Rykin Cole Rogers

Odessa - Rykin Cole Rogers, a precious angel who blessed this earth for only two months and eleven days returned to Heaven Monday, February 19, 2007, from his home in Odessa. He was the son of Eric Rogers and Allison Blamey. They celebrated his birth on Friday, December 8, 2006.
Those left to cherish his sweet memory are his parents, Eric Rogers and Allison Blamey; his maternal grandparents, John Foss Blamey Jr. of Odessa and Keely Ann Pack of Fort Worth; his paternal grandparents, Jay and Sue Rogers of Odessa; one brother, Franklin Allen Blamey of Odessa; and numerous aunts and uncles.
Graveside services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 23, 2007, at Rose Hill cemetery with Pastors Joe and Alicia Harker officiating.
Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel of West Odessa.

Anna L. (Cramer) Elam

MONAHANS - Anna L. (Cramer) Elam, age 84, of Monahans (formerly of Fort Stockton) passed away Thursday, February 22, 2007, at the Monahans Managed Care Center in Monahans.
She was born March 9, 1922, in the state of Chihuahua, Mexico. She was a secretary.
Graveside services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, February 24, 2007, at East Hill cemetery in Fort Stockton.
Services are under the direction of Harkey Family Funeral Services.
Survivors include her daughter, Sandra Gene Clay of Dunn; 2 brothers, Roy Cramer of Euless and William Cramer of El Paso; 8 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Elam; her daughter, Claudia Ann Burnett; her brother, Bart Cramer; and her sisters, June Wetzig LeBlanc and Celia Hardaway.
Anna became a naturalized citizen of the United States in 1945 in El Paso. She worked as a secretary at Firestone Tire and Supply in Fort Stockton.
She was an avid quilter and painted china. She was also a fisherman, but would not eat a fish. She was also an archer. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Fort Stockton.

Sean Michael Dennis

Odessa - Sean Michael Dennis, 41, of Odessa, passed away Tuesday, February 20, 2007. He was born in Odessa, Texas, on August 15, 1965. He graduated from Permian High School in 1983, and then went onto Texas Tech, where he received his Bachelor’s in chemistry. He received his Master’s degree in chemistry from the University of Texas and thereafter taught at Westlake High School in Austin, Texas. He then moved to New York City and worked for The College Board. In 2003, he moved back to Odessa to take care of his mother. Most recently, he taught AP chemistry at Permian High School. While teaching, he grew to love and care for all of the students he taught. He was also the Science Department Chair at Permian. He enjoyed and loved his family, friends and pets.
Sean is survived by three brothers, James Dennis of San Antonio, Texas, and Patrick Dennis and Chris Dennis, both of Odessa. His sister-in-law, Amanda Dennis of Odessa and his niece, Allison Dennis of Houston, Texas, also survive him.
There will be a memorial service Friday, February 23, 2007, at 5:00 p.m. at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Home in Odessa, Texas. The family requests memorials are to be made to the National Foundation of Infectious Disease or any AIDS Research Foundation.
Services entrusted to Frank Wilson Funeral Directors.

Fred P. Jimenez Sr.

Odessa - Fred P. Jimenez Sr., age 80, of Odessa, passed away Tuesday, February 20, 2007, at Medical Center Hospital. He was born July 5, 1926, in Marfa, Texas, to Francisco and Maria Jimenez.
He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict and was a supervisor for Industrial Insulation. He married Elva Aguirre in 1945 in Marfa, Texas.
He is survived by his wife, Elva Jimenez of Odessa; sons, Mike Jimenez of Odessa, Raymond Jimenez of San Antonio and Fred Jimenez Jr. of Odessa; daughters, Brenda Sue Jimenez and Bette Hill, both of Odessa; brothers, Concepcion “Chon” Jimenez of Odessa; sisters, Flora Lara of San Antonio and Trineda Treviño of Odessa; 19 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and 32 great-great-grandchildren.
A rosary will be held Friday, February 23, 2007, from 7-9 p.m. at Frank Wilson Funeral Directors.
A Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 24, 2007, in the chapel of Frank Wilson Funeral Directors with Father Rosario Hill officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Services are entrusted to Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.

Connie DeLoise Hammond

Odessa - Connie DeLoise Hammond of Odessa was born July 4, 1954, in Marlin, Texas, to A.J. and Lucille Hammond. Connie departed this life Monday, February 19, 2007, at Medical Center Hospital at the age of 52.
Connie at a young age, accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, becoming a devout member of Rose of Sharon Baptist Church, where she came to dearly love her Pastor and wife Reverend J.W. and Patsy Hanson. Connie attended public schools here in Odessa, graduating from Ector High School in May 1972. In 1974, she received her degree in Business Administration from Ranger Jr. College. She was employed as a sales representative with Sears Roebuck & Company.
Connie is preceded in death by sister, Mary Hammond and nephew, Adam Marshall Jr.
Connie leaves to cherish her memories parents, A.J. and Lucille Hammond of Odessa; son, Jhametrick Hammond of Odessa; sister, Rose (Don) Hammond of Odessa; brother, Donald Wayne Hammond of College Station, TX; granddaughters, Destiney and Desiree Hammond of Odessa; God sister, Claudette Small; God brothers, Trey Session and Eddie Stevenson; and nieces, Sheniqua (Jerry) Thomas, and Katrina (Adam) Hammond, all of Odessa. She is also survived by her best friend who was by her side through everything Evelyn Clinton Scott, her favorite aunt Jean Johnson of L.A., California, a person who was very helpful to her Ethel Blacknall of Odessa and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and lots of friends.
We the Hammond family would like to take this time and express our utmost sincere gratitude to each and every one of you for all your prayers, floral, food offerings and especially your presence with us during this most difficult time, a special gratitude to the C.C.U. staff at Medical Center Hospital for all the wonderful loving care given to Connie. May God bless you all abundantly.
Pallbearers will be Butch Dixon, Larry Farris, Darnell Griffin, Billy Hill, Stephen Jenkins, Reggunal O’Neal, Albert Price, Roger Searcy, Eddie Stevenson and Frederick Thomas.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, February 24, 2007, at Rose of Sharon Baptist Church with Reverend J.W. Hanson officiating. Interment to follow at Rose Hill cemetery.

Mildred Ola McDonald

Odessa - Mildred Ola McDonald, 100, of Odessa, passed away Wednesday, February 21, 2007, at Parks Methodist Retirement Village. She was born January 4, 1907 in Thurber, T,X to Arthur Clarence and Ada Eugenia Hull. She married H. H. (Rosie) McDonald, December 1934 in Iraan, TX. He preceded her in death in 1989.
Mildred, known to her family as “Gammy,” grew up and attended school in Thurber. She was a licensed vocational nurse while living in Wink and she loved children. She was a homemaker, a good cook and always active in the Baptist Church. She served in the Womens Missionary Union, Girls Ambassadors, and as a Sunday School Teacher.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and her daughter, Bettye Jean Wallace.
She is survived by her son, Pete McDonald and his wife, Ann of Odessa; (6) grandchildren, Gregg McDonald and wife Jana of Odessa, Gary McDonald of Dallas, Matthew McDonald of Irving, Vance Wallace and wife LaQuita of Boerne, Cristy Wallace of Aledo and Leslie Burns of Wylie; and (7) great-grandchildren, Luke, Sarah, Rachel, Jordan and Micah Wallace and Grace and Gabe McDonald.
There will be a visitation from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, February 23, 2007, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 24, 2007, at the Hamlin cemetery in Hamlin, Texas with Rev. Tommy Parker officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the Immanuel Baptist Church Youth Group.

Darcy Lynn Babcock

Odessa - Darcy Lynn Babcock, 41, of Westport, Washington, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, Feb. 17, 2007, at Harbor View Hospital in Seattle, Washington.
Darcy was born at home in Bow, Washington, July 23, 1965. She attended Eatonville High School where she competed in many sports including her favorite, swimming. After completing her graduate requirements she obtained a computer technician certificate.
Darcy moved to Odessa, Texas in 2000, to be closer to her mother Barbara Hughes and her husband Floyd. While in Odessa, she was employed by Hughes Oilfield Transportation Inc., where she enjoyed driving a Hot Shot Truck. Mounting health problems prompted a move back to Washington.
Darcy was an avid sports fan, from football to car racing to hockey. She was a real Jackalopes fan and continued to keep up with the team on her computer. While in Washington, Darcy’s favorite pass time was flying kites.
Darcy is survived by her partner, Tandy Schvaneveldt; three children, Jedadiah Babcock and Autumn Schvaneveldt, both of Westport, Washington, and Brian Babcock of Odessa, Texas; parents, Aaron and Ardie Babcock of Booney Lake, Washington and Barbara and Floyd Hughes of Odessa, Texas; brothers, Gene Hughes of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Steven Hughes of Odessa, Texas; grandparents, Irvin and Paula McCormack of Spokane, Washington; aunts and uncles, Shari Slape of Odessa, Texas, Gloria and Alan Wolslegel of Rochester, Washington, Val and Tina Call of Del City, Texas. She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews, as well as cousins and a host of friends here in Odessa, as well as Washington.
She is proceeded in death by grandparents, Dave and Fern Larrabee.
Local memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, March 1, 2007, at Cumberland Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Jimmy Braswell officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Meals on Wheels of Odessa, Texas.

Pauline Marjorie (Flook) Smith

Canton, Kan. - Pauline Marjorie (Flook) Smith, 81, passed away Monday, February 26, 2007, at Cross Timbers Care Center in Flower Mound, Texas. Graveside services will be held Friday, March 2, 2007, in the Canton Township cemetery in Canton, Kansas.
Mrs. Smith, known affectionately as MS, was born on April 24, 1925, in Canton, Kansas. For the past 50 years, she lived in West Texas, in both Odessa and Borger, with her beloved husband, Charles. She was a retired schoolteacher and a member of Faith Covenant Church of Borger. She graduated from Kansas State University and was a lifelong member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority. She taught 7th and 8th grade English for many years in the Ector County and Phillips Independent School Districts where she influenced many Texas students with her outlandish and always memorable classroom teaching style.
She was married to Charles N. Smith on April 5, 1947 in Wichita, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; her parents, Alva and Lema Flook; and two of her four sisters, Virginia and Georgia. MS is survived by two sisters, Mildred of Eugene, Oregon and Hazel of Newton, Kansas; three sons, Charles Smith and wife, Reenie, and Richard “Max” Smith and wife, Ann, all of Austin, Texas, and Scott Smith and wife, Cindy, of Athens, Texas; two daughters, Virginia Boudreau and husband, Tony, of Flower Mound and Barbara DiVesta and husband, Dave, of Colorado Springs; 27 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Donations, in lieu of flowers, can be made to the Faith Covenant Church benevolence fund, 1501 S. Florida St., Borger, Texas, 79007.

San Juana Gaona

On Monday February 26, 2007, in our Heavenly Kingdom, our beloved wife and mother San Juana Gaona was met by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
San Juana, 67, of Odessa, surrounded by her loving family, passed away at Medical Center Hospital. She was born April 28, 1939, in Dilley, Texas to Romaldo and Juana Gonzales Gomez. She was a Christian Catholic, a homemaker and a member of the Guadalupanas at Our Lady of San Juan Catholic Church in Odessa. She united in marriage February 26, 1956 to Carlos Luis Gaona in Colorado City, Texas.
Proceeding in death are: parents Romaldo and Juana Gomez; daughters, San Juana Alvarado and Sulema Gaona; sisters, Maria Gonzales, Delfina Gonzales and Blasa Rizo; brothers, Blaz Gomez, Jose Gomez and Beningno Gomez. She is survived by husband Carlos Luis Gaona Sr. of Odessa; sons, Carlos Luis Jr. and wife Estela Gaona, George and wife Cecelia Gaona, and Jose Juan “Joey” and wife Emily Gaona, all of Odessa; daughters, Rose Anna and husband Duffy Alderfer, Rebecca and husband Rosario Manriquez, Sulema and husband Raul Mendoza, and Erica Gaona, all of Odessa; brothers, Abran Gomez, Romaldo Gomez, and Marvin Gomez, all of Devine, TX; 20 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and lots of friends.
We the Gaona family would like to take this time and express our utmost sincere gratitude to each and every one of you for all your prayers, floral, food offerings and especially your presence with us during this most difficult time. A special gratitude to all her nurses and the staff at Medical Center Hospitals’ CCU 5th Floor (Central) for all the wonderful loving care given to my wife and mother. Mass is set for 11 a.m. today, Wednesday, February 28, 2007, at Our Lady of San Juan Catholic Church located at 905 Edgeport Drive in North Ranchito with Reverend Ariel Lagunilla officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill cemetery.

Darrell L. Ashley

Snyder - Darrell L. Ashley, 52, of Andrews, a lease operator, died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2007, at his residence.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Snyder cemetery. Arrangements are by McNett Funeral Home of Andrews.
He was born in Snyder. He was an U.S. Navy veteran.
Survivors Wife, Nancy Ashley of Andrews; son, Larry Fletcher of Dallas; daughters, Becky Terry and Kimberly Whitt, both of Big Spring, and Ann Llorente of Killeen; mother, Mary June Ashley of Kingsland; brothers, Jerry Ashley of College Station and David Ashley of Kingsland; sister, Denita Ashley of Kingsland; 20 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Jose M. Avila

Midland - Jose Mendoza Avila, 73, of Midland, a carpenter, died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2007, in Midland.
Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today at Ellis Funeral Home Chapel of Midland. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church. Burial will be at Fairview cemetery.
He was born in Brewster County.
Survivors Wife, Senaida Avila of Midland; sons, James Avila of Midland and Joe Avila Jr. of Longview; daughters, Betty Avila, Janie Stow and JoAnn Avila, all of Oklahoma; brothers, Benito Avila of Midland and Manuel Avila of Clarksville; sisters, Francis Morales of Midland, Alicia Ybarra of Odessa and Yolanda Avila, of Dallas; 14 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
