David J. Wilson

BAKERSFIELD, CA - David J. Wilson of Odessa passed away Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2005 at 6 a.m.
He was born July 20, 1955 in Santa Ana, CA. to Mary Edge Wilson and Roy Wilson.
David was a longtime resident of Odessa and had many friends and relatives in the area. David was a long haul truck driver for several years.
He served in the Marine Corps and Army during the Viet Nam War and was very proud of his service to our country. He will be missed by all that knew him.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Kathy Self; his parents; grandparents, K.C. “Jake” and Mae Edge; uncle, Bill Edge; brother, Buddy Joe Wilson; and sister, Dina Fotta.
He is survived by his daughter, Jaime Wilson; and son, Jay Wilson; grandchildren, Brandon, Seth, Garrett, Kalee Sue, and Audrey Louise, all of Bakersfield, CA.
He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, D.G. and Linda Wilson of Odessa; uncles and aunts, Gary Edge of Odessa, Jimmy Don Edge of El Paso, Sheila Edge of Odessa, Linda Edge and Carol Reneau of San Angelo; cousins, Mr. and Mrs. Coy Edge, Mr. and Mrs. Scott Edge, Jimmy Edge, Darrell Edge, all of Odessa; Mr. and Mrs. Darrin Edge of Arkansas; and best friend, Donita Lane Pallonich of Odessa.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, Dec. 10, 2005, at 11:30 a.m. at the Ector County cemetery located on South Dixie Boulevard.
Honor guard and chaplain to be provided by the VFW.

William Duncan Ashmore

DENVER CITY - Services for William Duncan Ashmore, 92, of Denver City, will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 5th, at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Steve Brooks officiating.
Burial will be at the Denver City Memorial Park under the direction of Ratliff Funeral Home in Denver City.
Mr. Ashmore died Dec. 2nd. He was born Sept. 20, 1913, in Rockwood, TX. When a child, his family moved to Dallas. He married Lucile McCameron in Dallas on his 20th birthday in 1933. During World War II, he was an instructor in the Merchant Marines.
Mr. Ashmore first moved to Denver City in 1945 when he went to work for Shell Pipeline. The highlight of his career was a year in Borneo, Indonesia, for Shell in the mid 1960s. He did contract work for Shell for several years following his retirement. He loved to play golf and was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 69 years, Lucile; his parents, Ivan and Eva Pauline Ashmore; three brothers, Fred, Clydis and James; and two sisters, Clarice Ashmore and Eva Mae Murray.
Survivors include: two sons, Douglas and wife Clarice of Odessa and Steve and wife Donna of Lufkin; one daughter, Sandra Harmon and husband Jack of Denver City; a sister, Neita and husband Ray Bryan; and brother-in-law, Wayne Murray, all of Ballinger, TX; and two sisters-in-law, Bonnie Ashmore of Tulsa and Betty Hogan of Bryan; also 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and numerous great-great-grandchildren; and a host of friends.
Memorials may be given to First United Methodist Church and Yoakum County Senior Citizens.

Mary Gayle Hill Bowden

ODESSA - Mary Gayle Hill Bowden, age 45, passed away Friday, December 2, 2005, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.
She was born January 15, 1960, to Guy E. Jr., and Betty Hill in Houston, TX. She was raised in Kerrville, and received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Texas A&M University in May 1982, as an English Major with a Minor in Journalism. In September 1981, she received a Minor in Spanish from Santiago de Compestella in Spain.
She was a member of the Radio and Television News Director Association Foundation/RIAS Berlin Commission Management Development program and consulted with three International Networks in 1997. She was a motivational speaker at the Radio and Television News Director Association National Conferences from 1995 to the present. She was a founding member from 1994 to the present of the Minorities in Broadcasting (RTNDF), and involved with Leadership Texas as a media/community and state leader trained as a total quality manager from 1993 to present.
Gayle received the following awards and accommodations: the N.E.A — Award for the Advancement of Learning Through Broadcasting, the National Academy of Television Journalist Golden Viddy Award for Best Spot News, Anchors, Sports, Photography, Business and Children’s Programming (including Kidzone) (10), School Bell Awards (7) from the Texas State Teachers Association, the State Bar of Texas Gavel Awards (3), the Texas Governor’s Committee on People with Disabilities, Barbara Jordan Award (2), from Texas A.P. (more than 45 awards in all categories), Volunteer of the Year for Texas War on Drugs, and the Permian Basin Woman of Distinction media volunteer/community Specialist of the Year.
She received the Community Statesmen Award for Media in 1999.
She received the following special appreciation awards from the Permian Basin Businessmen’s Association, Meals on Wheels (for elderly nutrition), Make a Wish Foundation, Special Olympics, Prevent Blindness, Midland Hispanic Chamber, Odessa Hispanic Chamber (M.A.N.O.) and the Midland Black Chamber of Entrepreneurs.
She received the following awards and special recognition for Community service from Business Development Speaker Texas Tech and University of Texas of the Permian Basin, Junior League Odessa Community Advisory Board, the Texas Alliance for Education and the Arts, Trustee Museum of the Southwest, Las Manos Community Advisory Board (Hispanic Education), Leadership Texas Alumni, and from the Media Advisor to numerous non-profit organizations.
She was the Executive Director of News and Corporate Development for Drewry Group for KWES-TV, in Midland-Odessa from 1999 to 2002. She was the News Director for KWES-TV from 1991 to 1999.
Gayle, along with her friend and co-worker, John Foster, and the rest of the NewsWest 9 team, was most proud of taking KWES-TV from 3rd place to 1st place in the Odessa-Midland market.
From 1986 to 1991, she worked as an assignment editor, anchor, and senior reporter for KMID-TV in Midland-Odessa. She was an anchor, reporter, photographer, and producer for KOSA-TV in Midland-Odessa from 1982-1986, and for KAMU-TV in Bryan-College Station, TX from 1978 to 1982.
She married Bill Bowden in the Cayman Islands on January 19, 1989. She was involved with the Presidential Museum and Ellen Noël Museum. She has also been involved with the UTPB Media Curriculum Board and has received 50+ letters of accommodation from numerous civic groups and officials such as President Clinton, Governor George W. Bush, and former President George Bush.
Survivors include her husband, Bill Bowden of Odessa; and her parents, Guy E. Jr. and Betty Hill of Houston, sister, Susan Kay Hill Welch and husband, Jeff and children Jeffery, Ashley, and Taylor Welch, all of Cypress, TX.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Guy Sr, and Stella Hill and Dick W. and Mary L. Taylor.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Presidential Museum in Odessa, or to the National Kidney Foundation of West Texas in Midland.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 6, 2005, at New Energy cemetery in Belot, TX. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 Friday, December 9, 2005, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel in Odessa with Rev. Jimmy Braswell officiating.
Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

Walter G. Butler

ARLINGTON - Walter G. Butler, 94, passed away December 2, 2005.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Arlington Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Odessa. A visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. today at Arlington Funeral Home.
Walter was a member of the Fielder Road Baptist Church. He was the oldest living member of the Fort Worth Cats Baseball Team as well as being an active member of the Senior Citizen Program of Arlington. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Krista.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Gladys Butler of Arlington; son, Ray Butler and wife Gilda of San Antonio; daughter, Jane Paxson and husband Jim of Plano; grandchildren, Alethea, Walter and Gianna; great-grandchildren, Joshua, Gannon and Caleb; and a host of living relatives and friends.

Annie Jo Counts

ODESSA - Annie Jo Counts of Odessa passed away on Friday, December 2, 2005, at Hospice House after a lengthy illness.
She was born March 25, 1928, in Linden, TX to John Thomas and Annie Pauline Counts. She was reared by Sam and Jackie Rogers (her sister) who both preceded her in death.
She retired as a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell after thirty-five years of service.
Annie Jo was a faithful member of Sherwood Church of Christ.
She is survived by one brother, Sam Counts of Queen City, TX, and one sister, Della Robertson of Austin, TX, and numerous nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.Visitation will be held from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Sunday, December 4, 2005, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 5, 2005, at Sherwood Church of Christ on 49th and Dixie Streets in Odessa, with Lynn Money officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
The pallbearers will be friends of the family.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Odessa Christian School, 2000 Doran, Odessa, TX 79761.
Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

David S. Deaner

Indianapolis - David S. Deaner, passed away on October 20, 2005 at Indianapolis, IN. He was 47 years old.
He was born December 20, 1957 in Riverside, CA.
A long time resident of Odessa, he worked at Dyer Electronics, Harold’s Electronics and Southwestern Bell.
Due to ill health he moved to Indianapolis to be with his sister, Jill Ridge and family, and remained under their loving care until his death.
He leaves behind a sister, brother, stepmother, two stepsisters, two stepbrothers, three nieces, two great nieces, one great nephew and many friends.
He touched everyone with his unique sense of character.
His parents preceded him in death. Dave will be sorely missed.

Lou Ray Harp

MIDLAND - Lou Ray Harp of Midland, passed away Saturday, December 3, 2005.
She was born August 1, 1933 to Harty Marion Jacobs and Elinor Wilson Jacobs in Coffee County, Alabama. She was reared and educated in Pike City, Alabama until the age of 12 when she moved to Kermit, Texas. Lou Ray owned Andrews Answering Service from 1965 until she retired in 1985. She was a member of Alamo Baptist Church, the Desk & Derrick Club and the Business Women’s Association. Lou Ray, also known as MeMe cherished and was happiest when spending time with her four grandchildren. Lou Ray also took advantage of any opportunity she had to sing or dance. She loved life and although she endured much suffering – she displayed a positive attitude and outlook on life. We were all greatly encouraged by her strength and perseverance.
Lou Ray is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Sabrina and Dale Smith of Midland; granddaughters April and Ashly Smith of Austin, TX; Son and daughter-in-law Sgt. Major Tony Harp of Baghdad, Iraq and Dawn Harp who resides in Germany; Grandsons Zane and Zack Harp of Tampa Bay, FL; sister and brother-in-law Mamie and Lewis Bewley of Las Vegas, NV; and nephews Steve and Les Mauldin of Dallas, TX. Honorary Pallbearers will be Zane Harp, Zack Harp, Dale Smith, Steve Mauldin, Les Mauldin and Lewis Bewley.
Funeral services have been scheduled for 2:00 PM on Sunday, December 4, 2005 at Ellis Funeral Home Chapel. There will also be a Graveside service at Andrews City cemetery in Andrews, TX at 4:00 PM Sunday, December 4, 2005. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home.
Memorials may be directed to Hospice Midland, 911 W. Texas, Midland, TX 79701 and Meals-on-Wheels, 3301 Sinclair, Midland, TX 79707.

Bob Bowling

Bob Bowling, age 77 of Midland, died Tuesday, November 22, 2005 at his residence. He was born January 14, 1928 in Three Sands, OK to Leonard F. and Maxine Bowling.
Mr. Bowling moved to Odessa in 1958. He married Joyce Monigold, July 11, 1946 in Kansas. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a deacon at Crescent Park Baptist Church and taught Sunday School.
He is preceded in death by a brother, W.L. Bowling.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Bowling of Midland, sons and daughters-in-law, Tommy & Laurie Bowling of Midland, Bob, Jr. & Kathy Bowling of Midland, Bill & Donna Bowling of San Antonio, daughter, Debbie Rogers of Atlanta, GA, brother, J. Bowling & wife, Kathy of Mount Dora, FL, sister, Sue Melton of Cleveland, OH, 16 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
Family visitation will be held from 2-4 PM, Sunday, November 27, 2005 at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, November 28, 2005 at Crescent Park Baptist Church with Rev. Barry Owens officiating.
Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Services entrusted to Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
