Sally Peery Searls
ODESSA — Sally Peery Searls passed away Oct. 10, 2003, at Medical Center Hospital.
She was born March 3, 1929, in Odessa, Texas, to John W. Peery and Bernice Peery.
After graduating from Odessa High School in 1945, Sally attended Stephens College in Columbia, Mo. She graduated from Stephens College in 1947. Soon after graduation, she married Robert S. Searls on July 19, 1947. Theirs was a special union that lasted 54 years.
Sally was always active in her children’s lives. For 12 years, she was a Girl Scout leader for many different troops. She held active positions with the Girl Scout Council in Ector County. As a member of the Medical Center Hospital Women’s Auxiliary, Sally volunteered her time and talent.
She was a founding board member of the Abused Children’s Shelter, which is now known as Harmony Home. She was active in the Odessa Country Club, serving as a Past President of the Women’s Association. She also was a member of the OCC Women’s Golf Association.
To all her many friends and acquaintances, Sally was always a joy. She laughed loudly and often. She brought a humorous perspective to any aspect of life. People loved to be around her just to join in on her fun. She was loved and admired by her family.
Her beloved husband, Bob, passed away in 2002.
She is survived by her three children, daughter, Susan Collier and husband Roy, son, John Searls and wife Jennifer and daughter, Linda Neidert and husband Bob. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren, Steven Collier and wife Cindy, Stacy Collier, Lynette Neidert, Robert Neidert, Cort Searls, Pierce Searls and Halston Searls; nephew, Robert Searls and wife Yolanda; niece, Ceci Leonard and husband Jack; family members, Luisa and Jim Searls; and special friends, Nelson Allison, Marion Luper, Pauline Marshall, Paul Cunningham and Mazie Duffie.
Pallbearers will be Boyd Cowan, David Salmon, Jimmy Goates, Tim Edgmon, Pat Campbell and Joe Mac Sanders. Honorary pallbearers will be Harry Bradley, Ted Roden, Paul Cunningham, Bill Fowler, T.J. Barton, B.G. Newberry and Ace Barnes.
Funeral Services will be at 4 p.m. Monday, Oct. 13, 2003, at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Terry Tamplin officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Medical Center Hospital Women’s Auxiliary or Harmony Home.
Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

Adrian W. Wallace
ODESSA — Adrian W. Wallace, of Odessa, passed away Thursday, Oct. 9, 2003, after a long illness.
He was the eldest son of Wanda Richie Wallace and Claude H. Wallace of Kingman, Kan.
Adrian was born Dec. 27, 1925, in Kingman, Kan. After graduation from high school, he joined the U.S. Navy as a cadet in Deck Officers School in St. Paul, Minn., where he graduated as first lieutenant in the Naval Air Force.
After the war, he graduated from the University of Kansas with a business degree. He moved to Odessa in 1948 and was with Bankers Investors before opening Wallace Toyota. After selling his car business Adrian became an investor, wheat farmer and gained an interest in oil and gas. He loved the city of Odessa and his friends.
Mr. Wallace left a living endowment to the University of Kansas and a scholarship fund to Odessa College for furthering education.
Adrian was liked by all that knew him. He leaves his wife, Joan of Odessa; and his brother, George Paul Wallace of Wichita, Kan.; and many good friends, including his good and close friend, James Fogerson.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 13, 2003, at the First Christian Church with Dr. David Mindel officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

Fernando ‘Nano’ Zarate Sr.
McCAMEY — Fernando “Nano” Zarate Sr., 72, of McCamey, passed away Thursday, Oct. 9, 2003, at the McCamey Hospital.
Mass will be celebrated at 3 p.m. today at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Nilo Nalugon officiating. Burial will follow in the Resthaven cemetery in McCamey. Arrangements are with Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home in McCamey.
Mr. Zarate was born Aug. 18, 1931, in Los Evanos, Texas. He had been a resident of McCamey for 59 years. He married Rosa Fuentez on April 16, 1955, in Rankin, Texas. He was a retired oilfield pumper and a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Javier Navarrete.
Survivors include his wife, Rosa Zarate of McCamey; three sons, Luis Munoz and wife Elodia of San Antonio, and Robert Munoz and wife Delma and Fernando Zarate Jr. and wife Linda, all of McCamey; four daughters, Corina Navarrete and husband Roberto, Debra Sanchez and husband Benito and Belinda Cavazos and husband Pedro, all of McCamey, and Norma Crossland and husband Ronnie of Midland; 27 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and one brother, Rubio Zarate Sr. of McCamey.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Michael Navarrete, Robert Munoz Jr., Augustine Cavazos, Benito Sanchez, Cody Crossland and Isaiah Navarrete.

Frances Ann Barnes
ODESSA — Frances Ann Barnes, 90, of Odessa will be remembered by her family and friends as a shining example of what it means to be a loving and giving Christian. She spent her entire life giving to those around her. Our lives have been blessed by her sweet and gentle spirit.
Frances died Sunday, Oct. 5, 2003, at Medical Center Hospital. She was born Sept. 10, 1913, in Tolbert, Texas. She married Milton C. Barnes Aug. 21, 1934, in Vernon. He preceded her in death.
She is survived by her son, Barton K. Barnes and wife, Deanna, of Odessa; daughter, Emelda Smith of Rochester, Minn.; four grandchildren, Karen Perry, Shey Jones, Laura Wilcott and Amy Smith; and five great-grandchildren, Brant Wilcott, Garrett Wilcott, Emily Wilcott, Natalie Wilcott and Shawn Wilcott.
Family will meet with friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, 2003, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 10, 2003, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Rev. Milton Allen officiating.
Family requests memorials may be made to Myesthenia-Gravis Foundation, N.W. Texas Chapter M.G.F.A., Box 1148, Levelland, Texas 79336-1148.

James H. ‘Jim’ Carmichael
RICHLAND HILLS — James H. “Jim” Carmichael, 70, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2003, in Bedford.
Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in Greenwood Chapel. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. in Rio Vista cemetery, Rio Vista. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Greenwood Funeral Home.
Jim was born July 2, 1933, in Rio Vista. He served on the Arlington Police Department for nine years and the Richland Hills Police Department for seven years and retired from the Alcoholic Beverage Commission. Jim was a member of the Arlington Masonic Lodge, dual member of the Richland Hills and Haltom City Eastern Star Chapter, the Scottish Rite and the Haltom City Gun Club.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James and Faye Carmichael; and daughter, Tina Hatton.
Survivors include wife, Louise “Lou” Carmichael of Richland Hills; sons, James W. Carmichael of Springtown, Thomas W. Carmichael of Woodstock, Va., and Ray Hatton of Fort Worth; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and brother, G.C. Carmichael.

Tomas ‘Noodles’ Fuentez
ODESSA — Tomas A. ‘Noodles’ Fuentez, 55, died Monday, Oct. 6, 2003, in Alpine. Mr. Fuentez was born Dec. 29, 1947, in Sanderson, Texas, to father, Celestino Fuentez who preceded him in death, and mother, Rosario A. Fuentez.
Rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, 2003, at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Alpine, Texas. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 10, 2003, at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Alpine with the Rev. Rick Ruiz officiating. Burial will follow at Holy Angel cemetery in Alpine, Texas.
Survivors include his wife, Marla V. Fuentez of Alpine; mother, Rosario A. Fuentez of Alpine; two daughters, Anna Belle Fuentez and Rosa Maria F. Macias, both of Alpine; two sons, Joel Ramon Fuentez of Alpine and Michael Lujan of Fort Stockton; one sister, Francisca Marquez of Andrews; four brothers, Celestino Fuentez of Del Rio, Ramon Fuentez, Adan Fuentez and Abel Fuentez, all of Alpine; and 11 grandchildren.
Pallbears will be Oscar Fuentez, Abel Fuentez Jr., Michael Fuentez, Hector Fuentez, Ricky Marquez and Steve Anzures. Honorary Pallbears will be Erasmo Garcia and Ruben Fuentez.
Services are under the direction of Martinez Funeral Home.

Jose Juarez
ODESSA — Jose Angel Juarez, infant son of Jose Angel and Gloria Ingrid Ulate of Odessa, died Sunday, Sept. 28, 2003.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today at Rose Hill Babyland with Jesus Mercado officiating. Arrangements are by Martinez Funeral Home.
SURVIVORS: Parents; grandparents, Nicolas and Elsa Ulate and Fernando and Olivia Juarez, all of Odessa.

Espiridion Montalvo
SANDERSON — Espiridion R. “Speedy” Montalvo, 74, of Sanderson, owner of an auto body/wrecker service, died Sunday, Sept. 28, 2003, in Big Spring.
Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today at St. James Catholic Church. Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church with the Rev. David Herrera officiating. Burial will be at Santa Rita cemetery. Arrangements are by Fort Stockton Funeral Home.
He was born in Sanderson. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and was Catholic.
SURVIVORS: Wife, Elvira Montalvo of Sanderson; sons, Daniel Montalvo of Midland, Richard Montalvo and Marco Anthony Montalvo, both of Sanderson; daughters, Elizabeth Lara of Fort Stockton, Maria Alicia Ybarra of Big Lake, Susana Gonzales of Marathon, Laura Spencer of Odessa and Catalina Jimanez of San Antonio; brothers, Onesimo Montalvo of Sanderson and Reyes Fuentez of Fort Stockton; sister, Paz Montalvo of San Antonio; 23 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Margaret Ritter
MASTIC, N.Y. — Margaret Ritter, 81, of Mastic, N.Y., a homemaker, died Saturday, Sept. 27, 2003, at her residence.
Graveside services will be today at Calverton National cemetery. Arrangements are by Davin’s Funeral Home.
She was born in Belfast, Ireland. She was Catholic.
SURVIVORS: Husband, William Ritter of Mastic, N.Y.; son, John Ritter of Odessa; daughters, Patricia Ritter of Middle Ireland and Margaret McCulloch of Mastic, N.Y.; and six grandchildren.

Vera Thompson
ODESSA — Vera Mae Hammett Thompson, 75, of Odessa died Monday, Sept. 29, 2003.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Sunset Memorial Gardens in the Garden of Inspiration with the Rev. Clydel Chapman officiating. Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
She was born in Eastland and moved to Odessa in 1956.
SURVIVORS: Husband, Kenneth Wayne Thompson Sr. of Odessa; sons, Kenneth Wayne “Butch” Thompson Jr. and Jack Loyd Thompson, both of Odessa; daughter, Lola Cheryl Thompson Gardenhire of Blackwell; sisters, Eara Faye Weaver and Bettye Jo Davis Snapp; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.
