Emma Leona Hooper

CRANE — Emma Leona Hooper, 99, of Crane, passed away Tuesday, August 24, 2004, at her home in Crane.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, August 27, 2004, at the Mary Street Church of Christ with Minister Danny Hooper officiating. Burial will follow in the Crane County Memorial cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Steve Hooper, Paul Hooper, Shawn Hooper, Kyle Hooper, Calvin Smith and Joe Napier.
Emma was born October 2, 1904, in Turkey, Texas, to J.B. “Jim” Love and Myrtle Ward Love. Her parents moved to Lea County, New Mexico, in a covered wagon when Emma was 2 years old, and homesteaded where the town of Lovington is now situated. She graduated from Lovington High School in 1924, and married Marven L. Hooper on October 2, 1928. They moved to the John Scharbauer and Millard Eidson Ranch at Judkins, Texas, in October of 1930. They moved to Goldsmith, Texas, in 1937, to Kermit, Texas, in 1943, back to Judkins, Texas, in 1944, and settled in Crane County, Texas, in 1949.
She is survived by two sons, Gordon Hooper and his wife, Nita, and Sammy Hooper and his wife, Nina, all of Crane; a daughter, Marvelee Mikkelsen and her husband, Kent, of Rio Rancho, N.M.; eight grandsons; nine great-grandsons; and nine great-granddaughters; and a sister, Anemone Binkley of Lovington, N.M.
Services are entrusted to Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home of Crane.

Shizuko ‘Seesue’ Fujimoto Shintani

CHICAGO — Shizuko “Seesue” Fujimoto Shintani died August 20, 2004, in Chicago, Illinois, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Seesue was born November 14, 1916, in Pasadena, California.
She married Victor Haruo Shintani March 4, 1944.
Her husband, Victor, precedes her in death; her parents, Katsumo and Tamihei Fujimoto; brother, Mas Fujimoto; and grandson, Christopher Haverback.
Seesue is survived by daughter, Patsy Shintani Cohen of Odessa, Texas; daughter, Marsha Steffen and Dave Semler of Lake Forrest, Illinois, and daughter, Lori Haverback of Kewanee, Illinois. Two brothers, Yo Fujimoto and Tamio and Fujimoto of California; granddaughter, Jackie Haverback; brother-in-law, Munro Shintani of Odessa, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be at Christ Church of Chicago on Friday, August 27, 2004. Arrangements are being handled by Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home. Burial will be Saturday, August 28, 2004, at Elmlawn cemetery in Elmhurst, Illinois.
The family is asking for donations in lieu of flowers to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Raymond Douglas Vasek

ODESSA — On June 20, 1961, there was a 9 lb. 9 oz. 25 inch Angel born from the union of June Lang and John Vasek. This Angel was Raymond Douglas Vasek. He was born in Lubbock, Texas, and moved to Odessa, Texas, in March 1966 where he attended public schools and graduated from Permian High School.
While in high school Doug rode skateboards, motorcycles, Odysseys and demolition track racing. After graduation he went to work for Machine Renewal and continued his hobbies.
In April 1985, he married C.J. in Odessa, Texas. Doug adopted C.J.’s son, Will, and during their marriage they adopted their other children, Preston, Trinity and Rachel.
Doug and C.J. were active in three motorcycle clubs, (Gold Wing Road Riders Association, Christian Motorcycle Association and Tribe of Judah), foster children’s program, active in his church, ministered to the gangs and he and his wife were instrumental in starting the Angel House in Odessa, Texas.
He was diagnosed with brain cancer in August 2003. He had a strong faith in the Lord, a sense of humor and many friends and family that helped him with his courageous battle.
Doug moved his family to Cabool, Mo., in June 2004 where C.J.’s family was living. Doug spent numerous days in the hospital in Mo., before he went to be with the Lord on August 16, 2004.
Services for him were held at 10 a.m. Thursday, August 19, 2004, at Cabool Assembly of God.
He is preceded in death by two stepsons, Ronnie Russell and Rick Reid; grandfather, R.F. “Red” Lang; grandmother, Bertha Lang; great-grandmother, Maudia Rowden; uncle, Billy Vasek and aunt, Betty Vasek.
He is survived by his wife, C.J. Vasek; children, Trinity, Preston, Rachel and Will and wife, Christy, and grandson, Ethan; mother, June Lang; father, John Vasek; one brother, Todd Vasek and his wife, Sandy; two sisters, Jody Badgwell and husband, Phil, and LaDonna Lammert and husband, Joel; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Doug will be missed by all that knew him.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 28, 2004, at the VFW Hall located on 208 E. VFW Lane.
In lieu of flowers, donations or memorials will be accepted at the VFW for the Angel House.

Bobbie Sizemore

ODESSA — Bobbie Sizemore, 78, of Odessa, passed away Tuesday, August 24, 2004, at her residence. She was born November 20, 1925, in Fort Worth to John and Dora Welch. She married Harrell Sizemore on January 1, 1946, in Kermit, Texas. They moved to Denver City, Texas, in 1947, where she worked as a dental assistant and an office nurse until their family moved to Odessa in 1965. There she enjoyed being a homemaker, mother and grandmother. She was a member of the Progressive Study Club and active in the First Baptist Church.
She and her husband retired to Ruidoso, New Mexico, in 1985. They lived there until February 2003, when they returned to Odessa to be closer to family.
Survivors include her husband, Harrell Sizemore of Odessa; son and daughter-in-law, John and Kathy Sizemore of Nocona, Texas; a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Doug Smith of Odessa; four granddaughters, Suzann Sizemore, Julie Davis, Jennifer Smith and Rebecca Sizemore; and two great-grandsons, Jase and John Bodie Davis.
Pallbearers will be Kenny Hutson, Kim Kinney, Nicholas Minyard, Rodney Parker, Randy Watts and Mark Wheeler. Funeral services will be Thursday, August 26, at 11 a.m. at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors Chapel with the Reverend Curtis Brewer officiating. Burial services will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to Home Hospice of Odessa or First Baptist Church Odessa.

Frank Subia Lozano

ODESSA — Surrounded by his Loved Ones in the afternoon hours of Monday, September 20, 2004, at Medical Center Hospital, Frank Subia Lozano, 94, of Odessa, passed away from this life, only to be greeted in our Heavenly Kingdom by Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and the love of his life, Our Mother, Martina, who preceded him in death in 2003.
Mr. Lozano was born June 15, 1910, in Saragosa, Texas, to Felix and Petra Subia Lozano. He united in marriage to Martina Vegil and to this unification was born seven children. He was a Christian Catholic and a hard-working man as a Farmer in the Agriculture Industry.
He was preceded in death by parents; grandson, Larry Zaranza; and six brothers. He is survived by two sons, Robert Lozano and Frank Lozano Jr., both of Odessa; five daughters, Hope Fenton and husband, Steve, of Odessa, Mary Ellen Ibarra and husband, Hector, Carolina Benavides and husband, Manuel, from Fort Stockton, Marcella Aranda and husband, Raul, of Kermit and Rachel Venne and husband, Ron, of San Antonio; two brothers, Gilbert Lozano of Pecos and Joe Lozano of Odessa; two sisters, Dominga Carrasco of Balmorhea and Eva Lozano of Odessa; 16 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren, three great- great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, and lots of friends.
Pallbearers will be Hector Ibarra Jr., Roland Aranda, Michael Benavides, Charles Benavides, Bobby Lozano Jr., Noel Lozano and Danny Lozano. Honorary pallbearers will be Capt. Stephen Sapiera (U.S.A.F.), Joseph Pemberton, Jonathan Long and Joshua Acosta.
We the family would like to take this time to express our utmost sincere gratitude to all the staff at Seabury Nursing Center especially Elaine Brasher for all the wonderful care that was given to our father.
A rosary will be recited today, September 22, 2004, at 7 p.m. at Odessa Funeral Home. Mass will be celebrated at 11:15 a.m. Thursday, September 23, 2004, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Reverend Francis Frey officiating, Interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Services by Odessa Funeral Home.

Iwana ‘Pinkie’ Montgomery

ODESSA — Iwana Odelle Montgomery passed away September 22, 2004. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, September 25, 2004, at Sunset Memorial Garden and Funeral Home, presided by Dr. David Mindel, followed by burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Odessa, Texas.
Pinkie was born in Eldorado, Ark., on May 8, 1923. She married Lewie Montgomery in 1944. That year, they moved to Odessa from Arkansas. Lewie preceded her in death in 1998.
Pinkie was a retired real estate broker and member of First Presbyterian Church and the Order of Eastern Star. In recent years she has lived in Seguin, Texas.
She is survived by her children, Patsy Hunt of McQueeney, Texas, Jimmy Montgomery of Houston, Texas, Douglas Manor of New Braunfels, Texas; grandchildren, Summer Perry, David Montgomery, Lisa Hill and Jason Hunt; ten great-grandchildren; as well as many nephews and nieces.
The family respectfully suggests memorials be made to Harmony Home Children’s Advocacy Center.

Yves De Chatillon

ODESSA — Yves De Chatillon passed Tuesday, September 21, at the Hospice House in Odessa. He was 91.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. today, Sept. 24, at First United Methodist Church, Fourth and Lee.
He was born in France on September 18, 1913. He became a U.S. citizen in the early 1930s and had his name changed to Benjamin Hardy, but he decided to go back to his given name in later years.
He lived an exciting life, working in various professions. He was in nursing in Philadelphia, and in California he worked at several different aircraft plants. After a chance meeting at an airport in El Paso, Yves decided to come to Odessa to retire. He quickly became a part of the Trower Family and happily lived out the last six years of his life with them.
His parents; seven sisters, three brothers; and his wife preceded him in death.
He is survived by his only child, Robert Hardy of California, and his very special friends, Joyce and Virgil Trower.
Arrangements are pending with Frank Wilson Funeral Home.

Jack David Akin Sr.

KERMIT — Jack David Akin Sr., longtime resident of Kermit, went to be with his Lord Tuesday, September 28, 2004. He entered this life Wednesday, November 5, 1924, in Texarkana, Bowie County, Texas, to the late James Fussel and Lula Leah (Johnson) Akin. He was 79 and a member of the Eastside Church of Christ.
A veteran of World War II, Jack was inducted into the U.S. Army on May 27, 1943, at Tyler, Texas. He served as a Military Policeman and expert Rifleman until his Honorable Discharge on April 25, 1946, in Camp Chaffee, Arkansas.
Jack moved to Kermit in 1947, where he married Mittie M. Pursell on January 22, 1949. He started work with Bass Enterprises before transferring to Sid Richardson Carbon Gas, where he retired after 28 1/2 years of service.
He leaves behind his wife, Mittie Akin of Kermit; three daughters, Cheryl and husband, Mike Bandel, of Schertz, Texas, Cathy and husband, Jim Kapka, of Hereford, Texas, and Janice and husband, Eddie Johnson, of Odessa, Texas; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
His parents, James Fussel and Lula Leah Akin; one son, Rusty Akin; two brothers, Colin and Jim Akin; and five sisters, Thadna Jones, Inez Rhodes, Mary Cranford, Faye Williams and Jean Cranford preceded him in death.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 2, 2004, at Eastside Church of Christ with Brothers Monty Huffman and Clydel Chapman officiating. Interment will follow at Kermit cemetery.
Pallbearers are Shane Kapka, James Kapka, Philip Bandel, Russell Bandel, Larry McNew and Charles Ainsworth. Honorary Pallbearers are Gene Paschall, Joe Slaughter, Edwin Ditto, Gerald Hudson, Willie Bryant and Ricky Kidd.

Arrangements are entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor of Kermit.

Dorothy Helen Burnett

ODESSA — Dorothy Helen Burnett, 86, of Odessa, died Monday, September 27, 2004, at the Hospice Midland Inpatient Unit at Midland Memorial Hospital. She was born August 27, 1918, in Bowie, Texas, to Ed and Ellie Arledge.
The family received visitors from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 30, 2004, at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kevin Bushart officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Burnett had been employed as a records clerk for the school district before her retirement. She was a member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Wm. Hardy Miller; daughter, Judy Longino of Odessa; parents; and siblings, Alma Moore, Ann Moore, Bess Jones and Bud Arledge.
She is survived by her husband, Charles “Buddy” Burnett of Odessa; daughter, Sandra Kratky of West Columbia, Texas; son, William Hardy Miller Jr. of Deer Park, Texas; stepsons, John Burnett and Charles Burnett III of Albuquerque, N.M.; stepdaughter, Carolyn Morris of Albuquerque, N.M.; brother, Joe Arledge of Gilmer, Texas; sisters, Gertrude Weeks and Fran Gleaton of Odessa; grandchildren, Kim McCann, Julie Salmon, Jeff Longino, Kirk Kratky, Rita Miller and Trey Miller; great-grandchildren, McCain Lauterbach, Ryan Longino, Bailee McCann, Logan Longino and Jackson Longino; numerous nieces and nephews, including Max B. Lloyd; and her faithful, longtime friend, Dean Longino.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made to the Alzheimers Association.
Services entrusted to Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
