Allie Mae Thorpe

Odessa - Allie Mae Thorpe of Odessa passed from her earthly home to her eternal Father on Wednesday, December 07, 2005 at Midland Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
She was born May 23, 1921 in Eastland County to William and Mary Howard.
She was preceded in death by her husband William R. Thorpe Jr. in 1994. They were married for 34 years.
She is survived by three sons and one daughter, Bill Thorpe and wife Kathy of Odessa, Dr. Curtis Thorpe and wife Julie of Beaumont, Texas, Dan Thorpe of Odessa and daughter Cindy Greenfield and her husband Daryl of Midland. She is also survived by a sister, Martha Williams of Abilene, Texas. She was extremely proud of her six grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Sallie, as she was known to most, had lived in Odessa since 1956. She was a longtime faithful member of Parkview Church of Christ. Central to her remarkably quiet and gentle spirit was her deep abiding faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. She was so proud of her family and loved each member in her own special way. Her loving-kindness and sweet smile will be greatly missed as she added much joy and happiness to all our lives. She is truly irreplaceable.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Friday December 9th at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. Funeral services will be held a 2:00 p.m. December, 10th at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Chapel with Charles Jones and Dennis Dillon officiating. Burial will follow at Rosehill cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Odessa Christian School, 2000 Doran, Odessa Texas.
Services entrusted to Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.

Bill Taliaferro

GRAPEVINE - Bill Taliaferro, 76, died Thursday, Dec. 8, 2005.
Memorial service: 3 p.m. Saturday at Lucas & Thompson Funeral Directors, 2000 W. College, Grapevine.
Memorials: May be made to the American Heart Association.
Mr. Taliaferro was founder and partner of Daniel Electric. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Nell, and twin brother, Jake.
Survivors: Wife, Mary; daughters, Linda Lybrand and Teresa Neves; sons, Lloyd “Buz”, Daniel, Charlie and Russell; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Frederick F. ‘Ding’ Tracy

FORT WORTH - Frederick F. “Ding” Tracy, 87, loving husband, father, and grandfather, died peacefully Wednesday, December 7, 2005.
Memorial service: Friends and Family will celebrate his life at 3:00 p.m. Saturday at All Saints Episcopal Church. Rev. Christopher Jambor will officiate. Interment : Northeast Harbor, Maine.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, Ding’s memory may be honored with a gift to All Saints’ Episcopal Church, 5001 Crestline Rd., Fort Worth, TX 76107; VITAS Charitable Fund, 2501 Parkview Dr., Suite 600, Fort Worth, TX 76102 or to a charity of choice.
Frederick Foster Tracy was born Nov. 8, 1918 to S.E. and Kay Tracy in Northeast Harbor, Maine. His father nicknamed him “Ding” because of his tendency to stumble during walks through the woods.
An engineering graduate of the University of Maine, he soon joined the U.S. Navy as a Lt. JG and served in the Pacific during WWII stationed in Hawaii. There Ding met his future wife, Jane Marie Gilman, a native of Cisco who was teaching on Maui.
After marrying, they moved to Odessa, where he began a long career as an engineer in the petroleum industry, at one time running his own company, Trayco. Ding lived in Odessa for 37 years, where his outgoing personality, honesty, and sense of humor helped him create and foster many enduring friendships. He was a lay reader and member of the vestry at St. John’s Episcopal Church.
When he retired, he and Jane moved to the lake where they both relaxed, and he was able to boat or play golf daily (making three holes-in-one along the way).
Ding loved life and people, and that love was returned in kind. He was preceded in death by his sister and brother, Tiffy Burr and Buss Tracy.
Survivors: His wife of 59 years, Jane; children, Gilman Tracy and his wife, Mary of Fort Worth, and Wynne Bredlow and her husband, Tony of Mesquite; grandchildren, Drew and Grace Tracy of Fort Worth.

Wayne Shackelford

Midland - Huey Wayne Shackelford, of Midland, died Saturday, December 17, 2005 at Midland Memorial Hospital. He is loved and missed.
Wayne was born September 7, 1950 to William Huey Shackelford and Minnie Vera Humphries Shackelford in Quanah, Texas. He graduated from Odessa High and served for two years in the U.S. Army stationed at Fort Myer, Virginia. Wayne and Gayle Newman were married December 16, 1981, and have two remarkable children, David and Nancy. Wayne worked in many different aspects of construction, and in 1991 he started his own construction business. Wayne became a highly respected and sought after independent contractor in the Midland-Odessa area. He had the vision of a true artist and felt passionately about his work.
Wayne loved his family, his work, his TV, and his fishing. The one thing he wanted most in his life was for his family to be safe and secure. He taught his children to appreciate the beauty of their surroundings, to honor the virtues of honesty and work, and to aim higher than the possible. He loved to find time for a good game of dominoes with the family, and he was a fierce competitor, never giving any quarter to anyone.
Nothing made Wayne happier than a week or two with his family at his fishing hole on the banks of the Nueces River. In the weeks preceding his death he pulled a 53 pound fish out of that river.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Jackie Don Shackelford and Howard Glenn Shackelford.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Gayle, and their children, David Wayne and Nancy Ann, all of Midland, TX; two brothers, Ronnie Shackelford of Odessa, TX; Jimmie Lee Shackelford and wife, Johnnie Faye, of Odessa, TX; three sisters, Norma Jean Nichols of Ackerly, TX; Kathleen Stanly and her husband, Eddie, of Houston, TX; and Darlene Barkowsky and her husband, Alton, of Patricia, TX.
Memorial services have been scheduled for 3:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 20, 2005 at Ellis Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Bob Hopkins officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home, 801 Andrews Hwy. Midland, Texas 79701 (432) 683-5555.
Honorary pallbearers will be Kevin Yates, Robert Henry, Lloyd Burrow, Terry Nichols, Dale Falk and Duane Reynolds. Memorials may be directed to the Wayne Shackelford Memorial Fund, c/o Permian Basin Area Foundation, 550 W. Texas, Suite 1260, Midland, Texas 79701.

Donald Everett Peck

Odessa - Donald Everett Peck, 85 died on December 11, 2005 in Fort Worth at the Harris Methodist Hospital. He was born on August 6, 1920 in Great Falls, Montana to James P. & Tilda Swanson Peck.
Donald was a Assemblies of God Minister and a retired missionary to Alaska. He lived in Haines, Alaska, and lived his last two months with his wife Doris on a extended vacation with their niece Betty Copeland of Denton, Texas.
Don, in preparation for the ministry, graduated from the Northwest College in Kirkland, Washington. He then served home missions churches in Montana and Alaska. He was a carpenter by trade and spent many years as a volunteer builder for the church. For about eight years he built churches, schools, and rest houses for the A.G Missions in West Africa.
A Graveside service will be held on Tuesday, December 20, 2005 at 3:00 p.m. at the Sunset Memorial Park in Odessa.
Donald is survived by his wife Doris of Haines, Alaska, by his Brother John Alton Peck and by his Sister Mary Arlene Tree by of Denton, Texas and By his Niece Betty Copeland of Denton, Texas.

James W. Scott
Edmond, Okla. - James W. “Jim” Scott, 75 passed from this life on December 16, 2005, after a lengthy illness. He was born on February 8, 1930 to Kenneth Scott and Jeffa Beck Scott of Rogers, Arkansas. He graduated from Rogers High School in 1948, and attended Fayetteville Business College.
Jim worked in the oilfield all of adult life and was known as a skilled salesman with high volume sales. He was transferred to West Texas when he worked for Ciba Geigy Pipe Systems. Jim considered West Texas his beloved adopted home, as he would say “The Land of the High Sky.”
He formed his own company, “Jimsco” in Midland, Texas in 1977. He sold the company in 1998 to move to Oklahoma to be near family. He was friend of Bill W., and enjoyed working in AA, to be a highlight of his mission to help his friends. He was a member of APL, SPE and ISOT. In 2003 he formed another “Jimsco” in Oklahoma City to handle pressure gauges and needle valves.
Jim was an avid and knowledgeable sports fan. He had refereed football and basketball for 50 years and was known as “Diamond Jim”. He was a member of the Southwest Officials Association. A proud season ticket holder of the Dallas Cowboys for many years. Known for his enthusiasm and generosity he shared many amusing stories with friends and family who accompanied him to the games.
He is survived by his wife, Rosa Scott at their home in Edmond, Oklahoma; One brother, Bob Scott of Springdale, Arkansas; One daughter, Becky Montgomery of Bethany, Oklahoma; Sons, Jimmy Joe of Lafayette, L.A., Kenneth Scott of Oklahoma City, Jesse Scott of Yukon; and stepchildren, Connie Burdick, Gary Scantlin and Michelle Scantlin all of Edmond, Oklahoma. 17 Grandchildren, 11 Great Grandchildren, 2 Aunts, cousins and numerous nieces and nephews and many close friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Beck Scott of Rogers, Arkansas. Jim was a member of Creekside Community Church. Pastor Richard Angell will officiate at the funeral service to be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday December 20, 2005 in the Chapel of Matthews Funeral Home located at 601 S. Kelly, Edmond, Oklahoma.

Winston Douglas “Buzz” Stice

Alpine - Winston Douglas “Buzz” Stice, 62, of Christoval passed away December 17, 2005 in Christoval. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 A.M., Monday, December 19, 2005 in Wall, Texas at St. Ambrose Catholic Church with Rev. Tom Barley as celebrant. There will be a rosary, 7:00 P.M, Monday December 19, 2005 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Alpine, Texas. A mass of Christian burial will be held 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, December 20, 2005 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church with Rev. Miguel Alcuino as celebrant with burial to follow at Elm Grove cemetery in Alpine, Texas. Buzz was born March 25, 1943 in Odessa, Texas to his parents Maurice James and Alice Ione Holmes Stice. He attended Elementary School in Bakersfield, Texas and Iraan, Texas. He graduated from high school in Midland, Texas and then went on to receive his BBS from Sul Ross State University and then his MBA from there as well. Buzz served in the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1970 and served in the U.S. Army reserves from 1970 – 1972. He started out at the young age of 14 working for Safeway in Midland and ranched near Big Lake with a great Uncle in the summers. Buzz went to work for Safeway in Lubbock and Alpine and then went on to work for the United Parcel Service for 28 years as a delivery driver. He met and later married Johnnie Mae Feist on December 26, 1964 and together they shared almost 41 beautiful years of marriage together. Buzz was a loving husband, dad, grandpa, brother, uncle and friend who lived for his grandchildren and had a very deep faith and love for the Lord. We will dearly miss him! He was preceded in death by his father Maurice James Stice and one daughter Jill Marie Stice. Buzz is survived by his loving family: Johnnie Mae Feist Stice, of Christoval; Son and daughter-in-law: John Herbert and Sharon Stice, of Pell City, AL.; Daughter and Son- in-law: Jennifer Lyn and Marcus Gerngross, of Wall, TX; Mother and Step-Father: Alice Ione and Floyd Scovel, of Irving, TX.; Sister and Brother-in-law, Sheri and Harold DeLoach, of Hewitt, TX.; Sister and Brother –in-law, Bennie K. and Jack Cornwell, of Ft. Worth, TX.; and Sister and brother-in-law: Tammy and Chris Cooper, of Sherman, TX; Seven Grandsons, one Granddaughter and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers for the service will be his brothers-in-law, Harold DeLoach, Jack Cornwell, Chris Cooper, Nolan Niehues, Paul Feist, Jr., James Feist, Wesley Boyd and oldest Grandson Mark Stice. Esther Lee Berthot

Odessa - Esther Lee Berthot, 79, of Odessa, formerly of Chanute, KS, passed away Sunday, September 11, 2005 at Parks Methodist Retirement Village.
She was born October 21, 1925 in Big Creek, Kansas to Arthur and Gladys Whitworth Franklin. She was a homemaker and loving mother of seven children. She served as Brownie and Girl Scout Leader and Neighborhood Chairwoman of the Meadowlark Girl Scout Council for several years.
She is survived by her son, Clay Berthot of Locust, N.C., daughter, Lisa Swan & son-in-law Peter Haliotis of Phoenix, AZ., daughter Bridget Brush & husband Barry of Charlotte, N.C., daughter Mary Janae Berthot of Phoenix, AZ., daughter Polly McGuire & husband Kelly of Odessa, daughter Ellen Sandoval & husband Rueben of Cottonwood, AZ., grandchildren, Mary and James Poertner, Amanda Perez, Christos Haliotis, Chelsea Shugert, Kevin Pratt, Lindsay Brush, Mallory, Hillary and Molly McGuire, Madisen, Morgan, Carson, and Cortlin Sandoval, and 3 great-grandchildren, Rafael and Benecio Perez, and Isaiah Haliotis, her brother, Marion (Tobe) and Mary Betty Franklin of Zillah, WA., sister-in-law Alice Franklin of TN, and sister-in-law Myra Jean Franklin of KS; and many nieces and nephews.
Esther was preceded in death by her daughter, Christine Ann Poertner, two brothers, Gene Franklin and Glen Franklin and her parents.
A graveside service will be held in Chanute, KS, on September 25, 2005, 6:00 p.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic cemetery at 7th and Allen.

Jimmy Marshall Franklin

Ruidoso, N.M. - JIMMY MARSHALL FRANKLIN, legendary airshow pilot and treasured father, brother, uncle, and friend performed his final earthly airshow on Sunday, July 10, 2005 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Canada. He and close friend and airshow associate, Bobby Younkin, died in a midair collision of their aircrafts.
Jimmy was born to Oliver Gene “Zip” and Valerie Jones Franklin on May 16, 1948 in Lovington, New Mexico. He learned to fly while sitting on his dad’s lap, helping in the family ranching and aviation businesses. He soloed at age 12, taught himself aerobatics, and at 19 began a 38-year world-renown career—-Franklin Air Show.
Jimmy faced a potentially career-ending heart condition seven years ago, but health and career were fully restored with the help of world-class surgeon, friend, and fellow airshow performer—-Dr. Raymond Vetsch, Freeman Heart Institute, a heart-valve donor, and God. The Franklins will be forever thankful.
Jimmy is survived by Kyle Franklin—-beloved son and able business partner, fellow airshow performer and wing-walker; devoted sister Terry Franklin, brother and sister-in-law, Steve and Jana White Franklin; nephew Soren and niece Mariah Sky Franklin; as well as innumerable friends and fans.
Join us in celebration of his life on October 17, 11:00 am, at First Baptist Church, 270 Country Club Drive, Ruidoso, NM.
