Nelda Kay Ball Scott

ODESSA — Nelda Kay Ball Scott was born on May 8, 1948. She passed from her earthly garden and went to her eternal heavenly home on Saturday, June 12, 2004.
Nelda was born in Dickens County to Floyd and Dorothy Ball. She moved to Odessa with her family in 1956. Nelda graduated from Odessa High School in 1966. She was the 1966 senior class president. In November of that same year she married Robert Terry Scott and they graduated from Southwest Texas University in 1970.
Our precious wife, mother, daughter, sister, mother-in-law, Grammy and friend went home to be with the Lord. Words cannot express our deep sorrow at the void left behind, but we rejoice knowing that she is home — right where she has always wanted to be.
Her life was spent serving others, just as Christ taught. Those who knew her, knew her kindness, compassion, dedication, loyalty and love. She never hesitated to help when she could.
She loved gardening and sewing, but most of all she loved her friends and family. Her husband, Terry, of 38 years was the love of her life, her high school sweetheart and a true gift from God. She loved her daughters, Cristy Diana Batte and Kelly Deanne Weaver. Nothing made her happier than spending time with her children and their families. Her blessed grandchildren were an endless source of pleasure for her. She was the best Grammy ever!
Her passionate love for family spurred her to volunteer her time at Birthright, an organization dedicated to protecting the unborn. She gave of her time freely, always willing to listen and pray. She was a true prayer warrior on behalf of all who asked and many who did not. Numerous lives were touched and changed by her prayers.
She loved her church and always served graciously in whatever way was needed. She had friends and loved ones too numerous to count. Each one is immensely better for having known her. Her joy was contagious. She was a pillar of strength and wisdom. Her Godly wisdom far exceeded her years and flowed from the hours she spent in prayer and study. She was an inspiration to all who were blessed to know her and more than anything she wanted people to know and love her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
She is survived by a loving family: her faithful husband Terry and cherished daughters Cristy Batte and Kelly Weaver. She forever changed the stereotypical definition of mother-in-law. Her two sons-in-law, Blake Batte and Dan Weaver, not only loved her but admired her as well. Those who called her Grammy are Alix and Abby Batte and Nikita and Nate Weaver. She was a devoted daughter to Floyd Ball and supportive sister to Edgar Ball. She is rejoicing in heaven with her Mother, Dorothy Ball.
The family will receive visitors at Sunset Memorial from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday evening. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 16, 2004, at Immanuel Baptist Church. Memorials may be made to Birthright of Odessa.
