Edith Estelle Martin

Odessa - Edith Estelle Cudd Aubrey Martin went to be with the Lord on December 24, 2005, at her daughter’s home in Odessa.
She was born July 29, 1910, in Bryan County, Okla. Mrs. Martin was the daughter of Leonard T. and Ruba Ada Seldner Cudd. She attended schools in Capitol Hill in Oklahoma City, until she married in 1927. She raised her family and resided in Oklahoma City for the next 35 years. She then moved to Carney, Okla., and lived there for almost 30 years, where she and her husband, George, raising two grandchildren, were members of the First Baptist Church. Mrs. Martin moved to Odessa, Texas, to be near family in 2004.
Mrs. Martin was a housewife. She taught the TEL Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church in Carney for 27 years. She played a part in public activities in Carney and for several years was honored as being “Carney’s Oldest Citizen.” She will also be remembered by many friends whom she had “chauffeured” and been a “care-taker” to. She was active in, and secretary for, Senior Citizens for a number of years until she was unable to attend.
Mrs. Martin wrote poetry for a number of years; many of her poems appeared in the Perkins Journal. Among a group from all over the world, she was honored by the World of Poetry in Anaheim, Calif., and was a recipient of a trip to receive rewards from that organization.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Martin, in 1980; her parents; one brother; one sister; two sons; one daughter; and two granddaughters.
She is survived by three daughters, Eloise and husband Ed Breault of Clovis, Calif., Delores and husband John Harper of Oklahoma City, and Margaret and husband Ken Spradley of Odessa; one sister, Vivian Laverne Eggleston of Minneapolis, Kan.; seven grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren as well as three nephews and three nieces.
Mama and Grandma Martin was a legend to her children and grandchildren. Until she became too ill physically, she could be seen walking around the Lincoln Towers Retirement Home every morning. She was a great example to her heirs by loving her Bible, reading it and living it.
Services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005, at the First Baptist Church in Carney. Interment followed at Carney cemetery

Ruben Gonzales Prado

Midland - Ruben Gonzalez Prado, 58, accountant, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, Dec. 22, 2005 at Midland Memorial Hospital after a long battle with Lupus.
Memorial Service for Ruben Gonzales Prado will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 3, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Arrangements are by Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home.
Ruben was born May 13, 1947 in Fort Stockton. He served 4 years in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War.
Mr. Prado attended the University of Texas of the Permian Basin and received a BS degree in Accounting and Business Administration. Ruben worked as an accountant up until the last 8-years of his life.
survivors wife, Diane of Odessa; son, Ruben P. Prado and his wife Janetta, of Midland; daughter, Shannon R. Isarraraz, and her husband Juan, of Del Rio; brother, Manuel Prado Jr. and his wife Jan of Dallas; and five grandchildren, Katherine A., Thomas A. and Sarah M. Prado all of Midland; Raylor R. and Brian J. Isarraraz both of Del Rio.

Larry Glynn Whitmore

Odessa - Larry Glynn Whitmore, 54, of Odessa, passed away Thursday, Dec. 29, 2005 at Medical Center Hospital.
The family will have a visitation from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, January 2, 2006 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
Services celebrating his life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 3, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Terry Wright officiating. Interment will follow. Arrangements are by Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home
Larry was born November 30, 1951 to D. R. and Suzanne Teague Whitmore in Odessa, where he graduated of Odessa High School in 1970. He married Pamela Jan Owens Whitmore, on April 20, 1993.
Mr. Whitmore was a successful Project Designer for Sivalls, Incorporated, in Odessa, Texas.
Larry is survived by his wife, Pam of Odessa; son, Rodney Greene and wife Shea Lynn of Odessa; daughter, Charlotte Long Whipp and husband Jeff; parents, D.R. and Suzanne Teague Whitmore of Odessa; sister, Sue Jones of Odessa; granddaughters Mollie and Macie Whipp all of Mebane, N.C.

Jose ‘Joe’ Angel Jacques

Midland - Jose “Joe” Angel Jacques, 61, of Midland, died Wednesday, December 28, 2005, at his residence.
He was born January 6, 1944 in Odessa to Trinidad Jaquez and Frances Garza. He was a Christian Catholic and a welder.
He united in marriage to Lazara “Sarah” Hinojos April 8, 1965 in Odessa and to this unification were born Three Children.
He is preceded in death by Parents, and Brother: Fred Jacques Sr. He is survived by his wife Sarah H. Jacques, of Midland: Son: Joe Rey Jacques of Odessa, Daughters: Donna J. Barrientes and husband David Jr.; Velma J. Vega and husband Mike both of Odessa; 7-Grandchildren: Ashley; Raquel; Desirea; Philip; Joshua; Robert Anthony; Isiah; 7- Great-Grandchildren, Alexandra, Christian; Xavier; Arianna, Phillip Jr.; Aubrey, Keanu; along with numerous nephews, nieces cousins and lots of friends.
We the family would like to take this time to express to each and everyone of you; a heartfelt embrace for all your wonderful care and love expressed to My Husband and to My Family with all your prayers; floral food offerings, and especially your presence with us during this most difficult time. May God Bless You all abundantly.
A rosary was recited Friday December 30, 2005 at 7 p.m. at Odessa Funeral Home Chapel. Mass was celebrated at 2 p.m.at today Saturday December 31, 2005 at St. Joseph`s Catholic Church with Rev.Joseph Uecker officiating. Interment followed at RoseHill cemetery.

Dustin Jerome Powell

Odessa - Dustin Jerome Powell, 21, of Odessa passed away Sunday, September 18, 2005 at Medical Center Hospital. He was born January 19, 1984 in Odessa to Arthur Lee & Denise Powell.
He is preceded in death by his mother Denise Christie in 1994.
He is survived by his grandparents, Robert B. and Billie Joyce Powell of Odessa, half brothers, Damien A. Christie of Odessa, Dennis Christie of Jacksonville, FL., Derrick Prince of San Angelo, Carl Powell and Bert Powell both of San Antonio.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 22, 2005 at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ivy Shelton officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

Dennis Charles Basinger

Odessa - Dennis Charles Basinger, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, age 87 of Odessa passed away Monday, January 2, 2006 at Medical Center Hospital.
Dennis was born August 16, 1918 in Stillwell, Oklahoma to Charles Allison Basinger and Iva Butler. He married Virginia Iris Basinger January 17, 1942 in Claremore, Oklahoma. He worked for Phillips Petroleum Company for 36 years, retiring in 1980. Dennis was a 32 degree Mason since 1944. He moved to Odessa, Texas in 1963 from Bartlesville, Oklahoma. A Christian, Dennis was a supporter of Asbury United Methodist Church.
Dennis’ family was the love of his life and he is survived by his wife Virginia Iris Basinger of Odessa; son Dennis Michael Basinger and wife Susan of Houston, Texas; daughter Kathy Jean Evans and husband Dennis of Houston, Texas. Grandchildren Dennis Wayne Basinger of Houston, Texas, David Michael Basinger of Austin, Texas, Jason Ryan Evans of Houston, Texas and Tyler Michael Evans of Houston, Texas. Also great grandsons Dennis James Basinger and Matthew Christopher Basinger both of Houston.
Dennis was an avid hunter and fisherman. His memory will be cherished by his wife and family and all who knew him.
Visitation will be Thursday, January 5, 2006 from 6 pm to 8 pm at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10:00 am Friday, January 6, 2006 at Asbury United Methodist Church with Pastor Paul E. Bauernfeind officiating. Burial will be 10:00 am Monday January 9, 2006 in Chelsea City cemetery in Chelsea, Oklahoma.
Services entrusted to Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.

Eloisa Hernandez

Odessa - Eloisa Hernandez, 88 years of age, passed away on January 3, 2006 at her Odessa residence. She was born on November 15, 1917 in Ojinaga, Mexico to Dario and Aurora Amanco. She was a homemaker and Catholic. She is survived by her sons; Baudelio Hernandez, Paulino Hernandez both of Odessa, Jesus Manuel Hernandez of Presidio, daughters; Maria Elena Zertuche, Gloria Ramirez, Elvira Rodriguez, Cruz Tarango all of Odessa, Consuelo Zertuche of Midland, brothers; Federico Amancio, Roberto Amancio both of Ojinaga, Mx, sisters; Ernestina Hernandez of Presidio, Margarita Olivas of Ojinaga, Mx. 41 grandchildren and 84 great grandchildren, 8 great great grandchildren. Rosary will be recited on Thursday at 7:00 PM at Odessa Funeral Home Chapel. Mass will be celebrated on Friday January 6, 2006 at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with the Reverend Mark Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill cemetery. Pallbearers will be Baudelio Hernandez Jr., Luis Tarango Jr., Lionel Zertuche Jr., Rodolfo Hernandez, Eric Rodriguez and Rigoberto Ramirez.
Services by Odessa Funeral Home.

Charles Whittington Hiestand

Odessa - Charles Whittington Hiestand, 72, of Odessa, passed away Tuesday, January 3, 2006 at his residence. He was born November 16, 1933 in Holland, Michigan to his parents Charles Oliver and Louise Whitcomb Hiestand.
Mr. Hiestand came to Odessa in 1976. He married Ray Ann Shilling on December 19, 1991 in Odessa. He was a machinist and a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He was in the U.S. Navy.
He is survived by his wife, Ray Ann Hiestand of Odessa, his 2 sons, Daniel Hiestand of Odessa and Steve Hiestand of Lakeland, Florida, his daughter, Patricia Bennett of Aiken, South Carolina, his sister, Mary Ball of Saugatuck, Michigan, and 5 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 10:00 AM, Saturday, January 7, 2006 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Fr. Francis Frey officiating. Burial will be at Rosehill cemetery.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

Doyle Manford Kirby

ODESSA - Doyle Manford Kirby, 79, passed away January 2nd in the arms of his family.
He was born December 17, 1926, in Bokhoma, OK, to Earl and Alice Kirby. He was raised on a farm at Harris, OK, and graduated from Haworth High School where he was the captain of the boxing team. After graduation, he entered the Army in the 13th General Hospital Division during WWII.
He returned to Idabel, OK, in March 1947, and married Delora Goodin. Looking for work, his car ran out of gas in Odessa, TX, in June 1947. Since there were no vacant motel rooms, he slept on the courthouse lawn.
He was hired as a roughneck by Skaggs & Tullous Drilling in 1947, and in 1948, he was employed by Phillips Petroleum. While working for Phillips, he contracted with FHA to remodel their repossessed homes. In 1962, he started his own independent contractor business for Humble Pipeline, later Exxon. He also owned Kirby Paint and Repair Co. until retiring in 1994. He was a Master cabinetmaker and woodworker, was a licensed gun dealer, and owned K-Bar Arms. After retiring, he was a partner with his wife in Red Door Antiques.
His hobbies were family, fishing, hunting, traveling, and woodworking. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church.
A strong, quiet, Christian man, he believed in absolute honesty and integrity and giving a man a day’s work “plus” for a day’s pay.
Our “Daddy” and “Pappy” is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Delora Kirby; son, David Kirby and wife Linda of Lamesa; daughter, Cindy Lee and husband Larry of Odessa; grandson, Greg Kirby, wife Christi, and their three children, Gregory, Hannah, and Matthew of The Woodlands; granddaughter, Amanda Hart and husband Jayson of Lamesa; grandson, Clint Lee and wife Cassie of Odessa; grandson, Dustin Lee of Odessa; and two sisters, Louise Bell of Haworth, OK and Ruth Layton of Oakgrove, LA.
There will be formal visitation Wednesday night from 7 til 9 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
Sunset Memorial Chapel services will be Thursday, January 5, 2006, at 2 p.m., Rev. Jimmy Braswell officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
The family will be receiving guests at 75 Shiloh Rd, Odessa, TX.
