Sharon Gwen Stewart Kemp
SONORA — Sharon Gwen Stewart Kemp, 54, passed away Friday, Oct. 17, 2003.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 20, 2003, at First Baptist Church of Sonora with burial to follow in Sonora cemetery. Arrangements by Kerbow Funeral Home.
Sharon was born Dec. 20, 1948, to the proud parents, George Wayne and Alma Parham Stewart.
Sharon began her hairdressing career at the age of 16, when she received her license. She moved to Sonora in 1968 where she worked for Mattie Ruth Garrett and then Maxine Locklin. She then became the proud business owner of the Bright Spot. She had several dress shop partners over the years, Betty Stewart, Margaret Cascadden and Vallree Draper.
Sharon loved her ladies and boy, did they love her. She always felt it was her duty to maker “her” ladies gorgeous. She was a friend, best friend, marriage counselor, a confidante, a mother and anything else that was needed of her.
She is now reunited with the friends and family that have gone on before her, and they are busily rekindling treasured friendships.
Survivors include her parents; her husband, Gerard Bois; her daughter, Brittany Snyder and husband Shannon of Odessa; her son, David Kemp and wife Dawn of Houston; one brother, George Stewart and wife Michelle and their daughter, Rachelle, of California; sister, Laura Loe and and husband Jim and their children, Rebecca and Brian; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Marcos O. Marin
ODESSA — Marcos “Mark” Marin, 42, of Odessa, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2003, at the St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital in Houston.
He was born Aug. 22, 1961, in Monahans to Moises and Manuela Marin.
Mr. Marin moved to Odessa from Monahans in 1963. He married
Janice Yvette Miller April 24, 1981, in Odessa. He was service manager for Odessa Country Club and a Baptist.
He was preceded in death by his son, Joshua Aaron Marin and mother, Manuela Marin.
He is survived by his wife, Janice Marin of Odessa; son, Marcos Marin of Odessa; daughter, Tiffany Marin of Odessa; father, Moises Marin of Odessa; brothers, Esequiel Marin and Ector Marin, both of Odessa; sisters, Margie Acosta and Lisa Cooner, both of Odessa; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 20, 2003, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Cecil Maxey officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
The family requests memorials may be made to Marcos Marin Fund at St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital, Attn: Nancy Chiles, 6900 Fannin, Suite 440, Houston, TX 77030.
Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Benigna H. Saenz
ODESSA — Benigna H. Saenz, 72, a housewife, died Thursday, Oct. 16, 2003, at Permian Basin Dialysis Center in Odessa, Texas. Mrs. Saenz lived in Odessa, Texas, and was previously from Mulato, Mexico.
She is survived by her husband, Jose Saenz; sons, Jose Saenz and Auden Saenz, both of Odessa; daughters, Rosa E. Juarez of Kermit, Elpida Saenz, Elda Molina, Rosario Rodriguez, Margarita Saenz and Maria Rodriguez, all of Odessa; brother, Jose Heredia of Andrews; sisters, Manuela Heredia of Odessa and Maria Dealva of Ojinaga, Mexico; 26 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father, Manuel Heredia; and her mother, Maria Jesus Baeza-Heredia.
She was born Dec. 4, 1930, in Mulato, Chihuahua, Mexico.
Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. today to 1 p.m. Monday at 302 N. Lauderdale Ave.
A rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. today at 302 N. Lauderdale.
Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Gilbert Rodriguez officiating. Burial will be in the Ector County cemetery.
Vera Janik Whitson
ODESSA — Vera Janik Whitson, 79, passed away Friday, Oct. 17, 2003, in Odessa.
She was born Feb. 27, 1924, in Silverton, Ore., to Charles and Anna Janik.
Her parents were immigrants from Czechoslavakia.
Vera married
Raleigh D. Whitson on July 20, 1942, in Long Beach, Calif., later moving to Odessa in 1948. She was active in the Odessa Garden Club, the Pan-American Round Table, the American Cancer Society Board, the Medical Center Hospital Auxilliary, and the Odessa Country Club Women’s Association and Golf Association.
Vera was an avid lover of gardening, classic country music and playing bridge. She enjoyed her time spent with her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, R. D. Whitson; and her parents, Charles and Anna Janik.
Survivors include her daughter, Karen Sue Whitson of Odessa; brother, Stan Janik of Redding, Calif.; sister, Olga Harvey of Lake Oswega, Ore.; two grandchildren, Heather Leigh Snoddy and Craig Whitson Snoddy; her nephew, Douglas Henson; and many other nieces and nephews.
Public visitation will start at 1 p.m. today. Services are scheduled for 4 p.m. Monday, Oct. 20, 2003, in the Chapel of Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Honarary pallbearers will be Craig Whitson Snoddy, Douglas Henson, Clay Wood, Tom Snoddy, and Doug Shelton.
Memorials may be made to Home Hospice.
Services are entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Kathryn York
ODESSA — Kathryn York, 50, went to be with the Lord on Friday, Oct. 17, 2003, at her residence after a lengthy illness. She was born on Nov. 22, 1952, in Fort Worth.
Kathryn moved to Odessa at the age of 3. She attended Cameron Elementary, Crockett Junior High and graduated in 1971 from Odessa High School. While at OHS, she was in the marching band and the Latin club.
She was also a 2,000-hour candy striper at Medical Center Hospital. She served as Emergency Room Chairman for two years, and received a scholarship to attend Odessa College. She also worked for the State of Texas as an AFDC financial worker from 1973 to 1977. She joined First Baptist Church in 1980, worked in Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Acteens and Mother’s Day Out.
She and her beloved husband, Steve, were married
on Nov. 6, 1976, in Odessa. They renewed their vows on their 25th anniversary and the ceremony was performed by their son, Adam.
She enjoyed her children and served as a room chairman for them both for seven years at Pease Elementary. She was also a Cub Scout leader.
Her hobbies include auto racing (Andrettis and Earnhardts); and she wrote racing articles for a short time. She also loved horses, Pomeranians, dolphins, whales and enjoyed visiting the zoo.
Kathryn was a people person and loved helping others.
Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, October 20, 2003, with the Rev. Johnny Young of First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood cemetery in Cisco.
Survivors include her husband, Steve York, of Odessa; and her sons, Jacob York and fiancee Kathleen Robehorst of Grapevine and Adam York of Odessa; brothers-in-law, John York and Ray York, both of Abilene; and sisters-in-law, Ann Eckols and husband Joe of Granger and Susan York of Grapevine; and father-in-law, Kenneth York of Bogata, Texas.
Services are entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Francisco Carrasco
FORT STOCKTON — Francisco Orona Carrasco, 64, of Fort Stockton died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2003, in Fort Stockton.
Services will be at 10 a.m. today at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with the Rev. David Herrera officiating. Burial will be at the Fort Stockton Catholic cemetery. Arrangements are by Memorial Funeral Home.
He was born in Bado de Piedra, Mexico.
SURVIVORS: Wife, Maria Teresa M. Carrasco of Fort Stockton; father, Pedro Carrasco of Fort Stockton; brothers, Luis Carrasco, Pedro Carrasco and Fidel Carrasco, all of Fort Stockton, Manuel Carrasco of Hobbs, N.M., and Ramon Carrasco of Chihuahua, Mexico; and sister, Dulce Nombres Carrasco of Chih., Mexico.
Jim Fornash
ODESSA — Jim Lynn Fornash, 39, of Odessa, a mechanic, died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2003, in Odessa.
Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. today at the Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors Chapel. Arrangements are by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
He was born in Stanton.
SURVIVORS: Wife, LaDonna Johnston Fornash of Odessa; son, Joshua Fornash of Odessa; daughter, Ashley Fornash of Odessa; mother and stepfather, Patsy and W.E. Redd of Rowlett; father, Richard Fornash of Rialto, Calif.; sister, Krestyna Fornash Maples of Odessa; and grandparents, Flo Helen Clemons, Rayburn Moxley, Perry R. Fornash and Ruby C. Fornash, all of Odessa.
Anita Harris
FRIONA — Anita Taylor Harris, 76, of Odessa, a homemaker, died Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2003, at Hospice House in Odessa.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Sixth St. Church of Christ in Friona with Minister Leon Talley officiating. Burial will be at the Friona cemetery. Arrangements are by Blackwell Funeral Home.
She was born in Norman, Okla., and moved to Odessa in 2000 from Friona. She was a member of the Church of Christ.
SURVIVORS: Sons, John Taylor and Jim Taylor, both of Friona; daughter, Diana Williams of Odessa; sisters, Iona Renner of Friona and Kay Renner of Winsboro, La.; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Billie Hobbs
ANDREWS — Billie Hobbs, 67, of Andrews, a former nursing home employee, died Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2003, at her residence.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Second Baptist Church with the Rev. Ivy Shelton officiating. Burial will be at the Andrews North cemetery. Arrangements are by McNett Funeral Home.
She was born in Eastland and moved to Andrews in 1968 from Morton.
SURVIVORS: Husband, Vernie Hobbs of Andrews; sons, Ricky Hobbs, Vernon Hobbs, Lee Don Hobbs and Jimmy Marshall Hobbs, all of Andrews; daughters, Carol Ann Hobbs, Linda Kay Cherry, Katina Russell and Charlotte Garrett, all of Andrews; 23 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
