Aida Dutchover Rojero

ODESSA — Aida Dutchover Rojero, 63, passed away Friday, Oct. 6, 2000, at Medical Center Hospital.

God saw she was getting tired, a cure was not to be.

So he put his arms around her and whispered, "Come to me."

A golden heart stopped beating, hard-working hands went to rest.

God took you to prove to us, He only takes the very best.

She was born April 6, 1936, in Fort Davis. She married Catatrino Rojero Feb. 24, 1953, in Carlsbad, N.M. They lived in Odessa for 39 years.

Mrs. Rojero was a homemaker and a member of San Martin Catholic Church.

She is survived by her husband, Catatrino Rojero of Odessa; sons, Elias Rojero and his wife, Maria, of Odessa, Jose Rojero of Dallas, Albert Rojero and his wife, Sandra, of Odessa, Joshua Rojero of Odessa, and Randy Rivera of Austin; daughters, Abby Rojero of San Angelo, Lupe Sosa of Lubbock, Elva Subia and her husband, Lupe, of Houston, Marina Rojero, Yolanda Rodriguez and Cathy Lopez, all of Odessa; brothers, Fidel Dutchover of Carlsbad, N.M., Frank Dutchover of Odessa and Alberto Dutchover of Pomona, Calif.; sisters, Beatrice Aguirre and Maggie Campos, both of Odessa; 34 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. today.

A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Monday at Odessa Funeral Home Chapel. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Burial will be at Rose Hill cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Rivera, Randy Rivera, Phillip Sosa, Derrick Sosa, Israel Hinojos, Ismael Hinojos, Isaac Hinojos and Jess Rodriguez.

Services are by Odessa Funeral Home.

Marshall Fields

ODESSA — Marshall Fields, 71, of Odessa died Saturday, Oct. 28, 2000, at Medical Center Hospital.

He was born Aug. 10, 1929, in Lamesa. He attended the University of Texas at Austin and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He moved to Odessa from Lamesa in 1950. He was the owner and broker of Marshall Fields Real Estate and member of the Odessa Board of Realtors.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Beckham W. and Jessie Ballew Fields; and brother, Waymon Fields.

Survivors include his wife, Venita Fields of Odessa; daughters, Marcia Lynn Cook and husband, Keith, of Jasper and Glynna Lewis and husband, Dan, of Terrell; son, Steven Fields and wife, Susan, of Dallas; stepdaughter, Deb Lee and husband, Ken, of Odessa; and 11 grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters, Mrs. Howard (Jo) Eudy of Odessa, Mrs. Howard (Laverne) Meadows of Abilene, Bonnie Smith of Plano, and twin sister, Mrs. John (Marzelle) Ferguson of Oklahoma City; and brother, Bruce Fields of Corpus Christi.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m., today at Ector County cemetery with the Rev. Sam Jordan officiating. Arrangements by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.

Lela Fay Hatfield

ODESSA — Lela Fay Hatfield, 79, of Odessa went to be with the Lord Monday, Oct. 30, 2000. She was at Seabury Nursing Home. She was born Nov. 28, 1920, in Alabama. She married Archie Hatfield July 18, 1936, in Shamrock, Okla. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Archie Hatfield; and daughter, Judith Hatfield.

She is survived by her daughter, Ivis and son-in-law Richard Eggar of Odessa; seven grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Lela Fay was dearly loved by family and friends and will be missed.

Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2000, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Jimmy Braswell officiating. Arrangements by Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.

Homer Alfred Hargrove

ODESSA — Homer Hargrove, 89, of Odessa died Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000, at Medical Center Hospital. He was born Dec. 4, 1910, in Tyler, Okla., to Jesse and Lucy Hargrove.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, 2000, in the chapel of Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors with Jeff Trahan officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Hargrove married Pinkie Lillian Case on June 2, 1932, in Oklahoma. They came to Odessa 26 years ago from Tucumcari, N.M. He was a member of the Church of Christ and was owner of Hargrove Jewelers for 15 years.

He is survived by his wife, Pinkie Hargrove of Odessa; daughter, Glenda Bowman of Odessa; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Thelma Walden of El Paso, Flora Cook of Hot Springs, Ariz., Jo Tettleton and Chessie York, both of Nacona.

Ray Lopez Porras

ODESSA — Ray Lopez Porras, 29, of Odessa died Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000, at Memorial Hospital and Medical Center in Midland.

Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today, Dec. 13, 2000, at Odessa Funeral Home Angeles Memorial Chapel. Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church with Father Frank Chavez officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

He was born July 17, 1971, in Lovington, N.M. He was an oilfield worker. He was Catholic.

He was preceded in death by grandparents, Robert and Maria Rodriguez; and uncle, Leroy Lopez.

He is survived by his wife, Melissa R. Porras of Odessa; sons, Roy Ramirez and Jimmy Ray Porras, both of Odessa; daughter, Gabrielle Alexis Porras of Odessa; mother, Sally Gutierrez and husband, Tony, of Hobbs, N.M.; father, Manuel Rodriguez and wife, Kim, of Lovington; brothers, Christopher Rodriguez and wife, Veronica, of Lovington, Ricky Rodriguez and wife, Monica, of Odessa and Blue Manuel Rodriguez and wife, Robbin, of Lovington; grandparents, Florencia Garcia of Lovington and Roman and Marcela Lopez of Lovington; a niece; and four nephews.

Pallbearers will be family and friends, Floyd Clemence, Rudy Enriquez, Gilbert Ramirez Jr., Jason Rodriguez, Frank Lopez Jr., Domingo Lopez, Roy Ramirez, Christopher Rodriguez and Larry Lopez.

Donna Dimples Carmen Gilliam

MABANK — Donna Dimples Carmen Gilliam, 66, of Mabank passed away Oct. 21, 2000, in Tyler. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Arrangements were with Eubank Funeral Home of Mabank.

Mrs. Gilliam was born Aug. 6, 1934, in Roaring Springs to James E. and Dona (Reed) Payne. Previously of Wylie, she had lived in Mabank for eight months and was Assembly of God by faith.

Survivors include her daughters, Ann Tatum of Mabank and Kay Bittle and husband Jerry of Mabank; grandson, Glenn Able Jr.; brother, John Payne of California; sisters-in-law, Essie Payne of Lubbock and Margie Payne of Roaring Springs; and nieces, nephews, other family members and a host of friends.

Garland Garfield Ledbetter

KERMIT — Garland Garfield Ledbetter was born on May 7, 1910, to Lena Lee Clemons and Abram Esroe Ledbetter in North Little Rock, Ark. He returned to his Heavenly Father on Oct. 20, 2000. He was a native of Arkansas and resident of Kermit for 54 years.

Garland was preceded in death by his wife, Clara Lou Craig; and parents, Roe and Lena Ledbetter.

He is survived by two daughters, Janice Lewis of Hammond, La., and Susan Porter of Mountain View, Wyo.; one son, Garland Ledbetter of Salt Lake City; as well as one sister, Vernessa Owen of El Dorado, Ark; and nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

The viewing will be from 10 to 11 a.m. today at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Monahans with funeral services to follow. Burial will be at 3 p.m. at the Kermit cemetery.

Prebble Storie

MIDLAND — Prebble H. "Jiggs" Storie passed away Sunday, Nov. 19, 2000, in Stanton.

She was born to pioneer residents of Fort Stockton, Jonana and Hollis Randolph Brannon, Oct. 3, 1916, the second of four daughters.

A memorial service is scheduled for 10 a.m. today, Nov. 22, 2000, at the Manor Park Chapel with Dr. Philip McLarty and her nephew, David Rhoades, presiding. Burial will be at 3 p.m. today at East Hill cemetery in Fort Stockton. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home in Midland.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Odessa until 1988 when she moved to the Retirement Center.

Her family requests, in lieu of flowers, that contributions be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Odessa.

Mrs. Storie was devoted to her son and to her family. She loved West Texas, particularly Fort Stockton, and its history, where she spent her childhood and high school days, graduating in 1934.

These were depression years and she was unable to attend college so she began a long work career. Among other positions, she was employed at Fred Ellyson Abstract Company, was secretary to the Fort Stockton Superintendent of Schools, and worked in the accounting department of the Primary Air Base. During the war years, she served as city secretary and tax assessor of Fort Stockton for two terms.

When she moved to Odessa in 1946, she worked for Childers Accounting Firms. Then, in 1955, she took the position as secretary to the first president of Odessa College, Dr. Murry H. Fly. After his death, she was the secretary to the second president, Dr. Jack Rodgers. She retired in 1976, having been employed at Odessa College for 22 years.

Mrs. Storie’s many interests after retirement were crochet, bridge, oil painting and cooking. She was treasurer of Presbyterian Women for four years.

Preceding her in death were her parents and two sisters, Mrs. Leona "Babe" Rhoades of Odessa and Mrs. Geraldine "Dean" Dickson of McCamey.

Survivors are her son, John Randolph Storie, a sister, Mrs. LaNell Patterson of San Antonio, and a number of nieces and nephews.
