Isavel M. Tavarez

ODESSA — Isavel M. Tavarez was born Feb. 24, 1935, in Loving, N.M., to Seferino and Vicenta Acosta Martinez. She passed away, Sunday, Oct. 31, 1999, at her home.

Funeral Mass will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 3, 1999, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Gilbert Rodriguez officiating. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today at their home, 1105 W. Ada St. The family will be receiving visitors at their home. Family will be accepting floral arrangements at their home also.

Services are under the direction of Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.

Isavel M. Tavarez grew up in Loving, N.M., and Carlsbad, N.M., then moved to Odessa in 1947. She married Elias Tavarez in 1952. She was a loving Wife, Mother and Grandmother. Isavel was always willing to help those in need. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

She is survived by her husband, Elias Tavarez; two sons, Elias Tavarez Jr. and Steve Tavarez, both of Odessa; three daughters, Elida Willard, Elodia Gonzales and Leticia Tavarez, all of Odessa; her mother, Vicenta Acosta Martinez; four brothers, Greg Martinez of Los Angeles, Calif., Juan Martinez of Odessa, Placido Martinez of Carlsbad, N.M., and Max Martinez of El Paso; three sisters, Refugia Martinez, Angelica Martinez and Francisca Doporto, all of Carlsbad N.M.; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mrs. K.V. "Kinko" Dunn

DALLAS — Mrs. K.V. "Kinko" Dunn, born Etta Mae Elliott Jan. 22, 1911, in Hamilton, passed on peacefully Saturday, Oct. 30, 1999, following a brief illness in Dallas.

She and her husband Kermit resided in Odessa from 1949 to 1991.

As a homemaker, Kinko raised three children, Jimmy, Carol and Bill, and is survived by her husband of 68 years, Kermit; five grandchildren; and two-great-grandchildren; and Gretchen.

She will be remembered with love and affection by all who knew her.

Interment was at Restland Park in Dallas.

Kinko was a member, teacher and Bible student at Antioch Christian Church and a faithful and long-time volunteer worker at an Odessa Hospital and several local nursing homes.

Arrangements were by Restland Funeral Home of Dallas.

Raymond J. Donovan, M.D.

ODESSA — A memorial Mass will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church on Wednesday, November 3, 1999 at 2 p.m. The church is located at 7601 N. Grandview, Odessa.

Raymond J. Donovan, M.D., 73, died Saturday, Oct. 9, 1999 in Houston. He practiced in Odessa from 1978 - 1983 then returned to join the faculty of the Texas Tech Ob/Gyn Department in 1990. He will be deeply missed by his many colleagues, friends and coworkers.

Donations may be made to the Ob/Gyn Lectureship Fund in honor of Dr. Donovan. Please send contributions to Texas Tech HSC, 80 0 W. 4th Street, Department of Ob/Gyn, Ob/Gyn Lectureship Fund, Odessa, TX 79763.

Kenneth C. Brakeville

ODESSA — Kenneth C. Brakeville, 73, of Odessa, died Friday, Oct. 29, 1999, at Medical Center Hospital.

Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Troy Stevenson officiating.

Mr. Brakeville was born Sept. 18, 1926, in DeQueen, Ark. He married Kathlyn Reed on April 18, 1947, in DeQueen, Ark.

Mr. Brakeville moved to Odessa in 1951 from DeQueen, Ark. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII. He worked for Sid Richardson Plant for 21 years. He retired from Carr Well Service in 1987. He was a Baptist.

He is survived by his wife, Kathlyn Brakeville of Odessa; sons, Kenneth R. Brakeville and wife Colleen of Odessa, and Jerry P. Brakeville of Odessa; brothers, Charles Brakeville of Benton, La., and Bobby Don Brakeville of DeQueen, Ark.; granddaughter Casey Boswell and her husband Michael of Odessa; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

Tommy Clark

ODESSA — Tommy Gene Clark was born on July 31, 1932, in Eastland County to Tommie M. and Chloe Hefner Clark. He passed away Friday, Oct. 29, 1999 at his home.

Graveside services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 1, 1999, at the Eastland cemetery in Eastland, Texas with Rev. Jack Watkins of Temple Baptist Church in Odessa officiating. The family will receive visitors Sunday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Services are under direction of Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.

Tommy was raised in Carbon, Texas. He graduated from Carbon High School in 1949. He attended Cisco Jr. College, Howard Payne and Odessa College. Mr. Clark joined the U. S. Navy in 1952 and served during the Korean War until 1956. He married Donna Scott on May 9, 1958, in Midland, Texas. They came to Odessa in July of 1959. He had worked as a Letter Carrier for the U. S. Postal Service for over 36 years. He also worked for Greyhound, after his retirement, for 5 years and then for Fields and Company where he worked until March of this year. He enjoyed working, hunting, fishing and loved West Texas Football.

He is survived by his wife Donna Clark; his daughter Karen Clark; his son Allen and his wife Elaine Clark all of Odessa; his sister, Jane Hardin and her husband Les of Ft. Worth; his grandsons, Christopher and Brandon Clark of Houston and granddaughter, Brittney McKee of Odessa; sister in law and brother in law, Monette and Bill Carr of Garland; niece, Laura Trotter and husband Eddie of Waco; nephew, Douglas Carr of Dallas and great niece, Shannon Trotter of Waco. He was preceded in death by his parents and his stepmother, Flora Roderick.

The family suggests that memorials be made to Nurse Hospice or the A.L.S. Foundation.

Mildred Thomas

ODESSA — Mildred Thomas, 92, of Odessa went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Oct. 29, 1999.

She was born Oct. 1, 1907 in Sweet Home, Ark. She married Jesse J. Thomas, November 3, 1933, in Sweet Home and together they owned and operated a grocery store in Sweet Home until the early 70’s. She moved to Odessa in 1982. She had been a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church since 1928. Pine Grove Baptist was her life where she had taught Sunday School and served on various pulpit committees. She had also served as president of the Women’s Missionary Union. While in Odessa she had attended Immanuel Baptist Church and Antioch Christian Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1975, sister, Lucille Pearson in 1955 and nephew, Charles E. Pearson in 1990.

Survivors include her great niece Ruthann Clayton and her husband Roger of Odessa and their children Brent Clayton of Lubbock and Brook Clayton of Ft. Worth. She is also survived by her niece Wanda Milligan of Lubbock and great niece Julie Pearson of Dallas.

The family will receive friends at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors today from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 2, 1999, at Pine Grove Baptist Church in Sweet Home, Ark. with the Revs. Ed Edmondson and James Reed officiating. Interment will follow in Pine Grove cemetery. Arrangements by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.

James Robert Stanley

ODESSA — James Robert "Stoop" Stanley, 70, of Odessa, died Friday, Oct. 29, 1999, at Medical Center Hospital.

Services will be held at 4:30 p.m. Monday at Northside Baptist Church with the Revs. Glenn Harlin and Clydel Chapman officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Stanley was born on March 29, 1929, in Wink, Texas. He married Wanda Cook on May 7, 1951 in Roswell, N.M.

Mr. Stanley was born in Wink and settled in Odessa in 1955. He worked in the oilfield. He was a member of Northside Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Wanda Stanley of Odessa; sons, Marvin Stanley and wife Sandy of Odessa, and Raymond Stanley and wife Kelly of Odessa; daughters, Towana Jo Bell and husband Roy of Odessa, and Tyann Niemann and husband Steve of Odessa; sisters, Mary Nell Armstrong and husband Wade of Bridgeport, and Mattie Reeves and husband Tom of Alice; 10 grandchildren, Danielle Swinson-Bell, Elizabeth Stanley, Crystal Stanley, Tiffany Niemann, Ruth Stanley, Nicole Niemann, Doug Stanley, Stephanie Niemann, Shawn Niemann and Landry Stanley.

Services are entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

Earl Lankford

ALPINE — Earl Lankford, a resident of the Alpine and Marfa area since 1929, died Sunday, Oct. 24, 1999, at his family home in Alpine. He was born in Loving, N.M., Nov. 8, 1919.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Elm Grove cemetery in Alpine. Geeslin Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A 1936 graduate of Alpine High School, Mr. Lankford attended Sul Ross University before being accepted in the Army Air Corps. He reported to Kelly Field Dec. 18, 1941, as an aviation cadet. Shortly after completing pilot training at Foster Field, Victoria, he was assigned to a medium bombardment duty with a B-25 Mitchell Bomber group in the South Pacific. For his service he was awarded Air Medal with a cluster, an Asiatic Pacific Theater Medal with two-campaign cluster and Meritorious Medal for his foreign service.

After separation from active duty as a captain in the Air Force, he remained in the Air Force Reserves until his retirement as a lieutenant colonel in 1984. Mr. Lankford also remained active in aviation by assisting in the organization of Civil Air Patrol units in Alpine and Marfa. His active duty and reserve duty covered a period of 42 years.

Mr. Lankford had lived in Marfa since 1948 and retired from the Immigration Service in 1976.

Mr. Lankford was preceded in death by his first wife, Clarice R. Lankford, who died in 1979.

He is survived by his wife, Jane S. Lankford, and her children: Nancy Armstrong, Kathy Donnell, Shirley Allen and Charles Stover and their families.

He is also survived by his sister, Dalma L. Morrow of Big Lake; niece, Vivian Jones and her husband, Newton Jones, and two great nephews, Andrew and Sam Jones of Dallas.

Beverley Joan Simmons

ODESSA — Beverley Joan Simmons, 44, of Odessa, died Monday, Oct. 25, 1999, at her residence. She was born Jan. 6, 1955, in Odessa.

Mrs. Simmons was owner of Sunshine Gardens and Gifts, and she worked for her dad as office manager at Heat-X-Changers Systems Inc. for 25 years. She was a gardener and loved the earth and animals. She was a very generous, giving person and gave without being asked. Beverley loved to fish and was a talented artist. She was of the Christian faith and was a blessing to everyone.

She is survived by her parents, D.W. "Bud" and Phyllis Dudley; daughters, Lanell Simmons and Erica Simmons; brother, Dennis Dudley of Atlanta, Ga.; sister, Deborah Dudley of Odessa; and granddaughter, Kristin Simmons.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, 1999, at the Lutheran Church of the Risen Lord with Revs. Preston Weatherly and James Otterness officiating. Entombment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Arrangements by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
