Leta Baughn

MIDLAND — Leta Baughn, of Midland, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2003.
She was born Dec. 18, 1944, in Hobbs, N.M., and was reared and educated there. She graduated from Hobbs High School and took college classes at New Mexico Junior College. Early in her career, she was a dental hygienist. Leta was vice president of Lee R’s Enterprises Inc., owner of Lee-Co Enterprise and vice president of Teda Inc. She was a member of Ranchland Hills Country Club.
She was preceded in death by her fathers, Ed Sharp and Frank Whitlock; and her grandmother, Nettie Whittington.
Leta is survived by her husband of 35 years, Ted Baughn of Midland; her daughters, Rhonda and RaMona Baughn; her mother, Virginia Whitlock; sister, Donna Burt; brother, Danny Whitlock; sister-in-law, Kay Hudnall; grandmother, Bessie Alderson; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Myrtle and Sandy Sanford; and other family members and friends who loved her dearly.
Funeral services have been scheduled for 11 a.m. today at Ellis Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home, 801 Andrews Highway, Midland, Texas.
Pallbearers will be Harold Fraley, Alvin Ruddock, Paxton LeMond, Bob Chamblin, Bill Black and Mark Burt.

Gordon Byron Holcomb Jr.

ODESSA — Gordon Byron Holcomb Jr., 49, began a new day on Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2003.
Gordon was a proud and outstanding father of four wonderful children, Gordon III, Blake, Janell and Trent.
He was born Aug. 25, 1954, in Sayre, Okla., to Gordon Holcomb Sr. and Loretta Holcomb.
All throughout his life, Gordon was successful at everything he did. Whether it was conquering the baseball diamond as a pitcher and a shortstop in his younger years or managing and owning a radio station later, he was a winner. Whatever the situation was in life, he found a way to make it happen and come out on top. He enjoyed watching all sports, spending time with his family, and watching those around him excel in everything. He was a positive influence, always giving positive reinforcement and highly respected by all those that knew him.
Gordon began his career in Odessa as sales manager at KODM FM98, later becoming general manager. He was the general sales manager at KBAT and also a past co-owner of KCDQ 102. He worked with a number of nonprofit organizations to fund medical research.
Survivors include his children, Gordon III, Blake, Janell and Trent; the mother of his children, Dawn Holcomb, all of Mesa, Ariz.; brothers, Brad Holcomb and wife Mary Ann and Glynn Holcomb; and nephews and niece, Austin, Justin, Danielle and Dalton Holcomb, all of Odessa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Capt. Gordon Holcomb Sr., and Loretta Holcomb.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 1, 2003, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home with the Rev. Jimmy Braswell officiating.
Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

Christine Nastoi

ODESSA — Christine Nastoi, 83, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2003, at Medical Center Hospital.
She was born Feb. 8, 1920, to William and Lille French in Jones County, Texas.
Her parents preceded her in death.
Christine was married to George Nastoi, who also preceded her in death.
She was a waitress.
Survivors include her sister, Rosa Smith of Odessa; two nieces, Cathy Hoffman of Imperial Beach, Calif., and Jenni Gailey of Denver, Colo.; two nephews, Michael Gailey of Clackmas, Ore., and Gerald Benton of Odessa.
Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

John Huffman

FORT STOCKTON — John P. Huffman, 68, of Fort Stockton, a retired assistant foreman with Lone Star Gas, died Friday, Nov. 7, 2003, in Fort Stockton.
Service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Forth Stockton Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ernest Wall officiating. Burial will be at East Hill cemetery. Arrangements are by Fort Stockton Funeral Home.
He was born in Lanark, W.Va. He was Baptist. He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War.
SURVIVORS: Wife, Anelle Huffman of Fort Stockton; sons, Stephen Hardy of Dawson Springs, Ky. and Michael Hardy of Fort Stockton; daughter, Deborah Haiduk of Odessa; sister, Martha Bennett of Jacksonville, Fla.; brother, Jack Huffman of Roanoke, Va.; and five grandchildren.

Barbara Sue Burns

Sue Burns was born on April 12, 1951, in Sweetwater to Walter and Etonne Carter. Sue passed away November 21, 2003, at Medical Center Hospital. She was 52.
Sue spent the majority of her life in Odessa. She was a graduate of the Odessa High School class of 1969. She was an avid rock ‘n’ roll fan. Some of her favorite groups included the Rolling Stones, Fleetwood Mac, Greg Allman and Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Sue collected shot glasses, mini books, and pocket crosses. Sue also loved her pugs and collected anything dealing with pugs. She also loved the outdoors and gardening.
Sue was able to find joy and amusement in the simple things of life. She could find beauty whereever she looked.
Sue is preceded in death by her father, Walter Carter.
She is survived by her longtime companion, Steve Hudson of Odessa; daughters Traci Burns Lee and her husband Rodney of Midland, and Tiffani Burns and her fiancée Weslie Griffith of Odessa; mother Etonne Carte of Odessa; brothers, Johnny Carter of Odessa, Jimmy Carter of Houston, and Jerry Carter of Odessa; sister Carla Roth; her pride and Joy, grandson Tuff Lee; many nieces and nephews; and her beloved BooBoo, Shoney, and Sweetie.
Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 25, 2003, at the Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors Chapel with Rev. Kevin Bushard and Dr. Jimmy Braswell officiating. Services entrusted to Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.

Irene Diamond

DAVENPORT, Okla. — Irene Diamond, age 90, of Edmond, Oklahoma, was born December 6, 1912, in Aurora, Missouri, to Clyde Raymond and Linnie Pearl Berry. Irene was a graduate of Davenport High School in Davenport, Oklahoma. She was a West Texas and Southeast Texas resident during the time that her husband, Arlie, worked for Mobile Oil Co. While in Texas, she was a well-known artist. They then returned to Oklahoma, where they owned Diamond Zorn Rental Co. She was a member of Westwood Church of Christ in Edmond. Irene passed away on November 20, 2003, in Edmond, Oklahoma.
Her survivors include son Gary Diamond of Edmond; daughter and son-in-law Carol and David Zorn of Edmond; sister Virginia Davis Braden of Oklahoma City; grandchildren Stephen Zorn, Clayton Zorn, Whitney Zorn Weeks and Lori Diamond; and six great-grandchildren, Tiffany, Levi, B.J., Cole, Carmen and Luke.
Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Arlie; parents; three brothers; and one sister.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to breast cancer research.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 25, 2003, at Matthews Funeral Home Chapel with internment at 1:30 p.m. at Davenport cemetery, Davenport, Oklahoma.
Services under the direction of Matthews Funeral Home of Edmond.

Doris Hubbard

The Heavenly Father wrapped His loving arms around Doris and took her to be with Him on Saturday, November 22, 2003.
Doris was born in Pittsburg, Kansas, on August 14, 1914, to George and Zettie Stith Dryden. She was the eldest of three children. She was 13 years old when the family settled in Ranger, Texas. It was in Ranger she met her future husband, Seth Hubbard. They were married in May, 1931, and shared the bonds of matrimony for 68 years.
Doris and Seth moved to Monahans in 1933, where they worked and raised a family. Doris worked for Bill Agey at the Prescription Shop for several years.
Later, she was employed by Furr’s Supermarkets, where she progressed from working in the meat market to grocery checker to manager of the drug department. She held the latter position until her retirement. She was active in Business Women of America, and served a term as president of the local club.
Doris relished her retirement years. She was able to spend time with her family in Dallas and pursued her favorite pastime of playing bridge. She was a “Pink Lady” at Ward Memorial Hospital for 25 years.
She was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Monahans. Her church and her faith gave comfort and solace in time of trial and tragedy.
Doris was preceded in death by her beloved grandson, Scott, her son Mickey, and her husband Seth, as well as her sister Betty and her brother Bob. Her memory and legacy lives on in a son Don (Donnie), of the home, grandson Marc Hubbard of Dallas, granddaughter Sandi Hubbard of New York City, and great-grandsons Charlie and John.
Doris will be missed by her family and friends.
A donation in her memory to the Benevolence Committee of the First Baptist Church, or the Church Library Fund would be appreciated.
A celebration of Doris’ life will be held at the First Baptist Church of Monahans on Monday, November 24, 2003, at 2 p.m. Doris will be laid to rest with her son and grandson in Restland Memorial Garden (Forest and Greenville) in Dallas, on Tuesday, November 25, 2003, at 10 a.m.
Services under the direction of Family Funeral Services/Jackie Harkey.

Clyde Wallace Yarbrough

Clyde Wallace Yarbrough passed away on November 20, 2003, after a brief illness.
Mr. Yarbrough was born on June 13, 1921, in Clyde, Texas. He graduated from Baird High School in 1939. He was a member of the Texas A&M Class of ’43, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering. He was commissioned into the United States Army as a 2nd Lieutenant with the 159th Combat Engineer Battalion, Company A. He served in the European Theater of Operation during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1946 having achieved the rank of captain. He married Lula Mae Asbury in 1944. He served as the city engineer for the city of Odessa during the late 1940s.
Mr. Yarbrough was a strong business and civic leader for Odessa. He founded and served as CEO of Area Builders, Inc., a commercial building construction company and Clyde Construction Co., Inc., an oilfield and pipeline construction company. He also founded 42 Area Central, a commercial real estate development company.
During his many years of civic service and business leadership Mr. Yarbrough served on the board of directors of the First National Bank, Odessa Savings & Loan Association, Odessa Jazz Association, Odessa Industrial Development Corporation, the Odessa Country Club, the Salvation Army, and the Industrial Foundation of America.
He also served for many years on the Colorado River Municipal Water District Board and contributed to the planning and construction of the O.H. Ivie reservoir.
He is survived by three brothers: Bill Yarbrough of Abilene, Carl Yarbrough of Clyde and Don Yarbrough of Levelland. He is also survived by three children: his daughter Dianne Kluck of Dallas, Dan Yarbrough and wife Janice of Odessa, and Keith Yarbrough and wife Mary of Odessa; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A memorial service will be held at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, 6801 E. Highway 80, Odessa on Monday, November 24, at 2:00 p.m.

Richard Kendall Dotson

ODESSA — Richard Kendall Dotson went to be with the good Lord on Monday, November 17, 2003, at 7:30 p.m. at the age of 47. He died due to complications from a traffic accident.
He was a beloved son, brother, husband, uncle and stepfather.
Richard was born and raised in Odessa. He went to school here and graduated from Permian High School in 1973. He was with TOPS, The Moose Lodge, the American Legion, a lifetime member of VFW and taught ceramics at the Northside Senior Citizens Center. He was an artist/sculptor by trade.
He had many friends and never knew a stranger. His smile brightened the room when he entered it.
Richard and Gloria were married August 31, 2002, in Poetry, Texas. They had met each other through a TOPS State Convention meeting. They moved to Porter, Texas.
He is survived by his wife; his father Carl N. Dotson Sr. of Odessa; his brother Carl N. Dotson Jr. and wife Judy of Olton, Texas; his sister, Mary Carldene Thurman of Odessa; and his stepsons, Dave Haskins and wife Gina of New Caney, and Neal Haskins and wife Laura of New Caney, Texas.
He has four nephews, two nieces, four step-grandchildren and one great niece, a number of cousins and Aunt Rowena Nunn of Amarillo, Texas.
Memorial services are scheduled at Odessa Funeral Home, Saturday, November 22, 2003, 1700 N. Jackson at 5 p.m. in the chapel.
The Rev. Jimmy Hull will be officiating.
