Dardis Dolores Ingram JEFFERSON - Services for Dardis Dolores Ingram are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, April 7, 2001, at Haggard-Heaster Chapel with the Rev. Darwin Roraback officiating. Interment will be at Oakwood Memorial Park under the direction of Haggard-Heaster Funeral Home. Mrs. Ingram died Tuesday, April 3, 2001, in Marshall. She was born April 12, 1920, in Wilson, Okla., to Jim and Beatrice Goode Taliaferro. Mrs. Ingram married C.H. “Chief” Ingram on Nov. 30, 1943, in Oklahoma. After 53 years of marriage, he preceded her in death Feb. 6, 1997. Her brother, Harold Taliaferro, also preceded her in death. She was a retired cosmetologist and was a Baptist. Survivors are her son, Johnny and wife Edith Ingram of Jefferson; daughters, Cheryl Wimberly of Jefferson, Gayle and husband Bill Savio of Jefferson and Shirley and husband Jimmy Alvarez of Austin; sisters, Wanda Camp of Odessa, Joyce and husband J.D. Redwine of Eldorado and Dorothy Taliaferro of McKinney; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. Active pallbearers will be Sonny Jordan, Wayman Moore, Jack Peters, Ed Joseph, Michael Kizziar and Kenneth Diaz. Clifton Harbson Partney McCAMEY - Clifton Harbson Partney, 87, of McCamey passed away Monday, April 2, 2001, at an assisted living home in San Antonio. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 6, 2001, at the First Christian Church in McCamey with burial at the Resthaven cemetery in McCamey. Services will be officiated by the Rev. James Brasell. Special song by Ambra Andrew Freeman, granddaughter, and eulogy by the Rev. Jay George, grandson-in-law. Special words will be by Cindee Pichot, granddaughter. Services are under the direction of Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home of McCamey. Cliff was born Jan. 12, 1914, in Throckmorton County to the late Charlie Harbson Partney and Hattie Z. Stroud Partney. He was married to Carmen E. Dodd on April 26, 1936, in Walters, Okla. They moved to McCamey in 1949. He was a member of the First Christian Church in McCamey. He served as a deacon for many years. He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Charlie and Hattie Partney; his wife, Carmen Partney; two brothers, Fred and Herman Partney; a sister, Olivia Partney McNutt; two sisters-in-law, Cora Lee Partney and Ann Partney; a brother-in-law, Homer McNutt; a granddaughter, Joy Noel Partney Roussel; and a great-grandchild. He is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Gwen and Tom Pichot of Laredo, Hattie and Jim Berleth of Katy and Leta and Glenn Andrew of Windermere, Fla.; four sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Mary Ann Partney of McCamey, C.H. and Barbara Partney Jr. of Spring, James and Beverly Partney of San Antonio and Larry and Dee Partney of Fort Stockton; two brothers, Cecil Partney of Adair, Okla., and Grafton and Zulette Partney of Iowa Park; 17 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. Pallbearers will be Cliff Partney III, Keith Partney, Jack English Jr., Clay Andrew, Jason Partney and Jason Copeland. Honorary pallbearers will be David Munoz, Stephen Lahone, Bert Dodd Jr., Richard Dodd, Jack Andrew Sr., Mike Freeman, John Slaton, Jay George, Buddy Willingham, Travis Partney, Terry Don Partney, Russell Wayne Berry, Charlie Wayne Dodd, Richard Drumm and Bill Dodd Jr. Billye R. Stewart MIDLAND - Following cremation, there will be a brief memorial service at 11 a.m. Friday, April 6, 2001, at Pipkin Funeral Home Chapel for Ms. Billye R. Stewart. The Rev. Bob Porterfield will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Pipkin Funeral Home. Ms. Stewart was born June 14, 1925, in Wichita Falls to T.W. “Buddy” Rudder and Dell Creamer Rudder. She owned and operated night clubs in Midland and Odessa since the ’40s. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, T.W. Rudder Jr.; a sister, Lois Rudder; her first husband, Delbert Booth, and J.W. “Bubba” Stewart. She is survived by a daughter, Sandye Booth Pierce; two grandsons, Vernon Pierce of Clarksville, Tenn., and Victor Pierce of Midland; four great-grandchildren, Patrick Pierce of Tennessee, Robert Pierce and Christopher Pierce of Oklahoma and Angelique Pierce of Midland; and a great-great-granddaughter, Ariel Pierce of Tennessee. Mrs. Stewart died at her residence, peacefully in her sleep. She was a Christian with a strong faith. Honorary pallbearers will be Neal Eppinger, Don Brookshire, Jerry Lee Bradley, Larry White, Lynn Hedges, Ben Weirich, Les King and Jimmy Hopper. The family urges that in lieu of flowers contributions be made to Hospice of Midland. Visitation will follow the service at “The Place.” Selma Swindle ODESSA - Selma Swindle, 78 years of age, passed away Monday, April 2, 2001, at the Home Hospice residence. She was born Dec. 27, 1922, in Buena Vista, Ga. She married John Swindle Jan. 4, 1945, in Richland, Ga. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers and sisters. She is survived by her husband, John Swindle of Odessa; son, John E. Swindle of Tampa, Fla.; her grandchildren, Jared and Christopher Swindle of Tampa, Fla.; sister, Bobbie Mahaley of Richland, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 6, 2001, at Belmont Baptist Church, 806 N. Belmont Ave., with Pastor Rex Clayton officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill cemetery. Mrs. Swindle was a cadet nurse in the armed forces and a member of the Eastern Star. She was also a longtime nurse in Odessa and worked in the Wood and Hedley Hospital until Medical Center Hospital was built and worked at Medical Center Hospital for approximately 20 years. She continued her nursing in private duty and also in the women’s auxiliary at Medical Center Hospital until her death. She continued to help people through the Meals on Wheels organization and was an active member of the senior citizen “sing-along” group. Services by Odessa Funeral Home Angeles Memorial Chapel. Cathy Ward ODESSA - Cathy Ward, our beloved wife, mother, Meme, and sister, passed away Tuesday, April 3, 2001. She was born July 27, 1942, in Merit, Hunt County, to Dewey Lee Hockett Sr. and Wilma Ida Gray. Cathy married Bob Ward in Odessa on June 23, 1958. Cathy and Bob share three loving children, Cindy Lewis, Jimmy Ward and wife Jana and Karen Ward, all of Odessa. She is survived by her mother, Wilma Hockett of Rockwall. She also had four grandchildren, Christy Lewis, Randy Lewis, Justine Ward and Tara Duley. Cathy leaves behind sisters, Wanda and husband Larry Goodson of Odessa and Doris and husband Darren Baker of Odessa; brothers, Bill Hockett and wife Lorna of Farmersville, Don Hockett and wife Jan of Angleton; and Raymond Hockett and wife Barbara of Allen; and numerous nieces and nephews. Cathy’s father and two brothers preceded her in death. The family will have private graveside services. The Rev. Donnie Williams will officiate the service. Sunset Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Cathy was truly a strong and determined woman in life and during her illness. She was an amazing woman who enjoyed many things in life, sewing, arts and crafts, painting and cake decorating. She loved it all, but the true loves in her life were her husband, children and grandchildren. Cathy’s family always came first. She had a heart of gold and was always there for anyone that ever needed her. She was always involved in her children’s lives and by doing so became active in school projects, such as PTA. You have been gone for a short while and already the emptiness is too much to bear. Yes, we must go on without you, but nothing will ever be the same until we meet again. We will never forget the unconditional love you have for each and every one of us. We love you! Elma Jean Williams HOBBS, N.M. - Elma Jean Morris Williams, 56, retired owner of Handy Spot Meat Market, died Sunday, April 1, 2001, at Charlton Methodist Hospital. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, April 6, 2001, at Saint John Baptist Church, 1006 E. Midwest St., in Hobbs, N.M. Pastor J.L. Joiner will preside. Burial will immediately follow the services at Sunset cemetery in Crane. Wake services will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the church. Survivors are her loving husband, Arnett Williams; a son, James R. Jackson; three daughters, Cynthia Williams, Gloria Williams Miller and Shirley Bailey; four brothers, Luther Morris, Tommy Bishop, Don Bishop Jr. and Roy Lee; sisters, Irene Drones, Donna Young, Etta Mae Keys, Wynell Malone and Wilfred Eldridge; eight grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and a host of other relatives and friends. Zelda Woodard ROBERT LEE - Hoping for the best, but knowing her illness was probably fatal in the near future, Zelda Faye Caraway Woodard peacefully slipped from this life into heaven the afternoon of April 3, 2001. She was born the second child of James Clayton Caraway and Lillian Williams Caraway on Nov. 10, 1929, in Coke County. She attended Blackwell schools and graduated from high school in 1947. While in Blackwell schools, she was a devoted basketball player and her prowess in this sport earned her many medals. Her early working livelihood included counter person at the Robert Lee Drug Store in Robert Lee and from there to cashier at the Robert Lee State Bank. While working at the bank in late 1957, she met and later married John Gardner Woodard of Sweetwater. Their marriage in April 1959 was followed by the birth of their only child, William Todd Woodard. In 1966, Mr. Woodard was offered a position as pipeline superintendent in Crane. While in Crane, Mrs. Woodard was deeply involved in sorority work, becoming president of Rho Chi Sorority for two years and ended this with a life membership. Her involvement in Crane County 4-H, along with her husband, allowed her son to be on the Junior Rifle Team, which won the coveted Texas title in 1973. She was elected president of the Little League Auxiliary and served two years in that capacity. In 1970, Mrs. Woodard was told she was diabetic. In 1972, she began to receive insulin shots for this malady. This progressive disease finally ended her life. Mr. Woodard retired in 1990, and the family moved to Robert Lee. Mrs. Woodard is survived by her husband, John of the home; her son, Todd and his wife Tracie Taylor Woodard of Houston; a grandson, John Taylor Woodard of Houston; a granddaughter, Cara Blake Woodard of Houston; a brother, Jim Caraway of Bryan; a sister, Glo Snead of Fort Washington, Md.; and her mother, Lillian Middleton of the Robert Lee Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 6, 2001, at the First United Methodist Church in Robert Lee with the Rev. Jim Reeves officiating. Burial will follow at the Robert Lee cemetery. Services are under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home. John H. Burton STANTON - Graveside services for John H. Burton are scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 27, 2001, at the Stanton cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Pipkin Funeral Home and Chapel. John was born Aug. 16, 1913, in Hand County, S.D., to Almina Marthina Evenson and Arthur Edward Burton. John entered the Army in 1941. He served in the Army Air Corps as a sergeant. He was stationed in San Antonio and Midland. He received an honorable discharge in 1945. John married Wanda Fay Wilson Oct. 2, 1943, in Midland. John and Wanda made Midland their home. They shared 57 years together. John worked for LeSage Beer and Lone Star Liquors for 20 years until his retirement. He also worked for the Midland Independent School District and Region 18 until his second retirement. He loved his family, boating, fishing and camping out. He also loved fixing things and sitting on the front porch. He was a wonderful father who was adored by his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other family members. Dad, or “Papa John,” was mischievous and had a great sense of humor. He gave us values and a positive outlook on life that has helped us to become better parents and better citizens. Hopefully, we will be able to pass these attributes on to our children. We will miss him very much. John died Thursday, March 22, 2001, at a local hospital. John was preceded in death by his three daughters, Shirley Burton, Sharley Burton and Charlotte Vasbinder; his grandson, David Keith Vasbinder; his granddaughter, Dodie Joe Burton; his parents; seven sisters; and three brothers. Survivors include his wife, Wanda Fay Burton of Midland; his sons, Robert Burton and wife Jane of Midland and Randal Burton of Odessa; his three daughters, Marylin Morris and husband Jim of Odessa, Karen Gipson and husband Danny, also of Odessa, and D’Anne Henson and husband Randy of Midland; his grandsons, James Huggins Jr., Tony Lesley and wife Wendi, Larry Don Burton, Tracy Joe Henson, Benjamin Burton, Nicholas Burton, Chris McCall and Jeff Morris, all of Midland, Brandon Huggins and wife Sheri of Stanton and Cody Burton of Odessa; his granddaughters, Kedron Dean of Goldthwaite, Tammie Jo Hanson and husband Scott, Audra Brown and husband Jimmy, and Brooke Henson, all of Midland; his great-grandsons, Michael Gillis and Cody Dean, both of Goldthwaite, Christopher Linville of Elgin, Ore., John Eric Faught, Michael Lesley, Johnny Lesley, Braden Brown and Jimmy Brown, all of Midland, Kody Huggins and Spencer Huggins, both of Stanton; his great-granddaughters, Amanda Joy Dean of Goldthwaite, Elizabeth Hanson, Emily Marie Hanson and Crystalin Lesley, all of Midland; his sister, Mrs. Royal Bitner of Rapid City, S.D.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice. Cordelia Barner POST - Cordelia Barner, 98, of Post, a homemaker, went to be with her Lord and Savior Thursday, March 22, 2001, at her residence. Services were at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, March 24, 2001, at Hudman Funeral Home with the Rev. Keith Cooper officiating. Burial was at Terrace cemetery. Arrangements by Hudman Funeral Home. She was born April 29, 1902, in Hamilton County. She married James Gilder Barner in 1920 in Hamilton. Her husband died in 1941. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Post and longtime member of Sherwood Baptist Church in Odessa. Many will remember her for the loving care she gave to their children while working in the Sherwood Baptist Nursery. Cordelia will be remembered for her warm smiles and open arms for hugs. She was also preceded in death by a son and two daughters. Survivors include her sons, David, Roy and Harold, all of Odessa, James and Everett, both of Post, and Pete of Canyon; daughters, Jackie Voglino and Jessie Wickliffe, both of Odessa; sisters, Norra Massingill of Hamilton and Nannie Alexander of Colorado; 30 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Post.
