Eleanor Calvert Mason

Odessa - Eleanor Calvert Mason, 86, of Odessa, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2005, at Odessa Regency Hospital.
She was born Aug. 13, 1918, in Quinter, Kan., to her parents, Cecil and Lela May Songer Calvert. She graduated from Fort Hays Kansas State. She moved to Odessa in 1965. She was a teacher and a band director, but her greatest interest was working with special needs children and adults, where she had been very active with civic work to assist them in the community. She received the Diana Award in 1981 for her work with special needs people.
She married Robert T. Mason on Aug. 15, 1945, in Hays, Kan. He passed away Jan. 20, 1993. She was a Methodist.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Jean Garry and Susan Giese; and a brother, Cecil Calvert Jr.
She is survived by her son, John Michael Mason and wife, Socorro; and beloved granddaughter, Eleanor Lela Mason of Pecos; and a sister, Nadyne Gibson of Long Beach, Calif.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Friday, Aug. 5, 2005, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Kevin Bushart officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Memorials may be made to the Ector County Association for Retarded Citizens.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

James Dale Franklin

ODESSA - James Dale Franklin, 65, of Odessa, passed away Friday May 6, 2005, at Regency Hospital in Odessa.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Westside Apostolic Church at 2500 N. Tripp Ave. in Odessa, with Allen Harris officiating.
James Dale Franklin was born Feb. 20, 1940, in Butler, Texas, to Pelham Gordon Franklin and Johnnie Mae Jenkins. He married Betty McCowen on Oct. 11, 1963, in Stamford, Texas. Mr. Franklin was the owner of Photo Visions.
He is preceded in death by his sister, Billie Booth; and his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Franklin of Odessa; son and daughter-in-law, Dale and Angelique Franklin of Odessa; brother and sister-in-law, Ray and Beth Franklin of Stamford; sister, Bonnie Thompson of Odessa; special friends, Ben and Dianne Penn; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services entrusted to Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.

Troy Lee Webb

MIDLAND - Funeral services for Troy Lee Webb will be at 11 a.m. Monday, May 9, 2005, at Faith Temple Church of God in Christ.
Troy Lee Webb was born Sept. 2, 1947, in Midland, Texas, the fifth child of the late James William Webb Sr. and Katie Mae (Glenn) Webb.
Troy received his education in the Midland Independent School District. He was a graduate of Carver High School. He was a Lineman on the Carver Hornet football team. He played on a semi-pro football team — the Midland Roughnecks. Troy loved the game of golf and was a member of the West Texas Amateur Golf Association. One of his favorite sayings when playing golf was, “Long and wrong.” His son-in-law states that “He would always find the ball no matter where it landed.” He also loved high school football, and he was a died-hard fan of the Midland Lee Rebels.
Troy united in holy matrimony to Delores “Lois” Jean Pettes on June 14, 1969. They were blessed with three children.
Troy accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. As a child, he attended Alexander Temple Church of God in Christ under the leadership of the late Bishop J.E. Alexander. He later united with the Antioch Baptist Church under the leadership of the Rev. G.T. Curry Sr. And in 1986, he and his family united with the Macedonia Baptist Church under the leadership of the Rev. O.J. Archie, where he served until God called him home. Troy was a member of the Senior Usher Committee, a Deacon, teacher of the men’s Sunday School class, a member of the Training Union, Brotherhood and the Male Chorus. He also served from time to time as church custodian and bus driver. He loved working and talking with the young people at church. He was a dedicated and faithful member.
Troy’s employment included Rich Air Co. of Midland, Texas; and Gulf Oil Co., which later became Chevron Oil Co., where he worked for 24 years. After Chevron, he was employed with the Midland Independent School District Transportation Department as a bus driver. He loved this job, because it gave him an opportunity to interact with many young people. Troy started his own business, “Troy’s Handy Man Service, ” and went on to Midland College to pursue his certification in heating and air conditioning. After his certification, he was employed by the City of Midland Housing Authority in December 2000, where he was still employed until his death.
Troy Webb departed this life on Wednesday, May, 4, 2005, at Midland Memorial Hospital.
To cherish his memories, he leaves his loving and devoted wife, Delores “Lois” for 35 years; two daughters, Michelle Lewis and husband Patrick of Forney, Texas, and LaFonda Webb of Midland, Texas; one son, Travares Webb of Midland, Texas; two sisters, Ina Pearl Stroud and husband Greg of Carson, Calif., Willie Ruth Adams, and an extended sister, Mattie Pearl Lee, both of Midland, Texas; three grandchildren, Patrice Lewis, Antoine Lewis and Treyvon Lewis; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Gover and Laura Pettes.
Preceding him in death were his mother and father; two brothers, James “Blue” Webb Jr. and Robert Webb.
To further cherish his memories, he leaves sisters-in-law; brothers-in-law; nieces; nephews; cousins; relatives; and so many friends.
Pallbearers are Thomas Williams, John Cooper, Raydell Hudgins, Eddie Sanchez, Gerald Conally, Larry Valentine, Anthony Borens and Renae Cook.
Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Thomas Funeral Home.

Kenneth L. Kennedy

ODESSA - Kenneth L. Kennedy 82, of Odessa, passed away Friday, May 6, 2005, at Medical Center Hospital.
Kenneth was born June 11, 1922, in Wichita Falls, Texas, to Javus Riley Kennedy and Stella Amanda White Kennedy.
He was a member of Oddfellows Lodge for 55 years.
Kenneth is survived by brother, Tommy Kennedy of Odessa; sister, Mrs. Christene Barker of Odessa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Jack Weldon Kennedy and James Ray Kennedy; five nieces; and two nephews.
Graveside services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, May 9, 2005, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Roy Smalling officiating.
Services are entrusted to Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.

Ruth E. Porter

MCCAMEY - Ruth E. Porter, 83, formerly of Odessa, went to be with the Lord on May 6, 2005, in Round Rock, Texas, after a lengthly illness.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, May 9, 2005, at McCamey Resthaven cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m to 1 p.m. Monday at Shaffer Nichols Funeral Home in McCamey.
She was born June 8, 1921, in Lequire, Okla., to Benjamin D. Hill and Gussie Chastain Hill. She was raised in McCamey Texas. She moved to Odessa in 1967. She worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co., where she retired after 22 years of service.
She married Frank Porter on July 17, 1949, in Crane, Texas.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her son, Jerry L. Pulliam.
She is survived by her daughters, Sharon Lee and husband Gary of Austin and Kevin Powell and husband Jeff of Midlothian; grandchildren, Tori Smith of Austin, and Tara, Hunter and Blair Chelette of Midlothian; great-granddaughter, Danielle Martinez of Austin; two brothers, Wayne Hill of Muldrow, Okla., and Warren Hill of Houston, Texas; and beloved nieces and nephews.

Jimmie Irene Carnes

Odessa - On August 27, Jimmie Irene Carnes went home to join her loved ones in heaven.
She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and aunt. She enjoyed being surrounded by her loved ones and always had a story to share. Those who loved her will miss her laughter, good humor and love for her family. With her usual gallant strength and grace she fought to overcome her illness.
She is preceded in death by her husband, R.P. Carnes; and her granddaughter, Mallarie Carnes.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sharron and Tommy Massey of Lubbock, and Connie and Roy Bingham of Arlington; her son, Rance Carnes of Odessa; many grandchildren, Justin and Tim Massey, Matthew and Samatha Bingham, Brad and Jessica Bingham, Chris and Sarah Bingham, Nakeesha Franko and Rusty Carnes; great-grandchildren, Britni Massey, Brandon Massey, Tyler Massey, Landon Bingham and Dominic Delvalle; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today, August 31st, at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Carnes had been a member of Northside Baptist Church and the family request memorials to their building fund in her name.
Services are entrusted to Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.

Paulino C. Fuentes

Monahans - Paulino C. Fuentes, 87, of Monahans, passed away Sunday, Aug. 28, 2005, in Monahans.
Paulino was born June 22, 1918, in Terlingua. He was a construction laborer.
Rosary was said at 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 29, at St. John Catholic Church. Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. today, Aug. 30, at the church with the Rev. John Lucido officiating. Burial will be at Monahans Memorial cemetery.
His survivors include his son, Ismael P. Fuentes of Monahans; brother, Sam Urias of Amarillo; sisters, Ramona Guyton of Odessa, and Rosa Rey of Midland; numerous nieces and nephews; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Services are entrusted to Family Funeral Services /Jackie Harkey.

Glyn Gray

Abilene - Carl Glyn Gray, 60, passed from this life Thursday, August 25, 2005, at an Abilene medical center.
His funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 542 Hickory, in Abilene, with the Revs. Roy Prescott and David Sims officiating.
Born in Andice, Texas, on May 15, 1945, Glyn was the son of Mary (Grisham) and Alvie Gray. He was a long haul transport driver and had been a resident of Odessa, where he worked at Champion Technology for 13 years. He moved to Abilene from Roswell, New Mexico, in July of 2005. He was a Baptist and a U.S. Army veteran.
He married Julie Cowsert on July 27, 1974 in Midland. Known by everyone as “Paw Paw, ” his passions were his family and gardening. His favorite saying was “Everything is going to be alright.” Paw Paw will truly be missed.
Survivors include his wife, Julie Gray of Abilene; sons, Harold Gray and Michael Gray, both of Odessa; a daughter, Stella Gray of Abilene; his mother, Mary Blanchard of Roswell, N.M.; seven brothers; three sisters; and four grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to American Diabetes Association, 8008 Slide Road, Suite 12A, Lubbock, TX 79424, or the American Heart Association, 149 N. Willis, Abilene, TX 79603.

Enrique ‘Ricky’ Estrada Nunez

Odessa - Enrique “Ricky” Estrada Nunez, 40, passed away Saturday, Aug. 27, 2005, at his residence in Odessa.
He was born July 15, 1965, in Odessa to parents, Victor Nunez and Zulema Estrada Nunez.
A Rosary will be said tonight at 7 p.m. at Martinez Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2005, at St. Josephs Catholic Church with the Rev. Joe Uecker officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Arlene L. Nunez of Odessa; son, Francisco E. Nunez of Odessa; daughters, Christiana Monique Nunez and Zulema Victoria Nunez, both of Odessa, and Amy Torres of Hanford, Calif.; parents, Victor Nunez and Zulema Estrada Nunez, both of Odessa; brothers, Roberto E. Nunez and Louis E. Nunez, both of Odessa; and sisters, Cruz N. Hunter of Georgia and Emma E. Nunez of Austin.
Arrangements are under the direction of Martinez Funeral Home.

Jim Robinson

Breckenridge - Jim Robinson, age 69, of Breckenridge, died Saturday, August 27, 2005, at Abilene Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Monday, August 29th, at Morehart Mortuary Chapel in Breckenridge. Graveside services and burial will be at 3 p.m. today, August 30th, at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Odessa. Burial will be under the direction of Morehart Mortuary.
James Monroe Robinson was born May 16, 1936, in Odessa to parents, James Melvin Robinson and Juanita Denton Robinson. He attended Odessa High School and married Betty Barnes on November 14, 1958, in Odessa. They moved to Breckenridge from Odessa in 1977.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Betty of Breckenridge; sons, James Landon Robinson of Midland, and Terry Robinson and Kevin Robinson, both of Odessa; daughter, LaNita Pointer of Odessa; brother, Earl Robinson of Laurel, Miss.; sister, Jonny Granger of San Antonio; and 12 grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the organization or the donors’ choice and may be left at Morehart Mortuary.

Norma Culpepper

Glen Rose - Norma Lee Culpepper, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend peacefully joined our Lord and Savior on Aug. 30, 2005.
Born in Cisco Feb. 10, 1927, to Paul and Thelma Price, she was the third of five children. Norma was a sweet, loving mother who loved to tell stories, laugh, dance and go to the ballgames to root and holler for her kids whether they were playing ball, an instrument in the band or twirling batons. She enjoyed all her grandkids and great grandkids and loved being around people. Born a Pentecost, she believed in God and going to church, she taught what was right from wrong, to never lie, was never rude to anyone—was very mild mannered, and always told us “don’t judge other people, everyone has their own faults.”
Norma is survived by her five children, Gary Culpepper of Pflugerville, Geraldine Culpepper of Midlothian, and Ginger Rogers, Joe Ray Culpepper and Jamie Culpepper, all of Glen Rose; their spouses; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandkids; and four brothers and their families; Paul Price, Billy J. Price and Ronnie Price all of Odessa, and Don Price of Arlington.
Viewing will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday, Sept. 2, 2005, at Wiley Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Bill Daniels officiating.

Bettye Louise Fryer

ODESSA - “I’ve fought a good fight, I’ve finished the race. I’ve kept the faith.” II Timothy 4:7.

Bettye Fryer went to meet her beloved Lord and Savior Thursday, Sept. 1, 2005, after a long and courageous battle as a stroke victim.
Bettye was born Jan. 3, 1933, in Old Hickory, Ark., to Alva and Imo Pruett. She married Gene Fryer on June 23, 1951, and spent her life as a loving wife and mother of four children and loving grandmother of four grandchildren. Bettye was raised, instilled with the value of hard work and that she did until she was struck by a stroke. Bettye was a very independent, feisty woman and she enjoyed nothing more than her gardening, being outdoors, planting her garden and flowers. She was an avid football and basketball fan. She attended every Odessa High School football game, and never missed a Dallas Maverick basketball game and saw them play in person a couple of seasons ago. That was one highlight in her life. Bettye was an active member of Sherwood Church of Christ, until she was struck by a stroke and loved her church family.
Bettye was preceded in death by her husband, Gene; and her mother and father, Alva and Imo Pruett.
Left behind to share Bettye’s memories are her children, Becky Whitaker and husband, Bill, of Odessa, Kathy Whalen of Odessa, Debbie Boxley and husband, David, of Wimberley, and Scott Fryer of Odessa; grandchildren, Joseph Whitaker of Arlington, Justin Boxley of Chicago, Ill., Lindsay Whalen of Denton, and Josh Boxley of San Marcos. Bettye is also survived by a brother, Bill Pruett of Malden, Mo.; aunt, Ola Rhea Wilson of Atkins, Ark.; three nieces; and a host of cousins and friends, as well as her Christian family.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with Lynn Money officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
The family would like to especially thank Laura Medrano, her sweet and precious caregiver and friend who was a Godsend to Bettye and her family, Home Hospice and Chris’ Country Retirement Home for their loving care and kindness throughout this most difficult time in Bettye and family’s lives.
Pallbearers will be: Jerry Whitley, R.N. Whitley, Alfred White, John Handley, Bobby Ragsdale and R.B. Hunnicutt.
Services are entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
