.
The family will receive visitors from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday at Heritage Funeral Home.
Barbara wishes to thank Red’s many friends, whose love and friendship will always be remembered.
Services are entrusted to Heritage Funeral Home.

Margarita Hinojos
ODESSA — Margarita Orona “Margie” Hinojos, our beloved mother of 56 years of age, went to join our Lord on Thursday, Nov. 6, 2003, after a lengthy illness.
She was a beloved mother, wife and the greatest grandma. Margie was born on April 20, 1947, in Dexter, New Mexico. Margie married Roberto Hinojos on July 2, 1967 in Fresno, Calif. They had four children together, and raised one precious little girl as their own. She was employed at the Lincoln Towers for 10 years; she loved the residents. Her greatest joy besides being a mother was being a grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jane and Frank Orona, and sister, Amanda Aguilar.
Margie is survived by her husband: Robert H. Hinojos Sr. of Odessa; sons, Robert Hinojos Jr. and Tim A. Hinojos, both of Odessa; daughters: Diana V. Lujan and husband Sam of Pecos, Joanna Bolton and Vanessa Hinojos, both of Odessa; brothers, Ernie Orona and wife Elsie of San Diego, Calif., and Fidel Orona and wife Anita of Fresno, Calif.; sisters: Alicia Orozco and husband Alfred and Sally Muniz, both of Fresno, Calif.; grandchildren: Kayley Bolton, Noah Hinojos, Rylea Bolton, all of Odessa, Phillip and Paul Lujan of Pecos; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 9, 2003, at Odessa Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services have been set for Monday at 2 p.m. at Second Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Rose Hill cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Javier Orona, Mauricio Orona, Martin Orona, John Rios, Michael Rios and Jeremy Cereceres.
