BIG SPRING -- Janie Coats, 50, of Big Spring, an employee of Cornell Corrections, died Monday, Nov. 16, 1998, at Lubbock Methodist Hospital.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today at Trinity Memorial Park with the Rev. Herb McPherson officiating. Arrangements by Myers & Smith Funeral Home.
She was born in Levelland and moved to Howard County in 1965 from Bowie.
SURVIVORS: Husband, C.T. (Tommy) Coats of Big Spring; father and step-mother, J.D. and Ada Grisham of Sand Springs; mother, Dorothy Wakeland of Waxahachie; and sister, Judy Miller of Teague.
Beulah Joplin
PECOS -- Beulah D. Joplin, 82, of Pecos, a homemaker, died Monday, Nov. 16, 1998, at Pecos Nursing Home.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Greer Willis officiating. Burial will be at Fairview cemetery. Arrangements by Pecos Funeral Home.
She was born in El Dorado and had lived in Pecos since 1938. She was Baptist.
SURVIVORS: Husband, Frank Joplin of Pecos; son, Tim Joplin of Burke, Va.; daughter, Loyce Brown of Rochester, Minn.; step-sons, Wayne Joplin of Winnesboro and Jerry Joplin of Odessa; three grandchildren, five step-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren.
Mercedes Lairson
ODESSA -- Mercedes "Merci" Lairson, 79, of Odessa, a homemaker, died Tuesday, Nov. 17, 1998, at Medical Center Hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Hubbard-Kelly Chapel with Sister Margaret Ledwith officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
She was born in Sylvania, Ga., and moved to Odessa in 1956. She was Methodist.
SURVIVORS: Cousins, Hilda Smith of Sylvania, Ga., and Frankie Garrick of Atlanta, Texas.
Abel Sanchez
BALMORHEA -- Abel L. Sanchez, 66, of Balmorhea died Tuesday, Nov. 17, 1998, at his residence.
Mass will be celebrated at 3 p.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today at Christ the King Catholic Church. Burial will be at Balmorhea cemetery. Arrangements by Pecos cemetery.He was born in San Antonio del Bravo, Mexico, and was a lifetime resident of Balmorhea. He was Catholic.
SURVIVORS: Wife, Marla Louisa Sanchez of Balmorhea; daughters, Rosa Dominguez of Balmorhea and Barbara Prito of Iraan; brothers, Euljio Sanchez and Francisco Sanchez, both of Van Horn, Manuel Sanchez of Mexico; and sisters, Jesus Quintana of Van Horn, Sarah Mendoza of Hobbs, N.M., and Francisca Hernandez of Fabens.
Albert Griggs
ODESSA -- Albert Leon Griggs, 63, of Odessa, died Saturday, Nov. 21, 1998, at his residence.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Highland United Methodist Church with the Revs. David Ring, Johann Netthing and Jerry Thorpe officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
He was born in Stamford.
Survivors: Wife, Connie Griggs of Odessa; sons, Albert "Bert" Leon Griggs Jr. of Odessa and Paul Steven Griggs of College Station; daughter, Gayle Griggs Fuqua of Kermit; brothers, Richard Lewis Griggs and Milton Lee Griggs, both of Ingram; sister, Joyce McLemore of Odessa; 1 grandchild.
Gloria Hinojos
MONAHANS -- Gloria M. Hinojos, 72, of Andrews, a homemaker, died Friday, Nov. 20, 1998, at Permian General Hospital in Andrews.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today at St. John’s Catholic Church in Monahans with the Rev. John Lucino officiating. Burial will be at Monahans Memorial cemetery. Arrangements by Harkey Funeral Home in Monahans.
She was born in Ruidosa, Texas, and was Catholic.
Survivors: Sons, Pedro Hinojos of Kermit, Greg Hinojos of Texico, N.M., and Raul Hinojos of Monahans; daughters, Ofelia Hinojos of Socorro, Mary Ellen Primera of Monahans and Sara Lujan of Andrews; brothers, Frank Martinez of Indio, Calif., Herminio Martinez of Ruidosa; sisters, Carmen Holguin of Superior, Ariz., Sara Tovar of Mesa, Ariz., Lilia Gonzales of Orange County, Calif., Socorro Jimenez of Ontario, Calif., and Pilar Abalos of Hereford; 21 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was born in Lubbock.
Survivors: Husband, Shane Ray Landers of Seminole; mother, Pauline Laseman and husband Rayburn of Norman, Okla.; father, Billy Brewer and wife Nellwyn of Lubbock; grandparents, Veomia and Norise Quiett of Ada, Okla.; daughters, Toni Miller of Spring Lake, Amanda Landers and Angela Landers of Fritch; brother, Billy Norise Brewer of Lubbock; sister, Rhonda Gorden of Corpus Christi; and four grandchildren.

HARROLD -- Jim Newman, 67, of Electra, a retired oil worker, died Saturday, Nov. 21, 1998, in Electra.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today at the Harrold cemetery with the Rev. Roger Sanford officiating. Arrangements by Dutton Funeral Home of Electra.
He was born in Cleburne and was an Army veteran of the Korean conflict. He was a longtime West Texas resident.
Survivors: Wife, Judy Newman of Electra; daughters Amy Newman of Dallas and J’Lynn Wheeler; one sister; two grandchildren.

MONAHANS -- Dimas Polanco, 61, of Monahans, a salesman, died Friday, Nov. 20, 1998, in Houston.

He was born in Presidio and was Catholic.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Immanuel Baptist Church with the Revs. Troy Stevenson and Bill Cook officiating. Interment will be at Resthaven cemetery, Ponca City, Okla. Arrangements by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
He was born in Fort Worth and was Baptist.

He was born in El Mulato, Mexico. He was Baptist.
