Mattie Lou Terry

Odessa - Mattie Lou Terry, 79, of Odessa passed away Wednesday, February 15, 2006 at Medical Center Hospital. She was born September 26, 1926 in Waldron, Arkansas to William & Lillie Richmond. She had worked as a clerk for Frost Bakery for 14 years. She was a member of Terrace Hills Church Of Christ.
She married Melvin Delbert Terry September 7, 1945 in Stinnett, TX. He preceded her in death.
She is survived by her son, Melvin Terry, Jr. of San Angelo, brother, Donald Richmond of Oklahoma, sisters, Cindy McCain of Graham, Mary Bates of Burkburnett, (4) grandchildren & (6) great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 17, 2006 at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home with Rev. Teddy Short officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

Hector Ramirez

Odessa - Hector Ramirez, age 39, of Odessa, died Tuesday, February 21, 2006, at Medical Center Hospital. He was born Monday, October 10, 1966 in Ojinaga, Mexico to Daniel and the late Viviana (Bermudez) Ramirez. He was employed by Fence Supply and Construction of Odessa.
He leaves behind his wife Irma Baeza Ramirez, three sons, Martin Machuca, Hector Ely Ramirez and Nikkow Ramirez all of California, one brother, Ricardo Ramirez, three sisters Maria Angela Ramirez, Irene Ramirez and Criselda Espinoza, his father, Daniel and his grandmother Guadalupe Ramirez, all of Odessa.
Hector was preceded in death by his mother, Viviana Ramirez and his grandfathers Antonio Ramirez and Florentino Bermudez.
Rosary is scheduled for 7 pm, Friday, February 24, 2006 at Acres West Funeral Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 10 am, Saturday, February 25, 2006 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church with Father Laurent Mvondo as celebrant.
Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel of Odessa.

Jason Wells

ODESSA - Jason Wells was born in Odessa on Aug. 28, 1978.
He went to be with the Lord on Feb. 21, 2006.
He spent the last 23 years in the loving care of Abilene State School.
He was preceded in death by grandparents Curt and Jane Schroeder.
He is survived by his mother Jan Wells, Uncle and Aunt Ron and Stacy Schroeder of Midland; “Special” Aunt Carole Jones of Lubbock; cousins, Jill Schroeder of Odessa, Brian Henderson of Lubbock; and his extended family in Abilene.
Graveside services will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, 2006.
In lieu of flowers a gift may be made to the Volunteer Services, Abilene State School, P.O. Box 451, Abilene, Texas 79604.

Carl J. Wilson

Odessa - Carl J. Wilson, 68, of Odessa has passed from this life on earth to eternal life in Heaven to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Thursday, February 23, 2006. He was born in Paducah, Texas on November 8, 1937, the son of Bill and Josie Wilson. He grew up in Carlsbad, NM. He was a self-employed carpenter who worked for many people around the Odessa area. He was preceded in death by his father; grandson, Chris; daughter, Sherrie and mother-in-law, Inez.
Carl leaves behind many, many friends. Some were people he knew all of his life and some were ones who would look at Carl and say, “I want what you have,” meaning his peaceful, loving, helpful Christian spirit. He would tell them that Jesus Christ is all there is.
He’s leaving behind his loving wife of 33 years, Edna Wilson, a daughter, Linda Linder of Odessa, his son-in-law, Lex Allgood of Midland, sister-in-law, Evie Moseley of Odessa; his mother, Josie Wilson of Washington; brothers, Bob Wilson and wife Shirley of Oklahoma and Wayne Wilson of Washington; sister, Janet Marshall of Washington; grandsons, Gary Martin and wife Angi and Jimmy Martin and wife, Tiffany of Odessa; granddaughters, Mona Billingsley and husband Doug of Abilene, April Kelly and husband, Gary and Lisa Hancock and husband, Luke of Midland; and eight great-grandchildren whom he loved dearly. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews who he thought of often.
A special thank you to Odyssey Hospice, especially Rhonda Thompson who he loved like a daughter and Nancy, Owen, Laverne, Wanda, Cyndi and Carrie. They were a source of strength for us. We also want to thank West Texas Cancer Center for their care and compassion.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 pm, Monday, February 27, 2006 at Acres West Funeral Chapel, Odessa, TX. Interment will follow at Rose Hill cemetery with Owen Sharp officiating.

Marguerite Curtis

Odessa - Marguerite Curtis, age 97, passed away Friday, February 10, 2006, at her residence in Odessa.
She was born July 23, 1908, to William Owen and Ruth (Pyron) Martin in Temple, TX. She married Alfred Curtis in Cisco, TX on December 24, 1927. She was a beautician, and a member of the Baptist Church.
Her parents and her husband all preceded her in death.
Survivors include her sons, Charles Curtis of Coleman, TX; Wayne Curtis of Odessa, and Don Curtis and wife, Lena of El Paso; daughters, LaVerne Harlow and husband, Robert of Odessa, Linda Taggart of Odessa, and Carolyn Montoya and husband, Mike of Tyler, TX; sisters, Ottie Mayo and husband, Morris of Coleman, TX and Geraldine Monroe of Andrews, TX; (18) grandchildren, (52) great-grandchildren, and numerous great-great-grandchildren.
There will be a family visitation scheduled from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, February 12, 2006, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Services will be held at 12 Noon Monday, February 13, 2006, at University Heights Baptist Church with Dr. Cecil Maxi] officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill cemetery.
Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

Ida S. Hinojos

Odessa - Not even from all the precious stones that this world might hold, will come close to The Virtuous Women like Our Mother, because her raidiant Love for everyone surpasses them all. Ida S. Hinojos 53 of Odessa passed away February 9,2006 at her residence. She was born July 7, 1952 in Odessa, Texas to Jose and Ida Salgado Hinojos. She was a Christian Catholic and a Homemaker. She is preceded in death by Father; Jose Hinojos, Sister: Denise Hinojos, Grandmother: Angela Salgado and Grandson: Ryan Salazar. She is survived by her son; Jesus Salazar Jr. and wife Olga of Odessa, Daughters; Tina S. Llanez and Jose Ponce, Priscilla Salazar both of Odessa, Eleanor Juarez and husband Samuel of Coolidge, Az.,Mother; Ida Hinojos of Odessa, Brother; Joe Hinojos of Odessa, Sisters; JoAnn Fernandez, Linda Soto, Cruz Subia, Anita Carroll, Jackie Olivas and Diane Orona all of Odessa, Angie Fino of Ft. Worth, 11 grandchildren Christopher, Brianna, Jacob Boy, Katherine, Samuel Jr., Elyanna Juarez, Brittany, Albert Anthony, Aaron Llanez, Maraubi and Jaden Salazar. We the Hinojos Family would like to extend a heart felt embrace to everyone, for all your prayers, floral, food offerings and your presence with us during this time .May the Lord Bless you all. . Santos Juarez Ortiz

Odessa - Santos Juarez Ortiz 81 of Odessa, passed away Thursday February 9, 2006 at Medical Center Hospital. She was born November 9, 1924 in Roscoe, Texas to Geronimo & Natividad Torres Juarez. She united in marriage to Nicolas Ortiz May 3, 1960 in Pecos Texas. She was a Christian Catholic and a Homemaker. She is preceded in death by Son: Arnulfo Juarez Sr., Grandsons; Arnulfo Juarez Jr., Jason Perez, J. J. Juarez and Grand-daughter: Sylvia Fuentez. She is survived by Husband: Nicolas Ortiz of Odessa, Sons: Isidro Juarez & wife Gloria, Pedro Ortiz & wife Josie, Pablo Ortiz, Nicky Ortiz & wife Connie, Daughters: Lidia Payen & husband Jose, Rosa Renteria & husband Efren, Maria Jesus Chavez & husband Ernesto, all of Odessa, Brother; Graciolo Juarez of La Puente California, Sisters: Pilar Larez of Cuchillo Parado, Chihuahua Mx. Aurora Juarez of Odessa, Martina Lopez of Pecos, 28 Grandchildren,33 Great-Grandchildren, 7 Great-Great-Grandchildren and Numerous Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and Lots of Friends. We the Juarez and Ortiz family would like to take this time and express our utmost sincere gratitude to each and every one of you, for all your Prayers, floral food offerings and especially for your presence with us at this most difficult time. James Wesley ‘Wes’ Register

Odessa - James Wesley Register, 62, passed away February 7, 2006 at Clear Lake Regional Medical Center in Webster, Texas.
Wes was born on November 30th, 1944 to John Register and Gertie Cooper in Electra, Texas. Wes was raised in Midland, Texas and graduated from Lee High School before serving his country in the United States Army, and as a Veteran of the Vietnam War. Wes married Judy Brisco September 12th, 1987 in Midtothian, Texas. Mr. Register worked as an Electrical Engineer, with Westinghouse and General Electric in Western Wyoming until his retirement in 2005.
Mr. Register was a Little League baseball coach, a member of the Big Brothers/Big Sisters Association, the Rocky Mountain Search and Rescue, and an avid scuba diver. Wes loved hunting, fishing sky-diving; he was a pilot, and a true adventurer.
Mr. Register will be in state at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home in Odessa, Texas Saturday, February 11, 2006.
Funeral services celebrating his life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 13th, 2006 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Jimmy Braswell officiating. Interment with full Military Honors will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens presented by the VFW Post #4372.
Mr. Register is survived by his wife, Judy of Webster, Texas; two sons, Mike Register and wife Tammy of Green River, Wyoming and Frank Wesley Register and wife Tracy of Mountain View, Wyoming; a daughter, Crystal Register of Ft. Collins, Colorado; his brother, Jody Lyles of Midland, Texas; sisters-in-laws, Barbara Calvert of Sheffield, Texas and Shirley Register of Odessa, Texas, as well as numerous nieces and nephews; five grandchildren and lifelong friends; Tom and Linda Polk of Granbury, Texas.
Arrangements are entrusted to Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home.

Leocadia ‘Loki’ Nabarrette

Odessa - The Lord is my strength and my shield, in whom my heart trusted and found help. So my heart rejoices, with my song I praise my God. Leocadia “Loki” Nabarrette 80 years old died Friday February 10,2006 at Home Hospice in Odessa. Mrs.Nabarrette was catholic and was born December 9,1925 in Colorado City to father Elias Lucero and mother Bruna Herrera who both preceded her in death.Rosary will be held Sunday February 12,2006 at 3P.M.at Martinez Smith Funeral Chapels & Crematory.Mass will be celebrated Monday February 13,2006 at 9A.M. at St.Marys Catholic Church with Fr.Francis Frey officiating. Burial will be at 2P.M. Monday graveside service at Rosehill .Survivors son Ramon Nabarrette Jr. from Odessa.Daughters Nellie Garza from Austin,Juanita Bynum,Terry Lechuga and Mary Helen Martinez all from Odessa.12 -grandchildren-22great-grandchildren and 13-great-great-grandchildren.Services under the direction of Martinez Smith Funeral Chapels & Crematory.

Ricky Lynn Switzer

Odessa - Ricky Lynn Switzer, age 44 of Odessa passed away at his residence on February 10, 2006.
Services are scheduled for 10:00 am Tuesday, February 14, 2006 at the Frank W. Wilson Funeral Chapel with Ricky’s cousin Rev. Iva A. Switzer of Bangs officiating.
Burial will be at 4:00 pm in Santa Anna, TX at the Santa Anna cemetery.
Ricky was born May 25, 1961 in Odessa. He was a truck driver. He graduated from OHS in 1979, he married Gail Tomlin on December 20, 1988 in Odessa, and was employed by M&W Hot Oil. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Odessa. Ricky was a true cowboy and will be missed dearly by his family and friends.
He is preceded in death by Shirley Ann Switzer and Jerry Don Switzer.
Ricky leaves behind his loving wife Gail Leslie Switzer of Odessa, the love of his life daughter, Rikki Shanae Switzer of Odessa; his parents, A.J. and Jewell Switzer of Odessa; a brother, Robert Wayne Switzer and a sister, Patricia Ruth Vogt, both of Odessa, father & mother in law Jack & Doris Tomlin of Odessa; brother in law Dale Tomlin of Austin, also numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Services are entrusted to Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.

Patricia G. Samples

San Antonio - Patricia G. Samples was born October 3, 1944 in Montgomery, Louisiana. She entered into rest on February 18, 2006 at the age of 61. She is preceded in death by her parents, Noah Hoob and Clara Dubois; by her siisters and brothers, Ala Bragg, Reba Ledet, Buddy and M.L. Hoob; and by her step-father Wilfred R. Hoob. She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Jim D. Samples, by her son Kevin D. Samples; 2 grandchildren Amanda G. and Samantha L. Samples; her great grandson Joseph Rodriguez; and also by her brothers and sister, Noah Hoob Jr., Marvin Hoob, David Hoob and Diane Harleston. Visitation will be held from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Monday, February 20 at Sunset Funeral Home. A service will be held on Tuesday, February 221 presided by Reverend Dick Loser at Sunset Funeral Home. Merle Reed Beard

Odessa - On February 17, 2006, Merle Reed Beard went peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior.
She lived in Odessa, TX, for over fifty years where she raised and cherished her daughter, Janice Holmes and son, James Beard.
Merle was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Odessa for fifty-two years and recently received her fifty year pin from the Order of Eastern Star, Chapter 447 where she was a Past Worthy Matron. She loved going to the Permian football games and was very active in the Mojo Band Booster Club when her children were in school.
Merle was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, James and Ethel Reed of Mt. Pleasant, TX, her brother, James Buchanan Reed who died on the U.S.S. Arizona during the attack on Pearl Harbor, an infant brother, James, and her son-in-law, Stacey Holmes.
Merle is survived by two sisters, Mary Reed Thomas of Mt. Pleasant and Margaret Reed Clendinning of Corona, CA., her son, James Beard of Odessa and her daughter, Janice Holmes of Perryton, TX. She was also blessed in life with four grandchildren; Kimberly Beard, Stephen Holmes, JimBob Beard, and Shelby Beard, as well as a great-granddaughter, Alexandria Beard, and two nephews Johnny Reed and Brett Thomas.
Visitation will be held at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 19, 2006.
A Memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 20, 2006, at Hubbard-Kelly Chapel.
Merle will be laid to rest at Nevells Chapel cemetery in Mt. Pleasant on Tuesday, February 21, 2006, at 11:00 a.m.
Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
