Ron Van Dyke

Ron Van Dyke, 60, passed away Thursday, April 5, 2001, at Hospice House in Odessa. He was born June 27, 1940, in Waukesha, Wis., to Richard and Helen Van Dyke. They precede him in death.

Graveside services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, April 9, 2001, at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Rev. James Qualls and Rev. Bill Heard are officiating.

Ron moved to Odessa from Ft. Hood in Killeen, Texas, in 1978. He married Jeannie Pierce on Oct. 4, 1980, and was a member of Freewill Baptist Church. He was a retired Army Vietnam veteran, receiving numerous medals of honor. Ron enjoyed traveling, camping and spending time with his dogs.

Survivors include his wife, Jeannie Van Dyke of Odessa; daughters Kitty Ellis of Georgia, and Toni Root of Virginia Beach, Va.; stepdaughter Judy Pierce of Odessa; and four grandchildren.

Services are entrusted to Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.

Mary Louise Gilmour

BIG SPRING - Mary Louise Gilmour, 85, passed away Tuesday, April 3, 2001, at Seabury Center in Odessa where she had been a resident for more than 16 years.

Mary was born to Frances and William Gilmour March 20, 1916, in Big Spring. She attended public schools in Big Spring, graduating in 1933 with honors. She was a member of the National Honor Society and the pep squad. Mary joined the Order of the Eastern Star at age 18 in Big Spring and was active in Order of the Eastern Star in Odessa for many years. Mary worked at Southwestern Bell Telephone and for several years, she worked as a Girl Scout executive. She worked in the accounting department for Shell Oil Co. in Midland and for Texas Electric Service Co. in Big Spring.

Mary attended college in later years, receiving a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree in 1953 from the University of Texas at Austin where she graduated with honors. She earned a Master of Business Administration Degree from Texas Tech University in Lubbock in 1956 and did additional graduate work in Colorado and Wyoming.

Mary moved to Odessa where she taught accounting for 22 years at Odessa College. Ms. Gilmour was a member of the Business and Professional Women’s Association, was past president of the American Association of University Women and in 1985 was awarded a Certificate of Honor for Outstanding Service by the local chapter. She was also a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority and the Retired Teachers Association and was very active in Odessa civic and social activities.

Mary was a member of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Odessa since 1956. She was active in St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Big Spring for 30 years.

Graveside funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, April 9, 2001, at Mt. Olive Memorial Park in Big Spring with the Rev. Jim Liggett, rector of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Big Spring, officiating. A memorial service will be held at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Odessa at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 10, 2001, with the Rev. Michael Jasper, rector, officiating. Assisting will be Judy Cobb, deacon.

Mary is survived by a cousin, Erma L. Thompson of Williamsville, N.Y.; her longtime caregiver, Dorothy Presley; and by many friends.

Special thanks are given to the staff and attendants at Seabury Center for their loving care of Mary these past 16 years and to the Home Hospice staff and nurses for their loving care and consolation.

Also, we are grateful for the dedication of the Lay Visitors of St. Barnabas and St. John’s Episcopal Church, who were faithful in their support.

In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that memorials be made to the Building Fund of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, 4141 Tanglewood, Odessa, Texas, 79762-7224.

Pat Carver

ODESSA - Pat Carver, 72, of Odessa, a homemaker, died Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2001, at Hospice House.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 3, 2001, at Asbury United Methodist Church. Arrangements by Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

Pat was born Dec. 17, 1928, in Paoli, Kan. She was a Methodist.

She is survived by her daughter, Carol Gregg and her husband Ken of Odessa; her son, Mike Sparks and his wife Priscilla of Odessa; grandchildren, Aron, Lindsey and Jason Gregg and Chris and Shawn Sparks; and sisters, Peggy Cline of Lyons, Kan., and Jean Boss of Boise, Idaho.

Pat Carver was a wonderful mother and an extraordinary grandmother. She was lovingly known as Granny, not only to her grandchildren, but to all of their friends as well as to the many children in her care during her tenure as nursery director of Asbury United Methodist Church. Granny was a friend, confidante and beloved grandmother to her grandchildren, Aron, Lindsey and Jason Gregg and Chris and Shawn Sparks. Granny played a very special and important role in the lives of each of her grandchildren.

Pat was a strong woman who faced the physical pain of a lengthy illness with great courage. She remained cheerful and deeply involved in the lives of her family. Pat "Granny" Carver was a very special woman who deeply enriched the lives of those who knew her and she will be greatly missed.

Giene McDonald

ODESSA - Giene McDonald, age 73, of Odessa died Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2001, at her residence. She was born March 21, 1927, in Mena, Ark., to George and Vergie McDonald.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 3, 2001, at the chapel of Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors with the Rev. Raymond Bugg officiating.

Mrs. McDonald moved to Odessa in 1952 from Houston. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church. She retired in 1997 after 17 years with the State of Texas Comptrollers Office. She was the past chairperson and secretary of the Women’s Democratic Party. She had been heavily involved in early union activities in the Permian Basin and served on the board of directors of Meals on Wheels and the Head Start Program.

She is survived by her sons, James E. McDonald of Houston, W.D. "Bill" McDonald of Stephenville and Mike McDonald of Dallas; sisters, Joyce Morngy of Austin and Jaunita Janetsky of Smithville; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.

Lee Ralph McDonald

ODESSA - Lee Ralph McDonald, 89, of Odessa died Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2001, in Odessa.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 3, 2001, at Crescent Park Baptist Church with the Rev. Barry Owens officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

He was born Jan. 24, 1912, in Deshler, Ohio. He married his wife May 16, 1936, in Rising Star. He lived in Cisco from 1945 to 1960 and came to Odessa in 1966 from Midland. He retired from Exxon Oil Co. in 1975 where he was an engineering aide. He was a member of Crescent Park Baptist Church and enjoyed bowling.

He is survived by his wife, Mamie McDonald; son, Jimmie L. McDonald and wife Jodie of La Porte; daughter, Sue Farley and husband Charles Ronald of Tulsa, Okla.; sisters, Lula Mathias of Breckenridge and Bernida Harris of Arlington; five grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Arrangements by Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.

Jerry Golden McKinney

PORTER - Jerry G. McKinney, 39, formerly of Odessa, passed away Sunday, Dec. 3, 2000, at M.D. Anderson Hospital in Houston. Jerry was born Aug. 27, 1961, in Odessa.

He is survived by his children, Misty McKinney, Jenilee McKinney and Chad McKinney of Sherman; his parents, Jerry and Connie McKinney of Porter; brother, Milton McKinney of Porter; sister, Ginger Lasseter and her husband Randy of Odessa; grandparents, Robert and Geraldine Dozier of Midland; grandmother, Gladys McKinney of Eminence, Mo.; aunts, Mary Jo Rice of Odessa, Jerry Green of Granbury and Jo Jones of Eminence; uncles, Larry McKinney of Montana and Jim McKinney of Colorado; and many nieces and nephews.

He will always remain in our hearts and be loved and missed by all.

Bobby Gene Mullins

MIDLAND - Services for Bobby Gene Mullins are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, March 3, 2001, at Pipkin Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gayle Wilson of Hospice of Midland officiating.

Graveside services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, March 5, 2001, at Ash Creek cemetery in McAlester, Okla., with the Rev. Marvin Dunn of Krebs, Okla., officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Pipkin Funeral Home.

Bobby, 59, died Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2001, at his Midland residence, ending a nine-year battle with bone cancer.

Bobby was born Aug. 12, 1941, in McAlester, Okla., to Martha and Robert L. Mullins Sr. Bobby had lived here for the last 30 years. He married Elaine Bunch Aug. 7, 1960, in Midland. He was a member of West Kentucky Street Baptist Church. For 25 years, he operated Tall City Iron and Metal Salvage Yard in Midland, and for the last 10 years, Bobby rebuilt heavy equipment.

Survivors include his wife, Elaine Mullins of Midland; his son, Clifton "Slick" Mullins and wife Sandy of Odessa; his daughter, Deborah Maraschick and husband Mitch of Midland; three brothers, Robert Mullins, Donald Mullins and Lynn Mullins, all of Midland; two sisters, Joann Edwards and Linda Hopper, both of Stanton; and 10 grandchildren, Michael, Mary Catherine and Joey Maraschick, Eric, Karmen, Kayla, Robin, Derrick, Johnny and Sheridon Mullins.

Visitation is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. today, March 2, 2001, at Pipkin Funeral Home.

Ladell ‘Slim’ Ellis

ODESSA - Ladell "Slim" Ellis, 84, a longtime resident of Odessa, passed away Saturday, March 24, 2001, at Medical Center Hospital.

He was born Oct. 14, 1916, in Odessa. He married Myrtle Kemp July 21, 1937, in Odessa. He was an Army veteran and served in World War II. He had worked for B&B Construction Co. for many years. He was a member of the VFW, and he was a Baptist.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle Ellis on Feb. 4, 2001; his parents, Pat and Irene Ellis; son, Jerry Ellis; brother, Dink Ellis; and sister, Patsy.

Survivors are his son, John Ellis of Redwood City, Calif.; daughters, Barbara Ellis of San Ramon, Calif., and Jan Topper of Dove Canyon, Calif.; brother, George Ellis of Peach Creek, Ariz.; sister, Irene Blevins of El Paso; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. today, March 28, 2001, at Rose Hill cemetery with the Rev. Jimmy Braswell officiating.
