Avelino Sanchez Sr.

ODESSA — Avelino Sanchez Sr., 74, of Odessa, died Sunday, Sept. 19, 1999, at Medical Center Hospital.

Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Gilbert Rodriguez officiating. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today at Martinez Funeral Home. Burial will be at Rose Hill cemetery.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. today at Martinez Funeral Home Chapel and from 8 a.m. to 1:45 a.m. at Martinez Funeral Home Chapel.

He was born Sept. 7, 1925, in Colorado City.

He married Maria Hinojos.

He was a retired employee of Keys Construction.

Survivors include his wife, Maria R. Sanchez of Odessa; sons, Alfredo Sanchez of El Paso, and Avelino Sanchez Jr. and Alonzo Sanchez, both of Austin; daughters, Romelia Gonzales and Sylvia Gonzales, both of Austin, and Catalina Rojo of Odessa; brothers, Bacilio C. Sanchez and Luis C. Sanchez, both of Odessa, and Trini Sanchez of Garland; sister, Tomasa Garza of Fort Worth; 18 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Arrangements by Martinez Funeral Home.

Roger Herndon

MIDLAND — Roger Herndon, 62, of Midland, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, died at his home Friday, Sept. 1, 2000.

Memorial services will be at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Grace Presbyterian Church with the Rev. William Clark officiating. Arrangements by Ellis Funeral Home.

He was born in Eunice, N.M. He was a Odessa High School graduate. He served in Okinawa and Puerto Rico as a member of the U.S. Marine Corps in the late 50s and early 60s. He also established Herndon Inspection Service of Midland.

SURVIVORS: Wife, Lana Herndon of Midland; sons, Jack Herndon and Cary Herndon of Wakenney, Kan.; daughters, Shana Herndon of Dallas and Dena Herndon Moore of Austin; sister, Diantha Langley of Houston; and four grandchildren.

Richard Rice

HOBBS, N.M. — Richard Ray "Dick" Rice, 68, of Hobbs, N.M., died Sept. 2, 2000.

Arrangements are pending with Griffin Funeral Home.

Benito Arredondo

CORPUS CHRISTI — Benito R. Arredondo Sr., 78, a retired agriculturist, died Aug. 26, 2000, at a Lubbock Hospital.

Mass was celebrated Wednesday at Our Lady Catholic Church. Burial was in Memory Garden cemetery. Arrangements by Cantu Funeral Home.

He was born in Pana Maria and was a resident of Ralls. He was Catholic.

SURVIVORS: Wife, Antonia G. Arredondo of Ralls; daughters, Elvia Garcia and Imelda Gonzales, both of Corpus Christi, Elodia Ortega of Morgan and Elida Villanueva of Lubbock; sons, Richard Arredondo of Corpus Christi and Benito Arredondo Jr. of Ralls; sisters, Estella Robles and Dora Ramirez, both of Corpus Christi; brothers, Erasmo Arredondo of Odessa, Isaac Arredondo of North Carolina and Guadalupe Arredondo of Corpus Christi; 28 grandchildren; 66 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Linda Crawford

ANDREWS — Linda Jean Kinser Crawford, 48, of An-drews, a retired English teacher, died Friday, Sept. 1, 2000, at Medical Center Hospital.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Henson officiating. Burial will be at 5 p.m. Monday at Sherwood cemetery in Sherwood. Arrangements by McNett Funeral Home.

She was born in San Angelo. She was Baptist.

SURVIVORS: Husband, Dennis Crawford of Andrews; daughter, Kim Crawford of Andrews; son, Jason Crawford of Mesquite; mother, Lorene Tennant of Brady; stepsisters, Valerie Threadgill, Debbie Trent and April Marchant, all of Midland; and grandmother, Erva Kinser of Midland.

Rita Easley

MONAHANS — Rita Easley, 60, of Monahans, a homemaker, died Friday, Sept. 1, 2000, at her residence.

Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. today at Harkey Funeral Home with the Rev. Greg Holly officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Southland Memorial Park in Grand Prairie. Arrangements by Harkey Funeral Home.

She was born in Telephone. She was Baptist.

SURVIVORS: Husband, J.C. Easley of Monahans; daughter, Lisa Easley of Monahans; mother, Thelma Cooper of Grand Prairie; sister, Carolyn Self of Grand Prairie; and a grandchild.

Gene Harrison

ODESSA — Gene W. Harrison, 80, of Odessa, a retired pump supervisor for Reading and Bates Company, died Thursday, Aug. 31, 2000, at Deerings Nursing Home.

Services will be at 10 a.m. today at Hubbard-Kelly Chapel with the Revs. Dr. Bill Percy, L.D. Green and Owen Sharp officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

He was born in Caddo and had been a resident of Odessa since 1977. He was Baptist.

SURVIVORS: Wife, Dorothy Harrison of Odessa; son, Steve Harrison of Odessa; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Melba Holder

RUIDOSO, N.M. — Melba Holder, 57, of Ruidoso, N.M., a homemaker, died Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2000, in Albuquerque, N.M.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Sept. 9 at the Ruidoso Downs Senior Citizen Center. Arrangements by LaGrone Funeral Chapel.

She was born in Amherst.

SURVIVORS: Husband, Jerry Holder of Ruidoso; son, Shane Holder of Ruidoso; daughter, Niccole Holder of Ruidoso; sisters, Janet Dupuy of Odessa, Bonnie Light of Clovis, N.M., and Erveda Wilson of Nevada; brother, Delvin Weber of Whiteface; and three grandchildren.

Epigmenio Leyva

FORT STOCKTON — Epigmenio H. Leyva, 56, of Fort Stockton, a retired roustabout, died Thursday, Aug. 31, 2000, in Fort Stockton.

Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Agnes Catholic Church with the Rev. David Herrera officiating. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Sunday at St. Agnes Catholic Church. Burial will be at St. Joseph cemetery. Arrangements by Memorial Funeral Home.

He was born in Ojinaga, Mexico. He was Catholic.

SURVIVORS: Sons, Eddie Leyva of Denver and Miguel Leyva of Studio City, Calif.; daughters, Judy Marriot of Studio City and Angie Acosta of Fort Stockton; sisters, Andrea Sarabia of Fort Stockton and Rita Valenzuela of Denver; and brothers, Lucio Leyva of Artesia, N.M., Jose Leyva, Humberto Leyva and Ruben Leyva, all of Fort Stockton, Roman Leyva of Odessa, Adan Leyva of Denver and Arturo Leyva of San Bernardino, Calif.

Jessie Nelson

ANDREWS — Jessie Mae Nelson, 70, of Andrews, a homemaker, died Friday, Sept. 1, 2000, at her residence.

Services will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at McKinney Acres Baptist Church with the Rev. Ted Short officiating. Burial will be at the Andrews West cemetery. Arrangements by McNett Funeral Home.

She was born in Colgate, Okla. She was Baptist.

SURVIVORS: Sons, Don Nelson, Larry Nelson and Steve Nelson, all of Andrews; daughters, Karen Derrington and Jean Jannamon, both of Andrews, and Sharen Fulwider of Midland; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
