He was born into a family of 10 children on Sunday, February 4, 1934, to the late Ed and Lorena (Manske) Bolf in Tom Green County, Texas. Upon graduating from Kermit High School, James attended Texas Tech University on scholarship where he played football for the “Red Raiders.” He completed his education from Eastern New Mexico College in Portales, N.M., where he earned his degree in teaching. Soon after graduation his country called, and he proudly served in the United States Army, Specialist Fourth Class, in the 11th Airborne as a paratrooper and military policeman in Munich, Germany, from July 14, 1956, to July 3, 1958. After his tour of duty, he married Shirley Johnson in Portales, New Mexico, on May 28, 1959.

“Amos Fuddle 50 Years of Memories: 1947-1996” James (Booger) Bolf: Very few people know where he got the nickname Booger, but it was very deserving because he was a BOOGER on the field. He was an All-State center and played middle linebacker on the 1952 team. James was just a kid that liked to play and hit people, which he did very well and often and hard. His defensive talent was to the Jakects as Lee Roy Jordan’s was to the Cowboys, if the ball carrier stayed on the field, “Booger would get them.” He was also an outstanding basketball player for the Jackets. Sherman Cecil Imler Jr.
Odessa - Sherman Cecil Imler Jr., went home to be with the Lord on November 15, 2005, at the age of 71. He was born at home on January 5, 1934, in New Enterprise, Pennsylvania, to Sherman Cecil Imler Sr. and Margaret Anderson Imler. He was preceded in death by his parents. His mother died when he was a young boy and his stepmother Helen Blake Imler raised him and he grew to love her as much as his own mother.
Mr. Imler served in the U.S. Air Force. Sherman started Northwest Wreckers in 1977. He later owned and operated Sherman’s Wrecker’s from 1979 until his health failed. Sherman loved adventure, and had many during his lifetime. One included, running for Mayor of Odessa and coming in at second place. Another one of his adventures was racing cars at the Odessa Speed bowl on Friday nights. He also loved motorcycles and enjoyed collecting antique cars. He was an avid gun and coin collector as well.
Sherman will always be remembered as a notorious jokester, and for his “Tall Tails.” He enjoyed making you smile and he could always make you laugh. Sherman loved going to the coffee shops to visit with his family and friends. He was most famous for his quarter tips at all of the coffee shops in town. He loved going out to eat and was always looking for someone to join him. He was most happy when entertaining and cooking “his” specialty, ‘Spaghetti and Meatballs’, for all of his family and friends. Sherman loved animals; he had a compassion for both dogs and cats, and adopted everyone that came around. He enjoyed country, gospel, blue grass music and dancing. Sherman also enjoyed going to church and was a member of Hi-Way Temple Baptist for several years, and visited other various churches throughout the years.
Sherman was also a generous man, and he will always be remembered for the fruit he delivered every Christmas. He would buy a truck load of apples and oranges and take them to all the nursing homes and retirement centers and to those in need. Even after suffering a stroke, he was still determined to buy and deliver the fruit his self.
Sherman leaves behind many friends and family who will miss him, especially his best friend for over 40 years, Barton Vann. Sherman is survived by sons; Kenneth Imler and wife Cathy, Phillip Imler and wife Debbie, Billy Lee and wife Kathy, all of Odessa, also a son, Sherman Cecil Imler III and wife Lisa, of Danville, Illinois. He also leaves behind, one daughter; Ann Samuels of Houston, Texas, as well as a step-daughter; Beckye McKelvy, of Odessa, his sisters; Dorothy Caplan of Altoona, Pennsylvania, and Dolly Satterfield of Martinsburg, Pennsylvania, six granddaughters, four grandsons, and four great-grandchildren.
Also left behind are numerous stepchildren, and step-grandchildren, which he cared for and took care of during different periods of his life.
God saw you were getting tired and a cure was not to be, so He put His arms around you, and whispered “Come to Me.” With tearful eyes we watched you, and saw you pass away. Although we loved you dearly, we could not ask you to stay. A “Golden Heart” stopped beating, hard working hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best.
Sherman will be greatly missed, by all who knew and loved him. We will miss his stories of his adventures, from his younger years, his laughter, and his smile.
The family wishes to thank and acknowledge the outpouring of sympathy during his difficult time. Your words of kindness and your prayers will always be remembered.
Pall bearers will be; Mike Pool, Greg Elmore, Quentin McKee, Curtis Simons, Bud Evans and Joe Young.
Honorary pallbearers will be Barton Vann, Richard Babcock, Cecil Sweat and Grady Mingus.
Services celebrating his life will be held at 10:00a.m., in the Chapel at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, on Saturday, the 19th of November, 2005. Sherman will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Service arrangements are entrusted to Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home.
