Dennis R. Johnson

Odessa - Dennis Randal Johnson was born on June 16, 1954 in Corpus Christi, Texas, to Merion and Virginia Johnson.
Dennis attended Permian High School and served in the U.S. Army in Texas, Alabama, and Alaska as a helicopter crew chief. He worked as an oil field services mechanic. He was an avid model airplane builder and passed this craft on to his son Luke.
He married Brenda Stull in 1973 in Odessa.
He is survived by his former wife, Brenda Kelly of Odessa, his son Luke of Odessa, a granddaughter Samantha of Bon Weir, Texas, his father Merion Johnson of Midland, a brothers David of Odessa, and a sister Bethany Caldwell of Odessa. He was preceded in death by his mother, Virginia (Ginger) Johnson of Midland. Dennis was an Episcopalian.
Memorial services will be 10:00 AM Thursday in the Frank W. Wilson Chapel with Dr. Jimmy Braswell officiating.
The family requests that memorials or donations be made to Home Hospice.
Services entrusted to Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.

Wallace M. Reed

Odessa - Wallace M. Reed, age 85, passed away Saturday, December 3, 2005, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.
He was born April 2, 1920, to James L. and Julia (Forehand) Reed in Goldthwaite, TX. He served four years and ten months in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theatre. He married Melba L. Turner August 12, 1943, in Oklahoma City, Ok. He was an active member of Temple Baptist Church.
He attended Texas Tech University, and became an Eagle Scout in 1934, the youngest in Texas at that time. He enjoyed crossword puzzles, singing, and playing the piano, and many people enjoyed his handcrafted Christmas trees, airplanes, and miniature furniture. He enjoyed going to the lake, jet skiing at age 80 with Melba, and being with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
His parents, and his brother, Max H. Reed, all preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife Melba L. Reed, his daughter, Peggy Reed Powell and husband, Chris, sons, Guy W. Reed and wife, Rhonda, and Jon J. Reed and wife, Maggie, all of Odessa; six grandchildren, Jay Reed Soules, Mac A. Soules, Jill Reed Howerter, Matthew Storey Reed, Sarah Reed and James L. Reed; four great-grandchildren, Luke A. Soules, Grace E. Soules, Jett Reed Howerter, and Storey Garner Howerter; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
There will be a family visitation from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 6, 2005, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 7, 2005, at Temple Baptist Church with Dr. Griffin Jones and Rev. Johnny Thomason officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Chris Powell, Tony Storey, Matthew Storey Reed, Glen Hadley, Jay Soules, and Mac Soules. Honorary pallbearer will be George Lackey, Bobby Storey, J. L. Reed, Frank Ford, Bill Betzel & Joe Powell.
Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

Louis James Cole, M.D.

Odessa - Dr. Louis James Cole, 76, of Odessa, passed away November 6, 2005. Dr. Cole was born August 15, 1929, in Fort Worth, Texas. He was the son of Lt. Col. Hobert Lee Cole and Thelma Pauline Butcher Cole.
Dr. Cole graduated from high school in Salinas, California, in 1947, Texas Christian University with a Bachelor’s Degree in 1954; and from University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston in 1959.
Dr. Cole served his country in the United States Marine Corps from August 22, 1946, to July 19, 1948, and continued serving in the Reserves through January 3, 1951.
He married Dora Lee McDonald May 19, 1951, in Ardmore, Oklahoma. Dr. Cole moved to Odessa in 1978 where he practiced general medicine in Sherwood Medical Center until his retirement in 1999, ultimately practicing medicine for 42 years.
Dr Cole had many varied interests including: Treasurer of Phi Beta Pi Medical Fraternity; President of Osteon Fraternity, Twin Engine Airplane pilot, avid rock hunter, Master Faceter, Founding President Texas Faceters Guild, Past President Ballroom Dance Society, member Just Dance County Dance Club, member 45 Plus Dance Club- Midland, Northside Senior Citizen Dance Club- Odessa, and also Past President Rolling Rock Club.
Dr. Cole was preceded in death by son Louis J. Cole II and parents Lt. Col. Hobert Lee Cole and Thelma Pauline Cole.
Dr. Cole is survived by his wife of 54 years, Dora Lee Cole of Odessa, daughter Cheryl Lynn Craig of Odessa; grandchildren Shauna Lynn Craig of Mobile, Alabama, Krystal Jean Cole and Louis J. Cole III of Austin, and daughter-in-law Jeanie Cole Phillips and husband James Phillips of Austin, Texas.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, November 8, 2005, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
Services celebrating Dr. Cole’s life are scheduled at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 9, 2005, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Chapel.
Services are entrusted to Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.

Freddie Mae Crawford

Eastland - Freddie Mae Crawford, 86, of Eastland, departed this life at 10:00 A.M. Friday, November 4, 2005, in Eastland. Services will be 11 A.M. Wednesday in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Eastland with Pastor Bobby Turner officiating. Burial will follow in the Eastland City cemetery.
Mrs. Crawford was born August 17, 1919, in Elmo, Texas (near Terrell) to Mr. Huey and Mrs. Hattie [Trotter] Green. She had lived in Okra, Union, Loraine and Big Spring before settling in Eastland. She married Willie Crawford on August 27, 1983. She was the housekeeper and retired from the R.M. Sneed family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. Huey Green and Mrs. Hattie Trotter, sister, Evelyn Wilson and daughter Hattie Lee Elliot.
Mom, you will be greatly missed by your loving husband, Willie Crawford; sister, Amelia Govan; sons, Charles and wife Hattie, Roston, Huey and wife Glenda, Bobby and wife Artis, Glynn and wife Susan; daughter, Ruby Faye and husband Ollie; step-children, Loretta, Hamilton and Willie; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Dorothy Marie Hensley

Odessa - Dorothy Marie (Fowler) Hensley passed away Saturday, November 5, 2005, at Avalon Place. A memorial service will be held Thursday, November 10, 2005, at 2 pm at Odessa Funeral Home.
Dorothy was born September 15, 1928 in Guthrie, Ok., to Elmer James Fowler and Edna Mae Cook. They preceded her in death.
Dorothy will always be remembered for her strong will. This strong will helped her raise her four sons. She spent countless hours crocheting, knitting, and sewing. She was always willing to teach her sewing skills and cooking to anyone willing to listen. She could take a basket full of yarn and make the most beautiful dolls or take a bag of used clothes and make a wardrobe for her sons or grandchildren or one of her many star quilts.
Dorothy was always there for her family, day or night, all you had to do was call. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and keeping them entertained. She was an avid reader and loved watching the old western movies.
She is survived by; four sons, James Billings, George Billings and wife Rose, David Billings and wife Shirley, and Steve Currie and wife Jo all from Odessa. She had 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. The family wishes to thank Dr. Chittur Ramanathan, the staff of Avalon Place and the staff of 8 central at Medical Center Hospital.

Harold Vernon Woodard

Odessa - Harold Vernon Woodard, (Coach Woodard) went to be with his Lord on Sunday, November 6, 2005, after a lengthy illness. He resided at Seabury Nursing Facility in Odessa for the past 6 years. Harold was born on November 26, 1924 in Coleman to Allen and Bessie Lou Woodard who preceded him in death.
After graduating from Coleman High School in 1943, Harold served his country in the Navy during World War II. He then received his Bachelors and Masters degrees from Hardin-Simmons University. During his career, he taught algebra and coached track, football and basketball in the Abilene, Coleman and Odessa schools before retiring in 1985 from the Ector County Independent School District. After retiring from teaching, he returned to the carpentry trade taught to him by his father. Homes in Odessa and Abilene display his precise and beautiful handiwork.
Harold never met a stranger, and he loved to talk and laugh. He always looked forward to the fun he had with neighbors, Jim and Kay French. He enjoyed old movies, especially John Wayne movies, big band music and reading just about any book he picked up. Organizing and attending Coleman High School class reunions were nostalgic fun for him. He was a devoted fan of Tom Landry’s Dallas Cowboys. Harold loved to camp with his family in the summers at River Bend Camp on the Frio River. He was certain that heaven would look very much like the Frio.
Harold cherished his family. In 1947, he married the love of his life, Billie Jean Jackson. He loved his kids: son, Steve; daughter-in-law, Teresa; grandson, Jim William Woodard, age 13; and granddaughter, Katherine Bess Woodard, age 3; all of Abilene. His dear brother, Robert Lee Woodard, and sister-in-law, Norma, live in Marble Falls, Texas. He treasured spending time with them, as well as with his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews.
He was an enthusiastic member of Temple Baptist Church since 1967 and he couldn’t wait to see his friends in the Harvester’s Sunday School Class each week.
Most of all, Harold loved his Lord and Savior. His hope and favorite scripture was 2 Chronicles 7:14: “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”
Services will be under the direction of Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors in Odessa with Temple Baptist Church Pastor, Griffen Jones officiating. Services will be Wednesday, November 9th at 1pm at Temple Baptist Church. The family will welcome visitors between the hours of 6 pm and 8 pm on Tuesday, November 8th at Frank Wilson Funeral Home, 4635 Oakwood.
Pallbearers will be Albert Adams, David Boatright, Ray Christopher, Cotton Davis, Gene Fisher, Lyndon Fisher, Mourice Houze, Sam Rice, Roy Smotherman, and Jack Springer.
A second visitation will be held in Coleman, Texas between the hours of 11 am and 12:30 pm on Thursday, November 10th under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Coleman cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Temple Baptist Church “Possess The Land” building fund, P.O. Box 2778, Odessa, TX 79760 or to Home Hospice at 516 North Texas Avenue, Odessa, TX 79761.
The Woodard family would like to thank all the medical professionals, the kind and supportive staff at Seabury Nursing Home, and our great Home Hospice nurse and social worker for helping Harold during his illness. Thanks also to our dear friends and church members who have held us up along this journey. We will forever be grateful.

Floyd L. Wright

Odessa - Floyd L. Wright, age 77 of Odessa, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Sunday, October 30, 2005. He was born June 11, 1928, in Bronte, Texas.
Floyd was a retired heavy equipment operator for McVean and Barlow and KAMAC Construction.
Mr. Wright is survived by his wife, Mildred, of fifty-two years and 8 months, two daughters; Lanna Tennison and husband Bill of Odessa; Beverly Lynn of Odessa; three grandchildren Rhonda McKinney and husband Bobby of Odessa; Richard Tennison and wife Lori of Odessa, Jeramy Wright and wife Rebecca of Odessa; four great-grandchildren; Marcos Wright, Aaron Tennison, Brianna McKinney, and Zachary Tennison, all of Odessa, three sisters; Sylvia Kizer of Fruita, Colorado; Faye Head and husband Don of Newalla, Oklahoma, Georgia Meyers and husband Dale of Newalla, Oklahoma, one brother; Elzie Wright and wife Betty of Eaton, Colorado; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Mr. Wright was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Alma Wright; one daughter, Karen Wright; and four sisters and three brothers.
Floyd loved his family more than anything. He enjoyed farming, singing, cooking yeast rolls, telling stories and joking.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Drs. Ramanathan, Amaram, Brown and Kodi. We would also like to thank Odyssey Hospice for all their kindness, patience and love to our loved one, Floyd.
There will be a visitation all day on Tuesday, November 1st, 2005, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
Services, celebrating his life, will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Thursday, November 3, 2005, at Dunn Street Baptist Church, in Odessa, Texas, with Lynn Dudney, and Jimmy Braswell officiating. Interment to follow at Rosehill cemetery, in Odessa, Texas.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.

Brenda Gayle Patton

Odessa - Brenda Gayle Patton, age 46, passed away Saturday, October 29, 2005, at Hospice House in Odessa.
She was born February 10, 1959, to Leslie Lee and Pauline (Vanhooser) Crownover in Odessa. She married Tim Patton on March 7, 1976, and was a retail manager. She loved to read and work in her yard, but most of all, she loved spending time with her family.
She is preceded in death by her father, Leslie Crownover and a brother, Randy Crownover.
Survivors include her husband, Tim Patton of Odessa; sons, Jason Patton of Itasca, TX, and Josh Patton of Wolfforth, TX; mother, Pauline Crownover of Odessa; brother, Gary Crownover and wife, Stacy of Odessa; sister, Jan Crownover of Port Orange, FL; one granddaughter, Taylor Patton, and one expected grandchild.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, November 1, 2005, at Hubbard-Kelly Chapel. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
