Ray ‘Raydio’ Garrett

ODESSA — Ray “Raydio” Garrett, age 59, of Odessa, passed away Friday, Feb. 20, 2004, in Odessa.
Ray was born July 23, 1944, in Carmi, Ill., to Luther and Vaudie Stover Garrett. He had lived most of his life in Odessa and graduated from Ector High School. He attended Texas Tech University on a football scholarship. Ray owned and operated AAA Septic Service and was a member of West University Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his father; and a brother, Larry Wayne Garrett.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Jo of Odessa; three daughters, Chayla, Gina Garrett and Kristi Williams, all of Odessa; one son, Adam Garrett; mother, Vaudie Garrett; one sister, Lou Ann Allen of Odessa; and two brothers, John Garrett of Odessa and Frankie Garrett of Alaska.
Funeral Services have been scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2004, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Services entrusted to Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.

Brent Roberts

ABILENE — Brent Roberts, 37, a licensed vocational nurse with Abilene State School, died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2004, in Plano.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church in Ballinger with Lynn Starnes and the Rev. Bobby Broyles officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen cemetery. Services entrusted to Thompson’s Harveson & Cole Funeral Home of Fort Worth.
Should friends desire, memorials may be given to West Texas Boys Ranch, 10223 Boys Ranch Road, in San Angelo.
Brent Roberts was born June 17, 1966, in Fort Knox, Ky. He was a graduate of Abilene High School and West Texas School of Nursing.
Survivors include his wife, Ranea of Lubbock; son, Derek Lee Roberts of Abilene; father, Ray Roberts and his wife, Carolyn, of Wolfe City; mother, Lenda Starnes of San Angelo; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin M. Roberts of Odessa; maternal grandmother, Evelyn Batchelor of Ballinger; and extended family and friends.
We have lost the light of our lives.

Rose Marie Adams

ODESSA — Rose Marie Adams, 77, of Odessa, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2004, at Medical Center Hospital.
She was born May 22, 1926, in Dallas. She married Horace Trenton Adams April 5, 1953, in Odessa. He preceded her in death Sept. 7, 1984. She was a retired secretary and had worked for Webb-Davis Wholesale Co. She was Catholic.
She is survived by her daughter, Katherine Lee and husband Billy of Odessa; two grandchildren, Audrey Breithaupt and Mary Breithaupt, both of Odessa.
Mass will be celebrated at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, 2004, with the Rev. Mark Woodruff officiating.
Interment will follow at the Odessa cemetery.
Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

Kyle Bearden

SAN ANGELO — “I will sing to the Lord as long as I live” Psalms 104:33.
Those who knew Herman Kyle Bearden knew that gospel music was one of his great loves. Some of his happiest times were singing with his wife Velma and their three daughters. Family gatherings always evolved around the piano, doing what he and Velma loved most, singing and laughing, making wonderful memories.
Kyle was born to James and Thelma Bearden on January 13, 1936, in Levelland. They eventually moved to Odessa, where he met and married Velma Schlemeyer on June 1, 1956. Kyle and Velma moved to Corpus Christi, where he attended the University of Corpus Christi. He held many coaching positions at various high schools in Texas, and always had fond memories of his coaching days. He eventually moved back to Odessa and worked as a salesman in the oil field.
Kyle was a joy to be around. He always had funny stories to tell to anyone who would sit down and drink a cup of coffee with him.
Kyle was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Velma and his precious daughter Lura An Friemal.
Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Kyla and Jay Newan of Corpus Christi and Shara and Troy Laird of San Angelo. He was a very special Grandpa to his nine grandkids, Kyle, Cody, Loenya, Zachary, Derek, Leah, Hannah, Caleb and Canaan.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2004, in Johnson’s Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Leighton Bearden officiating. Graveside services were at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2004, at the Post Oak Memorial cemetery in the Athens area.

Oscar Baeza Fuentes

MONAHANS — Oscar Baeza Fuentes, 49, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2004, in Monahans, Texas.
He was born Sept. 6, 1954, in Alpine, Texas. He married Judy Fuentes July 4, 1978, in Midland, Texas. He was independently employed as a paint contractor.
Survivors include his wife, Judy Fuentes of Monahans; a son, Dustin Fuentes of Monahans; and a daughter, Nicolette Fuentes and fiance, Nick Cervini, both of Grand Prairie. Also his parents, Angel and Socorro Fuentes of Monahans; two brothers, Angel R. Fuentes and Frank R. Fuentes, both of Monahans; and two sisters, Lupe Sotelo of Odessa and Evangelina Rodriguez of Garden City, Kan.
Services are set for 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, 2004, at St. John Catholic Church with Father John Lucido officiating. Rosary is set for 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13, 2004, at St. John Catholic Church. Burial will be at Monahans Memorial cemetery.
Services are under the direction of Family Funeral Services/Jackie Harkey.

Christine Ellen Kinser

ODESSA — Christine Ellen Kinser, of Odessa, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2004, at the age of 52.
Christine was born on Sept. 17, 1951, in Fort Branch, Ind., to Burton and Rosemary Wilhite. She married Dan C. Kinser on March 20, 1981 in Bryan, Texas, later moving to Odessa. She was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Odessa.
Chris, a loving mother and wife, was a wonderful foster parent to numerous foster kids. She showed and shared enough love for every child on this earth.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Burton and Rosemary Wilhite; and a brother, Jeff Wilhite.
She is survived by her husband, Dan C. Kinser of Odessa; daughter, Geri E. Kinser of Odessa; brother, Greg Wilhite of Offerman, Ga.; brother, Ted Wilhite of Brandon, Miss.; sister, Charlotte Hulfachor of Oakland City, Ind.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A family visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, 2004, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Father Mark Woodruff officiating.
The family requests memorials be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
Services are entrusted to Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.

Mabel N. Wheeler

ODESSA — Mabel N. Wheeler (Mam-ma), beloved mother and grandmother, went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2004, at the blessed age of 90 while being lovingly cared for at the Hospice House of Odessa.
Mabel was a longtime resident of Odessa and a member of Temple Baptist Church. She was a past member of the Northside Senior Center Dance Club where she enjoyed country and western dancing into her 80s. She was a quiet lady with a sweet and loving spirit and kind and gentle ways. She was a hard worker, owning and independently operating a landscape service until her retirement in the mid-1980s. She was proudly independent.
Mabel always put others before herself, and she had an especially tender heart toward children and animals. She had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh.
She remained “young at heart, ” (39, according to her) for many years!
She was born to Louis A. Witten and Myrtle Goddard Witten on November 8, 1913, in Mountain View, Oklahoma. She married Oscar E. Wheeler on July 29, 1939; they had one daughter, Gail, who was the pride and joy of her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Alice Copeland and Della Bowerman, and her husband, Oscar Wheeler, who died in 1971.
She is survived by her daughter, Gail Gable Pool of Odessa; granddaughter, Tammy Hendricks and husband Steve of Odessa; grandson, Greg Gable and wife Shannon of Arlington; and her great-grandchildren, Tyler and Holly Hendricks, both of Odessa.
Mabel lived a life that seemed simple, but it was a life of significance and a great example of hard work, kindness, independence, selflessness and love.
We will miss her dearly on this earth, but we have great joy in knowing that she is now strong again and we will see her soon in Heaven.
Family will meet with friends 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13, 2004, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
A graveside service will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, 2004, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Kyle Rodgers officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice House of Odessa or Temple Baptist Church.
Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

James ‘Dumps’ Williams

ODESSSA — James ‘Dumps’ Williams was born on Oct. 14, 1926, in Bronte, Texas, to Roe and Mae Williams. Dumps passed away Thursday, Feb. 12, 2004, at Hospice House in Odessa. He was 77.
Dumps attended schools in Bronte and Colorado City. He graduated from Central High School in San Angelo in 1944. After school, he joined the US Navy during WWII. Upon his discharge from the service, he attended Sul Ross University where he played Basketball. He graduated from Sul Ross in 1950.
Mr. Williams accepted a coaching/teaching job with ECISD where he remained until his retirement in 1985. He coached basketball and taught Texas History at Bowie and Bonham Junior Highs and was known as a Texas history buff.
James loved his wife, Gay. They were married in 1955 in Ranger, Texas, and shared 48 wonderful years together.
Dumps loved his church, Crescent Park Baptist, where he had been a member since 1958. Through the years, he served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, department director, trustee, choir member, and was a member of the pastoral search committee that brought Dr. Johnny Dickerson to Crescent Park. He had a special heart for church visitation and ministry to the ill and elderly. His ministry will be missed.
He is survived by his wife, Gay; two daughters, Rhonda Lough and husband, Shane, of Odessa and Tami Gillum and husband, Jeff, of Waco; three grandchildren who were the love of his life, Shannon Lough, Landon Lough and Samuel Gillum; and a nephew, Tom Williams of Portland, Ore.; many relatives and a host of good friends.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, 2004, at the Bronte cemetery in Bronte. A memorial Service will be held at 4 p.m. that afternoon at Crescent Park Baptist Church, 3002 E. University Blvd., in Odessa. Visitation will be Friday at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Crescent Park Music Ministry.
Services entrusted to Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
