Gary Moore

CRANE — Gary Moore passed from this life to life with his Heavenly Father early August 18, 2004, in the Crane Care Center.
He was born August 14, 1914, to H.N. “Judge” Moore and Adah Beth Penn in Franklin County, Texas. He grew to adulthood on the farm, near Mount Vernon, Texas.
Gary left the farm and his family to join the Army in 1934 and was honorably discharged in 1937. He then went to work for a seismograph company, working in Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas, where he met Lucille Ferrin. They married June 23, 1940, on SMU Campus, Dallas, Texas. They moved to San Antonio, Texas, later that year where Gary drove city busses for 9 1/2 years. While living in San Antonio, their two daughters were born, first Linda Jo in 1943 and next Barbara Jean in 1948.
The family moved to West Texas in February 1951 and Gary went to work for El Paso Natural Gas Co. They lived in Kermit, Denver City, Jal, N.M., and Dimmitt, Texas, transferring to Crane in 1957. He was an active member of the Crane Christian Church until his retirement in 1976 and he and Lucille moved to Tow, Texas. They missed their girls and moved back to Crane in 1982. Gary and Lucille were also active in the Order of the Eastern Star Chapters 816 and 447. He also belonged to Masonic Lodge’s 1262 in Crane and 1385 in Odessa.
He will be remembered by many in the area for his work in both of these organizations.
Gary is survived by his wife, Lucille of Crane Care Center; his two daughters, Linda Jo and husband, Bob Boyd, of Crane and Barbara Moore of Odessa; two grandsons, Stephen Boyd of Crane and Gary Allen Boyd and wife, Kathy, of Brownfield; and two great-grandchildren, Jade Boyd and D. Allen Boyd of Brownfield.
Gary was an active member of the Dorothea Street Church of Christ, and had commented that his God, his church and his family were the most important things to him. The example of his life will be sorely missed.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, August 20, 2004, at the Dorothea Street Church of Christ with Minister Ric Allen officiating. Burial will follow in the Crane County cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home.

Oscar Ruiz Padilla

ODESSA — Oscar Ruiz Padilla, 32, of Odessa, a person full of life who was a wonderful son, father, excellent brother a devoted husband, grandson and dear friend, passed away Saturday, August 14, 2004, at Medical Center Hospital. He was born May 14, 1972, in Bakersfield, California, to Cruz Padilla Sr. and Isabel Ruiz.
He was a Catholic and an assembly mechanic for the oilfield industry with Weatherford Company. Mr. Padilla graduated from Arvin High School in Arvin, California, and afterward served two years in the U.S. Navy. Oscar was a very dedicated person that if he ever wanted something he would be the person that would achieve his goals. He would go out of his way to do anything and everything for anybody, tough love or not he had a heart of gold. A sense of humor like no other! Always smiling and cracking jokes. Oscar will always live in our lives and will miss him dearly.
Oscar was preceded in death by his grandmothers, Celestina Ruiz and Elena Rodriguez Padilla. He is survived by wife, Dena Reyes of Odessa; daughter, Elvira Isabel Padilla of Odessa; father, Cruz Padilla Sr. of Odessa; mother, Isabel Ruiz Of Bakersfield, California; brother, Cruz Padilla Jr. of Odessa; sisters, Stella Padilla, and Elena Padilla, both of Bakersfield, California, and Olivia Padilla of Odessa; God-parents, Jesus and Esperanza Padilla of Odessa; uncles, Florenco Ruiz and Abraham Ruiz, both of Bakersfield, Calif.; and aunt, Patricia Baca of Bakersfield, Calif.
Pallbearers will be Cruz Padilla Jr., Manuel Cruz, Vivian Reyes, Bart Gomez, Caeser Russell, Gilbert Casarez, Paul Rodriguez, and Kathy Padilla.
A rosary was recited at Wednesday, August 18, 2004, at Odessa Funeral Home Chapel. Mass was celebrated at 2 p.m. Thursday, August 19, 2004, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Joseph Uecker officiating. Burial to follow at Rose Hill cemetery.
Services by Odessa Funeral Home.

Opal Sims

ODESSA — Opal Sims, 82, of Odessa, passed away August 17, 2004, at Parks Methodist Retirement Village in Odessa.
Graveside services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, August 21, in Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Dick Brown officiating.
Pallbearers are Donnie Riley, Josh Riley, Mike Sims, Darin Riley, Lynn McIntosh and Don Driver Jr.
Opal was born March 28, 1922, in Hamlin, Texas, to John and Bertha Hopper. On August 21, 1939, she married Jack Sims in Odessa. They moved to Anchorage, Alaska, in 1961. One of her proudest moments was when she became the president of the Anchorage Petroleum Wives Bridge Club. Opal was a homemaker. She moved back to Odessa in 1989 where she lived the remainder of her life.
She is survived by her daughter, Jeanette Driver and husband, Don, of Odessa; son, Jack Sims and wife, Sherry, of Anchorage, Alaska; sister, Helen McKiearnan of Odessa; uncle, Paul Cain of Sweetwater; grandchildren, Josh Riley of San Antonio, Donnie Riley Jr. of Odessa and Jamie and Mike Sims of Anchorage; great-grandchildren, Tim, Andy, Darin and Melody Riley; and by her family at Parks Methodist Retirement Village who helped take care of her for the past 15 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1984 and by her mother in 1996.
Memorials may be made to Parks Methodist Retirement Village in Odessa.
Services are under the direction of Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.

Dora Marjory Braswell Wilson

ODESSA — Dora Marjory Braswell Wilson, 78, of Odessa, died August 15, 2004, at Medical Center Hospital. She was born June 18, 1926, in Douglas, Arizona, to William Edward and Lois Ida Braswell. She married Max Wilson February 19, 1947, in Richmond, California.
In 1968, Max and Marjory moved to Odessa after Max retired from the Army. They traveled extensively during his military career living in California, Washington, Virginia, Kentucky, Texas and Germany.
Marjory was an avid lifelong learner. She took many college courses: geology, geography, history, philosophy and foreign languages. Her love of learning was not just in the classroom. She loved knowledge for its own sake, read voraciously and took great joy in using what she had learned to speak with others on a variety of subjects.
She was a dedicated volunteer, working with the Girl Scouts and the League of Women Voters. She spent hours judging gymnastics meets and was awarded the first Service to Youth Award by the High School Gymnastics Coaches Association. She loved teaching and loved children. She taught “Plant Talk” to fourth-graders through the Master Gardening program.
She was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church.
Marjory is survived by her husband, Retired Lt. Col. Max Wilson; her son, Max Wilson of Tulsa; her daughter, Mia Gibson of Odessa; her brother, Richard Braswell of Indianapolis; and her sister, Sue Braswell of Odessa; she is survived by eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces, nephews and other family members. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, William Edward Braswell Jr., and her son, Madison Wilson.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, August 22, at the Unitarian Universalist Church at 401 E. 42nd St. Flowers or memorial donations may be sent to the Unitarian Universalist Church.
We would like to thank the staff of Nurses Unlimited, ICU and 8 Central at Medical
Center Hospital, Dr. Archuleta-Casanova, Dr. Abdul Kadir and her other physicians who cared for Marjory during her illness.

C.H. ‘Chuck’ Palmer

ODESSA — C.H. “Chuck” Palmer, 76, a longtime resident of Odessa, passed away Friday, August 20, 2004, at Regency Hospital. He was born May 7, 1928, in Brownwood, Texas. He was reared in Mercury, Texas, and moved to Odessa in 1967. He served in the Navy for 10 years. He was a prison ministries volunteer at Big Spring for five years and at Pyote for nine years. He was owner of the Driving Safety School.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Carrie Palmer; son, Larry Palmer; and sister, Verna Mae Palmer.
He is survived by his wife, Jerry Ann Palmer of Odessa; daughters, Carrie Reeves and husband, Ron, of Wills Point, Texas, Julie Palmer and Sharon Hughes, both of Houston, Marilyn Hall and husband, Billy, of Odessa, and Shawna James and husband, John, of Springhill, Kan.; 13 grandchildren, Hannah, Cheyenne, Benjamin, Dustin, Clifton, Blake, Vince, Lynn, Jeremy, Jessica, Jonathan, Melissa and Michelle; eight great-grandchildren, Memory, Melody, Destni, Demi, April, Angel, Jamie and Shelby.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, August 23, 2004, at Calvary Baptist Church with Pastor James Bishop and Leland Maples officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church Prison Ministry.
Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

Zack W. Scott

MIDLAND — Zack W. Scott, a longtime resident of West Texas, passed away at the age of 87 on Friday, Aug. 20, 2004, after a short heart illness.
He was born in Coryell County, Texas, and shortly afterwards moved to West Texas where Zack joined Phillips Petroleum and happily spent 40 years in the E&P Department of the company.
He is survived by his loving wife, Nona; and sons, Ken and wife Sharon of Dallas; Abe and wife Nelda of Goldsmith; and Charles and wife Sharin of Houston. Additionally, he is survived by his sister, Sue Beard of Odessa; and five grandchildren, Zack, Hal, John Charles, Lauren and Lindsey; and one great-grandchild, Lucas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Zack was preceded in death by his parents, Ross and Sula; and his sister, Myrtle Day.
Zack was a past active member of the Goldsmith Methodist Church, the FUMC of Odessa and the Runaway Bay Community Church. He was a 50-year member of the Goldsmith Masonic Lodge where he attained a 32nd Degree.
For the past seven years he and Nona lived at Manor Park in Midland where they once again made many new friends. Zack’s happy spirit and genuine affection for people endeared him to numerous friends who enjoyed his wit and humor.
Visitation with family will take place at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 23, 2004.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2004, at Manor Park Chapel in Midland, Texas, at the entrance of Wallace Circle, with the Rev. Jimmy Braswell officiating. A short reception will be held following the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Manor Park, Inc, or Hospice House of Odessa, or the Goldsmith United Methodist Church.

Olga Tyra

ODESSA — Olga Tyra, 77 years of age, passed away Friday, Aug. 20, 2004, at Medical Center Hospital.
She was born on March 21, 1927, in San Diego, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Ray Tyra; parents, Locario and Elida Hinojosa Sr.; son, Juanito Vega; and daughter, Dalita Limon.
Surviving are her sons, Felipe Limon and wife Rosa of Odessa, Estanislado Limon and wife Mary of Abilene, Ruben Limon and wife Sheila, Oscar Limon, and Desi “LoLo” Vega, all of Odessa; daughters, Nelda Romero and Elida Terrazas, both of Odessa; brothers, Locadio Hinojosa Jr. of Agua Dulce, Texas, and Miguel A. Hinojosa Sr. of San Diego Calif.; sister, Guadalupe “Lupe” Herbert of Kaplan La.; 25 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
A prayer service is set for 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 23, 2004, at Odessa Funeral Home Chapel.
Funeral services are set for 10 a.m. Tuesday at Latter Rain Worship Center with Pastor Craig DeArmond officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Caroline Limon, Felipe Limon Jr. James Limon, Ramon Terrazas Jr. Oscar Limon and Frank Prieto

Rodolfo ‘Rudy’ R. Lujan

ODESSA — Rodolfo “Rudy” R. Lujan, 28, of Odessa, passed away Monday, August 23, 2004, at Regency Medical Center Hospital.
Mr. Lujan was born April 2, 1976, in Ojinaga, Chihuahua, Mexico, to Carlos and Josefina Ramirez Lujan. He united in marriage to Maritza Franco October 8, 2001, here in Odessa. He was a Christian Catholic and worked in the Construction Industry as an Insulator.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, David Ramirez. He is survived by wife, Maritza F. Lujan of Odessa; parents, Carlos and Josefina Lujan of Odessa; grandparents, Santos and Agricula Lujan of Ojinaga, Mexico; and grandmother, Otilia Ramirez of Lubbock; four brothers, Juan Carlos Lujan, Oscar Lujan, Aron Lujan and Samuel Lujan, all of Odessa; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and lots of friends.
Pallbearers will be his brothers, cousins, and friends.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today, August 25, 2004, at Odessa Funeral Home Chapel.
Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, August 26, 2004, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Joseph Uecker officiating, Burial will follow at Rose Hill cemetery.
