Claris Virginia York

Odessa - Claris Virginia York, 74, a retired cafeteria worker for ECISD, passed away Saturday, July 2, 2005, at her residence in Odessa.
She was born July 27, 1930, to Luther Anderson and Clarice Esther Coppock in Wortham. She married Robert Junior York at the Ector County Courthouse on May 22, 1974. At that time, she was the widow of Carmen Bruno, her first husband with whom she shared 13 years of matrimony.
Virginia and Bob were married for 32 years. They had no children, but Virginia was proud of her three stepchildren, Susan K. York Bowman, Robert Allen York, and John Michael York and their families.
All of these loved ones survived her, along with her brother, Junior Coppock; two aunts; and cousins.
Services have been entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Informal viewing will be held during normal operating hours on Tuesday, July 5, 2005, with family visitation from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 6, 2005, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Bill Billett officiating.
Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Michael York, Robert Louis York, Jason Travis Bowman, Stanley Clint Bowman, William Clyde Gathings, and Clayton Cunningham.
The family suggests honorariums to Hospice or your favorite charity.

Karyl Lew Burnam

Karyl Lew Burnam, 54, of Odessa passed away Saturday, July 2, 2005, at her residence.
She was born Sept. 18, 1950, in Hope, Ark., to Leward and Jane Sparks.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, Col. Maurice Kim Burnam, on March 25, 2003.
She is survived by her son, Kollin Burnam and wife, Liz, of Chula Vista, Calif.; daughter, Kana Burnam McPeters and husband, Kenny, of San Diego, Calif.; parents, L.W. and Jane Sparks of Hobbs, N.M.; brother, Mark Sparks of Odessa; sisters, Cindy Sample of Albuquerque, N.M., and Lisa Rodgers of Willie; two grandchildren, Karter and Koltin Burnam; mother-in-law, Juakana Burnam; and father-in-law, Glenn Burnam of Hobbs, N.M.
Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Mountain time, Thursday, July 7, at the First Christian Church in Hobbs, N.M.
Services are entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

Thelma May Sims Cooper

Jal, N.M. - Thelma May Sims Cooper, 91, of Jal, N.M., passed from this life Saturday, July 2, 2005, at her residence.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., today, July 6, at the Jal Church of Christ with Mr. Daryl Micham and Mr. Talley Murphy officiating. Interment will follow at Cooper cemetery.
Thelma was born December 30, 1913, to R.R. and Edy Sims at Matkins Ranch, while they were living and working for Billy Matkins west of Teague Switch. She married Clyde Nathaniel Cooper in 1932 and lived at their ranch at Jal until 1978 when they moved into town.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Clyde in 1987. Also preceding her in death were her parents, R.R. and Edy Sims; her brother, R.D. Sims in 1998; her sisters, Fay Parrish in 2003 and Dorothy Gregory in 2004; and one great-granddaughter, Kristin Gayle Pruitt in 1986.
Thelma is survived by her two daughters, Elena Grobe and her husband, Bill, of Jal, and Joyce Willis and her husband, George, of Jal; five grandchildren, Billy Grobe and wife, Vicki, of Mason, Ohio, Tryon Hassen and husband, Gary, of Hobbs, N.M., Lisa Pruitt and husband, Don, of Peoria, Arizona, Nat Willis and wife, Darla, of Jal, and Kent Willis and wife, Tapatha, of Hobbs, N.M.; 10 great-grandchildren, Crystal Mahon and husband, Sean, of Maineville, Ohio, Clay Green of Dublin, Texas, Cress Green of Hobbs, Krishiona Green of Las Cruces, N.M., Chelsea and Michael Pruitt of Peoria, Arizona, Brandon and Zachary Willis, both of Jal, and Natalya and Andrea Willis of Hobbs. The surviving sisters are Minnie Hedgpeth and husband, Jack, of Jal, Jewel Griffin of Kingston, Oklahoma, and Chloe Sims of Eunice; and numerous nieces and nephews and friends.
Thelma received numerous awards which include: Resided in Eunice Area Longest Time in 1975; Old Timer Eunice Area Woman in 1986, 1988, 1989, 1991; Longest Continual Resident in Lea County in 1990, 1992, 1996, 1998, 1999; Oldest Woman Born and Living in Lea County in 1993, 1994, 1997, 1999, 2000, 2001; and Lea County Pioneer. She was a member of the Jal Church of Christ.
Pallbearers will be Billy Grobe, Tryon Hassen, Lisa Pruitt, Nat Willis, Clay Green and Cress Green. Honorary Pallbearers are Hugh Gregory, Martha Cone, Tommy Cooper, Jim Parrish, Anna Rodriquez and Kent Willis.
Honorary pallbearers will be: Brandon Willis and Zachary Willis.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lea County Cowboy Hall of Fame or the Carolyn Aubrey Fund.

Lelah ‘Lee’ Doty

Odessa - Lee Doty, 82, of Odessa, passed away Sunday, July 3, 2005 at the Hospice House of Odessa
Lee was born April 27, 1923, in Mount Auburn, Ill., to Rolla and Josie Throop. She married Bryan Eugene Doty on May 23, 1939. They had three children: Rich, Judy and Patty. In her younger years, she was renowned for her fried chicken and for her crocheting skills. She was an expert card player and taught all of her grandchildren to play every game under the sun. At age 82, she could still win the family card games. She enjoyed many years working at the Inn of the Golden West, Salt and Pepper and Pojo’s. She was an avid NASCAR/Jeff Gordon fan and loved to talk about the races. She always had a smile on her face and made friends wherever she went.
Her parents; husband; daughter, Judy Ellzey; son, Richard Doty; a sister; and a brother preceded her in death.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Pat Jones and son-in-law, Al Jones, of Odessa; son-in-law, Joe Ellzey of Carlsbad, Texas; daughter-in-law, Pat Doty of Carlsbad, Texas; 14 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson; sister, Rolena Huber of Anawan, Ill.; nieces, Lee Thompson of Germantown, Ohio, and Kay Etter of Illiopolis, Ill.; nephew, Bud Allen of Decatur, Ill.; and her “porch friend” Liliy.
Visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. today, July 6, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 7, at the Grape Creek cemetery in Grape Creek.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Hospice House or Meals on Wheels.
Services are entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

Robert Dale Eubank Sr.

Monahans - Robert Dale Eubank Sr., 72, a retired gas plant operator with El Paso Natural Gas, of Kermit, passed away Monday, July 4, 2005, in Midland.
He was born March 12, 1933, in Swartz, La. He was a U.S. Army veteran in the Korean War; a member of the Masonic Lodge; and a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy Shirlene Eubank of Kermit, Texas; son, Robert Eubank Jr. and wife, Rhonda, of Monahans, Texas; daughters, Annette Shepard and husband, John, and Sheila LaLonde and husband, Johnny, both of Kermit, Texas; brother, Russell Eubank of Monahans, Texas; grandchildren, Bryan Shepard, Joey McKinney, Michelle Bennett, Tiffany Garcia, Lacey LaLonde and Natalie LaLonde; great-grandchildren, Shyanne Shepard, Dylan Shepard, Hanna McKinney, Hailey McKinney, Kyla Bennett and Gabriel Garcia.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, July 8, at Grace Temple Baptist Church in Kermit, Texas, with the Rev. Gordon Oglesby. Burial will be at Kermit cemetery.
Services are entrusted to Family Funeral Services/ Jackie Harkey.

Terry Mae Lawrence Huggins

Longview - Terry Mae Lawrence Huggins, 55, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Sunday, June 19, 2005.
She was born July 16, 1949, in Bridgeport. She lived in Odessa for 32 years and in Longview for almost five years, where she lost her courageous battle with cancer.
Terry was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Neva Nell Lawrence; and a brother, Larry Lawrence.
She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Frank Huggins of Longview; a son, Frankie Huggins and wife, Elissa, of El Paso; a sister, Sharon Holt and husband, Bob, of Longview; a brother, Fred Lawrence of Bridgeport; eight nieces; two nephews; and many friends.
Terry was a very spiritual person, and she relied heavily on her faith during her lifetime and throughout her illness.
She was a certified interior designer/decorator and was instrumental in the design process for the new hospital building at the Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Tulsa, Okla. Her faith and her decorating talents left an integral imprint on the facility and staff, as well as the other patients there.
Terry was a very giving person even in death. She donated her body to medical research, hoping to benefit mankind by helping to progress medical science and education.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 9, at Crescent Park Baptist Church in Odessa.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to: Greater Hospice of West Texas, P.O. Box 9725, Longview, TX 75608; the Cancer Treatment Centers of America, 10109 E. 79th St., Tulsa, OK 74113; or to the Crescent Park Baptist Church (building fund), 3002 E. Earl Phelix Lefevre

Odessa - Earl Phelix Lefevre, 91, of Odessa, passed away Sunday, July 3, 2005, at his residence at Lincoln Tower.
There was a family visitation from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, July 5, 2005, at Frank Wilson Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Frank Wilson Funeral Chapel with the Pastor Bobby Bell officiating and several grandchildren contributing memories of their paw-paw’s life as they did when their grandmother passed away. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Masonic graveside services.
The pallbearers will be: his grandsons and one great-grandson.
The honorary pallbearers will be: his granddaughters and great-granddaughters.
Earl Lefevre was born Feb. 1, 1914, in Cleburne, Texas, to Ira Phelix Lefevre and Elizabeth Martin. He married Wilma Short in Stamford, Texas, May 4, 1934. She predeceased him on Aug. 9, 1997. He was also predeceased by a great-grandson, Gabriel D. Morris on March 6, 2005. He was a retired operator for Sid Richardson Carbon Co. and also worked for the Ector County Parks Department after retirement from Sid Richardson Carbon Co. He was also a member of Asbury Methodist Church, a 32nd degree Mason, Past Master of the Andy G. Vaughn Masonic Lodge and a member of the Scottish Rite of Dallas. He was also a member and Past Worthy Patron of Friendship Chapter No. 1008, Order of the Eastern Star. He enjoyed the Dance Club at the senior citizens center and also played dominos there and anywhere that he could find a good game. His family challenged him to a good game but hardly anyone ever won but Earl.
He is survived by a son, Jerry D. Lefevre and wife, Juanell, of Odessa; daughters, Linda D. Spragins and husband, Bob, of Dallas, Shirley D. Morris and husband, B.J., of McKinney; brothers, G.W. Lefevre of Sagerton, and Melvin Lefevre of Houston; grandchildren, Larry D. Morris, Garry D. Morris, Barry D. Morris, J.D. Lefevre, Terry D. Lefevre, Danielle Lefevre, Kyle D. Spragins and Kelli D. Spragins; great-grandchildren, Leland D. Morris, Alisha D. Morris and Lindsey D. Morris; and great-great-grandchildren, Avery D. Morris, Savannah D. Morris and Dyllan Morris. What a joyous welcome he received in heaven from his family members that went to prepare the way.
Services are entrusted to Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.

Trista Jo Riley Stewart

Mesquite - Trista Jo Riley Stewart was born October 31, 1983, and went to be with the Lord on June 21, 2005.
During her short time on earth, Trista touch many lives, those who knew her will never forget her smile, her laugh, but most of all her fighting spirit. We are truly blessed to have known her and to have been a part of her life. My storm has ended; I am looking at the rainbow.
She is survived by her husband, James R. Stewart; son, Joshua James; mother, Rebecca Jo Fink; fathers, Jerry Wayne Riley and Lee Nix; sisters, Tasha Fink, Jennifer Nix and Helen Nix; brother, Jessie Tyler Riley; grandparents, Floyd and Betty Cicio, Dale Conder and Ron and Karen Nix; great-grandmother, Ora Mae Breland.

Elisa Paz ‘Lisa Marie’ Ybarra

Odessa - Lisa Marie Ybarra, 61, passed away Saturday, July 2, 2005, at Medical Center Hospital.
She was born in Ojinaga, Mexico, on May 21, 1944, to Nicholas and Maria Paz.
She was a devoted and loving mother. She was a caring wife, and a well-known hairdresser, she was employed at Hair Odyssey. Lisa Marie was married to Tiburcio Ybarra Sr. for 40 years. He is a loving and caring husband, and they were best friends and loved to play bingo together.
She is survived by her husband, Tiburcio Ybarra Sr. of Odessa; daughter, Monika Ybarra of Odessa; sons, Michael Ybarra of Midland, and Nicholas Ybarra of Odessa; also brothers and sisters, Manuela Gonzales of Carlsbad, N.M., Basilica Hermosillio, Ernestina Morales and Luis Paz, all of Odessa, Mary Helen Castillo of Fort Worth, Jesse Paz, Hortensia Vasquez, Virginia Tarango and Linda Olivas, all of Odessa; thirty nieces; 28 nephews, 118 grand-nieces and grand-nephews; and five grandchildren, Nicholas Ybarra Jr., Noel Ybarra, Talia Ybarra, Gabryel Ybarra and Lauren Esquivel.
A Rosary will be at 7 p.m. today, July 6, at the chapel of Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 7, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with the Father Francis Njoku officiating. Interment will be at RoseHill County cemetery.
Arrangements are by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.

Ira Edward Dodd

BROWNWOOD - Ira Edward Dodd, 84, of Brownwood, passed away on Monday evening, July 25, 2005.
A private funeral service will be conducted.
Ed was born November 18, 1920, in Ballinger to Ira Eber Dodd and Rosa Brown Dodd. He is especially remembered for his smile and friendly ways and was an avid and excellent crappie fisherman. Formerly of Lake Buchanan Dam, Odessa and Hamlin, he had lived the last six years in Brownwood. During his lifetime, he obtained a pilot’s license, was a member of a school board and owned and operated gas stations until he retired in 1979. He married Mary Lee Winslett in Brownwood on December 8, 1940, and she preceded him in death on March 7, 2002.
He is survived by two sons, Ron and wife, Reena, of Brownwood, and Jimmie Dodd of Austin; and four grandchildren.
Davis-Morris Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Robert Gerry

LAGUNA WOODS, CALIF. - Robert Gerry, of Laguna Woods, Calif., better known as Bob to his family and friends, age 84, died at the University of California Irvine (UCI) Medical Center on Saturday, July 23, 2005, due to complications following a courageous and largely successful battle against cancer.
He was born May 11, 1921, in Paterson, New Jersey, to the late Samuel and Lena Cohen Gerry. He graduated from Morris High School in the Bronx, New York, in 1939. Bob served in the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II from August 1942 until September 1945, and was based in England from July 1944 until February 1945, seeing combat as a B-17 navigator with the rank of first lieutenant. On December 21, 1947, he was united in marriage to Catherine Hasson of Los Angeles, California.
After WWII, Bob attended the University of California in Los Angeles, Calif., and in 1950, received the degree of batchelor’s of science degree in chemistry. In 1951, he received a master’s degree in education from the University of Southern California. During the Korean War, Bob was called back to active duty by the U.S. Air Force in October 1951 with the rank of captain and made a career of the Air Force. While still on active duty, Bob attended the University of Texas in Austin, Texas, receiving the degree of doctor of philosophy in 1967. On August 1, 1972, Bob retired from the Air Force after more than 23 years of active service with the rank of lieutenant colonel.
Before his retirement from the Air Force, Bob began a second career as a teacher, first at American University and Catholic University in Washington, D.C., and then at the University of Texas at the Permian Basin, in Odessa, Texas, where the family moved in August 1972 after his retirement. Bob became very active in the Jewish community, serving as President of the local synagogue for two terms and also on various councils of the B’nai Brith and Agency for Jewish Education. In 1989, Bob retired and moved to Leisure World in Laguna Hills, Calif. where he became more active in both local and national Jewish organizations. For his contributions to
B’nai Brith, Bob was honored with the Akiba and Mainmonides awards.
Bob is survived by his wife, Catherine, his son Michael and his daughter and her husband Patricia and Randy Wilson. Their youngest son, Mathew, passed away in 1998.
Graveside funeral services for Robert Gerry will be held at 10 a.m. today, July 27, at Mount Sinai Memorial Park for his immediate family and friends only with the Rabbi Harry Silverstein officiating. After the funeral, there will be a memorial gathering in the recreation room, at 4010 Calle Sonora Oeste in Laguna Woods, Calif., from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., to which all relatives and friends are invited.
Further memorial services and celebrations of the life of Robert Gerry are planned in both Laguna Woods, Calif., and Odessa, Texas, in the next few weeks.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the UCI Dr. John Fruehauf Melanoma Research Fund, the American Cancer Society or the South Orange County Chapter of B’nai Brith.
