Donald Earl Rardin

ODESSA — Funeral services for Donald Earl Rardin, 50, of Odessa are scheduled for 2 p.m Saturday, Aug. 30, 2003, at Odessa Bible Church with the Rev. Craig Kirkpatrick and Pastor Bob Thayer officiating.
The family will receive visitors at Hubbard-Kelly from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday.
Mr. Rardin went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Aug. 28, 2003, at Hospice House.
He was born Oct. 28, 1952, in Alamogordo, N.M., to his parents, Blackie and Jaunice Rardin.
He was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather. He was committed to serving God, his family and his community. He instilled in his family a deep love for the Lord and Christian values. He was an Elder at Odessa Bible Church, where he and his family attended for 20 years, and was the owner of Odessa Cash Registers.
He was survived by his wife of 27 years, Delie; his son, James Rardin of Odessa; four daughters, Janet Lewis and husband, Hunter, Kristin Rardin, Andrea Rardin and Debbie Rardin, all of Odessa; his parents, Blackie and Jaunice Rardin of Alamogordo, N.M.; four brothers, Tommy Rardin, Johnny Rardin and wife, Linda, Ronny Rardin and wife, Bridgette, and Jerry Rardin and wife, Tammy, all of Alamogordo; two grandchildren, Meagan and Heath Lewis, both of Odessa; and many friends and loved ones.
Funeral services are entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

Filomena Lebario

ODESSA — Filomena Lebario, 93, of Odessa, passed away Nov. 7, 2003, at Avalon Place.
She was born in Presidio Feb. 8, 1910, to Fellippe Gomez and Leonarda Porras. She was a Catholic and a homemaker.
She is survived by sons, Cirilo Lebario and wife Alicia of Odessa, Francisco Lebario and wife Lori of Odessa and Hector Lebario and wife Anita of Silver City, N.M.; daughters, Manuela Mata and husband Paublo of Phoenix, Ariz., Alejandra Zapata of Phoenix and Lucy Pena and husband Fidel of Odessa; 27 grandchildren; 62 great-grandchildren; and 38 great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Ben Pena, Ricky Pena, Fred Lebario, Ector Lebario Jr., Tony Zapata and Manuel Zapata.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel where she will be instate.
Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 10, 2003, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Barstow cemetery.
Services by Odessa Funeral Home.

Bennie Carl Lankford

ODESSA — Bennie Carl Lankford, 63, a retired engineering maintenance technician, died Friday, Oct. 24, 2003, at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas. Mr. Lankford was a resident of Odessa, Texas, for a long time.
Ben was born Jan. 31, 1940, in Sweetwater to the parentage of Clarence and Vergie Linder-Lankford.
He was a United States Navy Veteran and was honorably discharged.
He is survived by his wife, Lanis; sons, Norman Tankersley of Mineral Wells and John Brent of Mineral Wells; daughters, Candiae Lujan and husband, Henry Lujan, of Odessa and Denise Flowers of Mineral Wells; brothers, Phillip Lewers of Lake Wells, Fla., and Ed Costello of Crawley; sisters, Majorie Lewers of Lake Wells, Fla., and Dean Graham of Odessa; grandsons, Scott Tankersley of Mineral Wells and Aaron Tankersley of Mineral Wells.
He was preceded in death by his father, Clarence Lankford, and his mother, Vergie Linder Lankford.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday at Martinez Funeral Home.
No services are scheduled.

Roy Neal McKenzie

McCAMEY — Roy Neal McKenzie, 82, of Pecos County, passed away Saturday, Oct. 25, 2003, at his home.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2003, at the Flying V Ranch with Reverend David Neal McKenzie officiating. Arrangements are with Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home.
Mr. McKenzie was born on Oct. 6, 1921, in Fort Stockton, Texas. He was the third child of seven born to pioneer ranchers Mary Lea Thomson McKenzie and Cleo R. McKenzie. He spent most of his life ranching in Pecos County. Mr. McKenzie was a World War II Veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Mickie, of fifty one years; three brothers, Bill Ed of Kerrville, Gregg of Fort Stockton and L.B. of Odessa; a sister, Virginia Chapman of Ballard, Texas; three sons, Dee Sims of Veribest, Rex and Jack of San Angelo; three Daughters; Marilyn Barrow of San Angelo, Linda Webb of Muenster and Jody Ozier of Wichita Falls; and a foster son, Joey Gaitan of Odessa; 13 beloved grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, C.R. and Bruce McKenzie; a son, Neal; a granddaughter, Shanna Lea Ozier; and a great-grandson, Caleb Frierson.
Pallbearers will be Gregg Fairbank, Kirke McKenzie, Ted McKenzie, Larry McKenzie, Dan Jaeger and Marsha Riggs.
Honorary pallbearers will be all nephews and nieces whom Roy Neal loved very much.

Eugene Norman Smith

ABILENE — Eugene Norman Smith, 82, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, died Monday, Oct. 27, 2003, at an Abilene medical center.
Mr. Smith was born to Monroe and Pearl (Rambo) Smith on April 30, 1921, in Oakalla, Texas. He was a plant and field superintendent for Phillips Petroleum, retiring after 44 years. He moved from Odessa to Abilene ten years ago.
He married Una Langford on August 21, 1939, in Mertzon, Texas. Mr. Smith was a U. S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.
He was predeceased by his parents and a sister, Marie Grubb.
Survivors include his wife, Una Smith of Abilene; two sons, Jerry E. Smith of Lafayette, La., and Jon B. Smith and wife, Venita, of Lovington, N.M.; two daughters, Ann Dye and husband, Ed, of Abilene, and Jane Summers and husband, Barry, of Aledo, Texas; a brother, Kenneth Smith of Mentone, Texas; a sister, Faye Hudson of Ozark, Ark.; four grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 542 Hickory, with Rev. H. G. Barnard officiating. Burial will follow in Ross cemetery in Baird. A viewing will be from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to American Heart Association, 149 N. Willis, Abilene, TX 79603.

Terrell Jeff ‘T.J.’ Whitley

ODESSA — Terrell Jeff “T.J.” Whitley, 91, passed away Sunday, Oct. 26, 2003, at his residence. He was born December 1, 1911, to W.H. and Addie Whitley in Mills County, Texas.
T.J. came to Odessa in 1935. He was a pumper in the oil industry, retiring from Fina in 1974. He served in the National Guard and is a member of Sherwood Church of Christ.
His wife of 62 years, Ina Lou Whitley, preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death are his parents, a grandson, Jeff Turley; brother, Edgar Whitley; sister, Annabell Hankins, and grandparent, J.D. Whitley.
Survivors include his wife, Ethel Whitley of Odessa; step-sons, Russell Johnson of Odessa, Paul Johnson and Marion Johnson, both of Amarillo; daughter, Linda Moyers of Odessa; step-daughters, Jeanette Hamil of Odessa and Patty Stone of Lubbock; sister, Louise Miller of Anchorage, Alaska; grandson, Jim Turley; and great-grandchildren, Chris Turley, Jenica Turley and Julie Turley.
Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2003, at Sherwood Church of Christ with Lynn Money officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

Nellie Porter Nelson

ODESSA — Nellie Porter Nelson, 94, a long-time resident of Odessa passed away Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2003, at Seabury Nursing Center after a lengthy illness.
She was born Dec. 5, 1908, in Altus, Okla. She was a homemaker and a member of Wesley Evangelical Methodist Church. She had worked in the nursery at First United Methodist Church for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wiley Newton Porter.
She is survived by her daughter, Janelle Lethgo and her husband, Buster, of Odessa; brother, Raymond Pendergrass of Las Vegas, Nev.; and granddaughter, Carrye Ann Lethgo, of Garland, Texas.
The family would like to especially thank the staff at Seabury Nursing Center.
The family will meet with friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at the Lowell-Tims Funeral Home in Altus, Okla.
Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, 2003, at the Altus City cemetery in Altus, Okla., with Rev. Sonny Tims officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Home Hospice or the American Cancer Society.

Nell Broughton

ABILENE — Mamie Nell Broughton, 94, passed away Thursday, Oct. 23, 2003, at an Abilene assisted living facility where she has lived the past three years.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 27, 2003, at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Odessa with the Rev. Johnny Young officiating. Arrangements are by Girdner Brown Funeral Home of Abilene.
Nell was born Dec. 23, 1908, in Weatherford, Texas, to Lyman Leon Blackstock and Annie Elise Harrison Blackstock. After her family moved to Gomez, Nell attended Texas Tech College, where she earned her bachelor’s degree. At 19, Nell taught school in a one-room schoolhouse in Plains. She continued teaching in different area schools until she married Charles S. Broughton Sr. on June 18, 1938, in Lubbock. They settled in Odessa at that time, where they raised their three children, and Nell taught private piano. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Odessa Music Study Club, Past Presidents Club, Democratic Women, the Pioneer Study Club, the Writer’s Club, Texas Tech Alumni Association and the Odessa Old Timers Reunion.
Mrs. Broughton was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; sister, Lucille Shinn; and brothers, Paul Blackstock, L.L. Blackstock Jr. and Bill Blackstock.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, Charles and Pat Broughton of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, David and Stephanie Broughton of Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada, and Sophie and Joel Edwards of Abilene; and nine grandchildren, Sara Broughton, Lisa Broughton, John Broughton, Kesten Broughton, Jamin Broughton, Joel T. Edwards, Ben Edwards, Rachel Edwards and David Edwards.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Door of Hope Mission in Odessa, First Baptist Church Library in Odessa or St. John’s Episcopal School in Abilene.

Ann Hocutt

ODESSA — Darlene Ann Hocutt, age 68, of Odessa, passed away on Oct. 24, 2003, at Medical Center Hospital.
Ann was born Aug. 24, 1935, in Omaha, Neb. She married William E. Hocutt on Oct. 9, 1960, in Minnesota. She and her husband were truck drivers. He preceded her in death. She was a resident of Sherwood Place in Odessa.
Survivors include her children, Glen Hocutt and wife Kathleen of Odessa, Brenda LaBeau of Chandler, Ariz., Vicki Casteel and husband Kurt of Peoria, Ariz., Joe Hocutt, Margie Black and husband Danny of Vernon, Ala. and Wayne Hocutt and wife Peggy of Carrollton, Ga.; grandchildren include Tracy, Jennifer, Matthew, Zackary, Lane, Ana, Tony, Amanda, Angie, Jason, Jeanine, Peggy, Kevin and Michelle; and great-grandchildren; Ashton, Ethan and Zac.
Special thanks to Sherwood Place, MCH ICU and the doctors, nurses and others who cared for her during her illness.
In loving memory of our mother, friend and grandmother, you will be greatly missed. Thank you for the joy you brought into our lives. We will always remember you with great love. You are now at peace in the loving hands of the Lord.
Memorial services will be held at a later date in Phoenix, Ariz., at the Phoenix Memorial Park. Services are entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

John Dewayne Hodges

ODESSA — John Dewayne Hodges, 56, of Odessa, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2003, at Medical Center Hospital.
Mr. Hodges was born March 8, 1947, in Burleson, Texas to Glen Hodges and Ella Pearl Green (Hodges). He married Melissa Herring, Sept. 25, 1992, here in Odessa. He was a Christian/ Baptist, a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War, and he owned and operated a rig as a truck driver.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Ella Pearl Green (Murray); and son, Timmy Ray Hodges.
He is survived by his wife, Melissa Hodges of Odessa; daughter, Michelle Taylor and husband Tony of Odessa; sister, Mary Ellen Munson of Corpus Christi; five grandchildren, Ashley and Jessica Taylor, both of Odessa, Sabrina Hodges of Odessa, Kaydnn Hodges of Midland and Misty Hodges of California; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, and especially lots of friends.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Odessa Funeral Home.
Services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, Oct. 27, 2003, at Odessa Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jess Little officiating. Interment will follow at Rosehill cemetery.
