Emily Hawkins Edwards
CANTON, Miss. — Emily Hawkins Edwards, 90, of Odessa died Sunday, March 7, 1999, at a local hospital. Mrs. Edwards was born May 4, 1908, in Flora, Miss.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 9, 1999, at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. Funeral services will be held in Canton, Miss. Burial will be in Long Pine cemetery in Canton, Miss. Funeral arrangements are by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
Mrs. Edwards was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church where she was active in church and Sunday School. She loved to play Bingo and enjoyed visiting the Senior Citizens Center. She moved to Odessa in 1991 from Canton, Miss.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse P. Edwards in 1954; and two daughters, Paula Ann Edwards and June Edwards Anton.
Survivors include one daughter, D. Katherine Edwards-O’Neill and husband, Phillip O’Neill, M.D., of Odessa; sons, Jesse D. Edwards and wife, Maria, of Lexington, Miss., Donald C. Edwards and wife, Dianne, of Hinton, Okla., and Wayne P. Edwards and wife, Cathlene, of Nashville, Tenn.; one brother, Max Hawkins of Jackson, Miss.; two sisters, Jewel Lay of Jackson, Miss., and Polly Hawkins; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
The family asks that memorial gifts be made to the American Heart Association or Meals on Wheels, in lieu of flowers.
Dale V. Hines
ODESSA — Services for Dale V. Hines, 71 of Midland are set for 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 9, 1999, at Pipkin Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Larry Ashlock officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Pipkin Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Hines was born Sept. 12, 1927, in Detroit, Texas, to Christopher C. and Grace Hines. He was raised and attended school in Clarksville. He married
June Brewer March 2, 1945, in Texarkana, Ark.
They moved to Midland in 1945. He was in the food service business. He worked for Webb Davis of Midland and Parks in Monahans, then owned Time Saver Food Service in Odessa. He retired in October of 1996.
He was a member of Crestview Baptist Church. He passed away at his residence Saturday, March 6, 1999.
He is survived by his wife, June Hines of Midland; one son, Jimmy D. Hines and his wife, Sandy, of Thornton, Colo.; one daughter, Janelle Row and her husband, Jimmy, of Midland; two grandchildren, Emily Row and Molly Row, both of Midland; four brothers, Nathan Hines of Granbury, Neil Hines of Modesto, Calif., Kenneth Hines and Charles Hines, both of Midland; three sisters, Virginia McPeak, Chris Hines and Phila Parr, all of Midland; seven nieces and seven nephews.
James G. Huckaby
FORT STOCKTON — James G. Huckaby, 88, of Fort Stockton, died March 7, 1999, at Fort Stockton Nursing Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. Jim Miles officiating. Burial will be at East Hill cemetery. Arrangements by Fort Stockton Funeral Home.
James was born April 14, 1910, in Dime Box to G.L. and Hallie Huckaby. After several moves, he graduated from high school in San Saba, Texas.
After college at Shriner College and Rice University, he became a teacher and later superintendent of schools in Coupland. In Coupland, he met and married
Ruby Speckles in 1931.
In 1942, the family moved to Fort Stockton where he became high school principal. In 1953, he became superintendent of schools and he remained at that position until his retirement in 1975.
On retirement, James and Ruby spent many leisure years at home on the shore of Lake Buchanan.
In Fort Stockton, he was active in civic affairs. He held several offices in the Noon Lions Club and was their president from 1959 to 1960. He was selected as Outstanding Citizen of Fort Stockton in 1967. He was an active member in numerous professional educational associations. He was a deacon, Sunday School teacher and Sunday School superintendent in the First Presbyterian Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandchild.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby Speckles Huckaby of Austin; three sons, Robert Huckaby and wife, Claudel, of Fort Stockton, Jim Huckaby and wife, Clara Jo, of Austin and Doug Huckaby and wife, Darlene, of San Angelo; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Russ Huckaby, Kurt Huckaby, Trent Huckaby, Neal Huckaby, Michael Huckaby and Darren Huckaby.
Honorary pallbearers will be E.F. Triplett, Delmon Hodges, Bobby Carter, Weldon Boggus, Gilbert Ray, Pat Mayfield and D.D. White.
Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.
Charles Elmer "Charlie" McQueen
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — Masonic graveside services for Charles Elmer "Charlie" McQueen, 71, of Odessa will be at 1 p.m. Friday, March 12, 1999, at Mount Pleasant cemetery in Terre Haute, Ind. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. to noon Wednesday at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Mr. McQueen died Sunday, March 7, 1999, at Medical Center Hospital. He was born Aug. 1, 1927, in Riley, Ind. He married
Geraldine Springer Dec. 4, 1953, in Indianapolis.
Mr. McQueen moved to Odessa in 1984 from Indianapolis. He was a U.S. Navy and Air Force veteran. He marched at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
He was past master of the Odessa Masonic Lodge. He was a retired heating and air conditioning salesman. He was Methodist.
Survivors include his wife, Geraldine McQueen of Odessa; sons, Charles E. "Chip" McQueen of Odessa and Mike Steven McQueen of Indianapolis; and a grandson, Iann McQueen.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Nye Minter
MIDLAND — Nye Minter, 86, of Lewisville died Friday, March 5, 1999, at Lake Village Nursing Center following a long illness.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Resthaven Memorial Park in Midland with the Rev. Dale Thurlby officiating.
Nye was born Dec. 19, 1912, in Quinlin, Texas, and married
Maxine Adams June 25, 1947, in Odessa. He served in the U.S. Army in Africa and Italy during World War II. He worked as a heavy equipment operator in the oil fields of West Texas for over 40 years.
Nye is survived by his wife, Maxine Minter of Lewisville; two daughters, Nyane Chalker of San Angelo and Melody Mattes of Lewisville; six grandchildren, Scott Trent, Amy Mason, Jason Trent, Golda Hoffman, Nashon Dupuy and Devon Dupuy; two great grandaughters, Sierra and Carolina Trent; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Nye was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers and three sisters.
Funeral arrangements are by Odessa Funeral Home Angeles Memorial Chapel.
Elzie Lee Roy Watson
CRANE — Elzie Lee Roy Watson, 92, of Crane, and formerly of Odessa, died on Saturday, March 6, 1999, in a Crane Hospital.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 9, 1999, at the Sunset Memorial Gardens in Odessa. Services are under the direction of Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home of Crane.
Mr. Watson was born on Sept. 12, 1906, in Kaufman County. He was a gauger for 38 years for the Texas-New Mexico Pipeline Company. He served on the building committee on the current Tanglewood Church of Christ in Odessa. He was a member of the Eisenhower Church of Christ in Odessa.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillie Mae Watson; and grandson, Pahl Watson.
Survivors include two sons, Gary Watson and wife, Maguerita, of Mexico and Ed Watson and wife, Carol, of Midland; a daughter, Donna Pahl and husband, Ray, of Crane; six grandchildren, Walter Watson and wife, Vickie, Mark Pahl and wife, Sheila, all of Crane, Donna Edwards and husband, Dennis, of San Angelo, Robin Moon and husband, Samuel, of Austin, Roy Watson of Marfa and Thomas Watson of Mexico; and eight great- grandchildren.
Charline Wesson Yeager
PAMPA — Charline Wesson Yeager, 95, beloved mother of Mary Frances House of Odessa and beloved grandmother of Susan, Ed, Nancy and Colleen, went to be with the Lord Sunday, March 7, 1999, at Deerings Nursing Home.
She was born April 24, 1903, in Waxahachie to Minta B. and Charles P. Wesson. She and her husband, William Floyd Yeager, owned and managed the Pampa Print Shop in Pampa, Texas, for more than 30 years.
Floyd was a deacon and both Charline and Floyd taught Sunday School at First Baptist Church in Pampa, Texas, for over 40 years.
She loved to sew, make cherry cobbler, plant geraniums and take care of her family.She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd; her brother, Ross Wesson; and her younger sisters, Lucile Nunn and Maidel Thomason.
Her surviving family includes her only child, Mary Frances House of Odessa; her grandchildren, Susan R. Richardson of Midland, Edward William Rafferty of Shreveport, La., and Nancy Kay Rafferty and Colleen Lynette Rafferty of Houston.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 10, 1999, at Fairview cemetery in Pampa, Texas, with the Rev. John Glover officiating. Arrangements by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
If desired, memorials may be made to the Deacon’s Fund at First Baptist Church of Pampa, Texas.
