Maria Rubio

PRESIDIO — Maria Mendias Rubio, 85, of Presidio, a homemaker, died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2000, at her residence.

Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. today at Santa Teresa Catholic Church with the Rev. Lazaro Trejo officiating. Burial will follow at Santa Teresa cemetery. Arrangements by Memorial Funeral Home.

She was born in Mexico and had been a longtime resident of Presidio. She was Catholic.

SURVIVORS: Sons, Telesforo Rubio, Manuel Rubio and Roberto Rubio, all of Presidio, Enrique Rubio, Jesus Rubio and Victor Rubio, all of Odessa; daughters, Bahola R. Martinez of Houston, Francisca R. Morales of Kermit, Elidia R. Mendoza, Elizer R. Armendariz and Olivia R. Covos, all of Presidio, and Elida R. Rivera of Roswell, N.M.; sisters, Inez Galindo, Angelita Jimenez, Leandra Aranda, Jesusita Soza, Socorro Singh and Apolinar Ramos, all of El Paso, and Esperanza Acosta of Marfa; 52 grandchildren; 80 great-grandchildren; and 28 great-great-grandchildren.

Edwin Spoon

KILGORE — Edwin Anthony Spoon, 88, of Kilgore, a retired oilfield worker and drilling consultant, died Saturday, Sept. 16, 2000, in Longview.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Rader Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bill Wright officiating. Burial will follow at Smyrna cemetery in Harleton. Arrangements by Rader Funeral Homes.

He was born in St. Joseph and had been a resident of Odessa. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was Baptist.

SURVIVORS: Daughters, Joanne Pope and Norma Sue Guevara, both of Shreveport, La., and Lanell Ruth Benson of Kilgore; sister, Betty Jean Williams of Rodessa, La.; 17 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Morris Sullens

ANDREWS — Morris "Whitie" Sullens, 66, of Andrews, a retired rig operator for DA&S Oil Well Service and Brownlee Oil Well Service, died Monday, Sept. 18, 2000, at Permian General Hospital in Andrews.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at McNett Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ivy Shelton officiating. Burial will be at the Andrews North cemetery. Arrangements by McNett Funeral Home.

He was born in Little Texas, Ala., and had been a resident of Andrews since 1963. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was Baptist.

SURVIVORS: Wife, Sue Sullens of Andrews; sons, Jamie Sullens and Olen Sullens, both of Andrews; daughters, Teresa Garcia, Mary Ramirez, Darlene Ake and Cindy Whitten, all of Andrews; brother, Gene Sullens of Georgia; sisters, Catherine Grant of Winfield, Ala., and Shirley Farris of Florida; 14 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Lloyd Alcorn

ODESSA — Lloyd C. Alcorn, 96, of Odessa, died Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2000, at Medical Center Hospital.

Arrangements are pending with Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.

Armando Acosta

ODESSA — Armando Mendez Acosta, 42, of Odessa died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2000, at Medical Center Hospital.

Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Gilbert Rodriguez officiating. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Odessa Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at Rose Hill cemetery. Arrangements by Odessa Funeral Home Angeles Memorial Chapel.

He was born in Cuahutemoc, Chihuahua, Mexico. He was Catholic.

SURVIVORS: Wife, Hilda Bejarano Acosta of Odessa; sons, Armando Acosta Jr. and Emmanuel Acosta, both of Odessa; daughter, Crystal Acosta Flores of Odessa; brothers, Ismael Acosta of Cuahutemoc, Chihuahua, Mexico; Jose Acosta, Alvaro Acosta and Arturo Acosta, all of Odessa; sister, Maria Amparo Acosta of Cuahutemoc, Chihuahua, Mexico.

Julia Hartman

ODESSA — Julia Ann Hartman, 67, of Odessa died Thursday, Sept. 14, 2000, at Medical Center Hospital.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Sixth and Jackson Church of Christ with Don Turskey officiating. Burial will be at Santa Anna cemetery. Arrangements by Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

She was born in Santa Anna. She was a member of the Church of Christ.

SURVIVORS: Sons, Steve Hartman of Opelousas, La., Gary Hartman, David Hartman and Daniel Hartman, all of Austin; daughter, Debra Hough of Odessa; brother, Tom Bailey of Granbury; and eight grandchildren.

Augustina Nunez

MARFA — Augustina Prieto Nunez, 90, of Marfa, a homemaker, died Friday, Sept. 15, 2000, in a Fort Stockton nursing center.

Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. today at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Rosary will be said at 1 p.m. today at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Burial will be at Merced cemetery. Arrangements by Memorial Funeral Home.

She was born in Ruidosa and had lived in Marfa for 48 years. She was Catholic.

SURVIVORS: Daughters, Emma Nnunez of El Paso, Linda Cash of Marfa, Virginia Granado of Fort Davis and Tina Parras of Andrews; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

Wilma Stephenson

ODESSA — Wilma C. "Polly" Stephenson, 79, of Odessa, a bookkeeper, died Friday, Sept. 15, 2000, at Sinton Manor in Sinton.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at Rankin cemetery. Arrangements by Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

She was born in Commanche and moved to Odessa since 1959. She was Baptist.

SURVIVORS: Son, Carl Stephenson of Midland; daughter, Patsy Hunter of Sinton; brother, W.D. Price of Corpus Christi; and three grandchildren.

Fred Deaver

ODESSA — Fred Deaver, 74, of Odessa died Saturday, Sept. 16, 2000, at Medical Center Hospital.

Services are pending with Martinez Funeral Home.

Betty Donaldson

ODESSA — Betty H. Donaldson, 75, of Odessa died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2000, at Deerings Nursing Home.

Services are pending with Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home.

Fred Deaver

ODESSA — Fred Douglas Deaver, 74, of Odessa, a retired teacher for the Ector County Independent School District, died Saturday, Sept. 16, 2000, at Medical Center Hospital.

Services will be at noon Saturday at Rose of Sharon Baptist Church with the Rev. Ronald Vandyke officiating. Burial will be at the Ector County cemetery. Arrangements by Martinez Funeral Home.

He was born in Copeland. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was Baptist.

SURVIVORS: Wife, Lillian Beatrice Deaver of Odessa; daughters, Debra Irene Byrd and Dr. Tara Yvette Deaver, both of Odessa; sisters, Maude Lucas and Dorothy Pledge, both of Odessa, and Emma Glenn of Los Angeles; and two grandchildren.

Martina Hernandez

SHEFFIELD — Martina Hernandez, 103, of Sheffield, a homemaker, died Monday, Sept. 18, 2000, at McCamey Nursing Home in McCamey.

Mass will be celebrated at 4 p.m. today at the Good Shepherd Catholic Church. Burial will follow at the Sheffield cemetery. Arrangements by Shaffer-Nichols Chapel.

She was born in Del Rio and had been a longtime resident of Sheffield. She was Catholic.

SURVIVORS: Sister-in-law, Petra Castaneda of Sheffield; and numerous nieces and nephews.
